    I'm glad to see that there still are people out there that will just state it as it is. Yep there is a lot of rebranding but it boils down to who is providing the service most of the time.

    Exactly you buy it for the service. Who cares if it's a rebrand. If the dealer is awesome then that is where I am spending all my money for the most part.

    Fisher Space Pens were an over-engineered solution to a problem the Soviets handled with a simple pencil. But the pencil created its own set of problems - tiny bits of graphite dust floating and interfering with the electronics on the spacecraft. Pressurized ink cartridges eliminated that.
    Sometimes, over-engineering works.

      @KoonTrucking  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      He would make a fantastic dealer for any brand including his own no doubt. Michael took a route that completely and totally hated Matco tools from the previous dealer and turned it around just because he worked hard and treated people right. There’s no doubt that young man and his wife would excel in whatever name was on the side of that truck. After all smart customers by “the man” and not “the brand”

      @@KoonTrucking amen to that. The person selling the tool makes or breaks the deal. My cornwell dealer is our version of Michael. He spent two weeks arguing with a company on a warranty claim for me that the company wanted to decline. Now I dont know if he convinced them to cover it or if the still refused and he just ate the cost to take care of his customer. Above and beyond customer service is were I will tend to spend my money.

    I'll say when I got my matco ratchet from school with a flex head I hated it it was so hard to change I needed pliers but it was the right length for enough jobs I sucked it up slowly I started to like it and about 2 years after I got it I can move it with a flick of the thumb and I really like it it's my go to 3/8 ratchet now

It never hurts to ask if something is on sale or to price match if there is a new tool out and you tell your truck guy about it they may not know about it till everybody starts asking for it. that is one of the great things about your videos you try to show the new tools and we can go from there.🔧🔧🔧🔧

    Love me some koken tools, the little mini dude, the 3/8 in the 1/4 is so slick, I also agree with the flex head thing, I have two snap on ratchets, a 3/8 about 12 inch long and a 1/2 thats like 18 or so and I love them but every time you put the snip on them they want to move around on you or you are going into some hole trying to get it on a bolt and it flips around or goes wherever

    I bought one of the blue handle locking flex head’s from Michael at the meet-up in 2021, and the locking mechanism was a little notchy. My son got me a locking Mac for my birthday, I have to say I like the Mac locking mechanism a little better. The Matco is butter smooth and works very well. I don’t have a locking Snappy, yet….

    • @LynxStarAuto
      @LynxStarAuto 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the 20+ years I have been doing this, Matco rachets (to me) are the worst of the bunch. Too much flex to them, they tend to push comfort handles as popular choice, and the anvils wear in too quickly.
      I have a couple, and just use them as emergency tools. I've always preferred Snap On rachets. Especially their 1/2 line.

    Many years ago, MATCO was a subsidiary of Mac Tools. MATCO stood for Mac Allied Tools. I was a Mac Tool distributor and sold both brands. They eventually split. Maybe 1980? Both were excellent tools.

    My Matco guy is great like Michael. He's honest, straight shooter. He chose to sell Milwaukee cordless on his truck. He's a little higher than Home Depot, and he explained why. He gives the best price he can. Like beating a dead horse....the tools are only as good as the person selling them. Our SnapOn dealer for our area is notoriously bad. There 2 trucks that our in our area and Matco is the only 1 that has come, and probably ever will. Our guy Josh is great.

    I good tool is a good tool no matter the brand I have Mac ,snapon , and Matco and they all do the job . If you have time to worry about who uses what brand and this brand vs that brand they you must not be a good tech . Good tech don’t have time to worry about tool brand vs tool brand . It’s all about the tool dealer and Clay does a great job promoting that !

    I'm primarily a Matco guy but like most that turn wrenches I have almost every brand. Anyone that says one brand doesn't sell rebranded tools is dead wrong. Knipex and Lisle are two of the biggest brands rebranded by ALL tool companies. I was a huge fan of Snap-on for chrome sockets and wrenches but in the last few years the quality has spiraled down hill while prices have kept increasing. I've got Cornwell Blue Power chrome sockets I trust more than a Snap-on socket these days. Tool trucks are a convenience for techs and mechanics and are just people trying to do a job and run a business that supports their family.

