The fact that OBOD acknowledges all types of deity concepts as equally valid while still providing a unifying framework for personal practice is, in my opinion, very special. It celebrates diversity. The harmony between abstract and more focused concepts really is quite unique amongst the spiritual paths I have investigated. For me that is why OBOD Druidry was definitely a homecoming.
I never thought, as a gay Mexican who loves shopping and Starbucks would ever say this, but I think I’m a Druid. I’ve read on so many religious practices and philosophies and from some of your videos, I think this is what it is. I’ve always dismissed these kind of practices because I always looked at it as like.. no offense but like Larping in the woods lol. I had no idea there was real and actually deep philosophical world views within it. It helps that I’m seeing an educated, and at face value, a secularly minded woman presenting this information. Idk why I didn’t assume that I can still continue my degree, use conventional deodorant, and get a flu shot once a year, you know? It makes me feel more “normal,” for a lack of a better term about it. Honestly, I think from your videos, I’m going to sign up tonight.
I am a gay Mexican too. I work in healthcare and hey modern-day druidism is for the modern world. I feel as a Mexican Druidy and Curanderismo go well together. I'd say with similar background learn Curanderismo to connect with ancestry. But over all it is up to you
Yay OBOD!!! I've been a member for almost 4 years now (omg-time flies!). What definitely drew me to the order was the relaxed idea towards deity and the ability to mix the OBOD material with other traditions. i grew up Lutheran and that faith is still so important to me. My experience with OBOD has both given me new traditions to work in, but has made my Christian traditions so much more meaningful to me and I am forever grateful for that. :)
Yes, it has a beautiful way of allowing its members to flourish and grow. Expansion never at the cost of loosing one's roots or the things that bring joy to your spiritual practice
I ordered the first sample lesson and the include a poster of things druids love. I love how druids are bound to community by shared loves, not shared beliefs. I love that it is so non dogmatic.
I feel so lucky to have found the group. Both the virtual OBODies and IRL OBODies I've met have been wonderful. It's been a boon both personally and socially for my spirituality. :)
I completely agree, I also feel so very lucky! One of my goals this year is to try harder to reach out and connect to OBODies, because I haven’t really and I’m missing that type of social connection a TON.
This is very useful for me to make up my mind. Thank you for your thoughts on it, and your editing to make it as concise as possible. It shows great care.
My wife has just recieved her certificate from Phillip Carr-Gomm to recognise completion of all 3 courses,it is a lovely certificate and she did it in 3 and half years.Im very proud of her
Having searched for a very long time, I walked away from organized religion in my teens and until almost 10 years ago had not found the direction I wanted to go. I did try various organizations, I found Buddhism to be close to most of my beliefs and values, then the universe pointed me to Druidry and OBOD, I realized very soon I was home (so to speak). Watching this video I found my self nodding yes yes yes to all of your 10 points, thank you for putting into words my very thoughts 👏👏👏
Thank you for this video. Currently working through Penny Billington's Path of Druidry. Once I finish this, I will decide whether to pursue the OBOD course! I am so excited by this journey I have begun! Took me a long time to find a path that fit who I am... but now that I have ... so inspired! Have a beautiful week!
I think it's brilliant to work through The Path of Druidry first. It will feed into the course well if you decide to join OBOD but it will also enliven a new Druid practice even if you don't do OBOD.
Hi Danni, really loved this video. I didn't need convincing as I've been a member of the Order for 13 years now, but I love your energy. You have a new subscriber and I look forward to more videos!
This was very interesting. I love how well you articulate your reasons for being glad that you joined OBOD. I ordered the Introductory packet from the Order this year, which I really appreciate. The cost is still something I need to consider, since I only work part-time at the moment. I normally connect with Nature on my walks, saying hello quietly to plants and animals along the way, and try to live an eco-friendly lifestyle (car-free, buy organic, reduce/reuse/recycle, etc.), but I am drawn to the ideas of structure and community that you mention are present in OBOD. Thank you for creating this video!🌳🌳🌳
Hi Dani, Thank you for your videos. You are a lovely person. What matters to me is respect for nature and its cycles. ❤ Having been raised in a wild woods I know the feeling of Awen well. It is my natural state. I am of mostly celtic blood and the whole Druid mindset just comes naturally to me. 😊

I'm also in the Ovate grade, and agree wholeheartedly. The Ovate grade is the type of material that called me to Druidry to begin with. Best of luck on your journey through the grade.
Yes, the Ovate grade offers a lot more depth and magic. I think it includes all the elements folks look forward to studying when participating with a magical group.

How wonderful! You can always check out the Order of Bards, Ovates, and Druids facebook page if you want to meet others on the path right away. The FB page has really started to pop now that the Chief does live video there every week.
Sometimes these Reason Why videos can come off as an infomercial of the Vloggers favorite cause. I am glad to say that this one did not. I probably would change the order of precedence of these awesome points, but I’m sure every member would have their own precedence. I would like to add one to the list: Leadership from Beside and not Above. While OBOD does have a hierarchy, it is not the dogmatic type that some groups have. The leadership is more about housekeeping than herding the sheep. Local groups are autonomous as are individual Druids, there is a tremendous amount of freedom in the Order. Another point I would like to share is Cost. There are several ways to defray the cost of the course, see Pauline K 's reply to Donna D’s comment below. You can also opt to share the course with a friend for a small fee. So two or three friends could share the material as a group. Or someone who has already complete the current course could share them with you for basically just a registration fee and not the cost of the full course. (With this be aware there is a prohibition against copying the material)
Thank you Jay! I didn't think about the Leadership aspect, but you are so right. I love the way you put it as "Beside and not Above" It's very fitting for what OBOD does. Muggles is a great slang word that helps communicate an idea. You'll notice that I don't use that word exclusively. I'm not interested in having my druidry be "true" according to some external force but rather be a reflection of my connection to the land and my ancestors.
Arrgh! It's DEITY, not DIETY! If it was just this once, I wouldn't bring it up, but I've seen this word misspelled several times by several Pagans. You probably already know the English word DEITY comes from the Latin word for god, so here's how to remember it: "In excelsis DEO", or, if you prefer to think of theatrical tricks rather than angelic hosts, "DEUS ex machina". The root is "de-", so think "de-ity", not "diet-y" -- God(dess) doesn't need to go on a diet!
I just don't have spellcheck in my editing software and was rushing through my editing process. Since I do these only when I have a few hours to spare, I missed it. But I'm glad you pointed it out for others.
Proper Druids may have health issues that you're not aware of. I have cancer and am about to start taking a medication which may cause weight gain. You never know what someone else's situation is, so kindness is always a good default.

Yes, it's not a religion as such anyone can study druidry, it more about spirituality.
If you follow different gods than druids but have a similar path could the course work for you
OBOD doesn't have any set belief about Deity. You can follow whatever Gods you want.

Proper Druids may have health issues that you're not aware of. I have cancer and am about to start taking a medication which may cause weight gain. You never know what someone else's situation is, so kindness is always a good default.
