The thing you called an "electrode holder" is called a collet body. The collet is the thing that goes inside it. The thing you called a collet is actually called a cup.
I am generally terrible at specific terms, comes from a combination of being somewhat self taught in most things, and working alone much of the time. Thanks for the correction!
Enjoyed your honest no frills approach. I am in the process of rebuilding a Series 3 109” Landrover from the 1970’s. I’ve got exactly the same repair to complete on my rear tub. TIG welding is proving a challenge to say the least. Hope you got your defender road and track ready. All the best from the U.K. Mat
Thanks so much, All I can say is clean clean clean, and use wax on your abrasives when you want to grind/sand it. Also I found that bringing the heat up and down rather than just keeping it in one spot helps.
