I feel so connected to this theology, these stories; I've chosen to purchase the intro to OBOD package and can't wait to see what this path has in store!
That was really beautiful. You truly bring Druidism to life. There is something special about hearing stories told, rather than reading them in written form - although both are valuable, for sure. I loved your talk on the river in Africa. Surely, my environment in semi-arid southern California is quite different from the UK, Ireland, and other Celtic lands., and yet we can all experience a wonderful meditation in Nature wherever we may live. Thank you for this talk. 💚💚💚
You are so lovely at explaining the Druids moon cycle and Ceridwen story. Thank you 🙏hope you can come one of our Moon ceremony’s in Northumberland one day 🙏👍
It is very significant that you are presenting Druidry in such an accessible and approachable way during these times of tremendous transition. Since this Wisdom Tradition embraces diversity, the balm of acceptance contained within brings much needed healing of brokenness and division. My heart soars with the possibilities for the soul of our world!
This is fascinating. I had an experience myself that I treasure from many years ago. I hope that there is a chapter in Vermont that I can look up and pursue. I went to Ireland last year to live but it didn’t work out. I do think there’s something magical about Vermont now that I have returned.
I first heard this story a few years ago from a Druid I met by chance below the egg stone at Glastonbury Tor. It has stayed with me ever since and led to many arcane adventures. All these druid stories are alchemical and a potent source of inspiration. Thank you so much for sharing your insights.
Thank you so much Philip for your beautiful articulate storytelling and educating I am trying to absorb every word. I have one of your books on audible, your daughter your wife and yourself ........ awe storytelling at its best! that’s all I have to say. I do love the word Arwen, the meaning and all it is. I love the way it sounds the way it flows, what a beautiful name for a child. Blessings! 🌕🌖🌗🌘🌑🌒🌓🌔🌕🌎🌍🌏🍃🍂🌞
This resonated with me on so many levels. This was also a story that has stuck with me since I first started learning, it will always be a favorite. I love that you spoke about the affects of the moon on people now too, and the person haveing to close there shop on dark moons was hilarious.😂 As always top notch content! Looking fwd to more videos but glad you will be taking some time for yourself for a while.
many thanks to this great introductory my friend :) I slowly gain more knowledge and insights into druidism and yeah it's exciting and I feel kind of more energetic the more I read about it and the more I watch your videos :)
In Ireland, long before the christian era, the Trinity was adored and sacred. Ireland had 3 ancient names: Éire - Bamba - Fodla. There were 3 classes of Druid: 1 a master of Music - 1 a master of Science / Divination - 1 a master of Literature ie ancient law, poetry, incantations etc etc. The Triple Goddess Bridget, daughter of the Dagda, was Goddess of Healing - Poetry - The Forge ie blacksmiths. The Irish Musicians had 3 styles of music: 1. Gen - traige (pronounced: gan - tree) which incited merriment, laughter, happiness. 2. Gol - traige (gol - tree) sorrow, lament, death, funeral tunes. 3. Súan - traige (suan - tree) lullabies, tunes to induce comfort and sleep. The Druids could invoke good ..... or evil. To hurt their enemies, they had many curses (pishogue's) the making of charms (ag déanamh). For example: A light twig, bent into a circle, and thrown into the face of an adversary, induced madness. To destroy a person, as they did with Cormac the King, because he embraced "the new faith", they called on the "siabhradh" (Irish Gaelic) a class of malignant / dangerous sídhe (shee) ie the Fairies, to dispose of him. The Druids hiding within their Fe-fiada (a cloak of invisibility) watched quietly, as the King choked on a fishbone. The early Irish Monks who went to Iona and Lindisfarne, still dressed in the ancient manner - a long sheep skin mantle which went to the ground, they wore black paint on their eyelids, and a tonsure - hair shaven at the front ie bald in front of their ears (in adoration of the moon). Long hair behind their ears, flowing down their backs (in adoration of the sun) Hair representing rays, the light of the sun, fertility. Needless to say, this did not go down well with the Roman Church, leading eventually to their demise. See: The Synod of Whitby in 664. I could go on .... and on ...
so many metaphors to this story ❤️ a year of transformation (baked) Beautiful what is the nature of what you see as meditation. I feel aligned with druid thinking, but details like the nature of meditation are not available to me. I have an idea, I have experienced this already-on occasion, but …
The ancient Celts observed a luni-solar calendar, which means that each month was a lunar cycle. The lunar cycle is roughly 29.5 days, which means each month was either 29 or 30 days. 12 cycles is a bit over 354 days, and 13 cycles is a bit under 384 days, which means there was a 13th month in "leap" years, that's how luni-solar calendars work. There is a 19 year cycle in which there are always 12 years of 12 months each, and 7 of 13 months each, because 19 solar cycles (years) is almost exactly equal to 235 lunar cycles (months). (12x12=144, 7x13=91, 144+91=235) The 4 Celtic festivals were celebrated on dates in this luni-solar calendar, which means they were at the same phases of the moon every year, not dates fixed by a solar calendar (like Nov. 1, May 1, etc.). And they lasted for 3 days each, because 3 is the number of complete days within each phase of the moon. Because there are 8 phases of the lunar cycle (1;new/crescent, 2;waxing half, 3;waxing gibbous, 4;full, 5;waning gibbous, 6;waning half, 7;old/de-crescent, 8;dark/invisible) and 29.5 divided by 8 is roughly 3.6. The 1st of these festivals in the year was Imbolc, which was at the time of the new/crescent moon, when the sun was in Aquarius. In other words, it was the first 3 days of the 4th month. The 2nd was Beltane, which was at the full moon with the sun in Taurus, that is, the 12th/13th/14th days of the 7th month. The 3rd was Lunasa, which was also a full moon, with the sun in Leo, that is, 12th/13th/14th of the 10th month. And the last was Samhuinn, which was the dark moon with the sun in Scorpio, that is the last 3 days of the 12th (or 13th in leap years) month. The word Samhuinn means "summer's end", which proves it was the end of the year, not the beginning. So the 4 festivals were observed at 3 phases of the moon; crescent, full, and dark. Which correspond to the 3 aspects of the Goddess Ceridwen; maiden, mother, crone. If modern Druids wish to be connected to the Celtic ancestors and tradition, then they should observe these festivals at the times the ancients did. To observe them on dates fixed in a solar calendar, disconnects from tradition, from the ancestors, and from the meanings and purposes of the festivals. For example, Lunasa was at a full moon, because it was a cereal harvest festival. And for as long as farming has existed, farmers have always sowed seeds at new moons, and harvested crops at full moons. And Samhuinn was at a dark (invisible) moon, because it was all about connecting to the unseen world, the "otherworld" of Celtic mythology, to the ancestors, and to the gods, and the "faerie folk". And by the way, the true time of Samhuinn, that is, when the sun and moon are both in Scorpio, is exactly the same time as the Hindu festival of Diwali. And Julius Caesar stated that the Druids shaved the front or top halves of their heads "from ear to ear, forward to the hairline", which is exactly how the Brahmins of Sri Lanka and the far south of India shave their heads. And there is a Welsh oral tradition which states that the Britons came originally from the Isle of Taprobane, which is what the ancient Greeks called Sri Lanka. As Lewis Spence wrote in his book The History and Origins of Druidism; "That the Druids were Brahmins, there can be no doubt". (edit:) And for the ancient Celts, the days began at sunset, because the new moons are only visible for a short time after sunset (in the western sky). The days began at sunset because the months began from the sighting of the new crescent moons. Therefore, the CORRECT times for the next few festivals will be as follows; Lughnassadh: sunset Aug.2-sunset Aug.5, 2020. Samhuinn: sunset Nov.15-sunset Nov.18 (which will be the last 3 days of the 13th month, making this year a "leap"). Imbolc: sunset Feb.13-sunset Feb.16, 2021. And Beltane: sunset Apr.25-sunset Apr.28.
i think that this video was made before eimar's succession because it says at the very end that philip is the chief, obviously this must have been made before this event.
Dear TH-cam ... please stop unsubscribing me from channels I love, thank you very much :chuckles:. As you can guess, I just had to re-sub ... AGAIN! :D

