Mandy, we will never be upset with Gracie Lou being vocal! We’re all happy to hear her chatter and 99% of us yell out “GIVE HER CHEESE!” every time we hear her. 😂
I have a male cat he is beautiful years ago my friend showed up here with 2 a male and female she took the female. We named them Bonnie and Clyde. Clyde is not fixed but he a great cat guards our home and stays here on property. Anyway I guess it's that time of year there is 6:cats female's trying to hunt him down he in the dog house he is tired. Ha ha ha
Ahhh this is my Subbie Super! I’m the Stephanie that submitted this! 🥰 Girl, this made my day (week… month… maybe even year!) thank you so much for picking it. My grandma would be BEAMING! She made Pastina so many different ways, many that are in the comments, and it makes my heart happy it brought back memories for many and you’re bringing it to new tables as well ❤ SO glad you guys enjoyed it! This made me smile ear to ear. We made it last night actually cause Nic was feeling sick. Also, I hope Tabby and her boys ended up getting some 😉 Thank you Mandy, for being a staple in mine and so many others homes and bringing such yummy food to our tables ❤
Hi Mandy. Yes that’s the soup version of Pastina. BUT the traditional way is to boil in regular water however much pasta you need. Then drain but save a little so not dry. Add a scoop to your bowl then some butter and pecorino Romano or Parmesan if u prefer and mix. That’s it. Just butter and cheese. Most Italians start off eating this as babies first foods.
Chef here! People cook shrimp with the tails/shells on because the shells have so much flavor! We always leave the entire shell on and peel at the table. My baby loves the “Mandy Show” and always perks up with Stevens voice, says, “kitty” when he hears Gracie and dances to the little song that plays at the end of the episode. 😊❤
But the tails are perfectly fine to eat so it really doesn’t matter how you’re actually eating the shrimp. It has more to do with cooking. The tail/shell supposedly can add more flavor and helps to sort of encapsulate the meat of the shrimp with whatever sauces you’re cooking it in, therefore, infusing more flavor into the meat.
@@yari139 There's no way that leaving the Tail on helps with the flavor, My Son and I have done countless taste tests with friends and family while he was going to Culinary School and NOBODY has EVER found the tail on to taste any DIFFERENT, if you want to eat the Tails, enjoy it, one of these days you'll cut your esophagus and regret it.
@@The_Timinator um yeah, not sure why the need to be so aggressive. I never said it actually tasted better, I said “supposedly”. Learn to read, maybe? Oh my goodness! Pastina! My Nana used to make this for me as an after school snack! She made it exactly this way! I miss my Nana so much but I try to carry on with her recipes. She would also sometimes make escarole soup which begins like the pastina . It’s really hard to find escarole in my area. Thank you and Stephanie for making my day! Oh- almost forgot about- some grated Parmesan on top is delicious! 🌻😊
I knew Gracie Lou was old, but not 20! She is amazing. I had a cat live to 19 and a dog live to 17. My current dog and cats always come check out my screen when they hear her meow for cheese! And I love that Eve 6 song that was in your head while blending. This all looks amazing and I'm going to try that soup for sure! Happy Weekend from Northwest Georgia!
Pastina is known as "Italian baby food" It is one of the 1st foods I ate my mom & grandmother told me. No teeth needed. LOL!!It brings back great memories whenever I eat it. The more grated parm in the broth the better!!
It all looks good. I got a few good things to share. I was told at one of the apartments that I applied for that I could be in an apartment in 3 to 4 months. But the best news I got today when I woke up was that my Son and his fiance both were Baptist on Sunday. I've never been so proud and happy for them both. 🙏 Have a great week. 😊
oh, that's a great idea. And maybe add a some italian seasons. Tip: if you don't have the pastini, pulse up some dried macaroni in a coffee grinder, about forty pulses, and you'll have tiny fragments of pasta. Tiny Pasta.
