Sexy Rex is my favorite in this one! I should have been more gentle with the voltage on the unicorn, I assumed that it could take way more than 7V since it was running on 6V original... 4 fully charged batteries would be like 6.8V, not much headroom in that circuit! Thank you for watching, all the revenue is currently reinvested in new toys and I hope I'll be able to buy more cool stuff to overvolt! Let me know if you have any suggestions.
Unicorn is cheap Chinese trash circuit obviously as other toys seem to take at least double their rated voltage. I am surprised that some even take up to 10v when TTL logic is rated at most to 7v which is where most of the sound chips pop.
I love it when Dora and Sexy Rex's voices get higher from every voltage instead of getting louder or the electronics that are controlling them completely die. 😂
The reason why the toys get higher pitch when high voltage is because of the processer being poked by electricity, kinda like a circuit bend. And the reason why the toys' sound gets cut off is either because the soundboard connected to the speaker shut off to avoid the chances of overheating, or the processor of the soundboard broke.
Fun fact: In the Peppa Pig episode "Pen Pals", Mommy Pig tells her to speak French while she is on the phone. But the French dub has it fliped. So Peppa is told to speak English, instead of French.
Funny how there are always two pops on the variac. The first is probably the electrolytic on the sound board and the second is probably the motor run capacitor. I always like looking for the high current as the sound chip gets roasted and in some toys the music plays faster as the timing circuitry gets overheated.
There used to be several of those musical hamsters at at one time, singing various pop songs in squeaky voices. One was a martial arts hamster twirling a nunchuka and singing "Kung Fu Fighting."
I'm British. I don't know how widespread Gemmy hamsters were in the UK, but there were musical hamsters for sale here at one time. My mum has a Gemmy Billy Bass.
Nothing has beaten the high score of the money box cat so far which broke at 60 V But the horse is close with 57V. Maybe do a Leeder board to compare which toy survived the longest
So, maybe if you put (non-rechargeable) Lithium batteries into it (which nobody does), since these have about 1,8V when full, it gets about 7,2V and it's circuit won't last long. So it's non-idiot-proof
Finally someone did Dora, I wanna see super special friend Kai lan get applied to high voltage next can you do that please, also the Dora is called, we did it dancing Dora, and it’s from 2002
Well, it's a big old transformer with a handle that you can rotate. Not much to see and would take up a lot of space on the table, but I can show it in the next video.

No edit, that would make the mechanical sound higher as well...(at least with my editing skills 😅). This uses a clock circuit that easily gets messed up
the sound is stored on a chip, and when the toy is playing that sound it's processing the signals at a certain frequency. If you increase the speed, the audio will play faster with higher pitch. This "clock" can be configured in a few different ways and some are easily manipulated with for example low/high voltage and others are playing at a fixed speed until it cuts off or dies. Most newer toys just dies
@@Cskirt 1. So newer electronic and motorized toys with speakers for audios have their electronics in them and their speakers die off? 2. I just want to know if older toys have some sort of clock-circuit related thingies in them that cause their voices to raise pitches up and make the toys go a bit more crazier.
Really? Of course it's somewhat rare since it's not made anymore. But the hamsters seemed fairly common from what I could see and it was very cheap (partially because it had a broken button). Trying to not upset everyone like with the Spanish earnie 😅, but gemmy made some interesting animatronics I'd like to try :)

Fun fact: Dora teaches English rather than Spanish in just about every non English dub of the show
it's a smart fact
Very true. I watched Dora in the Chinese dub when I was little and they teach English, not Spanish.
I'm from Venezuela, and some of my English was because of Dora the Explorer and Go Diego Go.
