    What pissed me off is the fact that we waited two years to see Luke and Rey. Two years! She climbs up the mountain. Scaling the terrain. We see Luke. He removes his hood as Rey hands him the lightsaber. This is amazing! What will he say to her? NOTHING!!! He tosses the fucking saber over the cliff and the audiences busts out laughing. Really?!?!? I waited two years for that bullshit?!?! So pissed right now.

      justinjedi007 Or in my case, Luke tosses the lightsaber but there is no laughter, everyone just looks confused.

    I think Luke was totally off character...he goes trough hell to save his father and turn him back to the light side of the force, but when he senses the dark in his nephew, his first thought is to execute him?

    I don't think Rian Johnson is a bad director, he's just bad for star wars and doesn't get it. He took everything that invested people in episode 7 and said nope fuck it and threw all that shit away. It felt like he just did that shit just to make it feel like this is HIS star wars movie. Now Abrams has to come clean up his mess. Rian Johnson is like the little brother who broke all the big brothers toys

    When you see a Star Wars film on opening night, in a packed theater, it's supposed to be an EVENT! People are usually cheering, laughing, having a good time and enjoying the ride. When the end credits rolled, there was minor applause, and people just kind of shuffled out the door, quietly talking to each other. That's when I knew that I wasn't the only one who was disappointed in this mess of a film.

    What bothered me was that they were subliminally attacking the fans for reading too much into Snoke, Rey's parents, Luke's experiences at the new jedi temple, etc. They basically said screw you and everything George built around the force. They burned it to the ground with delirious Yoda giggling in the background.
    EDIT: Actually what probably bothered me the most was that Finn and Rose didn't set those kids free on Canto Bight. :S

    One of my major gripes was the casino scene. It felt so unnecessary. The cruiser had 6 hours of fuel left, yet they had enough time to go mess around at the casino and blah blah blah. Instead of that side story, they should've used that screen time towards Rey receiving training.

    At this point, Episode 9 can only be about Rey getting to another 1-on-1 with Kylo where Kylo will either die or redeem himself. That's it -- boring.

    It’s been rumored there will be another trilogy after this one, that has zero to do with the skywalkers. Disney is just using Star Wars as a cash cow and will oversaturate this series within five years.

    • @digipimp75
      @digipimp75 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Totally agree. I hated the cranky old curmudgeon Luke that we have in this film. At first I figured that it was ok, since he went into exile after feeling responsible for Ben Solo's turn to the dark side. But after repeatedly telling Rey to "go away" and just not giving a shit, I thought it got old quick. And when we first see him, he throws the damn lightsaber over his shoulder and off of a cliff. The most cherished, iconic tool of a Jedi master... just thrown away like a piece of garbage. For what? A cheap laugh from the audience?? Ugh

      I've been thinking about everything lately and I think certain things in this movie should have been more explained I believe that luke found a way to go out like obi maybe when Darth killed obi he died same way I mean he disappeared just a thought maybe snoke was a puppet and not this big bad villain we've been waiting for and something bigger was controlling him as for Rey her parents probably were what were said possibly there adoptive and she was related to someone from a jedi who kept quite do I believe this is a bad movie no do I believe this a good movie eh just entertaining I do believe this will be a good sequel once we see the next

    Dislikes:
    - The entire casino sideplot - Waste of time
    - The mutiny could have been prevented if that lady just told Poe what her plan was
    - The stupid Marvel humor
    - Why did Luke tell Rey to leave him alone if he hid a map to his location?
    - The cliche and bad forced relationship between Finn and Rose - Her saving him sucked
    - Plot holes and things ignored from The Force Awakens
    - Leia floating through space
    Likes:
    - Yoda's return
    - Kylo Ren and Rey fighting all those guards (best part of the movie)
    - Luke kicking ass at the end
    - Adam Driver's performance in general was awesome

    Worst thing about the film in my opinion was the final shot.
    The last shot of just about every Star Wars film is iconic, memorable, and always swells with dramatic music.
    Last shot of this film was deflating, unrelated to everything that's come before, and utterly cornball.
    The movie would have been fifty percent better if Captain Phasma had infiltrated the Resistance as herself. The resistance doesn't know what she looks like underneath the mask, but the audience does and it would have been a great opportunity to do some interesting things. OH WELL.

    The Last Jedi is a movie about failure. It’s a movie about realizing you are not that good at something, that you believed, or were told, you are. It’s movie that makes you check your own your own ego. It’s a movie about realizing your own limitations and moving forward with the future and moving on from your mistakes.

    I left disappointed, and I didn't watch any promotional material. Lots of cool things in this movie, but it I didn't leave me wanting to see what happens next like the other Star Wars films did. I think I was just watching Star Wars for Luke, and everything about the Skywalkers. Now that Skywalkers don't matter in Star Wars I have lost the majority of my interest in it.

