The image isn't blurry. If you're seeing it blurry you should try watching the video on a desktop PC, and if you're on a phone, try setting it to use more bandwidth. RSR isn't working on Diablo 4 since it doesn't have exclusive full screen mode, so, even though you can see that RSR is activated in Armoury Crate, nothing is actually happening.

One way around it is to manually set the APU to 15W in Armoury Crate. You can set all the sliders to 15W so that it doesn't boost above 15W. But yeah, it's pretty frustrating.
Thanks for the tip. I restarted the Ally and 15w started working again. However, I noticed too when I go into Turbo mode unplugged, APU watt goes to 30 instead of 25 and plugged in, it goes to 45 instead of 30 (which is fine since it's plugged in)
@@MikeyFrames Yeah, that's just the way it works. Go to Armoury Crate and use the manual mode, they have interesting tooltips that give some insight about how the Z1 Extreme chip works, basically it works at a given TDP but it can boost that TDP for up to 2 minutes to a different max. In performance mode the boost is up to 20W and in turbo mode the boost is up to 30W. If you set a manual profile you can configure the boost as you wish, maybe a 15W with no boost works for you or you want to use 15W with 30W boost, it's up to you.
Qtn: planning to play this on a 16inches 2k lcd screen 120hz and I want it plug to a dock using mouse and keyboard for long lasting gaming. Which setting you recommend so that no issues or overheating in time since it will be plug all the time like a laptop setting. Which configue do you recommend? Possible would last 3-5hours. Thanms
With screen that small. I think quality setting is not that important. I'm playing on my 16inch Laptop w/ 2060@100-140fps Low-Med Setting and i don't notice the quality. FPS>Quality
I'll try to explain the differences between the Ally's and the Steam Decks screen. Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) is a feature that adjusts the refresh rate of a screen to match the frame rate of the game being played. This synchronization between the screen and the game helps to provide a smoother gaming experience by reducing screen tearing. In the Ally, this VRR can operate within a range of 48 to 120 Hz. If your game's frame rate drops below 48 fps, the Ally uses a feature known as Low Framerate Compensation (LFC). LFC works by duplicating frames so they fit within the display's operational refresh rate range, reducing stutter that can occur at lower frame rates. You can cap the frame rate on the Ally and it won't disrupt VRR as long as it's within the 48-120 Hz range. When you cap the frame rate, you're telling your GPU to ease up when it hits that cap. If the frame rate drops (like to 40 fps), the Ally's display will adjust its refresh rate to match, thanks to VRR. The Steam Deck, on the other hand, allows you to manually set the display refresh rate (40-60Hz range). However, with the Ally, you don't need to manually adjust these settings thanks to the combination of VRR and LFC technologies. The display will dynamically adjust its refresh rate to match the GPU's frame rate output, always providing a smooth gaming experience.
@@benchmarkbros hi yes I get how vrr works. I was hoping Asus would allow you to cap the screen refresh rate to 40hz like the Steam deck does. It's a deal breaker for me. I don't much enjoy 30fps and I don't like running at ultra low settings either for 60hz. With my steam deck I can get decent settings at 40hz and 40fps feels soooo good compared to 30. It also feels a lot more consistent then say bouncing all over the place between 48 and 60. You can definitely feel it. At least I can anyway even with vrr. Frame timing and consistency is just as important as the actual FPS number itself, even with vrr. If ally does give you the option to lock the screen refresh rate to 40hz I won't be buying it.
@samhawkes6597 With VRR limiting the game to 40fps is the same thing as setting the screen's refresh rate to 40Hz. The Ally is a step above the Steam Deck regarding the screen and its capabilities.
@@benchmarkbros no listing the FPS in game isn't the same. When you set the screen itself to 40hz and vsync in game you get perfectly timed frames and it feels great. Quite often when you limit the FPS in the game settings whether that be 40, 60 or anything else, it feels dreadful with constant frame time spikes and everything. Trust me I've been pc gaming for many years, build my own rigs etc. The Steam decks ability to set the screen itself to 40hz and play at that is game changing. I was really hoping the Rog ally would have the same feature. Seems not at this stage
No issues with installing any game; it's a Windows device after all. At first, I was a bit disappointed by the Ally, but after a month with it, I think I prefer it over the Steam Deck if money isn't an issue for you. At 15W, you'll get the same performance as the Steam Deck at 15W in most cases, and then if you can plug it in, you can boost fps by 30% on average. The screen is gorgeous and sharp; the colors are rich and intense, and having VRR really smoothens things to the point where even 25fps feels like you're getting good fps. But If money is a concern, then the Steam Deck has a much better performance/$ ratio than the Ally for sure.
@@benchmarkbros thanks for taking the time to reply! Yeah this device looks pretty sweet, specially going on vacations if you want to game a little with out a PC, this looks perfect !
I was expecting a mean stress test with multiplayer and shit ton of NPCs. This gameplay was very lite. I can imagine fps dipping later on in the game when more npcs are involved.
Not really, and besides, I see it this way: of you're overall gameplay time, you'll probably spend less than 0.1% of that time in places with NPCs, so if it dips or not isn't going to affect the overall gaming experience that much.
note u also have RSR on, so you're upscaling twice. which is why it looks so blurry

Hello one quick question. Did you use the capture card to another pc or directly to a external monitor??
I connected the device to the capture card connected to my pc.
Pre purchased Diablo 4 haven’t played it yet.
Still play diablo immortal on my phone. Would I be able to play both on this?
Yes, you should be able to play them fine.
I also ran into the issue where I was getting higher APU than 15w on Performance mode. Quite frustrating

And literally as I was typing that reply, the APU went down to 21-25....

Anything above the low preset is fine on a screen this small. I did find the low preset to look noticeably worse than the medium preset.
What are you using for a controller set up
The Ally in controller mode that's all.
I am having trouble setting controls for the gamepad buttons on the Ally. How do I set them?
Switch control mode from auto to game pad on command center
@williammartinez5916 Thank you. When I figured it out I felt so dumb lmao
Can you set the refresh rate to 40hz like you can with the Steam deck, or is the 40fps mode you use game specific? Thanks

Did you change the vram settings from the default 4gb?
The VRAM allocations is set to auto.
Are you satisfy with the Ally ? Any issues installing D4 ?

Hey sir, how much RAM did you allocate to APU and how much RAM is in use when you play like that? I.e. medium settings?
The VRAM allocation was set to auto for these tests.
How was the battery life ?
You can expect to get around an hour and a half off battery life in the best case scenario.
ever use a gaming laptop? lets just say.. ya gonna wanna plug in.. LOL
Bios version ?
3.19 with the latest APU drivers.

Play on the go? You gunna have WiFi all the time?
hotspot ftw
@@zcw123lol
Anywhere I sit down or waiting for something usually has wifi so this is a good option
I use my hotspot at work. Worked pretty well.
I would do pvp or a hardcore character or anything but I’ve been pretty impressed
If you have an iPhone and have an unlimited data you can utilize the hotspot feature on the go 🙌🏽 I do it all the time
Another one testing games at 720p res on a 1080p device. My god...
I'm guessing you didn't watch the whole video if you're saying that 😂
How you switch from 1080 to 720? Thanks
You can either use armory crate, change your desktop resolution, or change the resolution in game.
