    Thank you! (Also, the subtitles thing can't handle druidry and has settled for 'Georgie', and things Bardic is Bartok, which I thought was rather funny!)

    This is amazing to me Danni! I am nearly 43 years old. For the last year I have felt spiritually bereft. I have always felt the beliefs of indigenous cultures to make more sense than the Catholicism I was raised with, I was skeptical as a child. I have decided to try and put a true name to my beliefs and through all of my reading and research have found Druidry is the name. This has led me to you and this video. As I listen to you I realize that I have been on this path even longer than I knew. I am an avid gardener and amateur botanist. The medicinal benefits of cannabis intrigue me. I am a collector of houseplants. Last year I began research into the ancestry of both my husband and I.
    These journeys have started many years before my need to define my beliefs did. It would seem that fate has been paving a path all along for me to find my place in Druidry.

    Thanks for the shoutout! Also, major kudos for getting my last name right! That's very rare for me lol.
    I first got into Druidry ironically enough while working at a bible camp. Growing up Lutheran, I had always gone to this camp in the summers and had lots of fun memories there, and in my college years, I decided to work there for a summer job. At the time, I was feeling a bit lost from any sense of spirituality and there was so much in the contemporary practice of Christianity that really was NOT working for me.
    During our 2 weeks of staff training, we worked with a local pastor and his wife on various ways we could help our kids at camp explore spiritual ideas and practices. The wife, particularly, spent a whole afternoon with us, teaching us to make various crafts that were based in what she called "ancient methods" We did finger labyrinths, anglican rosaries, and we made alter cloths (I'm still using mine in my current practice, though it's a bit worn these days). One of the things that she said, which really struck a chord with me, was that because of the historical development of Lutheranism and the Reformation, Lutherans aren't very good at tangible elements with a spiritual practice. Kids, she noted, needed to have tanigble elements because they haven't quite developed the ability to fully engage with all the abstract theology that dominates most Christian practice. I would say that adults also struggle with this because I was an adult struggling with the notion of wanting a spiritual practice that felt more active than sitting in church and listening to sermons.
    About a year later, I was still mulling over this and one night just googled "Can you be Christian and pagan?" That search lead me to ODOD's website, the section on melding Christianity and Druidry and I could not even believe that it was real. It was everything that I was looking for. Within a few months, I joined and have been loving it ever since!

      Wow! I can completely relate to finding Druidry, in some ways, through Christian roots. I really started practicing when I was in college. . . a Jesuit, Catholic University. I felt the freedom to really commit to practices that reflected my relationship with Diety and the world after learning with Jesuits. The woman that you spoke about in your comment sounds brilliant! How many people really understand how children approach spirituality and know how to bring that into the world. Incredible origin story!

    • @abigailwacholz394
      @abigailwacholz394 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! Being involved in children's ministry in that way was really eye-opening and interesting for me. I think it's kind of funny how the way we approach children's ministry is inherently free, and experimental, but the expectation is once you go through confirmation, you are expected to let go of that experimentation and focus solely on the intellectual/theological aspects throughout your adult faith-life. On the OBOD site, there's a great piece written by Sean O'Laoire called A Sensible God, that illustrates this perfectly:

    Thank you, Danni. I am new to studying Druidry, but it seems I have been walking this same path for a long while, I just didn't know its name :).. My deeper interest in Celtic spirituality, and the study of Druidism, only began in recent years after returning home from a trip that included Ireland, England, and Scotland as well as many countries. I have English, Scottish and Irish forebears, but because I'm of the 5th generation who landed on the opposite side of the world I have felt no connection at all, until I trod upon the soil of those places and visited many sacred sites. In searching for a book to refer to, I kept landing on Penny's book, and a friend whose opinion I sought also recommended this one, so that's convincing. :) I actually read books like those you recommended all the time, especially on medicinal herbs and, lately, on fungi ID, rather than novels, ID :) Thank you for your thorough run through of things to know and books to read.. :) All things good to you ... 🌼🌳🐞☀☘🌍

