      Met him at the meet-up, he’s was a pleasure to talk to and made me a few nice little deals on some tools. I live 800 miles away, and he made sure to tell me if I ever have any trouble with the stuff I bought he’d take care of. I’m kind of glad he’s 800 miles away, I’d spend WAY too much money on his truck. But, all the dealers on this channel are super nice guys.

    There are fewer and fewer actual "Mechanics" around anymore. Mostly what we see are parts replacers. Used to we would rebuild a starter or alternator. I can't tell you how many times I replaced brushes in a starter or alternator or replaced the bearing in an alternator. Used to we could easily get the parts to do this type of work. Nowadays the parts houses only want to sell you a new starter or alternator when it actually only needs a $5 part replaced.

  • @TheInfectedWreck
    @TheInfectedWreck 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    We still do a lot of starter/alternator overhauls at my job, especially for tractors like you mentionned and other old heavy machinery where it's easier to source the brushes or diodes bridges for alternators than the actual complete part and much more efficient cost wise for the customer aswell.

    • @SnD340
      @SnD340 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If ball joints and bushing are bad, Honestly it's easier to replace the whole arm in most cases. Some vehicles control arms don't have serviceable ball joints and bushings. Meaning you'd have to replace the whole control arm regardless if the arm itself was okay. But it's a lot cheaper to replace a bushing and ball joint.

    So I used to work at AutoZone before working at the dealer. Lifetime brake pads ARE CORRECT if you buy them today and in 2 years they go bad you bring them in to swap them out. No issues. Now as for the shops advertising lifetime brakes I bet they're only saying for parts. The labor I assume will have to be paid I'm not sure about that

    If you're interested, Tiger Tool makes a socket C clamp like that Matco, but not made in China like the Matco (made in Canada), in case you want to pick one up. However, the Matco one is deeper, so that is an advantage for it in some cases, but the shallower one would likely be stronger against bends. So, I could see how both would be handy to have.

    Grab some axle bearing grease a finger full in each cap. Not to much or when u press it together itll either prevent it from pressing on all the way or it'll force the grease out around the dust seals and ruin them. It'll help a lot for keeping the needles in place if u feel uneasy about them. Slip em in and love tap em to get started holding the joint in the cap while tapping it. And if u press one in to far and the joint doesn't freely move around without force or binding them just whack the yoke once in each side and itll shock them apart ever so to free em up! Done hundreds of u joints they come to u with time

    There are some driveshafts you can't replace the u joints in,staked in from the factory.Replace the whole driveshaft is the fix when the u joint goes bad in them.The Chevrolet and GMC HD2500 and up 4x4 trucks with the Allison,don't ignore a driveline vibration problem and bad u joint.Ignore these and the repair gets more expensive.Breaks the tailshaft housing where the transfer case goes into,One local transmission repair shop in my area has seen this happen replacing the rear tailshaft housing.The factory GM u joints,torch is needed to get rid of the nylon material holding the cups in

Took a genuine jd remanufactured starter out of the box a little while ago only to find it still had the hammer marks where someone else already tried it. Last year a remanufactured alternator wouldn't work at all. Gave up trying remaned Jd parts.

      I prefer the 14.4 much more. The battery doesn’t fall out and I like the trigger better than the paddle. Plus the head is smaller. I did a video comparing them. The Milwaukee claims to be stronger but we put that to rest pretty quick

    Are all of Matco tools made in China? Or just some random stuff like that C frame press? I noticed it says on the box made in China. I personally have no issues with Chinas tools. Quality can be had anywhere in the world. It just depends on the manufacturing process. Some people just don’t understand that.
