Yeah I pretty much agree. A story we didn't need to see and was clearly not the best planned out. It's even more dumb when you consider we've seen his race in live action before (episode 3) and it didn't look like this. Reva was ok but I admit she got kind of annoying at times and perhaps could have had her story told in a different place than this show. And on the note of you saying she looked like a normal person compared to other inquisitors, I think that's because they didn't give her a cool hat/helmet. Pretty much every other inquisitor that has appeared in shows and games has had a cool helmet that makes them look more intimidating. Not sure what happened with that. The ball was definitely dropped when it comes to certain designs. A lot of awkward action scenes too, which was disappointing to see, mostly the chase scenes. Reminded me of the often mocked speeder chase scene from Book of Boba Fett. Overall I thought it was ok but had some moments that were pretty cool. It's disappointing to me that the best thing to come out of these disney + shows is still Mandalorian season 1. Everything else has had some hints of mishandling or disappointment. Not to mention, they did say the show was darker in tone and they had the writers re-do it...my biggest question after watching it...what was in the original script that made this one less so? I saw the fan edit version 2.5 hr one, and it takes out so much clutter.
The series should have been about the Grand inquisitor finding Oni Wan on Tatooine and Obi-wan having to leave to draw the empire and Vader away. Could have been a cat and mouse series where Kenobi has to keep jumping from world to world to keep Vader off his scent. Along the way, Kenobi finds out that a rebellion has been formed and must stop the inquisitors from finding the Rebel's home base.
So the show was basically going to be a movie. But after Solo bombed Disney cancelled doing any character movies. The writer of the movie script has come out in interviews and explained some of the changes they made from his script to the show. And the way he described how he wrote Reva, she sounded so much better of a character than what we got in the show. She felt completely pointless in the show, her motives made no sense.
Glad Hayden got a warm reception for coming back but certain things just don’t add up. A few nice moments but this didn’t need to be made. Rogue One did a better job filling in gaps while being entertaining.
Rogue One was a dull mess, IMO. It was the "best" of the Disney SW movies. But that isn't really saying much. I had no reason to really remember, much less care about any of the characters, except for the blind monk. The story was all over the place. Stuff like this is why I don't even watch that crap in the first place. When Disney bought Star Wars, I kinda saw the beginning of the end in The Force Awakens, then stopped following it after The Last Jedi. Really, that was just 152 minutes of basically just a fractured, ragtag bunch of rebels wasting their time and resources trying to escape some big-ass fleet AND dealing with a change in command just because somebody got pissy (while the little boy who got sent to the corner sends two people on a secret mission just to trash said enemy fleet AND flip the finger on said command) while Mary Sue gets a crash course learning the Force from some bitter has-been AND basically setting herself and some teenager on steroids up for plot armor. I will never take anything Disney has made as cannon seeing as nothing they’ve done has made any sense. I mean, if you watch “A New Hope” you know that Leia and Obi Wan have never met before. The message she leaves for Obi Wan with R2 clearly starts with, “General Kenobi. Years ago you served my father in the clone wars.” That alone tells me they’ve never met and Leia’s only heard stories of him.
The George Lucas version of Star Wars didn't make any sense to begin with. That's the real issue that nobody wants to admit. Disney is putrid, but that doesn't change the reality that Lucas kept making contradictory stuff up as he went. The OT implied that Obi Wan didn't even know about Leia's true identity until Yoda told him, but then Lucas completely contradicted that in the PT. So not only did Vader not know he was torturing his own daughter, but Obi Wan somehow also never had a clue even though the PT clearly shows he's one of the 3 people that knew exactly who Leia Organa was from the start. The Lucas saga fell completely apart the instant he contrived to turn Vader and Anakin into the same character when they 100% weren't in the first movie. The story that Obi Wan told to Luke was completely true, but then Lucas changed the story. He transformed Ben into a psychotic liar by the end of the saga.
