  • Check out my first hand impressions of a new 2021 Can Am Outlander 850 XT. I give it a very good test ride and compare it to the first ride on my Polaris Sportsman 850 XP. Power, rider comfort, steering/handling and suspension are the key factors for me. Real rider, REAL REVIEW!

    Bought this model couple months ago. Love the throttle control. Work mode is great for taking away the jerking in the tight stuff. Really like the extra wide stance over my older G2. Saved me a couple times already. See how these itp tires hold up. Midrange is strong with this machine. Top end is no better than my old 650.

    Nice side by side comparison. I own a 2014 Polaris Sportsman and a 2020 Can Am Outlander, both 570s. I would say the same as you for each model which is why they remain strong competitors. It's good to learn what you said about the 850s.

    Hey Don! My name is Don also.
    I bought a 2010 Brute 750 new still have it to this day, I think I replaced 1 belt which was from me using it like a front end loader😁
    I leveled approximately 140 yards of loam and another 100 yards of crushed asphalt.
    Like you said if kawi came out with a 1000 I'd be pre ordering.
    I currently have a 22 outlander 1000r xtp on order. Should be here mid February... hopefully.
    My son will be using the kawi.

    I have both as well, 14 Sportsman 850, 16 Outlander 1000R. Way more throttle response on the Can Am, Polaris is ultra smooth. Ya changing belt/clutches would be more pain on Polaris, but changing those items should be few/far between. Gen maintenance (oil, gear oil changes) is TOTAL pain in rear within Can Am.... takes hours by the time you remove all plastics, guards etc to get at drains, filter etc. You remove nothing with the Polaris, takes about 10 mins.

    • @ADVENTURESThisWay
      @ADVENTURESThisWay  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      When it comes to belts/clutches when using regularly in higher performance situations clutch maintenance and inspection is critical. I
      I have to disagree on access for maintenance-both are pain-but isn't a thorough visual inspection part of maintenance as well??

    • @getwrecked488
      @getwrecked488 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ADVENTURESThisWay I don’t regularly open my belt case for inspection (maybe I should be lol) but under regular use a belt should last you a long time. I was referring more to engine and gear oil changes, if you do it yourself you’ll know the Can Am is a significantly bigger pain in the ass and takes WAY more time than the Polaris. I change both in the Polaris (including filter) in about 10 minutes.

    • @ADVENTURESThisWay
      @ADVENTURESThisWay  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hear ya, most of the Can Am folks say the Outlander takes a bit more work to access stuff compared to the Renegade...I did a fair bit of extreme terrain with my Sportsman, it was a pain to dig mud out to find the oil filter. But at least newer models have a cover for that now

    I Have owned many different Atvs over the years Honda’s , yamahas , Kawasaki Brutes and now currently own a 19 Polaris Sportsman XP 1000 premium along with a few Honda recons and Can Am Maverick Trail DPS 1000.
    The Polaris nor can am matches Japanese quality head to toe . I love the amazing comfort and smooth ride on the XP 1000 but I hate the floaty front end push feel it has ! It takes a pasture to turn around that my 2012 BF 750 could turn circles in . Turning inside tight switchback trees and stuff 100% goes to my brute forces . The XP just had way to much front end push . It does have the best seat in the history of fourwheelers however. The AWD system is flawless IMO.
    I have been considering selling it soon and getting a Can Am outlander 1000.
    My dream machine would be a suspension revised updated Kawasaki Brute Force 1000.
    They were light weight nimble handling fun muscle quads .

    • @ADVENTURESThisWay
      @ADVENTURESThisWay  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with you about most points about the Polaris other than the AWD system it does have flaws that cause parts to fail quite easily...yes it works very well-durability so-so.
      Totally Japanese quality is far superior

    • @joekearney
      @joekearney 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ADVENTURESThisWay I actually agree with how your looking at their AWD system , I should’ve stated in most conditions it’s always worked flawlessly for me . I can see that side too , such as aggressive throttle engagement against roots , or rocks, and busting diffs and or CVs.
      I’m older now and I just mainly like a lot of power and nimble handling . I saw that Can Am finally put a legit diff lock on the 21 mud packages ....do you know if the regular Outlander 1000s got the front diff lock ?
      The Visco on my Maverick Trail 1k is serviceable enough , but is still no locker .

      Can't go wrong with a Grizzly. If Yamaha put their 850 in the Grizzly 2 years ago I would have gotten one instead of buying my Polaris 850. They excel at recreational riding, hunting, etc. and are very capable at aggressive trail riding. They don't blow your hair back, but you can get many years of use out of them.

      Can't get on em and hammer down right away. If you did follow procedures then buy an 80 dollar belt or upgrade to a carlisle belt and be done with it. Everyone I know that burns polaris belts it's because of abuse. I even have one buddy who's wife burned out the one direction bearing in the clutch by using the engine to hold it on hills too much. Don't know if you mountain ride or flat lander but belts shouldn't fail prematurely. Use low range it's there for a reason.