@@dkortea This is honestly my favorite hack. Today, I made a hot soupy dish that was too soupy, so instead of thickening with flour, I ground up some penne, in coffee grinder, into bits and pieces and added it to the soup, and in five minute, done. While eating a bowl (cabbage veg soup) I noted there was some "chew to a few bites"! The bigger pieces were 'al dente' but what nice surprise. ❤
Growing up in an Italian family I ate pastina as a child with butter and parmesan cheese. I fed this to my boys when they were small. We still love it today, Yum
Hi Mandy! I’m a senior in college and I have been watching you since you started. I just wanted to let you know that your recipes are used all the time in my busy, college lifestyle and I and my boyfriend always love them. Thank you ❤
The Italian Penicillin soup with that tiny pasta looked fab. My grocery store doesn't carry Pastini and it's expensive to order online. So, my work-a-round is to put a handful of dried macaroni in my coffee grinder and pulse forty times, until you get small fragments of Pasta!
This reminds me of the Mexican Hot soup my hispanic friend taught me. One can of Herdez Hot Tomato sauce and a small bag of alphabet noodles. I buy them in the hispanic section of the grocery store. in olive oil and butter, saute the pasta until light golden brown. Add the tomato sauce and cook until done. Then serve with shredded cheese on top. If you like hot food, this will fill the bill.
I have made pastina before, but never blended the veggies. I will definitely do that next time. Try adding a parmesan rind into the broth and letting it simmer until it becomes gelatinous, then discard. Takes it over the top! As Steven said, it's such a comforting soup❤
AUBURN, CA!!!! I'm only 45 min from there. Great town!! Loved the local subbie supper!! Going to have to try it. Thanks for all the videos!! You and your hubby are the absolute cutest!!! P.S. my son was also a 10 pounder!
Asparagus tip , I think maybe someone has said it before. Hold the tough end and about 2inches from the top gently bend it will snap where the hard ends end … the can use that as your guide to trim the rest . I also will pop one or two in store to see if I have a good bundle ..
Hi everyone, Italian penicillin, 💝💝💝💝💝. my grandmother also did just broth , dropped an egg like Chinese egg drop soup, than a pat of butter .and grated cheese. Yummmmm to this recipe 😋😋😋
Stephanie, thank you for sharing your grandma's love and cooking with us. @Mandy, you are beautiful for sharing folks' tales. God Bless each and every one.
My Italian family makes something similar to this soup with the Pastina. It’s a mighty little pasta so delicious going to try this recipe for sure 😋❤️‼️
Because the smell, tail included contains water-soluble compounds that accentuate the shrimp’s umami’s taste and aromatic compounds that lend even more its makes the shrimp easier to handle 👍👍❤️
I may have missed it in your merchandise but I think a great t-shirt with : That's a Go-backer would be great. I certainly would buy one. If everyone agrees, let them know in these Comments....
Love your videos toumake our family dinners so much easier especially on weekdays. When you started singing Inside Out by Eve 6 I was transported back to my teens I saw them live in New York back in 96 at KRockathon my first concert😊❤
I grew up in an Italian American home and had Pastina a lot. Now I make it for my family. Since you love cheese add some grated Locatelli to your bowl of Pastina. It’s even better with cheese!
The shell of the shrimp adds a depth of flavor. Which is why you leave them on. Or... If you have a mesh bag, simmer in some water and add that to your sauce later. You can freeze the shrimp shell "broth" in ice cube trays for later meals/recipes.
I use the shrimp tails and shells to make a shrimp stock when I'm making shrimp risotto. I also add some shallots and garlic to the stock as well as some spices and a bay leaf, then strain it before I start to ladle it into the risotto. It makes a huge difference in the flavor.
I can’t wait to make the Subbie Supper, it looks delicious. I don’t like shrimp, but I’m sure loved that segment. Of course I love everything you do! Oh! I’m so glad you finished that song, it was one of those things that seemed incomplete. 😂 My mom has a song for absolutely everything, too.
Gracie!!! Love that furbaby!! The recipes as usual are mouthwatering, and so enjoy your interactions with hubby. Making the shrimp first and everything else out this weekend.😇
Quick tip for the asparagus- while the rubber bands are still on, find a spot you want to cut them off at, and do it then, so you don’t have to fuss with washing and drying and spreading out beforehand, all that silliness. Easy peasy 😅
My grandma made a soup very similar to "subbie supper".She put bite size pieces of chicken, NEVER blended the veggies, used the same pastina and on top thin strips of Swiss cheese(per individual bowl)! Delicious!