@@sidewinderl ......Anakin was Vader from the very beginning. He conceived the core elements of the Prequel films' story BEFORE he came up with the ideas that became Eps. 4-6. That is well documented. He made Ep. 4 first, because he felt it was a simpler story, and with the tech they had back then (and him still being a fairly unknown director), he didn't feel like he could physically make Ep. 1 in the 1970s. And honestly, classic Star Wars makes tons of sense. There is nothing in the OG trilogy to imply that Obi-Wan didn't know who Leia was. He kept things very close to the vest.
@@Retrorevelations No he wasn't. Point to this magical original documentation that said he was always going to be Vader. Doesn't exist. The only things well-documented are all the retcons and excuses. If he was always supposed to be Vader, then it only makes things worse, because you're saying that Obi Wan was intentionally a psychotic liar from the start. Obi said outright "that boy is our last hope", and Yoda corrected him. Obi didn't know about Leia until Yoda revealed it. That was the obvious implication of that exchange. Any claim to the contrary is pure spin. Like I said, people simply don't want to admit the truth. Star Wars was never built on a solid foundation, and Lucas keeping a few ideas in his pocket from an ever evolving story doesn't magically change that fact.
I'm just tired of the fan service. There was no need for this series. Plus, why didn't Obi-wan start start training Lil Leia in the ways of the force? Makes no sense.
Make sure to check out the fan edit of the show from Kai Patterson. He edited it down into a two and a half hour movie. Obviously, it's still a far from perfect show...but the edit definitely improves it a lot.
I watched Strangers Things Season 4 last weekend and experienced a series that has a heart and soul! Good storytelling, really well developed characters and amazing special effects and overall an unique atmosphere that captivates me and most important of all I was emotional engaged all the time! All of that I can not find in these new Star Wars Series from Disney! They are mass producing Star Wars stuff and it left me cold most of the time (with exceptions of Lukes moment in the Mandalorian and some good moments in that new series + Rogue One). But to watch these series only for a handfull of true Star Wars moments is not enough. I expect more from this once fantastic franchise! Overall I must say that I am really disappointed what Disney is doing with Star Wars. Again it is by far not enough!
That's why I'm glad that I'm glad that the director from Thor love and thunder is going to do a Star wars movie and focus on something else instead of being on tatooine all the time.
Reva should have never been in the show, and it should have been about Vader leading the inquisitors and personally hunting Jedi and being obsessed with finding Kenobi. If the rumors of Reva getting her own series are true, than that means she was just shoehorned in there to introduce her to the fans before her solo debut. Also, I agree they should have set the show only 2 or 3 years after Revenge of the Sith...but seems like they went with 10 years so they could have Reva be part of the story (and Leia).
Damn it saddens me hearing this news, another Disney Star Wars project being mediocre, I remember the days when something said Star Wars it was worth watching or reading. The stuff you guys came up with and usually always come up with in your Star Wars videos is stuff EVERYONE that grew up pre-Disney WANTS. I'm a Star Wars fan 4 lyfe but it's hard nowadays saying I'm a current Star Wars fan when I'm so removed ever since Last Jedi, that one rubbed me the wrong way and I've never been able to go back to anything Disney Star Wars. It's sad, that Vader backstory would of been great
I thought they made Obi-Wan a little too powerful during their 2nd fight. I also would have preferred that Obi-Wan and Vader did not meet at all but have some near misses. I do not like Disney re-writing a bunch of stuff that does not make sense. I mean to me Boba Fett died in Return of the Jedi so that is where I stand.
'The Last Jedi' had me questioning my Star Wars interest. Then the 'Rise of Skywalker' told me that it was time to move on. Sadly I haven't watched any of the shows that came after that movie (Mando, Obi-Wan, Boba Fett). I'm done with Star Wars.
Mando is quite good and not very starwarsfocused.. if you like a decent scifi show you can watch it without caring about starwars.. other then that yeah totally agree.. didnt even bother watching obi-wan or boba fett :P
Agree with most of it for sure. I also felt that it was a wasted opportunity, just like episodes 7-9, not as bad though. But still, it feels like I would have seen something else with these original actors, can't say what exactly, but hey, that's not my job. ;)
i agree with all of their points and criticisms, and also found several plotholes that dwarf texas, but obi wan wasnt using the force mainly as a way to hide from vader, i think, as vader would have felt the force if obi wan was using it for all those years on tatooine.