    Hello Danni. Thank you for this video! I was led to Druidry about two years ago, but knew Christianity wasn’t for me long before that. I really connected with Druidry a little over a year ago when I was pregnant with my baby. Due to some unforeseen stresses I was beginning to miscarry. While resting, I implored the Goddess to allow me to keep my baby and promised myself to Druidry and furthering my faith. Within an hour, my bleeding stopped and my daughter was born healthy and beautiful. Ever since then I have been reading The Path to Druidry and loving every moment! I’m so glad to see there are more of us out there and I enjoy reading everyone else’s journeys. Peace be with you all!

    I was interested in druidry because of the nature and finding out a druids role in the past. that fascinated me and I saw myself doing that or would love to do that. in the past they were counselors and peacemakers. that appealed to me. plus the healer. I am a reiki master so the healing was very important to me.right now I am on the bardic gwersi through obod. And I highly recommend it
    I have learned so far a lot about myself. its going a lot slower for me than the usual year study. but I have found out others can and have taken a while too. so I don't feel as bad. but I am going at my own pace. I love it and have learned a lot about myself. I recommend it highly. This video and your other videos on this subject are awesome. I highly recommend them to anyone interested in druidry. they are well thought out and also well articulated.kudos to you.

    I'm just starting my druidic path. Through my research on paganism in general, I found out that, though I am a Wiccan as of a few months ago, I can still learn Druidry and become a druid as well. Since I am still young, I doubt I'll be able to join any druidic groves as of yet. I'll likely be a solitary druid until college as I will be a solitary Wiccan/witch until then. I am still in the beginning stages of study for all of this, so these books will be very useful in my journey to come. I'm just so happy to have finally found a starting point for my druidic journey. I've always been well acquainted with magic, as my family is more spiritual. Though, they follow the religion of Christianity, which I do not judge. So I am highly proficient in divination using tarot cards and I have many other natural magical affinities. Not to mention I have druidic ancestry. Sadly, the majority of the knowledge I could have been imparted with from them, was lost long ago. So I have to start from the beginning. As a solitary druid, I will likely be using quite a few of your videos for help in this journey of mine. Blessings to u. 😊

    Hi! I am so grateful to have stumbled across your channel. I have been a practicing Pagan for over 20 years. I previously identified as Wiccan but as I have grown older I started just saying I was Pagan and privately I would say I was a solitary witch. During meditations I began to learn more about myself and became interested in Druidry in the last 6-8 months. The biggest thing that really pushed me to start really looking into it was that during a meditation I was greeted by 'my' goddess. I had to really research this woman as I had never heard of her or seen her before. It was Elen of The Ways. She actually took me somewhere. At the moment I am researching how strong the pull is to Druidry. Thank you for creating these videos because they are incredibly helpful to me in my quest for knowledge. Blessings. X

    Loved your selection that you chose and giving others ideas and not just set books to read. I have some of those books myself that you have in your collection. Great video. I came to druidry because I have always felt a connection to the Celts and the Celtic Goddesses/Gods. I had studied Magick and Witchcraft for years and many other spiritual cultures and spiritual paths. Druidry I felt so drawn to, so I researched it in the libraries, book stores and then online. I found several Druidry organizations and schools. OBOD just felt like the best fit for me and I am so glad that I chose it. Bright Blessings.

    Thank you for your beginner videos! I've found them so helpful. My faith practice (Christianity) and the practice of generations and generations of my ancestors has not worked well for me. It took me a long time to finally admit that my way of approaching faith has been damaging, not only to me but to my children. :'( During this time of endings and beginnings, I've been spending a lot of time in the forest. Danni, what an informative video! So glad you're sharing your experience and your journey. I'm drawn to Druidry for three reasons: connection to nature and healing, connection to my ancestry, and connection to the otherworld. There's always been a strong connection to Nature and it's so important to help protect it. I'm sad to see that the chasm between Nature and most of humanity seems to be growing. When I received my DNA results, I was well over 85% Briton. The "encounters" with the Fae Folk are becoming increasingly frequent and strong. Also love that music, arts, healing and story are an integral part of Druidry. How exciting it is to learn and you've been so supportive by helping to discover what's next!

