defender's crest can kill the little ghost things while fighting lost kin, which is really useful in pantheon of hallownest and just in general
Useful in pantheons, absolutely not. In hall of gods, maybe. It’s more of a crutch if you can’t handle the balloons. If you can take care of them, the minuscule damage of the defenders crest make it a waste of a charm notch. If you use the strength-quickslash-shamansstone-longnail then you can instantly kill the balloons then move back to lost kin. And it also exceeds in absolutely murdering other bosses

The animation at the start is one of the best hollow knight animations I've ever seen. Great work! It ads a more cartoonish and colorful vibe to the game, while still keeping the more dark art style. I love this.

This is definitely one of your best videos so far, just because of the fact you gave a SERIOUSLY IMPRESSIVE review to the game, without crossing the overly humorous mark that your videos usually convey. Fucking fantastic video.
Two small things I really love about this game is how it quietly caters itself to the player. This is seen with Overcharming and the Map
I accidentally discovered Overcharm when I wanted to equip more charms. Annoyed that I didnt have enough notches, I kept sellectong a charm when I noticed the pink cracking. I kept going and bam! Overcharmed.
The fact that you can walk with the map open and you can see your character move is one of my favorite features Hollow Knight has. Its such a small but efficient detail that other games that dont have it feel minorly restrictive

I agree 100%... I really, REALLY hope that sometime team cherry will do a DLC adding stuff to the Abyss. That area just feels like it needs (and deserves) some love, the atmosphere and ideas are so perfect, but no bosses and it's very linear... a shame that kickstarter goal was never met. I don't care if it's 10 years down the road, I don't care if its paid (team cherry please stop spoiling us), I just want at some point, a bit more of hollow knight. The void and ancient civilization are both aspects of the lore that feel like they have room to be fleshed out. And I'm not confident Silksong will do that (although its possible). At the end of the day I just want more places to explore in hollow knight.
They were planning to do more with the Abyss, even giving it an entire bossfight but they didn't get enough funds on their Kickstarter, so they had to scrap it.

@@onaschaturvedi1585 there was a backer goal to have bosses in the void sea, and there's an unused asset of an abyss bench- it was definitely meant to have more. I do like having vast empty spaces in it like the giant well down though, that definitely does add atmosphere

I just wanted to say thanks for making me buy this game. Your original video was the reason why I bought it in the first place and I'm honestly not sure if I would have bought it otherwise. It was not only a masterpiece of a game itself but also my gateway into other indie games as well. Without this game I'm really not sure who I would be today, and the fact that a 7 minute video on youtube made me buy it in the first place still amazes me. And now that your making another video on this game really means that you can give it justice. And CybeR making another animation for it too really excites me. I hope to see a lot of new people buying the game after this video comes out as well.

Hollow knight is a masterpiece of a game. I once one it from a give away, but sadly quickly put it down. Because I didn’t know where to go.
After talking to a friend who completed it though I got the motivation to continue the game. And I’m glad I did. I loved it. And still do.
The art is amazing, the music in the game is phenomenal and the game play is so satisfying. (Even when I die for the 10267th time)
I haven’t gotten around to fully completing the pantheons (I got pretty far though, and I’ve completed a fair amount of bosses on radiant mode. Including for example nightmare king Grimm.) but I still love it a lot. Even when I know I probably will not be able to complete the pantheons anytime soon.
But none the less. The game is gorgeous and generally wonderfull.
And even if I won it from a give away, the price is so criminally low for how high quality the game is, even with the dlc included. It seems like something that you’d need to pay a good 30 bucks for. But no. It’s way cheaper.
It’s so worth getting. And I’d highly suggest it too anyone.
If you have the time, and the little amount of money needed. Get the damn game. It’s very very good. And I’m sure you will love it. If not for the great sound track and art then definitely for the gameplay itself.

I don't get it. For me, it feels like this game was made for a small audience of extreme gamers and no one else. If you sre thinking about buying the game, only do it if you're very good at these sorts of games, otherwise, don't.

Thank you for introducing me to Hollow Knight with this video 2 years ago Foekoe. It became my favourite game I have played so far and I'm currently waiting for Silksong to have a similar experience like I did with this game.

this gives me nostalgia of when I first played the game. thank you for bringing back those memories of when I first picked it up from target. completing the game or even just bosses was reliving and satisfying after enduring their attack and spells. Grimm and Hornet 1 and 2 I had the struggle with the most. I couldn't keep up with their fast paced attacks. But after some time, I beat them. Defeating the Hollow Knight was the clearest memory I had at of the game. I had finally gotten the ending, but there was still more. Even though if you completed The ending there is way more up ahead. Such as Defeating optional bosses, unlocking more charms, and challenging the Pantheon. The replayability of this game is astounding to my little cave man brain. And even if you have completed everything I talked about earlier, there still is one more final boss. The Radiance. I had struggled the most of this particular boss and I even tried to get advice from some youtubers like CrankyTemplar when he was livestreaming. The feeling of when I beat the Radiance Was ecstatic. I no longer play Hollow Knight because I have done everything I can (except doing Pantheon 5 and 4). But because of this particular game I have more interest in the metroidvania genre. I do think this is an underrated game and I really do recommend it to people who haven't played. Once again, thank you for bringing back these memories.

The beginning of hollow knight is much slower than the rest of the game. It's a shame that so many players give up too quickly (like me)

Honestly hollow knight got me through lock down and well it also is the reason I taught myself to play the accordion and how I well spent time and it’s the first game I picked up extremely quickly and the community is just wonderful I don’t feel at all threatened and well the community is also kinda welcoming and it’s kinda funny how most of the bigger hollow knight creators know each other.

