    I've had an atheist friend. I wanted to try and help him find God, but i needed some strong, good arguments to convince him. So first i've tried to understand his point of view, so i could point him his errors. Couldn't find much of them. So i took my Bible, start reading, to find and show him the greatness of God. Now i'm an atheist myself. Cause this book doesn't contains what my parents/priests said to me it does. It contains blood, violence, stupidity, sexism, and whole lot of other b*llsh*t.

      I too was a brainwashed christian for the first 35 years of my life. In my 30's I wanted to get closer to our lord and savior, so I did something too few people actually do.......I read the bible. First time I read it, I did all the gymnastics and made all the excuses for all the contradictions and EVIL commanded by that "god". But by the time I got to the end of that book, I was agnostic.
      I decided to read it again, but that 2nd time with an Open Mind, not a brainwashed one. I figured, IF there truly is a good god, he would NOT mind me asking all the tough questions. In fact if he were real and a good god, he would want us to ask all the tough questions, because that would at least weed out all the false gods. So I read it again. BOY WHAT A DIFFERENCE. Reading it with an open mind made me see how EVIL that character truly is. By the time I finished it that 2nd time, I was Atheist. After alot of years of researching this topic, I can say there is ZERO proof of any "god". If there is one, he/she/it does NOT want us to know.
      This quote was true in both our cases -- "Properly read, the bible is the most potent force for Atheism ever conceived." -- Isaac Asimov
      If only more people would actually READ their supposed "holy books".

      @kim burley So basically you are - as born again christian - ok with slavery, selling your children into slavery, massmurdering people etc etc etc. It´s there, and you cannot discuss away. But you can close your eyes and your mind and stick your fingers in your ears and pretend. Do as you wish, i don´t care. But don´t come here and try to be a missionary.

    • @readiest
      @readiest 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @kim burley Firstly i don´t need saving for there is nothing to be saved from. Keep your fairy tales to yourself. Secondly i don´t want to repeat myself, so read above. And thirdly i´m educated enough not to waste my time with people who live in a fantasy world. Have a nice day.

    • @gregoriikatastrov7472
      @gregoriikatastrov7472 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @kim burley you are confusing historical book with an ancient book. Your is just old collection of what people believe in this time, in this area. That's why only non-secular sources are mentioning Jesus character. That's why it contains things that we do know (thanks to science) cannot happened in reality. So you are trolling or you were mislead very bad (and only in that case i'm really sorry for you. If you talked yourself into it, than you're wasting your life on your own demand).

    • @MasterSpade
      @MasterSpade 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @kim burley -- You say I "read it as an unsaved person". Wrong. As I said, the first time I read the bible I read it as a Brainwashed religious person. I believed all that crap. I believed it and wanted it to be true. As I said, I was Brainwashed. I was "Saved". That was true for the first 35 years of my life. So you are wrong there.
      Then I read the bible to get closer to our lord and savior. The first time I read through that book, I could not believe the EVIL and all the contradictions in it. But I was brainwashed, so I made all the Excuses and did all the Gymnastics. But by the time I got to the end of that book, I couldn't take it anymore. By the end, I was agnostic, but still WANTED to believe. So I told myself "I will read it again, but with an Open Mind. If there is a god, and it is a good god, then he will want it this way. He will not be mad when I ask all the tough questions, in fact, if he truly is a good god, he will love the tough questions because that will at least weed out all the false gods."
      So I read it that 2nd time.........with an Open Mind, not a Brainwashed one. That 2nd reading made me realize that IF there is a god, it sure as hell is NOT the god of the bible. Too EVIL, and too many contradictions.
      After that 2nd reading, I was what I am now, Atheist. All that means is, that I do not see any real evidence for any god. After years of research, atheism is the only choice. So either ---
      1. there is no god, or
      2. there is.......but he sure as hell does not want us to know.
      Take your pick.
      With no real evidence of any god, I vote number 1. If #2 is true, then it is an EVIL god. Simple as that.

