My Lady Dusty would not sing to segregated audiences. #Class
She was !
Beatles would not either...most English acts would not. Ironic isn't it? segregated audiences however were a mornoic concept.
Her duet with Pet Shop Boys is outstanding
What a great collaboration. Love that tune.
Also, "Nothing Has Been Proved"
The best!!! Nothing better!!!
The Pet Shop Boys "What Have I Done To Deserve This" with Dusty Springfield 😊 Peace✌️ Gary😊
Our intrepid hosts have shown an affinity for songs with horns.
That song certainly fits the bill.
"I Only Want To Be With You" is my fav by Dusty.
Mine too. They reacted to that one already.
Mine as well! hope you had a great 4th.
yes please do the song with the Pet Shop Boys!
Yes definitely.
That's a great song but I really enjoy the song All I See Is You. She lets that beautiful voice soar.
Another British female singer from this era is Petula Clark. I don’t know if you have ever reacted to her. Her biggest hit was called Downtown but she had several other hits.
Yes! I was thinking of Petula the other day! Where would one even begin?
@@Earcandy73 I have requested her at least a few times. If she still gives interviews, that would be a great guest for them to do on their interviews.
They did Downtown 2 years ago. That's the only one of hers they've done so far.
They've reacted to her once. Predictably, Jay was underwhelmed.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Downtown_(Petula_Clark_album) Jimmy Page played on that album!
"The Look of Love" is another Dusty classic.
Possibly the sexiest song ever.
She was a big star in the 1960s I grew up with her music thanx for giving it a listen.
Jay & Amber, you'll love her "The Look Of Love" !!!
edit -like today's song, its written by Hal David (lyrics) and Burt Bacharach (music). "Wishin' And Hopin' " first recorded by Dionne Warwick 1962.
Burt loves workin' in those horns!
Yes
Gladys Knight did the best rendition of “ The look of love “ no other version comes even close .
Love Dusty but Gladys Knight does the best version of that song.
imo of course.
Her rendition of The Look of Love is her best song.
❤
Agree, it's sultry, smoky and sexy and has a great sax too.
You can't keep doing Female Fridays without honoring one of the truly great female singers of the late 60's/early 70's.....DIONNE WARWICK.
Totally agree. Can't believe they haven't done any of her hits.
Yes. Don't Make Me Over is one of my favorites!
What about Jackie DeShannon?????
Martha & the Vandellas?????
Dionne Warwick did the soundtrack for the movie...Valley of the Dolls....awesome!
Dusty Springfield did a duet with The Pet Shop Boys - "What have I done to deserve this?". It was a big hit.
I’ve loved Dusty since the 60’s along with Cilla Black and Petula Clark and Lulu.
Luv Lulu most popular song "To Sir with Love" excellent song to react to and then have the Movie on Rob Squad Movie channel starring Sir Sidney Potier.
@@longshank59 they reacted to that song two years ago
Once again , Amber hits the nail on the head. This was a different time but Amber gets the message. 😊
Good song.⭐ Dusty has had many great songs. RIP Dusty Springfield.💗🙏
This song was written by Burt Bacharach. Many of his songs were first sung by Dionne Warwick. Dionne sang it first but I love Dusty's version best.
Also Mr. Hal David
@@himaxize Yes Hal David was the lyricist. Bacharach wrote the music
Please do her take on "The Look of Love" where she shows her smoky, sultry voice.
Jay and Amber you have to listen to my all-time favorite Dusty Springfield song, her duet with the Pet Shop Boys, “What Have I Done to Deserve This”. Dusty is in her prime!
You will love 'Stay Awhile '..pure Dusty
You really must hear her singing “Son of a Preacher Man” and “The Look of Love.” To me, those are her two greatest songs.
Totally
They reacted to the first one.
@@steve-zk5zmthey just said they listened to Son of a Preacher Man !
"The look of Love" should be your next Dusty Springfield reaction.
Dusty was awesome and a BIG TIME party girl! Unfortunately, she died of cancer.