    21:10 The books weren't entirely meaningless. At the end when Finn grabs the blanket for Rose, you can see the books in the drawer, implying Rey steals the books before she leaves the island.
    But I think the people who are praising the movie didn't watch it as part of the Star Wars saga. They watched a movie, were entertained, and are never going to think about it again, not caring about the overall continuity. And that's how I'm going to go into a second viewing, not trying to nitpick but just to see if it's an entertaining movie.

  • @gianrivera2293

    I have a theory about "Leia Poppins" that nobody has mentioned yet.
    Kylo was going to shoot Leia inside the cockpit, but held himself back to spare her, but then some tie pilots shot instead. When she was freezing in space and was looking back at the ship, she didn't use the force, but it was Kylo saving her life instead, since he actually has the force to do it and didn't want his mom dead.

  • @robtg9672
    @robtg9672 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Also this movie was about setting the stage for the new era of heroes and villains. Rey will rebuild a new version of the Jedi Order just as Kylo will rebuild the Sith in a new way. Heck even though the Jedi books survived it wasn’t the failed hero Luke that destroyed them but the wisest Jedi we have yet to encounter, Yoda. Even though I think he knew the books were safe. Yoda built a weapon to defeat the Palpatine and Vader, not one to rebuild the order that he saw die. The old ways failed Luke at the academy and Snoke with his apprentice which is why the move was to the new generation. The old ways to fight the wars failed not the Resistance and the First Order some thing new will emerge which is symbolized by the young boy at the end and the joy the survivors on the Falcon had. Not a bad Star Wars movie a new type of Star Wars movie.

    Haven't seen the movie yet but I'm calling it..-Rey is related to Darth Sidious. Also, she speaks with the same kind of accent as Sidious. Luke talks about how "he's seen this kind of raw strength before, and it didn't scare him enough back then... but it does now." Snoke says: "When I found you I saw raw untamed power, and beyond that, something truly special". Also, isn't it a little bit ominous when Ray takes a hold of Kylo Ren's Sith light-sabre. -(It gave me chills to see that). Snoke: "Fulfill your destiny.." My theory is all based on the trailers Ive seen. Luke: "THIS IS NOT GOING TO GO THE WAY YOU THINK". -Very cryptic, don't you think??

  • @jtmurdock
    @jtmurdock 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Question: So when Fin grabbed the blanket for Rose, were those the books stored in the tree that Yoda burned down? Because that is the impression I got from it. That she took the books and now has them.
    As for the movie itself, it was an action movie that lasted 2 hours and 33 minutes. That's about all I can say about it without ranting and I really don't think it deserves and rant.

    All I could think of was why don't they aim a bunch of rebel ships at the imperial ships and jump into light speed. That will save a lot of lives..Please let me know if that's a good strategy

    I mean, this movie didn't need to do anything to move 1-6 forward, but, it doesn't even move forward what 7 tried to start. That's a major problem with this film.

    Both the Empire, and the Jedi sought to control. The Jedi claimed to want balance, but used their power in attempt to have the Light Side of the Force overpower the Dark Side. The Empire wanted to control EVERYTHING, and rule by using the Dark Side of the Force. The FORCE is a natural presence in the Universe that was never meant to be used as a "tool" (as Hydrazor put it) The Force is meant to just... BE. It is instinctively trying to BALANCE itself, while others try to use it to support their SIDE. Which is why the Force AWOKE inside of multiple people all over the Universe, it needs to be BALANCED. It is giving these individuals power in hope that it can finally be brought to balance. The Prequels showed the Empire come to power, and the Dark Side take control. The Original Trilogy showed the Resistance triumph, and the Light Side take control. NEITHER ended in BALANCE. This Trilogy is the Force finally coming to BALANCE, and ending the cycle of Good vs Evil. THAT is why Yoda attempted to burn the books. He knows that the old Jedi ways are WRONG, and for Balance to truly exist, they must leave their old beliefs in the past. THAT is why the Force has come to "Nobodies" like Rey. Because every time you have Legends like Luke, or Supreme Leaders like Snoke, SOMEONE will always try to win, and overtake the other for control, meaning Balance can never be achieved.

    We wait like 35 years to see how bad ass Luke has become and all we see is him crying around like he did in episode 4 . Projecting himself during the fight was cool but he is a Jedi master , he should have displayed some awesome powers . The Luke that we built up in our minds since we were kids was absent from this movie and then he just " poofs " away .

    I can understand a super-fan review like this and enjoyed what yall had to say. But as someone that's seen the original trilogy 1000 times and grew up with it, but never became a huge fan, this was a perfect nostalgia film. The way Luke passed on actually brought tears to my eyes just out of nostalgia of all the times I saw the originals. So on my end I'm happy with the "reboot" style and hope it ends here. Cheers guys!

    Not sure why so many hating it. Other than nitpicking it? Sure, it won't live up to my two favorite Star Wars (Episode IV and Empire Strikes Back). But there was some good parts to it. Some complain it was too funny compared to others! We were waiting to reveal who Rey is (Luke's Skywalker's daughter was a guess!) Christopher Lloyd once said: Sequels is much harder to do cause so many people want to go in different directions and other ideas. Nothing gets criticized or looked more low than sequels." Or words to that effect. Would anyone agree the highlight at the movie was the end when Luke came back to fight Kylo Ren with a different look that earlier in the movie? Some things were off the wall: Leia floating to a ship and the weird creatures on the Millineum Falcon with Chewie! Even the way Luke died was so strange (add your own adjective here!) I won't put this completely down, but I won't say it was among Top 25 movies ever saw Either!

