This just saved me big time. Had no idea the parking brake set itself. I could not close the caliper to save my life and then I saw this video. Thank you!!
Thanks a ton for this video. I'm replacing the pads and rotors on a 2018 Terrain with electric parking brake in a few days. I would have been stuck if not for this video, I've never seen an electric parking brake before!
In the emergency brake motor, after turning the torque screw into service mode, do you screw it back out? Or just leave it in service mode and remount??
both videos i watched they did not mess with it, I think it's less a mode and more of a mechanical release that is reset once the motor is turned back on and run the first time.
@@jimknowlton342 yeah I had to apart, and turn screw until it stopped, then I was able to push the caliper back, yeah you have to leave it there then it does reset once you’re done and put everything back together 👍
Do you know of a sequence that automatically backs off the e-brake? All i do in my F150 is use the key and park brake switch to put it into service mode. Thanks for the video.
When you put it in park, the rear brakes automatically engage. It’s important to park it on a flat surface to ensure the parking brake is off. I wish there was an easier way, but it’s not too difficult to do.
So basically you turning the brake service mode on with the Allen wrench is the same as going into the computer and shutting it off? Iv seen other videos that sware you need a scanner to put into service mode?
Hey bro quick question before you started the repair did you put the vehicle in service mode or did you just go at it like that and manually turn the caliper back without putting the car in service mode with the button?
@@THEDIYKings while this works it IS NOT the correct way. What everyone is saying about service mode is in fact the correct way. I work on these daily. You should put it into service mode to do the brakes. The way you are doing it, while it may work, is extra work and taking the parking motor off can cause extra unnecessary wear. This is causing extra steps that can complicate this job. Putting the vehicle in to brake service mode eliminates this
@@danwilson1060 all you have to do is put the vehicle into brake service mode. Wait and listen, you will hear the emergency brakes winding up. once that is done you can do the whole job no problem.. i dont even use a scanner
The fronts should be 300mm. They are on this 2018 GMC Terrain. The rear rotors are a different smaller size than the fronts since the front take the majority of the load. Hope this helps! Enter you the trim/specs of your car into an auto parts website and it’ll get you the correct ones.
this vehicle has two options for size rotors. If you have 4 piston brake calipers it uses the bigger option. If you only have the dual piston it uses the smaller option
Just used this for my 2019 GMC Terrain 2.0; you rock dude! Saved me mad cash on this one!

I just watched this video while i did my job...well worth it..
Appreciate your video saved me like 500 in dealer costs. Thank you so much for time and video.
You're welcome!
Great how to video, thanks for not making it confusing,
wish you was around here..great job.
I just beat the snot outta the brake pistons and wouldn’t budge.. saving me headaches and strain thank you lol

you are correct. Always put it in brake service mode first. Then you dont have to do half of this. And its safer for the vehicle

How far counterclockwise do you go when you’re done?
Thanks for the video. I would've fd that job up... I subed
Do you need to disconnect the battery so the actuator doesn't activate by chance?
Hey bro quick question before you started the repair did you put the vehicle in service mode or did you just go at it like that and manually turn the caliper back without putting the car in service mode with the button?
You have to manually do it, unless you have an advanced scanner to place them into service mode. They automatically lock when parked

Do we need to mess with the EPB at all if we're just changing pads?
I have a 2018 GMC terrain SLE 2.0 are the front rotors 300mm or 321mm im so confused they aren’t interchangeable are they?

What rotors are those? I live in NY and need something painted that won't rust with all the salt here.
Does this work for 2019 terrain denali
Thank you brother saved my ass huge!!
do u have to reset the ebrake when pushing back them calipers
Thanks a lot
@2:28 I had carefully and very slightly bent the brake line to access with a driver for that one hard to reach bolt
That is up to you. It’s fairly risky…I’d be very careful doing that, but glad you were able to make it work.
9:32 is that rotor screw important? Mine stripped out
i was always told those rotor screws are for factory use during assembly to keep the rotors in place and are not needed afterwards?
Is this the front or the rear he is doing ?
Rear
Does this work on all trims?
Yes, any terrain with an electronic parking brake
Reat video
Turn on your tips I wanted to leave you some $$ for the help.
That rotor looks badly grooved