Love Dusty's music. She had such a cool voice, I remember other songs she sang and its unforunate she was not appreciated more back then. Blessing to all. Your faithful follower. 🫶👍💜💯🎼
You should check out her duet with Pet Shop Boys "What Have I Done to Deserve This".
This song was huge in high school bc of the fil Amy Best Friends Wedding.
Check out Dusty's cover of the Van Morrison classic - Tupelo Honey as well as The Pet Shop Boys - What Have I Done To Deserve This on which Dusty sang.
she was such a great talent
I love this singer from the 60s.! Her voice was so awesome. ❤
Another wonderful Burt Bacharach-Hal David song! They knew how to find the most stellar women to interpret their work! You should review her rendition of Carole King’s “Goin’ Back” which was the B Side of “You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me” (In the UK). After that, you should try Carole’s version.
Her cover of Anyone Who Had A Heart is my personal favorite.
Great to see another Dusty song, one of the UK's best female vocalists. She was also responsible for introducing Motown music to the UK , which people went on to love. 'In the middle of nowhere' is another good one-Colin Ward
Try " l Only Want to be With You" and "What Have l Done to Deserve This" a song she sings with the Pet Shop Boys.
Son of a Preacher Man will always be my favorite. Ms. Joss Stone has done absolute KILLER versions of it.
Ms Joss is Stone cold. 😇
this is a LOVE song
No one ever sounded like the great Dusty.
My Best Friends Wedding. 💒
Haven't heard this in a while. Thank you for reminding me!
Big blonde hair! Girl could sing!
Dusty's rendition of *"The Windmills of Your Mind"* is simply outstanding.
'Wishin & Hopin' was earlier in her career, before she went to record the LP 'Dusty In Memphis'. *(In November 1968, during the Memphis sessions, Springfield suggested to Wexler (one of the heads of Atlantic Records) that he should sign the newly formed UK band Led Zeppelin.)* So there's THAT!
Matter of fact, I'm gonna listen to *"The Windmills of Your Mind"* right after this post is done. It's THAT good!
MAN, AMBER!! GREAT PICKS, TODAY, for FEMALE FRIDAY!!! ALL of them are some of my FAVORITE PERFORMERS!! LOVE Dusty Springfield!! I always thought she was just SO PRETTY, when I was a little girl....THANKS for these AWESOME TUNES, TODAY!! HAPPY FRIDAY, YA'LL!!! HUGS!!
Love All her Hits from the day. Just takes Me back! Great Reaction You Guys! :)
So i ran across you two today and went down memory lane. So glad to be born in the 50’s and growing up with most of your play list.
I just love about anything Dusty. This is such a great song. It was one of my favorites to listen years ago, on the job, over the PA system. As you guys point out, it just has such a cool vibe. Such a legend.
Damn, I always loved this song and remember it from my mom listening to the "oldies" station back in the 80's, but I always assumed it was a Motown song. I never knew it was Dusty!
This is the first song i heard by her, way, way back❤
A Memorable Song from an incredible period in music history, a cover that went to #6 on Billboard during Beatlemania and The British Invasion, such a time! :)
They used this as opening in mivie "My best friend's wedding ", hilarious 😂
Dusty was first-wave British invasion along with Beatles. Love the soul she puts into her voice on the bridge.
This song is one of Dusty's early classics from 1964
One of my favorite female artist of all time! I started listening to her to her early on and was very sad when she passed rest in peace you are not forgotten❤
More Dusty you guys haven't checked out yet: "Breakfast in Bed", "Just a Little Lovin'", "The Look of Love", "Little By Little", and "The Windmills of Your Mind".
Wonderful
Just amazingly beautiful thanks yall
Dusty Springfields brother Tom Springfield wrote the Seekers i'll never find another You.
We had that song played at my Mum's funeral. X
@@deannebeech5249 Sorry about the loss of your Mum, May she rest in peace.
Dusty is one of my favorite vocalists of the 60s. Listen to "What Are You Doing With the Rest of Your Life". Wow.
I love her voice. That huskiness. One of my fave female voices in pop.
My favorite song of hers is "the look of love". She'll melt you with that one!