    What i think of Anakin being the chosen one to bring balance to the force... The long haired guy said stuff about bringing the balance as he thinks the force is completely out of balance now, and i interpret it totally different:
    First off, what we know of the force we learned from jedi. In the first trilogy there were lots of jedi, lots of jedi training etc, but we didn't know of any person (besides anakin) who had help from the force (like the blind asian in rogue one). This tells me that the force is completely unbalanced in favor to light. every jedi is training their force skills in favor of light also. But then there's some profecy about a chosen one who will bring balance to the force. AND HE DID! Anakin brought back the balance leaving very few jedi and gaining the power the survivor jedi had, and he became darth vader. in the old trilogy yoda and obiwan are alive, and they are very powerful, and so are the emperor and vader balancing the power. In the new trilogy the emo guy vader wannabe trains super hard so he can stop a laser from a gun but he sees his ass kicked when he fights rei. why? because the force is nerfing the emo guy and boufing rei. the force at this point can balance itself, and it chose rei as a counterpart to the emo guy. this means that no matter how hard the emo guy trains, rei is going to gain power acordingly also. Also remember that in the new trilogy the most powerful bad guy is alive, and so is skywalker, but in this movie they both die, balancing the force again.
    And yet another thing: in the first movie yoda says "it is how it always means to be: One master, and one padawan." but yoda and the jedi interpreted this wrong again. I get that this is a force stuff where there can only be one master and one padawan IN EACH SIDE, but it was, yet again, misinterpreted by the jedi.
    So yes: the first three episodes were about the force regaining it's balance.

    • @zazuradia
      @zazuradia 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, i think you missed some part. In the ship, when someone opens a drawer to take something (sorry, i don't remember very well) we slightly see the books that were in the jedi temple. appearently rei took them before the cave exploded. So what i assume the third new movie is going to be about is the jedi accepting the dark side as a natural counterpart, the creation of two new padawans, one for each side, and finally revealing what the original jedi writings told us about the force.

  • @nicholaswiberly3825
    @nicholaswiberly3825 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nope, they aren't going to explain anything in Episode IX about how Rey is so powerful. Why? Because Rian Johnson actually said that in the alternate ending of The Last Jedi, Rey is actually a clone of an ancient, powerful Force user. Her official lineage is that she is a nobody. Just like Snoke, if both characters are nothing, then they ADD nothing to the over all story. I guess some people like Chris Stuckmann like it when dull, boring, pointless plot twist give nothing to the plot.

    One thing to consider is that both the rebellion and first order are on equal playing fields. The order lost its leader and now you have to guys striving for power. The rebellion is without allies. It answered a lot. Rey didn't need to be linked to anyone to have importance in fact I think this helps her character by not having some oh shit moment. She has the Jedi text. Really I look at it as a movie about struggle. Struggle to do what is right. Struggle in admitting your wrongs. A struggle to know when you let someone down and over coming the dark in all our hearts. Snok didn't need to have a grand story just like Palpatine his pride got him. I don't think he linked them in talking just saw what they were doing when he read reys mind and used it to his advantage. His pride was his downfall. There's a lot to take away from this film other than what is presented at face value. If you look at just that than yeah sure it's crap but when you start thinking about what's going on underneath it becomes a better story.

  • @chrislowe9402

    Perfect analysis. I left the movie thinking “in a traditional Star Wars film, the events of this entire film would have been summarized in the 1st few sentences of the opening crawl for the real episode 8.” Things happened, but they were all meaningless! Why not just skip over it and say “After the destruction of starkiller base, the first order has all but crushed the resistance. Kylo Ren has killed Snoke and taken control of the first order while Rey continues her training with Luke Skywalker.” Boom! Ep 8 in 2 sentences! The sad thing is, you now also know everything you need to know from a 2.5 hour movie!

    Why is the lack of backstory for these new characters one of the main reasons you all disliked it so much? Sure, you had your hopes up that Rey had some Jedi relative or something like that, but the whole purpose of a new trilogy is to introduce a story formed around new characters. Snoke was a character created to push Kylos motivations forward, simple as that. He doesn't need backstory and a big jarring twist to his character for it to be good. If you're struggling to find aspects to look forward to in the upcoming movie then I believe you missed the point of what it was this movie was trying to establish.

    This was a great movie. People complain if a movie is too similar and people complain if a movie is too different. Episode 7 was a soft reboot for this new trilogy and it imitated 4 to remind fans of what they like and to not leave new watchers confused. People are just mad that their fan-fic they had in their head before watching the movie didn't happen is all. Rey is trained with a staff already, it's not much extra skill or different from sword or saber.
