      Ehhhhh not really. The game at launch had horrible balancing, a flipping coin flip system that basically determined which side won, 2 healers, less content, etc.
      With over watch 2 (minus the pve this is basically a big balance patch) I’d say the game is generally in a really good state.

      @@lilwintery6434 I truthfully believe the only reason Overwatch was more fun in 2016 than now is because no one took it seriously in 2016. By that I mean no one knew what they were doing and every single character was nonsenically overtuned. So everyone was just having fun playing these broken ass superheroes and doing stupid stuff with friends in party. But now that it's been so long everyone for the most part knows what they're doing and as a result are taking the game seriously. Taking a game where every single specialist is SUPER overtuned for their specialty is just not possible to play competetively. Or balance properly for that matter. These character aren't overtuned in a titanfall 2 way. They're overtuned in the sense of "let's give every single hero at least one power that takes absolutely no skill to use whatsoever and can shut down an entire category of specialists with no counterplay made available." Because of how these stupid ass heroes are designed a single nerf or buff to any of them makes or breaks a character completely. The game was fundamentally designed in a way where trying to do anything outside of dick around instantly makes the game not fun. And dicking around in Overwatch this late into its lifespan is just not a thing you can do. Like 90% of the community is filled with sweats so sweaty their rooms are flooded

    For me, Overwatch is frustrating in the same way a MOBA is frustrating.Having to deal with characters with annoying or overpower abilities,everything being highly competitive even in casual mode and the fact that you have no choice but to work as a team and if someone messes up it could cost you the game.Given that it borrows aspects from MOBAS this doesn't surprise me.

    I’m a hardcore overwatch and I have to say that the amount of fun your gonna have in the game, depends on the people you are playing with or against. Playing with a group of friends makes the game hundreds times more fun but playing with ransoms can be boring and frustrating at times. The enemy team is no expectations to that rule. If your playing with actually good players and they don’t just use a crowd control move, it can be a very good match.

    As a competitive OW player I was going into this video expecting absolute garbage takes from somebody who doesn't understand a thing about the game, but this opinion was surprisingly refreshing to hear. It's nice to hear the takes of a casual player, as that's who the devs really need to be marketing this game to, not the people who play OW1 already, most of us are already sold on the game. If you're at all curious, here is the opinion that I have on OW now as a competitive player, and many of those that I know hold similar thoughts about the game at the moment.
    1. The OW2 Beta feels infinitely better than the live game. Removing a tank makes it way easier for individuals to have an impact on the game, and removing CC lets you actually play the game. My thoughts about this are strong enough to where I can't even touch OW1 anymore without playing in a casual 6 stack with friends, or in an organized scrim team environment.
    2. Although the beta didn't change a whole lot, it was never expected to. The beta was the first of at least 3, meaning we have less than a third of the PvP content that will be coming to OW2, but its not about how much is changed, its about how the game feels. As most people who played early Overwatch know, Genji was one of the most fun and powerful characters, but power creep and additional CC made him feel unplayable in 95% of situations, but in OW2 he feels better than he ever has, despite him receiving 0 changes.
    3. Many people, especially casual players who stopped playing years ago know nothing about the OW team's position involving Blizzard's internal issues. Due to OW being Blizzard's newest IPs with a dev team full of new employees, and luckily led by Jeff Kaplan, who had nothing to do with any of the sexual abuse, none of the allegations have been coming from the OW team. Due to this, there has been a bit of a disconnect between Blizzard and the OW devs, as well as a power struggle between who truly controls Overwatch. This is a big reason why we are even getting Overwatch 2 in the first place, instead of it just being an update or DLC. It basically is an update anyway, since the PvP changes will be free for everybody who owns OW1.
    And thank you for not going down the "OW bad because TF2 good" route. I hate seeing fans of two games I love start arguments with each other over nothing.

