Tell the guy in the future when he gets tools in those hollow plastic trays to flip them over and fill them with spray foam. Be sure to overfill them a little bit then take a hacksaw blade after it cures and cut it down flush. The trays will last that way.
Every time I let someone borrow a tool they do so under the understanding that the tool comes back the same way it left or it comes back new at their expense.
😂 I use my 60 a lot out of just how “easy” it makes moving pumps and stuff. One of those “once you have it you use it’s lol” but you said needed so that bridge ain’t been crossed yet 🤔
When I moved shops and didn’t have a snap on dealer I would meet my dealer at one of his stops every Friday and kept buying tools and paying him up. Was worth the 30 minute drive.
I know this is a little late but I'm going through watching some videos I missed! I'm in the same boat, no longer work at a snap on stop and luckily my snap on dealer is cool and comes to town thursdays.. so I meet him at one of his stops and buy stuff from him! Love snap on and matco!!
Great subject guys. Before I became an industrial mechanic I was a sub contracted master carpenter. I accumulated about $60,000 in construction tools. I purchased a construction type insurance policy for my work van that would also cover all my tools, even recorded a video of all my tools for the insurance. I would park in the back of my corner condo unit and unload my truck every night into my attached & alarmed 2 car garage . I was building entire custom homes at the time & needed just about everything. One Friday night It was so late I left everything in the truck since the extra parking spaces were right behind the building while the garages are in the front of our building I was to lazy to go back and forth .I thought it would be fine. I checked on it from my living room balcony that faced the back before turning in. The next morning I didn’t even think about it but while cleaning my Harley a neighbor asked “man you just bought that new van and it broke down already” ? Turns out he saw a black flatbed tow truck loading my van at about 4am . I ran to the back and sure enough it was gone. Obviously some one was watching me & waiting for the perfect chance. The worst part is my insurance policy was written up so that my tools would only be covered when & if my van was being used for work . They said that because I had parked it at home for the weekend I was technically not working when the tools were stolen. They covered the van which pretty much went to the loan company. I was left with nothing and just couldn’t see myself starting over again. So like you guys joked around about switching careers I was actually in that situation and did switch careers.
Hey Clay thank you for asking Matco Michael on my behalf, and for featuring my set up! If anyone out there has that black plastic tray for the 10 piece ratchet flex wrench set, and u wants to sell it, I’ll be more then happy to buy it from ya. Just shoot Me a message.
Matco day has become my favorite day, I used to not think much of matco but ever since I started watching these videos, matco is probably my favorite truck brand, but as you say it all comes down to the dealer and if they're a dickhead then it definitely changes things
There was a shop here in Indy that burned down and all but two tech quit. The two that stayed and worked in the lot got brand new tool box’s and tools for free from any tool dealer
Man, Michael is such an upstanding guy to take care of his costumers the way he does. You can tell he came from the other side (tradesmen) and understands what the shop guys have to deal with day in and day out. You definitely have some of the best tool truck folks in the business with Michael, Hamalton, and Joe. Keep the great videos coming Clay.
The biggest pry bar I have is the 44 inch Mac and I love that thing and I work on small cars but it's funny how a lot of the heavy duty truck guys use a 1/4 ratchet all day long
I seen body shops with them things. They pry them doors open with them. Seen one where they lifted a car. That had no rim on it. So they had to pry it up. To get a floor jack under it. Just one of them tools you think I don't need. Till you need it.
I worked that they stole all tools box in shop one night. It was a real BAD morning that day.... You find out how good your insurance or if you got it. They put all tools in shop and loaded in custom box truck and stole the truck with all tools in it.
I have just started watching this channel a couple weeks ago and I got to say you have some good dealers. Matco mike buddy you are awesome. Matco needs to make you vp of customer relations.
Damn that is a hell of a dealer right there. I would have no worries buying from him. That is the kind of dealer you make sure to take care of as he is a up standing guy to take care of fire damaged tools. He could of just said your out of luck justifiably
When he was talking about people stealing off the truck, I just kept looking at that pry bar and imagining some one shoving one of those down their pants and trying to walk out straight legged 🤣🤣🤣
Hey mr clay can you do a video on tool insurance because this video really got my gears turning about a possibility of that situation happening because you never know
Y'all need to reach out to Ur Homeowners / tenant insurance agent. I know mine asked me about mine and I just Hobby now. You'd be surprised how much is actually covered if you just have a sit down with them instead of just paying and not knowing whats what. Do Not wait until ..... Just my .02.