This song reminds me of My Best Friend's Wedding with Julia Roberts. Fun movie!
Yes! Came here to say the same. I can’t believe they haven’t reacted to My Best Friends Wedding. Love that movie so much!
Thanks for another Dusty Springfield reaction. For the many of you who are listening to her music for the first time here is a complete list of her best songs
which are many. I've been listening to Dusty's music since her first hit "I Only Want To Be With You" came out in 1963. 1) Stay Awhile 2) You Don't Have To Say
You Love Me 3) Anyone Who Had A Heart 4) You Don't Own Me 5) I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself 7) Son Of A Preacher Man 6) The Corrupt Ones
7) The Sweet Ride 8) What Have I Done To Deserve This 9) Nothing Has Been Proved 10) Arrested By You 11) In Private 12) Reputation. Enjoy newbies!
Great reaction from y’all 👏🏻🥰‼️
There is no one like Dusty. She had a big voice and big HAIR. But her phrasing, her tone, and her ability to sing R & B, pop, even jazz was phenomenal. She was big in the 60s and 70s...then she partnered with The Pet Shop Boys for a couple of songs and she reinvented herself.
There is so much more to Dusty. When Aretha met Dusty, she put her hand on Dusty’s shoulder and just said “Giiiirllll”. Highest honour. She had a ton of hits that others haven’t mentioned. I Just Don’t Know What to Do With Myself is a must. And I Don’t Want to Hear It Anymore is so soulful. So many more.
Very 60’s vibe. Love it.❤
Amber, don't forget one fine Friday to feature the fabulous artist Jewel with her fantastic song, "Foolish Games:! You will be flummoxed I feel!!
What have I done to deserve this, was her comeback with The Pet Shop Boys. Huge hit in 1986
So many Dusty classics! Close My Eyes And count To Ten is another great one!
Petula Clark please. A giant star in Britain, France and the USA.
This Canadian loves her too! ❤
Heather Headly sings the most beautiful song. She is soulful and the message is beautiful and a wonderful song about togetherness.
“He is “
beautiful song
Simply fell in love with her. Still do. Thank you.
"The Look of Love" is one of my favorite songs by her.
Yes . . . Dionne! Start with one of her earliest: “I Smiled Yesterday.”
Such a great voice.Just a wonderful lady. Sultry
Hi Guys greetings from England 🇬🇧 you should check out Dusty and The Pet Shop Boys singing "What have I Done To Deserve This" its a great song!!!
Love you two, your the best. !!!!!
The hardest working couple in show business! Thanks for all the music.
This is the song I sing to my dogs when they come into the kitchen when I’m cooking.
Because they are wishing & hoping & thinking & dreaming & praying that I’ll drop something
I can't believe after all this time you have not hit Petula Clark. she is a British ICON from the 60's.and still performing even though she is pushing 90 years old. you could not turn on the radio in the mid 60's without hearing her. she has a catalogue of great songs. her biggest was "Downtown". others were "sign of the times", and "Don't sleep in the Subway Darling" you talk about powerhouse female singers, your list will never be complete until you hit her!
Speaking’s of Brits, have you heard of Lulu? She did a great song called “To Sir, With Love” from the great movie “Blackboard Jungle” starring Sidney Poitier, one of the best black actors of all time. Lulu was in the movie too, and sang the song to Sidney at the end (I think it was at the end? Someone correct me if I’m wrong). Also, Lulu was married to Bee Gee twin Maurice (Morris) Gibb for a short time. Note: The movie is “To Sir, With Love”, not “Blackboard Jungle”, though Sidney co-starred in that movie.
Yes they have and they reacted to Sir with Love not to long after Sidney Poitier’s death. But the name of the movie is To Sir with Love from 1967. Blackboard Jungle is another film all together from the 1950’s.
They did To Sir, With Love (the song) 2 years ago. They haven't seen the movie, though.
@@elizabethfranco1284 … Thanks 😊! I’m always getting those mixed up, even though I should know the song is the title of the movie. Never used to do stuff like that when I was younger. Will correct my post.