    What brought me to Druidry: I have a lot of British Ancestry, I have been studying paganism since I was a teenager and a friend was studying OBOD so I read her introductory course books and then purchased the whole first course myself. I have been slowly working through the course, but need some motivation to keep going. I'm hoping videos like yours will be that inspiration and motivation that I need. Thanks for the video!

      Well, I'm glad you found your way here! It's so interesting to hear how everyone came to Druidry. It's wonderful that your friend help inspire you by sharing their course materials with you. I didn't have difficulties staying motivated through the bard course, but I was really challenged by the Ovate course. It was interesting and useful, but there were moments when other things in my life kept drawing me a way from finishing the course. Something finally clicked and I confronted the topics in the course that were challenging. I'm grateful I finished, but I can understand how hard it can be to keep trucking along. The beautiful thing is there is no rush to finish! My mentor was just as pleased to communicate with me no matter how long it was taking!

    In this video you advise to “get outside”. What is your advise to somebody that live in a city with just few trees?

    • @DanniEsotericMoment
      @DanniEsotericMoment  6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Great question! Even the city has a different feel to it when you are outside of a building. If you are able, I'd recommend taking a walk around the block (maybe with a friend if your neighborhood makes you uncomfortable). You don't need a park or trees to connect to the natural world. There are clouds and weather changes to observe. Weeds grow everywhere between cracks in the sidewalk. Cities are home to wildlife, too. I think the difference with connecting to Nature in the city is the level of observation. City Druids have to search deeper and come to know Nature in smaller chunks. City Druids have some of the best observation skills around! Learn to see, hear, and feel the changes your city has throughout the whole year. The nature of the city might have fewer trees, might even be less green, but it is there and vibrant.
      You can also grow some house plants or hardy herbs in your home. Feeling the soil often and caring for a plant are a great way to tap into the spirit of growth/decay. Community Gardens are another great option. Might take some googling to find one near you, or you might have to start one yourself (personally, I want to see more root top gardens!). Finally, when I say "regularly" that might mean once a month for you or even just during sabbots. Take that time to take the bus or drive outside of the city to a state park or more rural area if you can.
      Good Luck!

    Thank You Danni for another excellent video! When I was a child I was drawn to nature and felt a “heavenly” connection to the out of doors. Somewhere a caught the name Druid, maybe a history book, and my quest began. I was fortunate to meet some people to help and encourage me in that early study. What I learned then has grown over my life, even though I am still a beginner even in my 50's.
    An old saying: “When the student is ready the teacher will appear!” Currently you are my favorite Teacher!

    Wow, this is incredible. I have just started binge watching many of your videos. I am aching for the fact that I’ve been connected to nature and magic my whole life (I’m now 51) but have never managed to be structured about it which is horrible as I knew I needed it desperately to make life work for me. I have done many spiritual classes and explorations though but never had strong solid unshakable structure. I have called forth the guidance and here you are, with just the information I have been looking for, after doing a TH-cam search on John Michael Greer-whom I have been drawn to, but I knew I needed a woman’s perspective (I also am a woman) as well as other authors to explore.
    This is exciting.
    Though also I wonder why it took so long for me to see this.