Regarding the shop burning down... Years ago, I asked my insurance agent. Homeowners and renters insurance do not cover your tools when they are not at home. I was responsible for getting a separate insurance policy and it was not cheap. You may want to discuss how to mark tools for theft recovery in a way that does not impact their value. Thanks.
I use to have insurance on my tools but suddenly the insurance company stopped selling it and didn't tell me. When I found out I was not happy. Also most of the shops I've been in guy's will store that big old prybar on top of their box next to their 20lbs sledge. They also cut down a truck bed mat to eliminate damage.
my matco guy ordered that same prybar for someone that wanted the longest one he get and when he got it in the guy said it was to long and went with the second longest one matco makes
Awesome video! Almost 30 minutes of tool talk. You really can't beat a child beer and watching your videos. Keep it up man!! I recommend 30 minutes every video haha!
I know my Mac dealer (whom I have done a ton of business with. My box and everything) had a pretty bad 2020 along with everyone else. His whole truck caught fire and burned to the ground. He salvaged what he could and was operating out of a Penske truck with some white fold up tables until the insurance forked over the money. But all the hand tools he was able to salvage he had a "fire sale." Basically you pay him at cost (not the sale price. Just the price it cost him to buy that tool) in a one time payment and he would ensure it would get warrantied if it ever failed. So I got several wrench sets, one of those point and shoot thermometers, and a few other things. They are burned to a crisp but still work! And basically I just have his word that he'll warranty them when they eventually do break.
I loan just about everything. My truck, fishing gear, lawn mower, my wife (for domestic chores only).... but my tools, ain't happening. Shows Michael's solid character to help him out!
When I worked at a Honda dealership I used a 5 foot pry bar to hold control arms down while I line up the struts. Instead of asking some one to hold the pry bar for me I would just put my weight on it. I work at a diesel shop now and rarely use it haha
Take pictures and have an itemized list for Shop insurance/home owners/tool insurance to cover losses. My friend had some of his work tools at home and the garage got robbed. His homeowners only covered a tiny fraction of the loss.
Yeap that’s correct it’s like jewerely if you have a 1 million dollar ring you would need a addendum attached to your homeowners that covers that ring cause the average homeowner does not have that much in jewelry my tools are covered separate cause they are worth over 200000$
Those big pry bars a really handy for prying off tires/rims that are BADLY seized to the hub. We have a three foot one that sometimes we have to really put down a workout. This is on light duty trucks, SUVs, and cars. I’m sure there’s other scenarios where it would be handy too though.
I was looking to replace the case for my silver eagle 1/4 and 3/8 set. Customer service said since there isn't a part # on it it's not able to be purchased separately. Too bad because it was an awesome little set to carry on ATV and Snowmobile adventures.
I got my 84” epic today clay with power drawer an rihno top with drawer light. It has the speed drawer but not sure if I want to use it for what it’s intended for or not. It’s cranberry red with black trim it sexy😜😜
Was curious if next week you can show those magnetic screw holder that goes on the screwdriver I don't have a matco dealer and was wondering about them
Hello again Clay This has nothing to do with the current subject. But thank you for introducing me to the Tub of Towels. What a difference in cleaning my tools. The subject of Tool Insurance is very important. Could you do a video on this. Again thank you for the Great Videos.
Most shop insurance only covers up to 25k of a techs tools. You can buy your own insurance like I did, but I update my tool list every 3 months. Also matco tool prices seams to go up every year on tools, so this is reflected in my insurance.
It would make a lot of sense if Matco would sell those trays... I am sure they're cheap to make and you can put a pretty good margin on them and turn a profit.... people are always looking for those Snap-on on and Matco trays...
We had a new guy start 1 time that we heard he had skipped on other dealers. Snap on shows up and he was gonna put about a $1000 worth of tools on the truck account. I pulled the dealer aside and told him what he had heard, so he let him buy some stuff, but only $200 or so. When he left, it took the dealer a few months to track him down through another dealer
I’m a just a rank amateur, but I have kept receipts for all the stuff I’ve bought over the last year and taken pictures of everything. Will make an insurance claim a little easier if stolen.
Insure your tools!!!! I’m a owner operator truck driver that does all my own work on my truck from brake jobs to rebuilding the engine and I just went through and insured all my tools this year (about 30 grand worth.) Our shop guy at the company I’m signed onto lost $60,000 in tools and toolboxes he had at home when his garage caught on fire. It was an absolutely devastating loss. His insurance company completely raped him and he got nothing for his loss. Make sure you call your insurance company and see what your garage is worth if it were to burn down and insure every tool separately if need be to make damn sure you get a check when you lose everything. It’s a lot of work but you will thank yourself, specially if you’re someone like me. Losing my tools would sink my business in a quick hurry. Take care guys.
