  • In March of 2015, the Atheist Foundation of Australia hosted atheist activists Matt Dillahunty, Aron Ra and Seth Andrews (under the tongue-in-cheek tour title, "The Unholy Trinity Down Under").
    The speakers' presentations from Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne are posted on AFA's tour website: www.unholytrinitydownunder.com

      +Elizabeth Wilcol This doesn't really make any sense - you are saying that you believed in the bible and called yourself a Christian WITHOUT really studying the bible? For 50 years??? I don't really understand how on earth you could have any vague interest/ affiliation with a belief of any remote seriousness, but yet virtually ignore the text upon which it's built upon! To answer Seth's point. Yes I was converted by street preachers from THeist to atheist when I was about 11. I recognised that they were talking nonsense and also lying even at that age. I never reacted well to threats. There was a guy who walked the streets of Walton on the Naze in Essex with a sandwich board which read "The end of the world is nye". Even for someone who's been an atheist for 38 years, this was educational. I'd like to see one of the Unholy Trinity discuss how Jesus's birth, life, and sacrifice to absolve us all of the original sin was all for naught, since we're all still being punished for it 2,000 years later.

    • @Yorker1998

    • @DoctorZisIN
      @DoctorZisIN 9 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      1955RodHot Also they were being punished 2000 years prior. The scene is set in Genesis with Abraham that if he obeys Jehovah he shall be rewarded, but if he doesn't he shall be punished. A very simple setup. After Christ, the situation is described to be exactly the same: Choose Jesus and be saved, or choose anything else and suffer.Notice that in both the Old and New testaments, reward or punishment hinges on obedience to God or Jesus, not necessarily doing what is morally right. So, just as you say, the human sacrifice of Jesus changes nothing.

    • @Yorker1998
      @Yorker1998 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      God carrying out the Jesus sacrifice was equivalent to throwing somebody into a body of water and then offering them a life preserver. As Matt Dillahunty has said, God created imperfect human beings (throws into body of water) then offers Jesus as a sacrifice (life preserver) to save them from his own wrath (chucking them into the body of water in the first place), and other screw ups.
      On the point of Hell, I have heard Christians try to rationalize this with usually an analogy like this:
      *"Suppose that this man the judge had to sent had done a crime so great it called for death. He waiting on death row and his lawyer come in with full excitement with the warden. The governor has granted you a full pardon, you're free to go. The man refuses to take the pardon, they ask him to change his mind over and over but he will still not accept the pardon. Since the man refuses the pardon, they continue with the sentence and execute him. It was his choice; and he chose to die. God has offered you a way out of your sentence paid by Jesus. The choice is yours, will you accept the pardon?*"
      The man refusing the pardon was his choice, but my disbelief in a god is *not* a choice, so I am not "choosing" to reject anything, nor am I sending myself to Hell or anywhere of that matter, I don't believe in said place. I'm sure this can be expanded on, but that is my main point and I'm very tired as for right now.

You are absolutely correct in that he does not touch on issues of physics because it's not his specialty and would make him a laughing stock. And he knows that. That's why he collaborated with another youtuber who knows more on Big Bang cosmology. So perhaps "Correcting the Church of Unlimited Errors 1/3" could be of help there? It's been a while since I watched that video so I don't recall what they spoke of exactly but Big Bang Theory definitely got covered to some extent.
      Personally I agree to the points and mission of Amon Ra etc, trying to educate people on science and evolution, though what I disagree with is the dismissive tone they use for religion, as it can come off as needlessly aggressive and runs the risk of making a rational discussion into a shouting match. It's not an ideological war and the opposition isn't evil, it's two sides with vastly different worldviews trying to get their message out. I imagine it must get really infuriating sometimes for believers to look past the tone at the content provided and it'd likely color your perception when you were to later look up the theories from more neutral-sounding sources. I wish you all the best nonetheless and hope you find your answers.

      These points are taught by your media as normal and easily coexist with an atheist society and not a practising Christian society.
      I haven't seen any value or real cobtributio from atheism at all-
      .Never heard of a atheist charity group
      .Never heard of a atheist org donate and give time to help elderly, disadvantaged... I mean they exist but they are extremely small.
      These orgs that have Christian origins
      Red Cross, Homeless centres, drug and alcoholic rehab organisations etc.... if they were taken away you would see how much Christianity helps
      Haven't heard of any atheist org that is against abortion or euthanasia where as Christian believe ALL life is important regardless of age or gender.

