Original post: So, I made this video over a year ago. Never knowing what to expect. I'm considering a followup, now my channel has unexpectedly gotten a lot more traffic. I appreciate the support, and I know a lot of people disagree with my take on the game. I understand that. I never expected mass approval from attacking one of the most critically acclaimed games ever. This video was more about providing an outlet for people that I knew felt the way I did about it. I ask that you put your feelings about the game aside, and listen to what I'm trying to say here. You don't have to agree. You can still say you love the game and that's fine. But there is another perspective on the design choices they made, and that's what this is for. If you've enjoyed this video, check out my latest content. You let your feelings be known. I know exactly how you feel when one of your long running beloved franchise gets a "reboot" and everyone else all of sudden forgets how good the original was, even going as far as downplaying the original just to make the newer entry seem like it some kind Grandiose product.
I knew there was something about the new God Of War game that just didn't compel me to jump on the "Greatest game of all time" bandwagon, and after stumbling upon your video by chance and hearing your personal experiences and opinions of both the originals and new GOW, did I come to realise that I would've had the exact same feelings as you did.
Good video, bro. You definitely made a lot of people mad, but I appreciate your honest perspective.
A follow up would be awesome! Speak your feelings, you got my sub from that.

The worst part about the camera is that Santa Monica bragged about the new engine being able to handle 150 enemies compared to the 50 that GoW3 could handle. But with the camera change, the amount of focus is narrowed and there are less enemies on the screen compared to older games.

This is a classic example of scam marketing making it seem like the new GOW is some kind of upgrade and improvement when in reality its a massive downgrade compared to the old GOW games

And I can bet this same story happened with 2018 god of war more. Seeing how the new god of war outsold the entire franchise combined.
It's just a much more fun game to play than the old ones. Hack and slash was never a genre that was "good". It gets repetitive after 3 minutes. It's a one trick pony, you did your light and heavy attack you basically experienced the entire game. ah yes, combos, the combos that do as much damage as a normal light attack, but by the time you finish the button combination, you'd be able to dish out even more damage if you just mashed light attack the entire time. truly one of the genres of all time.
Oh and don't forget the saturday morning cartoon story with 2 dimensional characters.
I never owned a ps2 but when GoW came out i instantly bought the game and ask a friend to lend his ps2 to me for a week or two...
Who would win:
Kratos, son of Zeus, king of the Gods, who singlehandedly slew every God of Greece, several titans, and several mythological creatures and heroes. A man who died and came back from hell twice, who defied fate itself, and whose fights would level landscapes and even whole countries

The unnecessary and badly designed rpg mechanics and balancing is one of the reasons i didnt like this game tbh.

Refreshing to see someone ACTUALLY acknowledge God of War ALWAYS had a good story. Most reviewers are acting like the new one is the only GOW with a good story
Well, normies have never played the originals ofc they have no idea about the story. Just look at all those youtubers, none of them actually played or liked the originals only a couple of them.
I think the problem is less that God of War doesn't have a good story, and more like Kratos' story from the original games is over. What, is he going to get angry at a bunch of gods from another pantheon and kill them in a bloodthirsty rage *again*? That would just be lazy. Plus, as awesome as old Kratos is, he isn't really a character you can sympathize with, or if you can, it's only really with the feeling of rage and anger, which does leave his character feeling a bit one note. Of course, that's the entire point and it's an awesome one note, that doesn't change the fact that it's still just one note.
@@Birthday888 Dude, he wasn't one-note AT ALL. Even the nuances of his humanity were shown all through the series. People claim Kratos as one-note to justify calling the current GOW a masterpiece. The new GOW wouldn't even EXIST without Kratos' "one-note" character arc.
The biggest mistake was replacing TC Carson as Kratos to begin with. I feel he would've at least captured the changed Kratos better than the actor who voices him now.

Lack of aerial combat in the newer games really sucks. I liked how agile kratos was.

