Imo get the normal version Forester. The STi version isn't worth the money. There many Forester which has the converted transmission from 4AT to 5 speed. The STi Forester lacks the DCCD which the WRX STi has.
I got the 2004 Forester 2.0XT 4AT. But i got a load of STi and WRX parts installed.
WRX Turbo unit, STi intercooler. Decat and the STi style exhaust pipe and K&N drop in air filter, 255l fuel pump and a ECUTek retune. Got around 280bhp at the crank.
If you go the WRX STi route.
Go for the 2004-2006 Blob eye STi. The gearbox on this gen is the strongest. The GC8 era of WRX had the better forged pistons vs the hypereutectic cast in the later gens but as long you use the correct engine oil and change it regularly. The engine can last for 100k miles before it needs any major overhaul. Mine lasted for over 100k miles before the AT gearbox died on me. Then i junk it for the Subari XV/Crosstrek 1.6L.

in the U.S. we got to buy the 2.5 xt in manual without converting, comes with the td04 from a wrx, faster than a wrx from the factory. and all you need to make 280 WHEEL horsepower is sti ecu/cobb accessport, hood scoop, vf39 turbo, sti intercooler, and exhaust. they make more wheel horsepower than an sti when theyre sti parts swapped. im sorry man. 2.0l auto sounds awful. 2 other simple mods and you wind up at almost exactly 300whp

i would get the forester (only if i had the money) because it is super rare and if you ever want / going to sell it as you said it was not made overseas you can sell it for probably twice the price in some other country if the car is in good condition, but the white sti isnt bad at all, go for the forester if you can but the white sti wouldnt be bad for the price.

  • @Talisstarcraft

The wagon is rare find that you might not have the opportunity to get again. At the same time, it's not worth to spend a significant amount more when there's a regular STI available as well.

The Forester STI is very rare, so that is what you are paying for. I added most all the STI bits to my XT. STI Steering rack, full brakes, full Japanese Forester STI suspension. It's been a great car that still drives very well despiyte getting up in the mileage. the only downside is that the body lacks stiffness. Otherwise, the perfect car. (Ok, not in beauty)

I just love the FF old-school end tune Hahaha.
Get the impreza. Lighter and more power.
But subie have a few weak parts from factory that will create maintenance costs.... I.e the valve cover gaskets, a clip in the central diff assembly. As some said check which years they had a bad engine model etc.
If it's been babied it should be fine but since it's a fun car to drive, expect previous owners to have driven it hard a lot (it's ment for it).
Check the timing belt wear too and if the car has gotten a ecu tune up otlr a boost increase, as it would have put more wear for a factory car than usual for the milleage. And the closer this year the better too but the price will go up....
I own a 2000 legacy B4 RSK jdm that had 42k on it only. But age took its toll on every rubber hoses and fuel pump and gaskets......
So if it's old it's cheaper, but even with low Mil you will have maintenance costs due to wear and age. If you buy more recent price goes up but better models and less risks weak parts.
Subarus are a dream to drive, especially the wrx sti!
    Good luck!
(and do car stickers, everyone want some!)

Reverse Orca E46 its just a souped up version of the normal Forester with STi bits and the 6 speed manaual gearbox and Brembo brakes.
My own Forester 2.0XT is way cheaper and i got my WRX/STi parts from fellow Subaru owners and you get the same power if not more than the STi version.

Dude I have a 2002 forester SF5 S/TB STi and yes with the EJ Motor. They made more forester sti’s than just the SG9. Again, only made in Japan though not over seas. I had to import mine to Canada. But yeah man love the SG’s as they are much more ballsey.

Suln Ramb sure man. Sorry for the late reply. The differences between the stb and stb sti is the suspension, steering rack, 10more hp I believe and recaro STI seats, black interior, STI body kit and BBS factory wheels and emblems. Only 800 Were made in standard for the STI STB’s and the rest were auto

As a Subaru owner i can say there very reliable and nice to drive. One thought though: Gas milage is terrible so if you get one be prepeared to put up the gas Money, very often. If thats ok then go ahead and buy. The only car i know of that beats it in having worse gas milage is the Mazda RX 7 FD, that car is darn scary in the consumption.