I use the crap out of my 56" pry bar. If my 24" won't get it I jump right to the 56" haha. Mostly use mine for popping axles out on f350s and pulling down control arms because I don't have a "hockey stick" like SMA has.
i love these videos, thanks for making them.. i wish i had these people for my matco dealer.. good people!! hey, who decided to offset the eagle in the matco name? looks wrong! cheers guys and gals
I would just like to add this is where matco needs to get both the corporate and distributors on the same pages with warranty. I have had thing my dealer said he couldn't warranty but corporate had no issue. Like my compression tester that was bought back in 2002. One of the cords for my 1600 shop light that was less then 5 months old, push button remote starter switch. A ratchet they denied but once I sent it in it came back brand new. If those tools were sent in to corporate for a non dealer I would bet they would get replaced nqa. I know this as I have sent in burnt tools before.
My dad used to be a mechanic and thats definitely true about mechanics, he was a mechanic for close to 10 years and he couldn't find a good place to work and got so fed up he decided to become a bus driver lol
Most insurance companies will insure for fire, theft, and flood. A lot of times you need an inventory list and typically can take a picture of every drawer
Are you in the U.P. of Michigan or the Iron Range in Minnesota?! That's awful cold for late February. I'm in East Central Minnesota and I think we are done with sub-zero for the season here.
They have the new sealed electric ratchet pictured (not on promo yet) in the new flyer, flyer #5 for region 12, 16, and 20. 16v 1/4".....I heard the 16v tools suck. I have the 12v 1/4" impact and that thing is a beast. I also have the 20v 3/8" impact and that impact is great.
I'm gunna guess NO before video starts....Let's watch to find out.... Ok, not warranty yet mike is going to help a GOOD CUSTOMER. Let this be a lesson to us all...pay ur tool truck and be a good customer and I'm sure they will take care of you if things go bad. Love you Mike! Ur a freaking awesome Tool Truck Dealer PS. His buddy should pay for the tools.
I seen one Matco 1/2 drive flex head ratchet broken due to misuse and it was warrantied out.Cusomer used a forklift truck for extra leverage on it,Dealer I dealt with said he should of never warrantied it after being told this after giving the customer a new ratchet. Some insurance companies want an inventory before they cover tools.Auto Owners is the worst for insurance, they don't pay full retail for them. One guy I know had it with Snap On tools he had stolen,Auto Owners paid him half retail of the tools
I have the green long prybar like that i tell you what ive stuck that bar under a semi drive tire and disconnected the truck from an rgn trailer by myself to do a push start that sucker can move some stuff
You will get to see everything under the sun working at a petro for sure ! Not to mention every make and model and some super strange characters..... really strange.
@@KoonTrucking i know a couple of the mechanics at the one Im going to in portage, WI. Also I will get the training through the whole time. I did about 5 months at Skinner Transfer Corp, but petro offered me better everything. Come taxes I will be spending about 2k on tools I need to better my career.
Many automotive insurance companies offer a policy to cover tools. You can even buy renters insurance. Then just add the value of the tools to the total value...Most cost around $20.00 a month. If you have automotive insurance with them...
I have separate insurance on my Gun collection.... Keep your receipts and take pictures and store photos or copies of receipts in a separate location so you do not lose everything in one spot.
Yep when I left my job at ford dealership I called both my dealers and made card payment Arguments for my truck accounts that I had been paying cash on and my corporate account was already coming straight out of my bank account sucked trying to get stuff warranted till I found local dealers but all was cool with new dealers cause he called my old dealer and guys was getting paid so he vouched for me
Wow..... I've never asked my self that question D: i have my maximus 3, mxrdpro, infinium tools that can melt, xD im getting insulation for my tool box
I cover all my tools through a seperate policy i buy from my Farm Bureau agent...cost me about 800.00 a yr. With natuaral disaters and all kinda of other stuff that can happen.
Micheal did not make quota last week. Your homeowners insurance May cover pripeety away from home check with your agent, you may also be able to add coverage to your policy. I have extra coverage for my equipment in the garage because it exceeds the standard home contents value.
Agree Mt tool dealers all good guys. If they miss me or I miss them due things such as a vacation I always tell my dealers run payment each week No need to ask me Have good relationship with me dealers
Hello, I'm in school right now for auto tech, currently taking advantage of the discounts that Matco and Snap-on both offer to students. Looking at getting a digital Mulitmeter was looking for a recommendation, and maybe if yall could talk about the differences between Matco's multimeters sometime?