Gotta agree. Not only did it allow for aerial moves and fun tricks to pull off, but it also helped for evasion, which would’ve been very useful in the newer games given how common it is for enemies to combo and trap you in corners where they just finish you off instantly.
@@dirtyfighters7751that and enemies are weird. They’re not so hard but when you’re low on health they all gang up and attack perfectly in succession. They randomly get hard out of nowhere and others they’re dumb bots.
Kratos got old.
Now that you mention how agile Kratos was, what I like about that the most is how badass Kratos is when he climbs walls and ceilings with no climbing equipment, no fear, just his pure blades and strength to stab them into the walls and also combat while doing those
I really enjoyed (Norse) God of War on the first playthrough. That was it. With God of War III, I used to love playing that game from start to finish more times than I can count. Your observation of the close-camera during combat is spot on! Ghost of Tsushima has the behind-the-shoulder cam that also zooms out when in combat. Norse God of War could have simply done that. You also make a terrific observation about zooming out during combat would have allowed for more enemies that aren't health sponges. The Greek-era God of War games having weaker enemies in higher numbers makes you, the player, feel like god without feeling OP. I completely also agree with the lack of enemy variety in the Norse GoWs. Overall, solid criticisms and a great video.
It also feels like a cluster and makes kratos feel even more old bc the camera doesn’t really allow for aerial attacks or anything of that nature.
Well, I like both games and I certainly have played god of war 3 more times than god of war 2018, but that's because god of war 3 is a shorter game.

@@lenarteler4453 you know what he means tho. On dark souls you can’t get over a 1 foot tall ledge. You can do the sprint + jump thing to get across gaps but you can almost never go anywhere vertically in that game without ladders or steps

@@westonmuse9634 I can see where you're coming from; after all, 100 years is a literal lifetime to us. However, Kratos is _a god._ If he can age 100 years and look no more than a decade older than he did in the OG series, I think it's safe to say time doesn't affect him like it affects us.
Also, it's worth pointing out that he is still able to recover from wounds near-instantly, Wolverine-style, and is physically strong enough to flip an entire temple upside-down. Regardless of his age, "upgrading armor" is tonally inconsistent with what Kratos is capable of in the game.

And like I mentioned above, age is only part of the issue. Kratos is still a physical behemoth of a man. He can Wolverine-heal, but apparently still needs a half-inch of leather to really soak up those hits.
I'm still talking about silly it is that Kratos has to buy armor, as part of a larger criticism that the game's RPG systems are half-baked and unnecessary.
I just finished God of War 2018 and it feels like the combat is nerfed. Combat was way better in the trilogy.

What I also hate is the "relatability" BS Santa Monica Studios was pushing during development. They kept going on about how "Oh, the people that grew up with the original God Of War are dads now so they aren't into the edgy gore filled games anymore". Please, even when I'm an old man I'm still going to enjoy the original trilogy. Don't assume what I'll be into when I'm older, Santa Monica.
I actually loved "God of Bore" until i decided to replayOG - GOW, then I remembered why I loved the franchise in the first place. I enjoyed the story more than anything else, but the story has ALWAYS been good.
I don't like this stance of "character progression" to justify Kratos' castration - he's supposed to be an anti-hero.
I do yearn for the Kratos of old, but I fear those days have long passed and we are now stuck with a Kratos mired with (as said by another famous gaming critic) "Jiminy cockthroat" gaming elements, ultimately killing the identity of what made Kratos and GOW so great.

Tbf they don't really have easy access to the older games all u can do is emulate or buy an older console (PS2s aren't hard to find but their lifespan don't last as long and PS3? A physical copy is ur only option since their PSN store is down now) so I can't blame them for a limited perception cuz these guys don't look that deep into games

I think it's important to mention that Kratos did not want forgiveness, but to be stripped of the memories of his sins. They only said they'd forgive him which he understood as they agreed to his wishes. Buuuut we all know how that ended up. Moral of the story is, don't try to pull a fast one on Kratos.

That bit about playing the older games on higher difficulty is on point. Almost every move you do matters and if you let yourself be carried away by doing combos you're gonna get pummeled to death by mobs of enemies. The harder the difficulty the more tactical you need to be when utilizing your arsenal of spells weapons and combos.
It's like everyone just forgot.

@Nocturnal Death Nothing requires you to change weapons in 2018 as well. As runic attacks override the the one enemy that forces you to switch (the ice dudes.) Nvm the fact if you do a fresh new game + run it is completely beatable with just the chains, or just the fists. Sure you need atreus as well but he serves the purpose magic and items did in the old. Literally God of War 3 forced you to changed to cestus for certain enemies.
God of War 2018 can be beaten on GMGOW by literally holding R2 (executioner's cleave) and nothing else. I've done it. Hold R2 rinse and repeat until the end. That isn't tactical. I'm sure you get the point.
The funny thing is I am right. Yes light, light, heavy is an obvious crutch string but it required build up to the reward (The stagger/Knockdown of the heavy), enemy corralling into it and spacing at least. Is it too strong? Sure. Is it suddenly game breaking? No because then you would have to treat executioner's cleave with this same treatment, this myopic view of the combat. (Btw I am pretty sure it even works on most ice enemies still anyway)

I'm a huge God Of War fan and I loved GOW2018... But I've only ever beat it once... GOW 1 x3, GOW 2 x2, Ascension x2 GOW 3 X 9... I went back to GOW2018 after doing a playthrough of GOW3 and all I thought was... Man this shit is tedious.