Casual was really fun because people were more experimental, and you had a lot of memers just doing their own thing. As time went on, the community got worse, the balance got worse, and then the company got worse. I think my biggest gripe with Overwatch is that the gameplay is so rigid and the game is on rails. There is NO REAL CUSTOMIZATION, you have a set character, a set load-out and the ONLY thing that you can change is RIGID SKINS. Also you can't play for fun, you are forced to sweat for the win. TF2 is sandbox and fun, it can be competitive. Overwatch is a sweatfest, you win or hate the time you spent, no in between. [TF2 released in 2007, Overwatch 2016]
    -You have to have a full team.
    -You can get locked out of the character you want to play, locking it for others if you do play it.
    -You are forced to work as a team, but in most games the match is so clearly one-sided and it becomes a sweaty mess.
    -You can't switch things up, without changing class.
    -You have to play for objective and to win (hear me out).
    In TF2 you join a server with like 4 people in it and have the time of your life in a myriad of ways to test yourself against people, be social or generally have a good lark. Unbalanced teams (in terms of skill) doesn't matter because most people go looking to pick fights and socialize instead of sewating objective like a trained monkey EVERY match all-day-every-day. If you want to play to win, there's plenty of servers that are ran for competitive game play and with the game being somewhat open-source communities are free to balance the entire gameplay to their server. More often than not, the instances where you and an enemy are duking it out in the middle of a warzone is so fun that dying to your opponent doesn't leave you with a salty taste in your mouth, you wanna rush back and claim revenge. These instances of 1v1's is far far different to 1v1's in Overwatch, because you're not forced to push ahead and the maps are so big with multiple paths and weird side rooms that a full lobby in TF2 is more you looking to pick a fight, not push objective or do anything to win, but just to skirmish and revel in the chaotic fun that TF2 is.
    TF2 is a different breed of game, every player on each side has their own custom agenda: *Get a tonne of kills with my cursed claymore so I can move really fast and one shot people*, *find the largest group of players and bombard them*, *look for people to stab in the back as a spy, not because it furthers my team, but because it's funny and I want to practice my janky trickstabs*.
    Overwatch FORCES you to do objective and win, or you feel like you wasted your time, losing in TF2 doesn't mean anything, in Overwatch it's a shit and inevitable fate, you will eventually lose and you'll hate it.
    EVERYTHING IS SO FORCED, they even publicly released "inclusive point system" to show us how "unique" a character is by the colour of their skin and where they fall on what spectrum, it's the most grievous thing I ever witnessed.
    Some of the characters are directly plagiarized from TF2 directly, with as little change as possible (probably to use TF2 and their design as a medium ton try leech players to Overwatch as "comfort" characters resembling ones they already knew well and respected. You know Medic players will try Mercy from the fact she is a healer who uses a medical laser beam and has the same low-power personal offensive arms (a syringe gun and a small automatic pistol that functions the same).
    There's so many dull characters that have no sense of humor or real qualities other than "I must do my duty for all is good and right, blah, blah f***ing blah", their only defining trait of trying to be an unachievable paragon of human kindness...
    In TF2, yes all of the characters have a VERY stereotypical nature, but they have their own unique character. They have quirks, they express joy in all manner of ways other than the generic cheering of the Overwatch robots.
    The story of the TF2 characters is compelling, Overwatch characters are just generic cookie cutter entities that have no real depth, sure they rushed out comics and media, but there's no soul.
    TF2 is about three brothers vying over a family legacy and two of them squandering their money fighting over nothing, bringing the playable characters into their petty squabbles.
    Overwatch is about cookie cutter global defense team vs terrorists...
    The Overwatch characters are bland and boring, designed to be churned out to fill up a big roster as a selling point, all of them with pages of awkwardly cliche/plagiarized backstories that are printed from thin air, each as tedious to read as the last.
    TF2 has 9 characters, with a good spread of roles and versatile so you can customize your play style. The fashion is far more in-depth in TF2 as you can mix and match pieces for a theme or fun. In Overwatch, you just get pre-made skins they shovel out designed to eclipse the last so you fork over your cash chasing 1% drops.
    TF2 does have really expensive rare variants, but for pennies you can grab an assortment of fun things and weapons.
    TF2 has a lot of really cool customization depth.
    TF2 lest you play cool community made game modes that transcends other shooters. One game is a player that is mega powerful and fast that literally 1v30's that actually seems well balanced as either side can win fisably. One is a zombie game mode, there is prop-hunt and death run. There are also official game modes such as a robot defense mode and the like.
    Every Overwatch side game-mode fails utterly to innovate at all and just seems to try recycle the same concepts superficially without bringing anything new.

  • @terminallyunfunny9728
    @terminallyunfunny9728 2 ปีที่แล้ว +126

    I think part of the problem is that despite taking a lot of inspiration from Team Fortress 2, Blizzard thought the idea of switching heroes would be groundbreaking enough to not also take the customization options from TF2.
    In TF2 each merc has multiple different weapons and gadgets that can completely change your playstyle and strengths and weaknesses in ways that would make 2 different loadouts feel completely different.
    Meanwhile in Overwatch each hero has one set of abilities that is the same every time, and if you like a hero but want to have a slightly different playstyle, too bad. It wouldn't be so much of a problem if each hero was well designed enough to work in multiple playstyles and comps, but that's not the case. Most heroes have a very specific role along with counters that can be incredibly one sided forcing you to swap.
    Ironically, most of the time you can't even switch heroes because of the metas and the fact that 90% of the ults are so busted and swapping heroes resets your ult progress there's no incentive to do so. It's usually better to wait it out until you get your ult to swap to a hero better suited for the neutral game, and that makes the game really frustrating if you are getting rolled early on since there isn't much you can do to turn it around besides hope you can out Q press their Q presses.