I can’t thank you enough for pushing me to buy this game. I’ve always been interested in this game, but I remember you suggesting it before in a video, and that pushed me to buy it. And that changed my life forever. This game is not only my favorite game, but my favorite piece of art I’ve ever experienced. Everything about this game is absolutely breathtaking. The soundtrack made me feel every single emotion out there. This game truly was something special. And I highly recommend everyone to play this game. Team cherry is truly such an amazing indie developer and changed how I think about video games.

I’ve only played hollow knight for half the time you have, and I honestly still suck at it. But finally beating the radiance’s head in after 25+ attempts was just so satisfying… and there’s still more game for me to play. Hollow knight is an experience everyone should have.

‘Elegy for hallownest’ is basically just a sumamrisation for the story up until that point. That someone created a kingdom, and something bad happened. Makes a lot more sense the second time you replay the game, so i think itd have been cool if you could read it in monomons archives.
I really agree with you. This game was my first game i ever played on PC, and this was so good. I'm so glad that the Hollow knight was first. Music, fighting, exploring and graphic - amazing masterpiece. I think Silksong is going to be my 2nd favorite game :D

Wow! Extremely well made video! I was quite a bit hesitant regarding buying this game, but I think I will! Congrats Foekoe, you made Team Cherry some money! (also I may or may not know everything now so uh)
When I bought this game I had no prior knowledge on what to expect just 10 minutes of a guy on twitch doing the pantheons and that interested me to buy it and after finishing both the true ending boss and Grim this game was not only the game that brought back my love for video games but also was the door way into the world of indie games. This in my mind no matter what is a solid 10/10 and the only thing left to say is WHEN IS SILK SONG
I've done everything in the game except steel soul and the 5th pantheon and I'm proud of that.

What I would give to experience this game for this first time again…
It's been over 2 years and I still haven't completed the 5th Pantheon, it's easily the hardest thing in any game I've played.

5th pantheon is more an endurance test than a trial of mastery. After finishing it theres no way I'm ever going to bother do it with all bindings. Unless I have no sanity to lose.

@@unlimited8410 I think the intended strat is to practice the individual bosses in the hall of gods to the point where you're almost guaranteed to get it. Both of my friends to beat it got all bosses but 3-5 in radiant mode before trying.
So in that sense, it's a challenge that motivates mastery.
@@iurigrang I mean yeah but I already knew all the bosses well enough to defeat them all one by one, the problem was just not messing up at the end after like an hour of doing the other bosses. Now that I think about it, the biggest hurdles was uumuu just becaue of how tiresome it was to wait to attack it. I think its mostly tilt that will stop people from finishing off the 5th pantheon. I remember defeating the pantheon the second time in one try after finishing it off for the first time for that other ending. Really I just think the 5th pantheon relies too much on its length than actual diffuculty so that it is 'difficult'. Same can be said for the third trial which in my opinion is even worse by throwing a whole boss at you with a very unusual attack pattern that'll take you a few tries to get and make you waste another hour just to fight it. And this time you can't even practice against it.
Hopefully there won't be any marathons like these in Silksong, and if there are, at least make them much more rewarding.

I have put over 500 hours into this game at this point, over 300 of it being in godhome, Radiant bosses and the pantheons really are my thing (planning on doing some modded bosses soon) it just feels so nice to finally consistently beat pantheon 5 after over a dozen attemps before beatong it once

speedrunning gives me anxiety and i value my sanity too much to try the Pantheon of Hallownest again.
I have nearly 400 hours in Hollow Knight and it wasn't until just recently that I beat the Path of Pain
I was on and off about throwing myself into spikes in the "attempt" of progress and it took me SEVEN HOURS alone on my final attempt alone to beat it
I still have no idea how people beat it in ~30 minutes but to those who can, good on you for it

I wanna thank you from the bottom of my heart for making this video. Ever since I watched this video I got the game and I've been having the best time of my gaming life. There are some times where I have to take a long break from a boss or I get frustrated at some of the basic enemies but other than those I LOVE this game. It feels so fresh to play after playing nothing but Mario. Keep up the amazing work.

Man i have been experiencing some depression from this game. Its that feeling when you want to re experience something for the first time. I have been dealing with this feeling for a year now and i dont know how to cope man it really fkn pains me knowing that i will never experience the thrill of playing hk for the first time ever again.
Today I finally beat the fifth pantheon, now I feel complete with myself
to be able to make a 20 minute video at your quality and editing style is just bonkers, wish I had this dedication

when I started playing HK, I quit when I reached the false knight, but then when I went to live at my grandpa for the summer I had no internet and I fell in love with this game. The boss fights are fun, the exploration is interesting, there are a bunch of enemy types, VERY VERY VERY deep lore and much more. LOVE ITTTTTTTTTTTTT

Ever since I played hollow knight, it has become my favorite game I've ever played. So much so that I got a Kingsbrand tat on the Hames 3rd birthday. The atmosphere, the combat, the music, the story, everything about is just impeccable.The only game that came close to topping it for me was Outer Wilds but I still think of the crappy place my life was in when I found hollow knight and its held a special place in my heart ever since. And I'd say you capture how I felt pretty accurately. Good video my guy🙏🙏

As someone who’s done everything in Hollow Knight (I mean more than 300%, I’ve beaten every boss in the game hitless, completed 112% Glass Soul + 112% Steel Soul + hitless Path of Pain, gotten every achievement, beaten the game without glitches in under an hour (not much but then I got into glitches and beat it in 40 minutes). So I’ve done quite a bit, and that’s on top of beating the game without using Soul (so that’s without healing and without spells, and yes that means I was forced to beat P5 without healing (which was the same run I beat Glass Soul). It’s my favourite game, and I’ve put over 500+ hours into the game. You know, I’m something of a vessel myself)