Because you can finish the previous God of War games in a weekend. The latest one is on average 40 hours long.

GMGOW is super scuffed unless your on new game plus, then it's a lot more balanced (or maybe i'm just bad :/ this was my first soulslike)

I was an idiot to think gow community would be more mature than tlou2 fans. I don't understand, really don't. It seems to me people aren't just unable to accept things have an end (look at terminator or some other franchise that continued even after was already done) but also incapable of even thinking that maybe the things they like aren't that perfect after All. The thing you said about the developers is just.... I heard they themselves are claiming Kratos is finally deep and god of war matured. Idk what their intentions are but that's just bollocks. I saw people talking about the old gow games as shallow and weak and they played them. But it's not deep because it doesn't have top notch graphics or several emotional cinematic moments?

Assassins creed is my favorite series but when someone criticizes me for liking Origins or Odyssey. Or thinking that Assassins creed 2 is kinda bare bones in regards to combat. (I still thoroughly enjoy Ac2)

Good video. I have played the original GoW and GoW3 and even though I stuck to Normal difficulty and still barely survived I had a lot of fun. It’s great to hear why that combat was so deep. Even though I was never good at it, I could tell it was much more than a button masher like I had read in some opinions (mostly because I wasn’t getting achievements and scores that reflected good play-similar to statues in Bayonetta).
I just started GoW 2018 and only by the second large troll after meeting the first dwarf I was feeling like a lot of things were “off” and I was getting very little satisfaction out of playing, and already dreading restarting fights after dying (repeatedly) for what I considered cheap reasons, which isn’t a good sign. I also got no joy or excitement looking at the impending skill/item tree.

That FANTASTIC scene in elysium was powerful stuff. Forgoing the relationship he could have had with his child to save humanity... only to kill them all anyway.

That scene is mostly hard, well it would be hard either way, because as the player you HAVE to push her away. Not many games give me feels but that moment does.
It takes all the Carnage you feel when mashing the circle button to kill normal enemies and uses a meat tenderizer to mash your soul.

I agree with your points here. The combat in the previous GOW games were much more exciting and had a lot of verticality and gore to it. The new GOW combat was not as exciting and intense as the previous games, and the enemies and bosses were repetitive and boring. But GOW had to evolve as a story, and the Norse mythology was a great step taken by Santa Monica. I'm hoping they make the combat more intense and exciting in Ragnarok, with the addition of more diverse enemies and bosses.

I really agree with the bosses fights and fights in general. In my opinion, they were kind of boring and not impressive in comparison with the other games.
IDK, for me the bosses in this game are somewhat similar to the other games, older games had you fight them, then fight smaller enemies or big ones, then fight them again about 3 or 4 times, then you qte to kill them in a gruesome way. same thing with the fights in this game. But I do want to hear your thoughts as well. I do like having a diff perspective.

@@mr.amazonsins8013 i hope the combat in general gets more varied and we get more interesting enemies and mechanics ,cause honestly there’s no other way to put it ,the combat in this game is bad ,just bad : repetitive ,oversimplified, the ARPG elements turn fights into a joke ,and just too much HP ,preety much the only way this game knows to buff it’s enemies is to turn them into damage sponges ,or to make them dans around the arena ,forcing you to wrestle the camera
Of course the easy solution to this problem is to also dash around the arena and put your back againt a corner ,so you can see all the arena ,but it gets old quick
And the bosses are easier and less challenging than most of the normal enemy encounters
You see , in almost every game , the bosses are purpusely designed to be extremely hard to stun ,so that you Both keep dishing out your attacks ,heck ,some of the best ones ,like Hércules , could even parry your attacks.
However ,here , Baldur is as easy to Block and stun as the average draugur (the regular zombi goons), so fighting him is just like fighting a dashing draugur with a gigantic health bar
The dragon is a set piece battle like the Collosus or Cronos but it lacks the element of scale that made those interesting : fighting an army of gross monsters as you climb your way up your mountain sized pops as he attepts to squash you , being trown around a burning city by a gold statue while performant epic QUTEs . It resembles the hydra in the original , in that it takes way too long and is hella repetitive