We do garlic butter shrimp but we put it over jasmine rice and it absorbs all that yummy liquid. Soo good. Y’all should try that next time !! It all looks so good. Thanks for sharing your recipes.
Hi Mandy! That pastina looked amazing and was very nostalgic for me! My parents are from Italy and my mom used to make that all the time for us when we were growing up. Next time you have to add parmesan or pecorino romano cheese to the top before eating, makes it even tastier. 😋
I made the Italian Penicillin Soup tonight. I used orzo since I had it in my pantry. It was so amazing! I cooked the pasta in the broth. Cooks quick and adds texture. Lordy I thought my cat was vocal. Gracie you are the Big Sister. Thanks Mandy.
Husband got sick with a croupy cough. Made the Italian penicillin soup and it made him feel better! Gave the recipe to our daughter and she loved it as well!
I just had major surgery and I asked my daughter to make this for me and YES you do feel batter after this soup! Thank you Mandy and Subbie supper recipe ♥️
Down south that’s a bbq shrimp that we use French bread to dip up all the sauce. I personally prefer to not put in rosemary which most recipes say to add…. I like how you did this!!
That soup is a good way to get kids to eat their vegetables. My Italian grandmother used to make pastina with milk and sugar for breakfast for us. When we make gumbo we peel the shrimp and boil the shells to use as stock for the gumbo.
I just love Gracie Lou.. I heard you say she is 20 years old... I had a fur baby named Cleo that lived to be 24.. We got her when she was 6 weeks old..
You keep the tails on because there is shrimp meat in the tail! I use the twins of my fork and crack open the shell, and eat that little super sweet little piece of shrimp. :)
Within an hour of you posting I made the beef & broccoli! YUM! I had everything but th sesame oil. It was delicious! Thanks for sharing! I was looking for something different and easy to make for dinner and this was perfect! Thanks so much! ❤
Leaving the tails on will help you grip the shrimp better. It will also give your dish extra flavor and moisture and make them look larger and more visually appealing. In addition, shrimp tails are beneficial to your health. Not only are the tails digestible, but they're rich in protein, fiber, iron, calcium, and vitamin B.
Im crazy about shrimp, and it is so quick and easy to cook, but the catch for me is the deveining. I buy shrimp already split for easy peeling and it always says its deveined but usually its only been partially, like one side is deveined, being aware of this it always takes alot of additionally teadious time. Does anyone else struggle with this too, and do you have any tips for better cleaning?😊
Yes, if I have to clear that "stuff" out then it's over for me. I only buy the kind where shell, tail and stuff is already gone and it's cooked already. 🚫🦐😄
I didn't have shellfish until i was 21 because my dad is very very allergic. My folks were scared i would be too. I finally tried it and love shrimp and scallops. I can't have them at home (I live with my folks). I'd love to try that recipe though.
You guys are so funny and brightened my day. Woke up with a sore throat and sniffles. Wish someone would bring me that soup!! 😂 We love shrimp over rice, going to try that. Thanks for more yummy recipes!! 💜
My mother was Italian and we made Italian penicillin with acini de pepi pasta from the Italian store and just chicken broth it always made us feel better! I like blending the veggies I will try that next time.

Yes. The shells add flavor.
AND they are great little handles to hold onto! 🤣🤣
Pro tip: when cutting asparagus, green onion, etc in a bunch, leave the rubber band on to keep the bunch together, much easier 👍
If you're going to eat the shrimp with your hands..leave the tail. If you're going to eat with a fork...lose the tails.

All the recipes look great 👍 the soup really got my attention 😋.
Blessings to you and your family❤
The meals look amazing! And I was so happy to see you have a playlist of air fryer meals 😉
We made the ground beef and broccoli tonight and it was absolutely delicious
Thank you for this one, I was having a down day and you and Steven made it alot better. I am trying the Air Fryer Asparagus recipe the way you did it, it looks so good. God Bless you all
Asking the Lord to lift your spirits. God bless you too😇.