    My mother was a shaman; I come by the pagan path naturally. When I first started looking at paths about two decades ago, Druidry was actually the first path I considered, before exploring eclectic paganism, shamanism, and hedgewitchery. I don't remember why it didn't call me then, but I explored other paths. Recently, though, I realized I had misunderstood hedgewitchery; hedgewitches hedge jump. I don't. It's part of why I stepped off the shamanic path: I never spirit journeyed. So I started researching, as I am wont to do. When I stumbled back across the Druidic path, it called my name. Loud. I am now coordinating to begin OBOD's course, hopefully in time to celebrate Samhain with my initiation. I appreciate your videos! Very informative, and I'm gonna go ahead and watch like all of them now! :D

    "Get outside!" Yeah I got outside, that's what got me into this Druid 'mess' in the first place! LOL Visited the Avebury complex in Wiltshire (UK) three times and knew I had found something truly special. Both my friend and I felt a peculiar energy entering the centre of our backs and going down to our feet when we first entered the circle. I'm obsessed with Horticulture too, especially shrubs and herbaceous perennials, so that fits right in! I want to learn more about foraging next and have just taken charge of a large allotment plot. There's something special about growing your own food. I'm also mad on European Archaeology and collect antiquities, so that's another related area in terms of connecting to the ancestors, things they actually made and held.
    Thanks for the recommendations!
    Be well...

    Thanks, Danni. Great to see young people are still taking an interest in paganism. I don't really identify as any particular religion, i'm sort of a pan-spiritual seeker. Have always been drawn to myth and legend of many cultures, especially Celtic. I have an affinity for the Green Man and honoring the ancestors and communing with nature. Recently retired and I'm going out soon to look for a staff. I wanted to ask what "sapling" refers to. Are those beginners or a general term for Druids? Looking forward to more of your videos.

    Thank you for this video! It's really helps to keep things simple. 😊
    My connection with YHVH, (I like to say Yavi), has brought me to learn how to connect with nature. I love the Creater's handy work. Also, my love of wisdom has brought me to wizardry. In my walk many things are... different for me as I learn these things. I make them my own, so they ring beautifully in my journey, and resound with YHVH. Blessings!

    I first became interested in Druidry after reading The Sevenwaters Trilogy by Juliet Marillier. I have always been very connected to nature and have found solace among trees. I was raised in a very Christian home, but I never felt like myself. Rather, I always felt like I was impersonating someone else. I am new to this path and came across your videos quite by accident! Thank you for these videos!

    Ive been on a path trying to find my way for about 2 years now. After running from it for about 25. I just put out the desire to find the right path. I was watching a video on pegans and they asked whats the first thing you think of when you hear the word Druid. I thought to myself trees, trees and rocks. So i did some studying and here I am :)

    The trees were always calling.
    it's something that was in me. I am like my ancestors in many ways.
    Saxon/Norse paganism in my family was hidden from me only peaking out at odd moments with odd things that later in life were undeniably pagan. Good and beautiful things. There is the strong Pictish/Celtic branch in my family as well...so at some point
    I came across two books, one of ancient Irish tales and a reprint of a very old book on Druids when I was in my late teens...early twenties.
    That is where it began...at least consciously. I'm quite a bit older now and have had many different kinds of teachers from different paths and all these teachings and how they have influenced me, flow together in a beautiful way. However now things are becoming formalized I suppose.
    I will always be learning and sharing, growing and evolving. I'm more myself every day!
    You do a terrific job here Dani. I've subscribed.
    Blessings.

    What seed brought me to Druidry? I would have to say that I've been called my entire life to a nature based spirituality and after moving to my current state I experienced a wall go down and the trees began speaking to me. That was the final word for me.

    Thank you for the recommendations and I found I already have 2. How did I come to this? Crazy as it sounds, it's been calling me just as the forest always has... I have always been spiritual and have explored a number of religions but this just keeps calling..

    • @DanniEsotericMoment
      @DanniEsotericMoment  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yay for already having the books!! It's so interesting that many people find that the forest of Druidry has been softly calling them for many years. I think sometimes people reach the point where the calling is just like "OK, now. You have to move NOW. We've been patient with you, but it's time."

    A mixture of sleep paralysis, threatening homelessness (for my entire country), always having a sense of knowing 'something' that I haven't found, not believing in mainstream religions, I feel the torment of Ireland's past and I feel history may repeat itself soon. I want to help.
    Druids are the keepers of tradition, culture, and knowledge but at the still time progressive. Growing with the tree, not cutting away the roots once it gets big enough.
    Druidry/ Druids can save people, I want to save people. Save people save = save the planet.