honestly when i first played gow4 something never felt right and i could never put my finger on why. but this video just sums up the issues i had with the game and i could never finish it. i feel like the game gives you the allusion that the story is deep when i have no reason to be invested into it.
Except when you actually look into it the story is very deep. From the very dialogue itself it foreshadows a ton of things to follow in the sequel. They planned it all out. They even deeped dived into mythology more. For example kratos cutting the apple in half that sindri throws at him is because in greek mythlogy that was how males would propose to others. I feel like the game is amazing and incredibly deep. I disagree hard with him even though I've agree'd with him on his doom eternal maurauder video. Even in this video essay I think he pretentiously emotion dump and load onto people as he does through out. "it will drive you insane" "the combat is boring" "you hate the first 10 minutes of dialogue" etc etc. Those aren't exact quotes just general messages he pushed and was overly critiquing as it was very subjective. Even when he pointed out on the lack of depth of the combat he is completely ignoring the amount of mastery people got over these games literally stun locking bosses to death on max difficulty cause they've mastered the combat. He said he is fine with games trying to take different directions but the beginning of this video was literally just fan boying over the original games rather than just getting to objective critiques.

When you brought up Doom2016 in this video, incidentally Doom Eternal feels more like a classic GOW game than the new one. Old GoW and Eternal = platforming, unashamed badassery, and amazing combat loop.

It's mostly just cash grab switch ports, and remasters or games that are still good but have been abandoned. Lots of indies games come out every year. But they all are so similar I see no reason to upgrade. There are 100s of "games" on switch that are just text adventures with slutty animes children for fat men to jerk off to. PS5 games are just re-skins of games from 2014. And Xboxone/series has been the same console with the same useless games for 10 years now. Nintendo just releases lazy shit games because they know collectors will buy anything they put out to scalp it on ebay. Video games are just a medium to steal your money and waste your time. Only play stuff from before 2015 and you are not missing anything important in gaming history.
I remember when I was playing gow 3 chaos mode having to write down where to use magic because of how game changing it was, even needing to reset to my last save when I went into a big fight without magic, really miss that.

As a hardcore fan of the original trilogy, I absolutely loved the new game too. Only complaints was lack of enemy and boss variety and not quite brutal enough overall. I wanna brutally murder Thor like Hermes in GoW3. Hopefully the next game steps up the sheer brutality and awesome scenery.
I did not play the originals but I still found problems like Kratos' power level reskinned troll bosses who should not be bosses at all ( that would make the game better). I personally loved the combat and story( I am not bashing the Greek story as I have not played it) Overall it deserves most of its praise but people can have different opinions

yeah, the bosses were my biggest complaint. the optional valkyrie battles were the best, most intense boss fights in the game imo. pretty disappointing that the story bosses were so lame in comparison. i played on give me god of war mode and the story bosses were still boring and overly easy. but those valkyrie battles never got old for me. hoping in the next game there are a lot more story bosses and they are done much better than the first game.
other than that complaint though, i love the combat in gow4, i think it was done perfectly. once you begin unlocking abilities there is so much variety in combat.
oh yeah, one more minor complaint are the limited finishing moves. they are very cool but quickly become repetitive. i hope they add several choices to finish off stunned enemies in the next game, that would make a big difference.

One thing I love about Zeus' lighting spell in God of War 1, is that the spell is used at the end of the game in a cut scene. I can't remember any game really doing that. Spells you get during the game only exist while playing the game and not in the cut scenes [except here of course]
Outside of the GOW series, Kingdom Hearts does this sometimes. In some cutscenes Donald uses Curaga and Sora uses his Shooting Star keyblade's transformation during the Big Hero 6 world. It's super cool to see the abilities the characters get used in cutscenes

Thank you for this. I have LOVED all of the original GOW games, even the PSP ones. I played about 10 mins of the 2018 and just said, "nope." Then turned it off. I knew right away it was not for me. I can see why others would enjoy the new two games, but the soul of what it used to be is gone completely.