The "Rey Trilogy" is 1 billion % not worthy of even trying to figure out how it could be canon. It just isn't. It's billion dollar fan fiction, and that's that. These shows, while not great, at least you could TRY to figure out how some of it fits. Though I still dislike the idea of Vader and Obi fighting pre-ANH, so I'll just disregard it anyway.
1. It had its moments, it was nice to see Ewan again. It was nice to see Hayden again, even though them trying to pass off 40 y/o Anakin as 19 y/o Anakin was hilarious. And this is coming from a fan of the Prequels. 2. The central antagonist was incredibly meh. I didn't care about her story, her acting wasn't very good, and she didn't really act how I'd imagine an Inquisitor to act (IE a fanatical, wannabe Sith). 3. Little Leia was fine, even though she acted a bit TOO wordy/mature for a 10 year old. But the show focused too much on her. We barely got any Little Luke. Barely got any Owen and Beru, which I was there for. 4. This basically just doesn't need to be considered "canon". Vader and Obi-Wan didn't see each other for 20 years, until the Death Star. Them having mega-battles in between, especially where Vader gets his ass kicked, just really doesn't make sense. Especially because Obi-Wan is not on that "Super Sayan" level, like a Yoda or Anakin, to just start smashing mini-mountains and throwing them at people. I dunno. I didn't hate it. But it's definitely not what it could have been.
It's pretty horrible when people have their own feelings and thoughts on things, eh? It would be far better if all fans of things just acted like the trained clapping seals Hollywood wants them to be, and just act like they adore every new sequel/remake/reboot of any old beloved IP that gets regurgitated next. They have trained an entire generation+ to gleefully accept and applaud each new "revival" and cash-in installment, no matter what the actual quality of said content is.
@@Retrorevelations People can like and dislike whatever the hell they want. I don't like everything new that comes out, but I don't automatically hate everything either. It's just tiring to hear these guys say that everything is crap all the time. It sounds really exhausting to hate so much content from something that you claim to love. All I said was they would be happier if they just assume all the new Star Wars stuff is shit and not watch it. Just rewatch the Original Trilogy instead every time a new Star Wars comes out.
Wasn't that great? I thought it was straight bad. Filling in story gaps instead of telling new stories is always tricky and almost never works. I'm supposed to believe Obi went on this grand adventure now rather than just lived as a hermit for 30+ years? Bad acting, bad writing, the wrong story. I have nothing positive to say about it other than Uncle Owen being the only one that seemed to care.
I've only watched the first two episodes and hated it overall. I'll get around to watching the rest eventually, but I'm in no hurry. Billy's theming of echoing Luke's attempts later for turning Vader back to the Light side is actually really good. It's good story telling - not giving a backstory to Luke's T-16 Skyhopper model.
I agree, there are quite a few contradictions and weird choices, but overall, I enjoyed it. I haven't been able to get into Boba Fett or The Mandalorian because I just don't care for that side of the series, but put Obi Wan in anything and I'm in! I was also hoping for Darth Maul like Melvor, the story is too good not to be live action!
I’ll say it again. Darth Vader had no remorse for anyone or anything. His goal was to destroy everything. Not even Jedi but anyone who was against him.
I didn't like the inclusion of Leia. Only for the fact that in a new hope she specifically says in the hologram my father knew you during the clone wars. And if you would have gone by just ben the entire series that would have been fine however he was called Obi-Wan by numerous people in front of her. And if her father told her about Obi-Wan then he would have said something about Luke. Like why would you keep a secret of a brother but tell her about these people that are magic that are being hunted by the empire.

@@sidewinderl If you say so bud. Glad Star Wars experts like you exist to keep the rest of us in line.
Dude runs through people like candy.
Honestly that’s what I love about VADER. He doesn’t give a fuck.
Wish this star wars and marvel stuff could be rated r
I want to forget this series ever existed. It's really that bad...
I thinks it's weird, with this one we got the blend of old and new star wars.