    Personal recollection: As a kid, living in Stockton NSW(Australia), I'd walk down the street to the local shopping strip(a section of Mitchell Street running from King Street down to Queen Street, and the intersection of Mitchell and Crown streets being about half-way along). To get there, I'd pass by the Catholic primary school, church and preacher's residence that took up a sizeable chunk of real estate bordered by King, Dunbar and Crown Streets. The preacher's residence was on the corner of King and Dunbar Streets and, in the 1960s and up to (guessing) the mid-to-late 1970s had this high fence around it, which had long-since been removed. I used to see that fence and think(when in my teens) that it was symbolic of the catholic church shutting out the real world. Knowing what we now know of paedophile priests, predominantly in the catholic church, that symbolism is more profound.

      Which "belief" is more rational and logical???
      Two people (one Christian the other Atheist) are walking through an apple orchard coming upon 377 apples "perfectly" in a row and "evenly" spaced apart on the ground.
      The atheist, given their belief in spontaneous "accidents", concludes "nice accident" and continues walking. Obviously, not thinking anything more about it - as that is how he/she is brainwashed by their "secular" public education to believe.
      On the other hand, the Christian sees the exact same 377 apples "perfectly" in a row and "evenly" spaced apart, and concludes "WHO IN THE WORLD DID THAT?"
      Which has a more rational and logical conclusion???
      Basic logic dictates behind "order" there has to be an "orderer". Behind every "building" you see is a "builder" you cannot see.
      Behind something that is "moving" there is a "mover" - that "caused it" to move.
      Behind an intelligent "design" is a intelligent "designer".
      Now, let’s raise the spontaneous "accident" odds to absolute absurdity. For me to write this post I have 3 Billion DNA "perfectly" in a row and "evenly" spaced apart and for you to read this post right now you have 3 Billion DNA "perfectly" in a row and "evenly" spaced apart, so over 6 Billion DNA "ordered" and working !!!
      Now, is that just a random "chance" and spontaneous "accident" to have 6 Billion DNA in a "row" to carry on this conversation???
      www.genome.gov/25520880/deoxyribonucleic-acid-dna-fact-sheet/
      evolutionnews.org/2018/04/yes-intelligent-design-is-detectable-by-science/
      Even famous atheist Richard Dawkins has admitted DNA can "prove" intelligent design
      th-cam.com/video/prFZTMIKOi4/w-d-xo.html
      www.allaboutscience.org/intelligent-design.htm
      Sorry, Evolution is a lie. The false theory should be DEAD/EXTINCT by "real" scientists:
      th-cam.com/video/4wCxkBnm3ow/w-d-xo.html
      Evolution is spread from a Masonic lie:
      th-cam.com/video/66c03O4APJ4/w-d-xo.html
      What are the "odds" of even one protein forming "accidentally" completely forgetting about even more complex "LIFE"???
      th-cam.com/video/W1_KEVaCyaA/w-d-xo.html
      th-cam.com/video/yBEwgdCHUWo/w-d-xo.html
      Now is athiestic evolution or spontaneous "accidents" really a logical and rational conclusion???
      Please get to KNOW the supreme "orderer" of this universe, and what He expects out of your life to find "TRUE LIFE".
      Now, I recommend you watch former atheist Lee Strobel's "Case for the Creator".
      th-cam.com/video/ajqH4y8G0MI/w-d-xo.html
      Then listen or read Josh McDowell's "Evidence Demands a Verdict".
      th-cam.com/video/HRemWMIy2IY/w-d-xo.html
      Please follow the "evidence", facts, real science and "TRUTH" right into the ONE and ONLY established Church of Jesus Christ being the ONE HOLY CATHOLIC AND APOSTOLIC CHURCH.
      May GOD open your eyes and heart guiding you to TRUTH HIMSELF Jesus Christ (John 14:6).

