If I remember clearly, the 3.5 V8 used in the R390 was the basis for the existence of McLaren M838T 3.8 V8. An engine used in the MP4 12C and following models.
Nope. Never forgot about this car, especially ever since I saw its appearance in Gran Turismo 3. Recently played GT5 on my PS3 and bought an R390 Road Car. Fast as hell and it's quite ahead of its time (even my dad couldn't believe it lmao)
What a stunning Momo!!!!!! However that road legal Porsche G1 is an absolute beast. It looks like it's doing 200mph sitting still. The slats in the bonnet for the cooling look killer.
Not interpreting the 97 rule book in regards to "luggage compartment" was a big failure. IIRC they returned in 98,grabbed a podium with all4 cars finishing in the top 10. I never once thought it was a failure.
Only one road car ever built and all it does is collect dust, for many years. At least one of the race cars got converted to a road car and it's nice to see it brought to life on the road by its owner.
Not by me! I grew up a racing/car enthusiast, as my dad is. Having literally dozens of racing games and videos via Speed Vision/Speed Channel & Top Gear at my disposal, I was always up to date on the hottest and newest in the motor world 😁
The best car you've never herd of, i might be wrong but im pretty sure quite a few people have played Gran Turismo 2 of what game the R390 was a part of
Still a shame there´s only one of them. But for that there is the GT-R 50 now. There were so many rumors around the net. But it´s also understandable given the situation in the 90s. But it´s still beautiful.
No. It was their ugly and stupid front wheel drive Le Mans car that was Nissan's biggest failure. That whole project was a dumpster fire: they even put a racing sim driver in the thing. Utterly Hilarious.
Probably because it was road legal by Japanese standards. It's not uncommon for their cars to be top speed limited. In GT2, the road cars top out at 220km/h (not mph) if you didn't tune the transmission. Beasts otherwise but despite the power advantage, the race cars are too good because of tunable downforce and full blown race car physics that nothing else apart from race modified homologation specials get.
Greatest failure? What about that time Nissan put a kid who won races on his PLAYSTATION behind the wheel of a highly experimental LMP1 car? And predictably killed someone.
finally a actual underrated forgotten car
Facts bro. I learned about this car because I bought a hot wheel of it three years ago. Definitely a beautiful underrated car🔥

That's correct. Even to this day they still hold that secret.
@@santinoevans7225 it's on the Wikipedia page, that's one poorly kept secret.
Yep, the Tom Walkinshaw V8 lives on in McLaren to this day. That thing just doesn’t die.
@@santinoevans7225 Another secret: it's a flat plane crank V8. The same type of crank shaft that are used in most inline 4cylinder engines
And people wonder why mclarens have cooling issues. Great car but still ain't no mazda 787b
Finally someone did this car justice. The car was fast as hell on all video games that had it too
The only fàster vehicles were the Indy/formula 1 cars and the 787b

Forget everything! Let's just wrap our minds around the idea that this legend along with the Lamborghini Diablo got their headlights from the 300zx.
Fun fact, the headlights are from 300z fairlady
And the tail lights from a fiat coupe😅

That converted race R390 is in France and owned by one of their Leman's drivers. Its a beautiful car.
i absolutely loved this car in gran turismo 3.
Loved them all in GT2. 4 versions and they're all quite good. Yes, even the road cars.

the GT1 class made lots of beautiful cars imo
Magnesium engine block? Holy cow. Never heard of that.

24 hours of Le Mans is. The best of the best!
All Altima owners need to see this shxt
Why? To see how long Nissan has been struggling with overheating transmissions? 🤣🥲😢
Nissan knew the writing was on the wall and this was going to be the old crew’s swan song. And it was, despite the position in racing.

I love the r390 GT1 but I prefer with the R92CP. And the GTP ZXT had an amazing run too in Imsa

Man, I just wanna see Nissan back at LeMans and win soon. I miss those guys.
this is my favourite car ever since i saw it first in gt2
a gran turismo 3 A-spec favorite 🤤
One amazing car, thanks
The R390 Project was dead because of the GT1 series collapsing under it's own financial weight! Not because Nissan was unsuccesful.
i saw one of these racecars in Como displayed this year!
What about the 1997 R390 Road Car? I remember that Gran Turismo 2 for the PS1 had the blue 1998 Road Car and the red 1997 Road Car.
Also had the 97 and 98 GT1 Race cars as well
Its the same car nissan painted it.
@@dingrey Yes and no. All they did was make it more streamline and gave it a new color. But both versions still do exist as 97 & 98
The second car was up for auction at goodwood this yr
I really never head but i already loved it
I'm curious about the race car converted to road use. Was it an extra or a race used chassis?
