1998 Nissan R390 GT1 Road Car - Detailed Walkaround at Amelia Island Concours 2019

- The only road-going Nissan R390 ever made! Very special for Nissan to bring this car from the HQ archives for enthusiasts to see in the flesh at Amelia Concours this year.
What is perhaps most striking about this racecar for the road is how finished and flawless all the details are: from those 300ZX headlights to the leather-wrapped dashboard and ultra-light plexiglass in the tiny LeMans doors. The design details of R390 are all about air extraction - there are more than a dozen reverse vents to suck any trapped air from under the vehicle at track speeds.

I had one of these... On Gran Turismo.

Same i won one for free. In fh4
Burgundy with gold wheels mine was !!!!!
I have one as a Hot Wheels toy.
"Only one R390 road car was ever produced by Nissan as a prototype for the development of the race-cars and was never intended for sale, although Nissan did offer to build further versions at a value of US$1 million."
I guess that means no one asked...
Me sad now.
Sadly no. For years we all thought there are two cuz of the internet but sadly there´s only this one!
That sucked balls. I'd kill for one of these. I guess it's the dream car I'll never own
@@黒キツネ-九零二一零 Yes.
And too bad no one wanted to buy it - if Nissan really offered it.
@@SvenQ45 1 million dollar for 98 is pretty expensive coming from Nissan
There’s two I believe this one and a red one that isn’t as well known..
Still the best looking car I have ever laid eyes on. That type of blue it has is magic too.
it sure is, but did you know they used the headlights of the 300 ZX. Lemans rule said they had to use mass produced parts on the car so they went with the headlights of the 300 ZX and this car was made because the R33 LM wassn't cutting it
This is the rarest of the rarest..
legendary car
The best looking car Nissan has ever produced.
That was my fav car in Gran Turismo.
"Did offer more prototypes for $1M"
So then no one wanted a LM car for the road?
**cries in diesel v10**
They probably did get at least one or two requests, but not enough to meet the quota of practicality.
I knew back in the day (year 2003), that only 2 of these were made to meet the GT category rules (besides the racing car) and sold at USD 1M each.
If I had 1 million I will definitely buy this car
If I had the money I would definitely get it!
This is by far my favorite car.
Anyone who would've payed $1M in the 90's would have like $10M in his pocket right now.
If they were smart enough to this... prolly michhhhh mmricha
That depends, if more were made this might not be worth 15 mil today
@@Ahmed-zv5gz 100 mil JPY is 1 mil USD
Awesome Death profile pic rip Chuck man is a legend
@@Ahmed-zv5gzI think even if a few thousand were produced they’d still be worth at least $5m
I love those headlights and not only Nissan used on this one and the 300zx, the last version of the Lamborghini Diablo without the popup headlights came with this
One of my favorite cars ever
The mc12 Maserati reminds me of this car.
They actually built two road going versions. One is in storage at the nissan zama facility and the other one was sold for an unknown amount to a private collector in England.
Urban legend states that, but I doubt its validity. From what I have seen after my research, the rumor comes from the fact that there were, in a sense, two R390s. One the one in this video, but another that is red, and lacks the long, ducktail rear end. However, despite popular misconception, they are actually the same car, simply with a redone rear-end and a new paintjob.
@@konekoray9323 red ones older btw
@@blinky7081 Yep. And the ducktail was added to improve rear-end stability at high speeds, I believe. Either way, still the same car.
There is 1 R390 road car which initially built in 1997 with a red paint. It was rebuilt in 1998 with a new front end and side vents, longer tail and a ducktail spoiler instead of a wing, and repainted blue.
I have heard that Nissan the used the Jaguar XJR15 as structurial underpinnings for the Nissan R390 GT1.
Had it in test drive 5
Hope Porsche, Mercedes, and Nissan make their gt1 cars a special order like Panoz does with their GTR-1.
Collectors would give anything for one of these now. Especially collectors that have the homologation cars i.e clk gtr, porsche GT1, mclaren F1 etc etc.
I would say that this is basically a Japanese McLaren F1.
More like a 650 Longtail
*Jaguar XJR-15
Are you okay bud? Why are you breathing so heavy?
Cant wait to see it
me enamore con esta preciosidad
I own one