I think I'll go find the idiot responsible for this and smack them upside the head." Your response however? As with anything remotely unknown (that you don't see as a threat, at least), it's automatically a miracle, "God works in mysterious ways" or what have you. Evolution happens over centuries, normally. A study in the Caribbean, however, has shown that it can also occur overnight thanks to a hurricane that blew away lizards with long back legs.
      The scientists involved called it “hurricane-induced natural selection”. A team of ecologists was lucky enough to take measurements of tropical anole lizards before a hurricane hit the Turks and Caicos Islands last August.
      After the storm, they returned to find that the course of the lizards’ evolution had been changed drastically. A paper in the journal Nature reported that the only anole lizards left had larger toe pads and smaller hind legs.

      The reason the devil killed Job's children was because of a bet he had with god that Job would curse god to his face if he had to suffer.
      God took the bet and allowed the devil to decimate the man.
      What a truly shit god that would even contemplate having a bet of any kind, with the devil.

All these begettings, but there was only Adam, Eve & Cain, & he'd just murdered his brother, god didn't strike him dead, , just gave him the mark, so men would know him, which men? Then go forth & multiply, who with, like I said, what was her name then?

    Jon, I am an American, born and raised a Catholic, but fortunately I saw the freeing light of rationality and atheism while still quite young. I've lived and taught here in Thailand now for almost 20 years. Imagine my feelings at this: There are Mormon missionaries here! Imagine the nerve of coming to Thailand, an overwhelmingly Buddhist country, whose religion/philosophy has served them well for hundreds of generations, and telling those good-hearted people that their religion is not the 'right one'. Sheer, unimaginable gall! I see their smiling, well-groomed young men on their bicycles, riding around and trying to convert others to their foreign, bigoted, totally-made-up religion, with an unbelievably ludicrous faith system, living as spirits before gaining a physical body, baptism of the dead, magical underwear, and other fantastic absurdities, founded by a convicted con-man and devoted to materialistic gain. I was approached a few times in the past, but honestly, the mere look of anger and loathing on my face ( and my stony refusal to answer ANY of their questions) set them on edge and they quickly left me alone. I'm married to a Buddhist woman, and if there is a more peaceful and accepting approach to life, I haven't been fortunate enough yet to have encountered it. Christians of ALL stripes need to be stopped from poisoning any more minds.

    Seeing you read the Bible this way reminded me of something that I'm amazed by and hopefully you'll find that amazing too.
    You see, when I was a kid at one point I was reading a compilation of folklore. Like, greek folklore, sumerian, egyptian, some chinese tales, etc. And among those there was some jewish folklores. I read about Moses. I loved the story of Nebuchadrezzar, that whole thing with colossus on clay legs. That was an really interesting (and kind of sad) story.
    Yeah, so, I read the adapted version Bible's old testament as a kid without knowing that it was a holy book and that it was any different from greek legends.
    And now it makes me think, how much people are missing by reading the Bible in any other way. By seeing it as a holy scripture, they really can't appreciate it for what it is, an amazing piece of folklore.

    • @Spellweaver5
      @Spellweaver5 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Dirk Knight it wasn't but come on, it's not like folklore can't have the likes of that stuff. Greeks have Kronos eating his own children, Zeus turning into swan and bull and seducing girls, goddesses inciting a war because they felt offended. It doesn't diminish the folklore's value.

      @Spellweaver5 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Dirk Knight Did he not? Oh man, are you wrong. Here, have yet another version of Noah's arc. www.britannica.com/topic/Deucalion
      He also literally swallowed his child Athena. And Hades' realm might not be hell but it's a miserable place to be in nevertheless. There even are eternal punishments, remember Sisyphus? There are reasons Dante's hell is inspired more by Greeks than by Christians.
      Those stories are on the same level. Neither should be judged for that because the world they were created in was very different back then.

    • @Spellweaver5
      @Spellweaver5 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Dirk Knight stop with that condescending tone. Especially considering you got so many facts wrong already.

There are so many churches, bibles in print literature it is just forced upon us. It is just assumed by many. We really are in a time where I really now for certain that we have to start growing our own food, stop paying the iRS and seriously realize big big money runs the grocery stores that sell a lot of the cancer causing foods. We have to realize the money system is destroying our planet. We have to start questioning everything.