Yall always drop bangers ❤,even oldies amazing
This song is such an earworm that as recently as this century did I sing, to my darlin', a version that went: "All you've gotta do is s--- him and f--- him...and on and on." Thankfully met with a sense of humor. Still alive. Once in a mountain restaurant with my papa, a mini jukebox was at the edge of the table, and I played this song.
Nice!
If one wanted to, one could interpret this as a sexist song, but it's really not. It's about being active, rather than passive. It encourages women to get up and do something and make it happen, rather than just waiting for it to happen. Let's face it: It really isn't that hard to win over a man. But you do have to put some effort in.
I just discovered that Dusty Springfield & Daryl Hall, sang a duet song after the ending of the movie, "While You Were Sleeping". Her vocals are more expressive than her earlier songs. Though her earlier vocals fit the type of songs that she did. With Daryl Hall, her vocals are very strong & she shines.
In the late 60's when I was in grade school, we would hear this song in the car everytime we went shopping with our Mom for new school clothes. This and "Downtown" by Petulia Clark.
The 45 of this became the very first record I ever bought~ I rode my bike a long way to get it ~ even some of those early Beatles records could not compete
If you have a record collection, you need to have Dusty's greatest hits. So many good songs. Dusty was special.
One of my favorite memories: 1969 - On R&R or leave from the Viet. War (took both in Sydney, Australia, 1 wk. each) took a local girl to a dinner theater where Dusty Springfield was the headliner. I had only 1 or 2 mos. left in my tour of duty then back to "The World". Short timer!
You have to think of the times this was written…but really it still happens.
I was the one to play at school in dorm when someone got engaged we would sing her song about true love. Memories!❤❤we would have a candle passing around in the hallway and would end up with the engaged one!❤
Thank you for sharing this song. Love Dusty Springfield. The music back then was sung from the heart -- it had to be! Oh btw, I love your shirts. lol.
Kathie says… I love Dusty!!! This one was from 1964. Please listen to GIRL DON’T COME, by SANDY SHAW (1964) from Britain ❤️❤️❤️
One of my favourite Dusty songs. The Merseybeats did an excellent version of this too. Reached No.13 in the UK in 1964. Dusty's version was a hit in the USA.
Why the heck am I not getting notification? As a Latina, i knew most people don’t listen to this type of music. I did and I loved it! Keep doing what you do.
Sometimes notifications just cancel out. Sometimed I have to 're-subscribe'. Be sure to answer 'All' after you ring the bell. Then you'll be alerted of any one they post. Unless of course you do have a preference.
Dusty Springfield had alot of great songs sing right along with her
"Wives and Lovers" was a popular crooner song by Jack Jones in 1963. It had a similar message for the wives.
“Dusty in Memphis” is one of my favorite albums of all time. It’s what “Preacher Man” is from.
A beautiful song of hers is Windmills of Your Mind! You will love it!
Next you need to listen to Petula Clark, another great British artist ! " two rivers " " don't sleep in the subway " " Downtown "
Another British Artist guys 🇬🇧🙂
From Another Jay 😎
Dusty Springfield went through a LOT and I mean a *LOT* of hairspray. She later in life said, "I used so much hairspray that I feel personally responsible for global warming!” Ronnie Spector always said Dusty was one soulful woman and that she would always give her just a little extra blast of hairspray!
Aquanet was her jam!!
Here is another Female Friday suggestion I made in the past, that is jazz royalty; Nancy Wilson. “Guess who I saw today” is a great song with a great story and a surprising ending. You will ask where she has been as well.
Best version of this is live in ready steady go,Motown special.
Dusty Springfield ,with Martha and the vVandellas, singing this song together in1965
Please, her "Windmills of Your Mind" is a must!
Head for Dusty's classic "Dusty In Memphis" album, loaded with great songs (which included "Son Of A Preacher Man")
"So Much Love" "Don't Forget About Me" "No Easy Way Out."
Along with Dionne Warwick, Dusty was one of the finest interpreters of the classic music by Burt Bacharach and Hal David.