  • @sikbug

I have a 04 Sti Forester in Japan, it's my only car. I don't actually drive every day, but a few times a week, but the extra space inside is great. I have a baby seat in it and I can still fit a ton of stuff in there for beach or costco trips. One thing I will say, it's a little big for a lot of Japan streets, sometimes I have to just nope my way out of a road, because it just won't fit. I'm also slammed on tien suspension, which I wouldn't recommend on the Forester if you daily it in Japan, just adds to the list of roads you can't use. I absolutely love the car though, and for me, I like the 04 one even more than the face-lifted 05+ ones. With more miles, you can find one a lot cheaper than that. I'll sell you mine for 10k lol

That’s a lot for a forester even if it’s a sti if you need space just look at a four door maybe a evolution or just a regular sti. We have them here in Canada and they usually go for like low tens no one really wants it except for the engine

Keep shopping around and soon something will come along. Personally I really like Subaru and I own a 2015 STI. But, you could also go the route on building a basic Forester to the STI level. This way you can take your time financially and build it the way you want it to be. Yes, I understand about the Forester STI being a limited edition and holding it's value. So, good luck and I hope your get your car that you want. I will also buy something in your store also. Great channel you have and I really enjoy seeing the Japanese car meets. If your really into Subaru, I run the Subaru International Owners Group (SIOG) on facebook. Please check me out if your not already in the group. Thanks!!!

  • @mezje
    @mezje 6 ปีที่แล้ว

All of my friends that have owned rexxys etc and moved to forester's or similar cars have regret it or not used it for what it's for.
Too much money and being debt is not the way to go at all. The normal STIs really aren't that bad on space and I can't see the forester going up in value, especially not in Japan. If people want big people movers they want cheap, economical cars. If they want to lash out they will get a crown wagon or similar, not an old STI - niche market.

    • @ALBO
      @ALBO  6 ปีที่แล้ว

I agree that being in debt is not fun, but think about it like this. For easy comparison Let’s say that the car was $12,000, and I planned to save $1000 every month for a year to buy it. A year later, I would buy the car in cash. I would suffer for one year to delay my gratification to buy the car all at once. If I were to take out a loan for that $12,000, buy the car, and pay it off every month for a year, I would be in basically the exact same financial position a year later except I would have already been driving the car that past year and enjoying it, and also have built up better credit for a year.
It’s one thing to save up 2-3 months to buy a cheap beater, but as I grow up, I want to drive better, safer cars that I can drive my family around comfortably.
Anyway if I bought the Forester STi and decided to sell it at some point, I would sell it wherever it fetched the highest price, probably overseas. Similar condition ones are already fetching 20K here in Japan and I’m pretty confident an authentic JDM STi forester will be highly sought after in a couple years once you can import them to Canada. That is, if I even end up wanting to sell it (if I were to buy it in the first place her is.)
But yep, point being is, in life, we go into debt for a lot of things - student loans, mortgages, cars etc. Sure I could buy a beater civic or something really cheap that will last forever, but I’m a car enthusiast like you so sometimes we have to make choices:)
Anyway I don’t know why I wrote such a long comment but thank you for watching my content and I hope you have a great day.

if the difference is 3k for the wrx sti to 13k for the forester sti i would go for the WRX STi unless you need all the room then get the one you need

Honestly speaking, sorry but you'd be better off without it. The price, the hassle etc. Unless its your number one dream car, i wouldn't consider you to get it. If its an actual holy grail like a gtr r34, then maybe.
Wish you the best on finding the perfect car in the future.
Also, keep up the excellent work albo!

Dude str8 up i have an stb which is the same ej but stick sti arent (yes the ej205) and if u paid more than 5000-7000 imported. Im taking less then 100××× like mine had 86000 and thats a decent bit for an impoted foz. Anyways With opi and mechanical included im just saying thats in us too. Maybe consider importing through your northern friends next time save money and theirs cars already here anyways cheers and enjoy your adventure.