Never heard of this car until I found a hot wheels car of it I though it was a concept car but at the same time maybe it’s a forgotten gem
This car well forgotten but beautiful Going on a top speed of 220 mph That's a lot of speed That was before even any other vehicle had that 220 mph this thing was fast it's time
Nah the first car to do was mclaren f1 to go that fast
Nissan has never proved that this car can go 220 mph
I'm seeing a lot of F1 Longtail, Saleen S7, EB110, and XJ220 in the shape, and the canopy was inspired by the Group C cars back in the day. Cars purpose built like these tend to stick to a pretty common shape, lots of air stability at high speed, but not near the downforce generated that modern LMPs can produce. A wing was installed, but no stabilizer fin unfortunately. If you're wanting a car that's pretty close in design for cheap, look at the Superlite SL-C.
I wish the left the huge fog lights on the road car like they are on the race cars
Easily and quiet hypercar from Japan
A forward cabine, nice!
One of my absolute favourite cars. Anyone know how many horsepower does this car have? I wonder what kind of performance this car can give compared to some modern supercars.
Luka Zavisic It has a 3.5L V8, and it makes 550 HP.
@@Abbbk35 The racecar made that. The road car is only around 300BHP. Maybe a little more.
@@R33Racer then how come it can do 354 km/h
@@liquidhyperion4189 Again, that's the race car.
Road car has 345 BHP.
@@R33Racer bs actually a driver of the race car r390 confirmed me that the 1998 road car had 550 hp against the 350 of the 1997 spec road car
There is 1 other road car out in the wild. Serach "Nissan R390 GT1 Villa d'Este". It's White with Red accents. Sounds amazing too.
there is one problem under the GT rules for Le Mans the manufacturer had to produce 25 road going examples for sale...
Except just like Nissan (albeit more cleverly thanks to Andre De Cortanze), Toyota only produced 1 road version of the GT-ONE and it was enough to satisfy the rules. Likewise, The Lister Storm GTL competed in the 1997 GT1 class despite only having one road going model as well. Even the winning Porsche 911 GT1 from 1998 only had a single Straßenversion ("Street Version" in German) that was enough to allow it to compete. In short, there was alot of rule bending at the time.
Love the nissan r390, Volkswagen nardo and Paganini Zonda c12s
This is BEAUTIFUL!
Best oldie racer, change my mind (especially for Nissan)
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing
Same aero design elements of the "Flying" Mercedes CLR from 1999.
I want this car in Gran Turismo Sports.
"What's your ride Benz or Bimer"
"A Nissan"
*Drive the R390 from your garage
Well it's just a wet dream, the car was built for racing and put in the car museum, I remember Nissan put a R390 in their Nissan museum
What about the red one? Was it the same car in different paint, or for another year?
You can see it on a video on "Men and Motors" channel called "Nissan R390 GTR Supercar - Le Mans"
So this is the exact same car that appears in that Test Drive 5's photo.
Cacodemon9078 the one and only!
@@Car-revs-daily Nice!!!
Are the panels of that car made out of carbon fiber?
Love 90s Homologation supercars...
What Blue is that?I mean, what tonality?
0:48 "sorta looks like the almera" 😆
...I mean, it does. But you wouldn't want to be told that, if you owned this special one off
It's right hand drive becuase the Le Mans pits are on the right, making driver changes that bit easier and faster, nothing to do with any car market as it was never intended to be sold on any market ever!
Wish Nissan would have made 20 of them like Porsche, and Mercedes Benz did.
Barry Johnson yea that would have been great! I think there is alot of carbon kevlar in the construction... which likely made it cost and supply-chain prohibitive. Still quite a magnificently beautiful and delicate, ultralow design versus the porsche gt1 and mb gtr race tanks of the day
Very Special...nice find!!! Let's pull it up to a church on Sunday and start fundraising for a REAL CAUSE!!!

The taillights are GT-R inspired.
Wasn't this built prior to the GT-R?
@@carycoller3140 the GT-R has existed since the 1970s. I think you're thinking of the latest generation of the GT-R.

100,000,000 Yen is a bit less than 900,000 USD
Fifthcell you’re right. It feels more special than that in person though :)
100 mil yens was about 1 mil usd. I will happily pay that if Nissan agrees
I wish Nissan, Porsche, Mercedes Benz, Louts, and Toyota would be like Panoz, and make these cars to order. Panoz will build you a GTR-1 for 900k.
That damn nissan sticker tho
1,2m then 10m now mclaren is 15m
♥️❤️
Such a shame this will never be driven.
Actually, there are another one in Saudi arabia which is in red purple color.. There is also a Porsche 911 gt1 which is in white and black colors.. One Maclaren f1 gtr yellow color and another f1 orange color.. One Bugatti eb110 blue color.. One Mercedes clk gtr silver.. 3 ferrari f40 yellow and 2 red.. 2 f50 red and black.. 2 ferrari Enzo red and yellow.. One jaguar xj220 v12 midnight color.. All in one collector hand and he has other rare cars..
There is only one r390 gt1 road car and its confirmed by nissan it self
The Japanese supercar that time forgot
Take it out of that collection, get it on the track, and let it run once for fans. Just sitting there is a tragedy.
Why are you breathing like you ran 100miles?
Está perrisimo wey. No mames lo malo que no quepo ahí dentro :(
He sounds like he's dying / unable to breathe
3:50 looks like a fucking toy
This car should be pornographic, it is so damn beautiful
This car is exactly like my elementary school crush (who I'm still *madly* in love with): It's very, VERY special to me, it's absolutely beautiful, it's unique, it takes my breath away and leaves me speechless. But then again, just like her, it's inaccessible to me, which means that I can't have it. At all. Therefore it's just a dream for me. 💔 😥

i have a this car. But hot wheels toy 😂

And no I am not thoes Fuc*ing bots
Just a suggestion: try and do even a 1 minute video without using the words "cool", "cooler" or "coolest".
You would fail after 3 seconds (cool is a meaningless word).
Also, if you want to refer to the exchange rate between JPY and USD, spend 1 minute looking it up on your phone before talking about it.
Much better than saying bla bla million yen, "I don't know how much that is".
Not knowing what you're talking about has never been an attractive feature.
Lastly, if you you can only speak for 3 seconds without panting like an Olympic gold medalist, get medical help, fast.
Oh, I nearly forgot, Nissan is not pronounced NEE-sonn. Please find out how to say it (1 more minute of googling) before torturing our "cool" ears.
Just a thought.
Ian.