  • @ecleveland1
    @ecleveland1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I've heard Michael say numerous times he reads the comments. Michael, it would be great if you offered other brands of high quality professional tools along with the great Matco tools. One thing I know for sure is people like choices! As long as it does not violate any franchise agreements I would have that truck loaded to the axels with exceptional high quality professional tools and be the only tool truck in your area that offered that many tool brands and that vast of an array of tools. When someone ask for something the word "NO" would never come out of my mouth. I would always say "I'd be happy to get that for you!" A great deal of American techs and mechanics only think of Snap-On, Matco, Mac, Cornwell as their choices of high quality professional tools. There are tons of professional tools brands around the world with great reputation and customer service. And you could be THE tool dealer to provide those tools to your customers.

    I'll never buy matco tools again!!! It's not that the tools are bad or rebranded it's because I can't keep a dealer!! I've called corporate and eventually got a rep to come out well once. I showed him everything I needed warranted and he said he was going to order it in for me. That's been 2.5 months ago. I call and no response. I know I can get corporate to replace items but who wants to go through the trouble?

    Depending on the tool dealer they all rebrand stuff and have done so for decades. But here recently depending on what you want I have seen some of the Lisle and other tools at different auto parts stores. But how often are you gonna go back to the store for a replacement when your tool dealer may have it or is willing to warranty it. A lot of stuff the manufacturer wants to see what happened to there product before any decision is made for said warranty. But if it's there brand and you bought it from them then no problem. And like another comment they won't take stuff bought from Amazon, ebay or a pawn shop. I have been told to send it directly to the manufacturer. You do have to wait a little longer for your tool. But is it worthwhile in the long run? The tool truck's are expensive, but as the saying goes, you do get what you pay for.

    I don't get all the hate on tool trucks re-branding tools... the select a great tool, put there name on it and stand behind it, put it on a truck and bring it right to the shop, come to the shop weekly to service it if needed. That is worth some value. I could guess at what amazon tools are worth the money and are actually good tools, but when Matco puts their name on it I know they have done the research and testing and if they are re-branding it I have the confidence it is a quality useful.

    • @Tombomb1816
      @Tombomb1816 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not so much the rebranding it's the insane markups they put on it. Some are marked up 200-300% if the markup was 15-20% that's understandable. When the tool guy gets a broken tool he is filing a claim and getting reimbursed or a replacement from the manufacturer.

If I grab a flex head ratchet to get it in a space where I need it to move I don’t need it to lock and when iam pulling on the ratchet it has never moved out of position. If it moves on you it’s your fault. You made it move. To me your messing around with a button you don’t need.

    Getting the right tools.... Matco doesn't even make their own tools they're a tool re brander all their stuff is lisle Irwin gear wrench etc.... So getting the right tools... Matco charges basically double what you can get the real tool for that's why there's been about 5 matco guys out of business in my area they don't make their own tools they just put their name on other companies products and upcharge I know you know this as well 🤷

      That’s no secret we have covered this on these videos. They make toolboxes but they also provide service and financing. They do offer exclusive tools you can’t get from the OEM manufacture and also like the ratchets are only sold through Matco.

    I am one of the Matco rebrand hater guys... I love Matco ratchets but 90% of matco is waaaayyy overpriced rebranded taiwan stuff. I understand the mark up because of the service but to me it's not worth 4-5x of the price of the original brand, hell matco driveline wobble socket set is 100% rebranded sunex at 6x the price!!!! Better off buying the sunex and if you break one just buy another socket... or entire set 6 times!! That is why I will never be a Matco guy besides the ratchets. Tool truck I go Snap on, anything else I go internet, I'm not that guy that bitches on tool trucks about the internet tool prices but Matco is out of their minds on all there rebranded over priced stuff. Snap on can at least warrant the high prices on all USA stuff because cost of US labor and materials.
    I deeply miss Hamilton... Such great vids with info, great tools and a great comedic guy. Snap on Fridays are very missed.
    Heres a quick Matco tale.. Guy at work had 4 bad drawer slides on his matco box, matco guy wouldn't warranty them, tech had to pay for them all, every slide said made in taiwan on it, they felt like junk... I had 1 bad drawer slide on my Snap on box, snappy guy gave no charge and changed it for me!!!!!!!! Long live Snap on!!!!!!!

      I agree but just to clear the air not all of snap on is 100% usa made tools just so you know and they also rebrand a good bit of the tools even if it is labeled “Snap On”. I can think of about 20 right now off the top of my head and not even try.

    Matco is the worst tool truck to be driving today.... the only thing that matco makes are boxes.... mostly gearwrench and vim with matco stamped on it....while hard working techs hand over half their paycheck every week to help the tool truck guy pay his mortgage... pay three to four time's for tools made in Taiwan ..... what a joke 😂

    If my matco dealer came more than twice in 3 months , I'd have a box full of matco