Wonderful introduction thank you. Enjoyed the Pukeko pillows!
What an exquisite presentation!
Truly fascinating. Thank you
The pukeko on the pillow stood out very loudly! Kia ora from Aotearoa!
thanks, I have difficulty for some things to go in, that helps hearing on a TH-cam :)
Thank you♡
I just signed up for the introduction package for the OBOD. Thank you for sharing this.
It's a beautiful path!
How are you getting on?
This is brilliant, the Eight-fold Ceremonial Year description was like music.
There are so many cycles regarding the moon, an 18 cycle is just one that springs to mind.

Trying to understand, could you help?
Is there anything within literature, lore, that relates phases of the moon with seasons?
Lovely video Philip. We thought you were resting! But of course you're pressing on any chance you get.♥️
Such wonderful moon information! I truly believe in male periods and biological fluctuations throughout the month. Blessings! Aimee Agatha

It's AWEN, not "arwen", and it means INSPIRATION.
Appreciate being a Bard; now a student of Ovate! Ukulele HollyBloe USA Druidry for me is a pathway of growth and love!

I really enjoy the moon. That gallinule pillow is cool.
Good overview. Nice talk.
Bom dia, sabe me dizer se existe o curso de druidismo da OBOD em português?

Weren’t you supposed to take a little breaktime for yourself? Thank you for this anyways 😊
Didn't you know how Druids take breaks ;)
Yes ceredweens cauldron