    I have a question for you Danni, and I hope you can answer it whenever you have a free moment. I was wondering, do you actually believe the Gods exist? Or do you see them in more of a metaphorical way like some people I know? Personally I believe they do exist.

    • @DanniEsotericMoment
      @DanniEsotericMoment  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The Question of Deity, you don't beat around do you Matt? lol No, it's a great question. I'll try to answer briefly (really should do a video on this!). I define my perspective on Deity as an Animist and a Panentheist. As an animist I believe that every person, creature, plant, and thing has a spirit or spark of Deity all of its own. However, I also believe that the Universe has a uniting and guiding spirit, which I call Goddess in my practice, that infuses all things and goes beyond all things. When I do work connecting with a particular god or goddess, like Brigid, then I see them as a part of that uniting force. I see the specific gods and goddesses as being shortcuts, in a sense, for humans to understand and connect to that larger force. So, Yes I think they exist but I don't think they are the end all be all when it comes to describing Deity in its entirety. :D

    • @matthewpettipas8233
      @matthewpettipas8233 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha yes, I am very direct when I ask questions (at least some of the time!). I think we share the same beliefs generally when it comes to Deity and I am also an animist. Thank you for answering my question!

    Danni, I am very drawn to being a Bard. I am interested in geanology and the arts, singing, poetry etc.. I went to Scotland and my life changed. My grandma talked alot about our Scottish heritage and our ancestry, I made a promise to myself that I was going to make a pilgrimage to Scotland. As time when by, I felt this tug or calling to go there and it got stronger and stronger. I did eventually head the call of my heart and I went to Scotland. I went to the clan Ross headquarters in Tain. I then got to see Stonehenge and as I was taking pictures from different angles of Stonehenge I got this huge shadow like a side view of someone's face. Upon leaving Scotland I cried. I wish that I could have stayed there.

    How do you work out the spirit of place idea when we know that the 1st peoples are still here and ask us to not meddle with their ancestors. Do you ask permission from the tribe?

    • @DanniEsotericMoment
      @DanniEsotericMoment  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      When I speak of spirit of the place, I'm speaking about the deity inherent in the land. It's not about ancestors at all. Those are two separate concepts in my practice. When I pay homage to the ancestors of the Native Americans buried in these lands, I'm not meddling with the ancestors of those tribe. I am merely expressing "I recognize that I am a decedent of the colonizers who did so much damage to your home. I am striving to be a better steward to the land than those who come before me." When I honor the ancestors I call on blood ancestors, ancestors of my tradition, and ancestors of the land (Native Americans). It seems only fitting to acknowledge their rightful place even if I'm not invoking their aid or attempting to disrupt them.

    Too bad that 99% of ACTUAL Druid lore was lost after the Romans came. You can't be a real Druid anymore than a mixed Native American like myself can just say "I'm a Medicine Man" without years of training, don't get me wrong. I'm all for the idea of it but the VAST majority of knowledge is gone, Ogham was an incomplete alphabet and not primarily used for Ritual and Worship. I wish it wasn't so as my own Tribe's religion is almost extinct as well. My Father was Cherokee (a real one) and had Scottish thrown in (MacLeod of Harris) while my Mother was Miwok with some Irish thrown in. I've always been interested in the Beliefs of my ancestors, Native and Celtic, but always acknowledge that modern interpretations are likely incorrect or at least open to debate. Thankfully we still have Native Elders who retain some of what has been lost. Best Wishes from this Pagan.

    When a video is titled "Top 5 Books" it is not very inspiring or honest to start by saying that you have something more important to say. When you went on to say that your book list was at the end of the video I nearly switched off. Luckily, that statement was also false.
    Not a bad book list but the video presentation needs improving.