That should be covered under the persons insurance policy. However knowing me, I would probably used pb blaster and scuff pad then powder coat them tools.
If you need something to make a living and can’t afford to buy it all again if it’s gone then you need insurance. If you shop around you can get good rates.
Tell the guy in the future when he gets tools in those hollow plastic trays to flip them over and fill them with spray foam. Be sure to overfill them a little bit then take a hacksaw blade after it cures and cut it down flush. The trays will last that way.
Great idea. Such a simple solution, yet most of us probably never thought about that! I have some that are cracking, so not too late for those.
I had some that I recently tossed due to that. That’s a great idea!
Been doing that since 1996, works great!
My shop makes us inventory our tools on a regular basis and keeps that inventory in our employee file incase of fire or theft.
Every time I let someone borrow a tool they do so under the understanding that the tool comes back the same way it left or it comes back new at their expense.
Every tool I lent out either never came back or came back like it was left in a pig sty.
If I ever needed a pry bar that big... life took a turn and didn’t tell me, lol.
😂🤣😂🤣 I honestly LOL'ed

I wish I had your weather! Today we hit a low -33 as of 0951. Lol
Brr 🥶
Are you in the U.P. of Michigan or the Iron Range in Minnesota?! That's awful cold for late February. I'm in East Central Minnesota and I think we are done with sub-zero for the season here.
@@markiefufu i could wish. I am from lockport Manitoba Canada lol
Thats what I did, I just paid both dealers. I had 2 Mac guys 2 Matco and 2 Snap On reps. All at the same time. It sucked for a little haha
Love this Chanel
Fire reason is the reason why I have insurance on my tools a lot of places and you work at have a policy where you can buy into it
They have the new sealed electric ratchet pictured (not on promo yet) in the new flyer, flyer #5 for region 12, 16, and 20. 16v 1/4".....I heard the 16v tools suck.
Ur a freaking awesome Tool Truck Dealer
PS.
That’s rain is loud!! Hahaha
U are awesome
On March 10 I will start my new job at petro for a diesel mechanic
Nice
You will get to see everything under the sun working at a petro for sure ! Not to mention every make and model and some super strange characters..... really strange.
@@KoonTrucking i know a couple of the mechanics at the one Im going to in portage, WI. Also I will get the training through the whole time. I did about 5 months at Skinner Transfer Corp, but petro offered me better everything. Come taxes I will be spending about 2k on tools I need to better my career.
Congrats on the new job!
@@markiefufu thanks looking forward to progress and learning as much as I can and become what I want to be as a mechanic in the diesel trade.
I’m real close to pulling the trigger on my own Matco truck. Would love to talk to Michael about a few things
Contact him. He’s a cool guy for sure !
Matco Michael must have not sold enough this week
Many automotive insurance companies offer a policy to cover tools. You can even buy renters insurance. Then just add the value of the tools to the total value...Most cost around $20.00 a month. If you have automotive insurance with them...
I have separate insurance on my Gun collection.... Keep your receipts and take pictures and store photos or copies of receipts in a separate location so you do not lose everything in one spot.
Yep when I left my job at ford dealership I called both my dealers and made card payment Arguments for my truck accounts that I had been paying cash on and my corporate account was already coming straight out of my bank account sucked trying to get stuff warranted till I found local dealers but all was cool with new dealers cause he called my old dealer and guys was getting paid so he vouched for me
Tub-O towels might clean those tools up. 😯
Wow..... I've never asked my self that question D: i have my maximus 3, mxrdpro, infinium tools that can melt, xD im getting insulation for my tool box
Great video y'all have a great weekend and stay safe 👍
Question for Matco Michael (is the MATCO branded Chrome/Impact sockets) - made in the USA as in the Opti-Torque Pro sockets?
The ADV line of impact sockets are not but they offer a USA made line but just cost more m
@@KoonTrucking Thanks for replying I got Snapon/Mac but needing some 1/4 metric impact sockets (was looking the Matco branded ones)
I seen on Matco’s Facebook the TPMS tool is in blue...
Yep 👍🏻
I cover all my tools through a seperate policy i buy from my Farm Bureau agent...cost me about 800.00 a yr. With natuaral disaters and all kinda of other stuff that can happen.
My Matco dealer couldn't get me that lightweight jacket
That sucks
Same. My dealer put the part number in and said they were already discontinued.
Would a matco bench vise be warranty jus wondering I've had one that broke a long time ago but never had a chance to ask anyone about it
242.95 for that big ass prybar 58"PBO58C..👀