      I can't agree with the first part tho, ofc every hero has its own set of abilities just like many games but since there are so many heroes to choose from, unlike TF2, your playstyle is actually more dependent and influenced by your team comp, and their team comp, which is one of the things I find interesting about it, or you are a soldier that keeps with the team and supports its healers or a soldier that just flanks to get kills on their healers

      Counterpoint: TF2 was designed to be played with other players in mind, not against aimbots.

    • @Supershadow301
      @Supershadow301 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ED-gw9rg The downside is survivability, but sure if you omit it, then there's no downside.
      Let's take rocketjumping for example. Without it, soldiers are barely more mobile than heavies.
      A simple rocketjump takes away 30-45 HP off a soldier's health (without gunboats nor accounting for fall dmg), which brings him down to 170HP (or less, because of fall damage), enough to die to 2 well-aimed rockets at medium range (~90 dmg on a direct hit) instead of 3.
      That makes up for barely 1 extra second of survivability, but that's enough to fire an extra rocket and potentially kill the enemy before they kill you (assuming neither of you miss).
      Another downside is firepower. Most equipments that make rocketjumping easier makes the soldier weaker(less damaging rocketlaunchers deal less damage to enemies ; the blackbox heals you but has less ammo (aka less firepower) ; the gunboats (or the concheror) remove your secondary weapon ; at the extreme, the rocketjumper lets you zoom around the map if you know the jumps, but you don't have a rocketlauncher).
      Finally, you need enough skill to outset the loss of survivability. Not every soldier knows the particular techniques to jump higher/farther or to airstrafe effectively, or the ways to chain jumps to make you truly go zoom around the map. And even then, you have to actually put those to use.

    I feel like a big problem with Overwatch is it's trying to be a MoBA and TF2 at the same time, and the two ideas just conflict with each other.
    It gets further exemplified by the fact that the game was made all about "playing as your favorite character" but then you get only 2 DPS picks out of like 20 characters and you're competing with your team just to play the way you want. (Which may not even be a hero helpful to the team, too bad if you like playing them.)
    Compare with TF2 where if you like playing Pyro and so does someone else you can just have 4 Pyros on your team and have a big old Pyro party and it's not even really a bad thing.
    I mean of course even in TF2 you still want some team comp diversity, but the point being you can main 1 or 2 classes in that game without harming your team in the process instead of having the case of "I like to play Tracer!" and playing Tracer will cause your team to lose because she gets hard countered by the enemy team. (I know I'm kind of rambling at this point.)

    I think the major difference between Overwatch and TF2 is - as mentioned - the stun moves.
    In TF2, Scout had a stun with the Sandman which was very quickly nerfed into the ground and Scout was given a slap across the face for even daring to touch the Sandman after that. Yeah, Pyro has airblast and explosions can knock you around, but you can pretty easily counter that with good movement and gamesense. The only other actual stuns are with taunt kills, and I mean, come on - you *walked* into that Huntsman Sniper's taunt kill.
    In Overwatch, if an enemy roadhog, mccree, rein, ana, etc. exists, you can't do anything about their stun moves and just get locked into it until they decide they're done with you. There's an enemy Mei? Haha and you thought Phlog Pyros were bad.
    Also Ultimates are horrible to fight against because certain heroes get an instakill button with very little counterplay. It's like if every mercenary in TF2 could pop uber and kritz for 8 seconds after getting a few kills.

    • @lilwintery6434
      @lilwintery6434 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Thornskade 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, people ARE making whatever they want in TF2. There's mods that transform the gameplay into Mario Kart, Warioware, 30 vs 1 boss modes, single-player puzzles, story modes, 2D jump and runs...
      But, despite all that freedom, it's hard to get into learning how to create scripts and/or custom maps and models. In that sense, Overwatch is better for people who just like to casually create something. But the mods in TF2 are more enjoyable for everyone, Overwatch workshop stuff was pretty garbage when I tried it on release and creations were very limited. I doubt that changed but I really haven't played it ever again other than back when it came out

In TF2 you could have fun no matter how much your team sucked, it didn't feel like winning was conducive to having a good time. I guess that's the difference between a competitive game and a casual one, so what I take from this is that we need more casual games, because they are just generally more fun. I started OW around 3 months ago and it's honestly so hard to get a win streak nowadays because of these types of people. Honestly, they should stay on comp (where they belong tbh.)

Then I got another friend group who played it, and then they ditched it. Then they came back, and they ditched it again. So over the course of 3 major eras I accumulated all that wasted time. The worst part is that I never liked it. I only had fun maybe 3 games out of all that time.