They would be more perceptive , the idea was that everyone would have a moment of weakness due to our everyday problems when we put our guard down and are more willing to accept , this is how they got me and most of the congregation adults . Re the trinity, Aron's speech nailed it when he said that he focused on the science, Matt on the philosophy, and Seth on the humanism. If we MUST assign labels to them, then Aron would be God, being a student on the way the works, Seth is the Son, being mindful of how to live in a non-religious manner, and Matt gets to be the Holy Spirit, being concerned with the more theoretical side of things.

      They have to be closed minded in order to maintain the charade. We all realized how wrong it was that we were afraid to talk to each other, and it really brought us a lot closer together. And religious made us afraid to tell each other who we were.
    My parents are still very conservative and I'm still very liberal. But, wow, we are so much closer now that we no longer believe in the supernatural.

    I love this Unholy Trinity. You're all humble brilliant people who have been through the rigours of religion. I was lucky to have been born Buddhist. My mom told me to pray for "Money, Prosperity, and Long Life." That's it. I prayed for those three and it was fun--I knew that those 'prayers' don't matter much unless I support them by living my life productively, healthily, and frugally. It was 9/11 that woke me up to how scary it is that some people are brainwashed to hijack and fly planes into the Twin Towers. I was outraged and angry that such teachings can destroy so many lives. Since then, I started finding books, resources, videos, and podcasts on Atheism. Thank you again for what you do and how you support us.

    I’m a little confused, can anyone help please. My mum was a sober member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 37 years here in the UK,
    she was to her core an atheist. When I asked her about AA’s stance on God, she said that it was an atheist community, but they talked about drawing strength from a higher power but that the higher power was the members of AA itself.
    So my confusion is about the structure of AA in the States, has God somehow snuck in?

    • @42mart42
      @42mart42 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      The AA was started by a couple of christians, so the intention from the start was to bring god into it, but these days it often depends on the group and where in the world it is, your mum probably just got lucky. Seth did an interview with a guy about this a couple of years ago if you're interested, it's called 12 steps and beyond if you want to search for it.

      AA is based in religion. Ie belief in a higher power and here in Texas that would be god. Or they will shun you. Most of them anyway.

      And I’ll add a (maybe) funny story, she had always said paying lots of money to dispose of anyone’s carcass was a total waste of time and money. So when she died my Dad found an Undertaker that would collect and cremate her for $1,290. As a family we knew that she was gone, what was left was just a meat suit.
      Fast forward 18 months and the crematorium contacted him asking if he was coming to collect her ashes. His classic reply was “just throw it in the rubbish bin, it’s just ash” needless to say they weren’t expecting that! 👍

    One of my go to's for an argument against god is to say that the god is supposed to be perfect and is supposed to be all knowing, and has a handle on everything that goes on within their church, and that the ministers are supposed to be a conduit for the god. Then when you listen to the ministers and they say things from the bible that is just demonstrably incorrect and against the truth, how does this god let that happen? Why are the ministers of your churches raping children if there is a god to stop them and advise them that what they are doing is wrong? Does your god not want to stop child rape? Does anyone have a link to the video Seth mentions about the two guys reading verses to people who think they are reading from the Quran, but instead it comes from the Bible? I can't seem to find it based on the channel name he mentioned.

      @@TheThinkingAtheist Thank you! I was typing in Dis or This rather than Dit so that's why I could'n't find it.

    Aron Ra, as the oldest but also most aggressive, is OT god. Matt, with his patience and calmness (most of the time) is jesus. Seth operates largely via radio podcast, and sort of operates like an intangible unholy spirit.
    It fits. I like it.

    I would never ever want to take away my mum's beliefs in her religion. I'm an atheist, but she like many other people had no other option but to follow this way of living and thinking. It's sometimes not a person's fault that they are not an atheist