In the bottom 1/4 of the thumbnail, the text is partially covered by the time in the right corner.
I'm going to assume Melvor didn't put this together, otherwise we'd be watching it in 2024....
you wrote the numbers in reverse
@@TheGameChasers Hahahaha
rly curious of these guys' take
I'm just tired of the fan service. There was no need for this series. Plus, why didn't Obi-wan start start training Lil Leia in the ways of the force? Makes no sense.
All the franchises you once loved from your youth are now co opted to promote lefty woke crap.
Naw Vader could have kicked Obi circle wands ass man!
Enjoyed this video and your take on it guys! I enjoyed the show for the most part though
Yes this just made my day thanks Billy
Animation is not a lesser form of video media, in fact it is superior, you have the freedom to make look exactly like your vision.
It was decent
anything with Melvor is a good thing. good review also.
"It's Vader!"
"Everything woke turns to shit".
you guy's should talk movies and shows more often
I really liked it Obi Wan tbh
Make sure to check out the fan edit of the show from Kai Patterson. He edited it down into a two and a half hour movie. Obviously, it's still a far from perfect show...but the edit definitely improves it a lot.
It was OK. That's the best thing I can say about it. It was OK.
Really like the conversation. The show was an incredible waste :-(
I watched Strangers Things Season 4 last weekend and experienced a series that has a heart and soul!
Agreed. Lucasfilm needs to hire the Duffer brothers after they're done with Stranger Things.
That's why I'm glad that I'm glad that the director from Thor love and thunder is going to do a Star wars movie and focus on something else instead of being on tatooine all the time.
Disney: Errors, may the forced be with you
Reva should have never been in the show, and it should have been about Vader leading the inquisitors and personally hunting Jedi and being obsessed with finding Kenobi.
It's sad, that Vader backstory would of been great
👍
But still, it feels like I would have seen something else with these original actors, can't say what exactly, but hey, that's not my job. ;)
Yeah, there were some really nice moments, but overall it rang a little hollow for me.
I thought it was a total waste of potential, should have been a short but good 3-4 episodes I think
And who rocks laces? It’s all about Velcro man.
i agree with all of their points and criticisms, and also found several plotholes that dwarf texas, but obi wan wasnt using the force mainly as a way to hide from vader, i think, as vader would have felt the force if obi wan was using it for all those years on tatooine.
For real. Billy wore braids
I was entertained and that's all that I ask for...canon doesn't mean sh*t to me anymore since the Rey trilogy.
I mean, that's fair
Good Lord. Just stop watching any new Star Wars. You'll be happier.
They should do a Vader series instead of Kenobi season 2
The good outweighs the bad but the bad is still infuriating.
Billy animate again! Do what you love my man
Wasn't that great? I thought it was straight bad. Filling in story gaps instead of telling new stories is always tricky and almost never works. I'm supposed to believe Obi went on this grand adventure now rather than just lived as a hermit for 30+ years? Bad acting, bad writing, the wrong story. I have nothing positive to say about it other than Uncle Owen being the only one that seemed to care.
Melvador
I like.
yeah he even called OBI his master in the fight on the last episode. So yeah. For sure DV NEVER fully gave in to the darkside.
Billy would make an epic o obi wan.
we all fans are right for reva
Hopefully when they eventually make Luke Skywalker series and a Darth Vader series they'll be better then Obi-Wan
I agree, there are quite a few contradictions and weird choices, but overall, I enjoyed it. I haven't been able to get into Boba Fett or The Mandalorian because I just don't care for that side of the series, but put Obi Wan in anything and I'm in! I was also hoping for Darth Maul like Melvor, the story is too good not to be live action!
i thought it was really good overall
Nothing will compare to what you did in your cartoons Billy. Nothing.
I AGREEEEE even PADME told OBI before she died "There is still good in him" This whole series should have been about OBI trying to get Anikan back.
Yup
i rather liked it
Billy, what’s up with that shirt????
What do you mean
they stuffed up two great characters.
Look back to the comics and original stories. Vader is ruthless.
I mean who the fife missed that
It's Vader!!