I have the SAME trouble opening that brand of bullion that you do, especially if the bottle has been opened before and refrigerated. Run the grooved top/sides under hot tap water and VOILA! Opens instantly. Also, it cracks me up that there is a name brand of little pasta because mini pasta can be had for a tiny fraction of the cost in the Mexican section of the supermarket.
I love that Mexican pasta too! That's what I was thinking.
for flavor and easier to pick up. I used to get rid of the tail too!

Husband got sick with a croupy cough. Made the Italian penicillin soup and it made him feel better! Gave the recipe to our daughter and she loved it as well!
I have made oven french onion rice with stew beef on top with strips of green and red peppers on toptop. it is real good.
I just had major surgery and I asked my daughter to make this for me and YES you do feel batter after this soup! Thank you Mandy and Subbie supper recipe ♥️

When we make gumbo we peel the shrimp and boil the shells to use as stock for the gumbo.
I just love Gracie Lou.. I heard you say she is 20 years old... I had a fur baby named Cleo that lived to be 24.. We got her when she was 6 weeks old..
Mandy you and Steven crack me up. Love your videos. You make amazing food. 😊
You keep the tails on because there is shrimp meat in the tail! I use the twins of my fork and crack open the shell, and eat that little super sweet little piece of shrimp. :)
Hi Mandy! I made the Beef and Broccoli today for my family and it was absolutely delicious! Thanks so much for the recipes.
I love the video. My favorite, the middle finger at the air fryer. 😂 Love you guys! Happy weekend. B
Pastina is what my mom would always make when I was sick. So comforting! We also like it in chicken soup instead of noodles.
Within an hour of you posting I made the beef & broccoli! YUM! I had everything but th sesame oil. It was delicious! Thanks for sharing! I was looking for something different and easy to make for dinner and this was perfect! Thanks so much! ❤
My Better Than Bullion lid always sticks too! Drives me crazy. I just run it under hot water for a couple seconds and it comes off easy.
My little Italian Grandma used the same pasta when she made chicken soup but she always called it “Bird’s Eye” .
All the recipes look good.
Minus the shrimp.
Love soup.
I take the tells off unless they are fried, and sometimes then or if I'm making shrimp cocktail
The ground beef and broccoli looks so yummy! 😋
You can peel and slice the broccoli stem. It takes a little longer to cook than the florets.
Yes, no waste. I like the stems better than the flowers.
I never liked asparagus until I learned from Julia Child to peel the stems. Now I love it.
I was just thinking earlier today if there was a recipe that used ground beef and broccoli. Thanks!
Leaving the tails on will help you grip the shrimp better. It will also give your dish extra flavor and moisture and make them look larger and more visually appealing. I bet this would freeze great (without pasta). If brought to a boil from freezing, you could add pasta and cook.
Definitely going to have to make that Italian soup, it looks absolutely delicious
Love the Broccoli and ground beef recipe! ❤
I didn't have shellfish until i was 21 because my dad is very very allergic. My folks were scared i would be too. I finally tried it and love shrimp and scallops. I can't have them at home (I live with my folks). I'd love to try that recipe though.
I love your videos, you guys are little rays of sunshine! I'm a cat lady, I love Gracie and her cheese obsession. I can 100% identify with her 🧀

You guys are so funny and brightened my day. Woke up with a sore throat and sniffles. Wish someone would bring me that soup!! 😂 We love shrimp over rice, going to try that. Thanks for more yummy recipes!! 💜
Best kitchen tool ever is my Pampered Chef V-shaped jar opener that you mount under the upper cabinet. It’s great for an older lady. (Yours Truly!) 😂
I made your teriyaki tonight and entire family loved it!!! I made mine in instant pot with beef tips cut into smaller pieces :) the sauce was yummy!
When I make the pastina , I sprinkle grated cheese on top of it when it’s in the bowl !! Delish , yum

My mother was Italian and we made Italian penicillin with acini de pepi pasta from the Italian store and just chicken broth it always made us feel better! I like blending the veggies I will try that next time.