They should've just take inspiration from yakuza's combat camera perspective. When traveling it's third person but when in combat it zooms out and there's more visual clarity on where the enemies are.
Very late but I kind of liked the fact his wife wasnt shown for most of the game because if it's someone kratos is willing to go so far for her so she was atleast special. Wish they played more into a mystery or like slowly let the characters open up more and more to each other and talk about her more.
If it was a brand new game without the GOW name the fact we're given long drawn out opening sequence for a woman we don't know or never was shown, would have way more people pointing out the sloppy jump in the middle story telling

I liked how they kept her appearance hidden and all that you saw of her was on the murals. There's a certain beauty in ambiguity that leaves you wondering what she look like and you just make your own idea of her appearance. The way other characters describe her will bring up a different woman for each player for whoever you know that fits those descriptions. For myself I pictured my mom.
Ragnarok ruins that by having Kratos go into dream sequences where he talks to his late wife. Ironically she's a ginger like my mom is, but it destroyed that graceful angelic ambiguity similar to how Master Chief taking off his helmet in the Halo show ruins his mystery.

It's an artistic choice at best and lazy at worst, there's no buildup or payoff with her appearance. The player doesn't learn something new or gain understanding by seeing or not seeing her face.

She's not a representation of all mother's or all wives she was just meant to be a character the player felt for.

Not really a good parallel to make considering that when Team Ninja wanted to make a game different in style from NG, they just created a new IP (something that Sony did not have the confidence to do). The biggest issue is that they are focusing on the story loop and not on enjoyable gameplay. Quick-time cutscenes are cool but it felt like most of god of war 2018 was an intermission between those high-quality cutscenes. You spend most of the game killing indistinguishable meat mobs and solving basic puzzles to get to the next part until you get to the end of the game with one boss fight that matters, and its very good as a climax, overshadowing that you had to do a boring grind to get there
Just finished God of War 2 again after 13 years 😂, and I still love the game, still remember some to the secrets and puzzles. This game franchise will always be close to my heart. Haven't played yet GOW 2018, cause I'm waiting for the PS4 to be cheaper when PS 5 releases, cause Im poor hahahaha...

It isn't just about button mashing it's about getting the combos. The things i miss about the older games is that kratos would have like magic the new game just feels like power up that comes from items or from the axe. Another thing hate about the new game is that the enemy executions feel repetitive and no variation in them like in the older games.

One day people will hopefully realize not every game needs a new super slow, repetative and cinematic story to be good.
I blame naughty dog for this. Games now are focusing on graphics and story, rather than fun and intuitive gameplay. Hence, one of the reason why I adore nintendo's game output. They never try and overachieve technically, and focus on making their games fun to play. The industry really needs to stop awarding these type of games that try to be cinematic movies, rather than actual games.

Imo, that’s not even the biggest problem with GOW 2018 (though being able to skip the cutscenes would be nice). RDR2 did a great job using the story to give a narrative-driven experience. Bloodborne as well, to a lesser extent.
I think the gameplay and world building is just poor on GOW 2018. The combat is boring, because the high health and lack of flinch makes it feel like you’re fighting enemies with paper swords. Difficulty is added artificially by simply giving the enemies more health, especially when fighting opponents you’re supposed to fight later. They couldn’t have just, given tougher opponents faster attacks and stuff? There’s only like 4-5 enemy types total, bosses are reused and honestly not that fun outside a couple, and it’s a bit too easy and forgiving.
The puzzles are slow and grind the game to a halt, as well as feeling unnecessary at points. The gameplay is just a constant loop of “boy we have a problem”, puzzle, fight, rinse and repeat.
As for the world building, the open world feels… lifeless and stale. The side quests are not really worth doing and are largely boring as they follow the same gameplay loops as the main quests, and rewards aren’t really anything too special, which just makes them feel useless. The world is also quite small and limited, and never really expands outside of opening other realms. There’s also never really a reason to go back and visit anyone, like, say the witch, because when you have to see people the main quest will tell you to do so.
With all of this, God of War feels like an identity crisis. It doesn’t really do anything well. I guess it’s okay in certain areas. Is it an RPG? Well, it’d be a pretty subpar one. Action game? Eh, the combat wasn’t anything great. Cinematic film? Well, the film was a wild goose chase of a guy and his son trying to go up the mountain, with some over the top plot twists (“this is the wrong mountain!”) to boot. Is it a puzzle game? Well, it’s not a very creative one considering most of the puzzles are just throwing your axe at something shiny. So what is the game good at?

To be fair regarding the lack of variety in visual enemy design: The Skandinavians didn't have as much imagination as the Greek did. At least in arbitrarily mashing real animals including humans together.

@@someguy9970 Of course there are a ton of creatures, but most of them are merely upscaled - if at all - versions of rather normal animals. If you compare them to the tons of hybrids in Greek mythology, it does not give much room for weird enemy design. Nidhöggr, Fafnir, Sleipnir, Garm... they are all not that much out there as the Chimaera and Medusa.

Though I see contradictions, I respectfully disagree. I don't think God of War is RUINED because of 1 new popular game. I think that's just blowing it out of proportion. The game is different from the original trilogy (plus the prequels and Ascension), but thinking that this ruins all of that is just childlike.
It certainly ruins the potential for an actual GOW game being made in the future.

40:02 one of my favourite moments in all of God of War series is when you have to hit the circle button to push Calliope towards the end. It is one of the hardest things to do, not because you symphatise with Kratos and his grief but because it is litterally hard. I am 99% sure that moment is the fastest you need to press the circle button in order to succed in the whole series. Ripping of cyclops eyes, decapitating gorgons even killing gods are a lot easier than pushing away a child, pushing away Kratos' daughter all so you can save her but never see her again. Not to mention when you succed the first time she grabs you again and you have to push her away again and it is harder the second time. When you manage to push her away for good the third time she falls to the ground defeated and there is no raye or triumph in Kratos, just sadness.
That is game design and story working together to show Kratos' feelings and show that this is the hardest thing he ever had to to in the games.
20:00 exactly literally 100% my thoughts too at this exact same area, at this point i knew i would not finish the game and drop it because it meant only two things;
1. Combat will be like this throughout the whole game
2. Or the combat only gets interesting later on in the game, meaning the first part of the game will be a slog to go trhough.
Nope, very early in you get abilities and your axe starts having its own abilities, and btw early on when you get the blades of chaos, you also get amazing abilities with that weapon, you shouldn’t have stopped playing
As a counter point to the other guy replying that has clearly not played many video games in his life, the combat is shallow as fuck the whole way through.
@@MooseCastle I’ve played games my entire life, I played all the original god of wars, man I go way back to super Mario sunshine and money ball lmao, but just because someone plays games don’t mean they can’t enjoy god of war, I mean bro ragnarok is the biggest game rn, so you can tell majority of people love it, even gamers
@@MooseCastle and man, gid of war 2018 the blades had 10 abilities of its own, and the axe had 10 as well, and the combos you could get especially with the blades felt great,
Comparing the fighting system in the new GoW to the old ones feels like opposite of Devil May Cry 5 compared to 1,3 and 4. DMCV accepted their past and present, improved on it. Showed maturity, learning with it's past - knowing what's good, improving on what's bad or letting some things go. That's true progress and developement. Games aren't supposed to cater to the masses. They're supposed to have a identity, which is what most games fail nowadays.
Hey consistency is a good policy a good chunk of the time, but personally I’m not opposed to developers trying new things with their ips. If I don’t like it I don’t like it. But I’d rather people try new things and fail than have the same game repackaged for 2 decades. I think you need a variety of approaches for a good gaming market.
Sorry to tell you but games have to cater to the masses this game tried going to another direction and they nailed it which is rare nowadays but having the identity created plus pleasing the players is difficult on the sole basis that whatever sells sells have you notice that games like Cod And nba 2k or even IPhones and Battlefield have been doing? They have copy pasted the same things with a bunch new stuff but same platform to stand on because it sells it’s about business some games have politically statements to please the masses to control the pr relations But this title has shown being both is possible hence why it’s so critically acclaimed and great praises from critics and players

tf DMC1 and 2's combat system were completely scrapped in 5, 3 mostly did it too but at least it kind of kept the weird RE/onimusha camera
I love the new GoW! But i agree with you. The camera angle made everything feel epic and the boss fights were more grand and brutal in the original games. I grew up with the originals so they always have a special place in my heart but i respect and appreciate the new GoW. My only hope for ragnorak is that we have better boss fights and more gore.
He is right about alot of things, as in the motivation to fight enemies. I would have definitely wanted to have a combo meter to see how high I can go. But to do that, i have to play really well. Or even the r3 stun attacks, where at the end of a brutal finish. You're rewarded with maybe bonus xp since orbs are gone. But even with these gone, it never removed the enjoyment, it just would be a nice edition.
Based on what they showed in the trailers I am certain ragnarok wont be different. Omg that camera angle is just terrible....

I played through to the first troll fight on a friend’s copy of this game and almost cried from boredom. I was so excited to play a serious, high-skill brawler game, so I chose the expert difficulty. That didn’t last past the first combat encounter due to the outrageous health pools lol. But yeah, it was not God of War in any way, gameplay-wise. Kept telling myself I’d pick it up some day since people talk so highly of it, but I still haven’t. May never, at this point.
