i prefer alien for it's atmosphere it creates, but i prefer aliens for doing what a good sequel should and BUILD AND EXPAND the franchise, not just rehash the first movie. so i respect the first one for sort of being a horror in space classic, while i respect the second one for being an action film with REALLY intense moments... so i guess i can say i love them both equally for what they are
Yup, exactly. It had a reasonable and logical conclusion to the themes of terror, corporatism, Ripley, the original alien, etc. It wasn't a movie just to sell toys, although it did. It was mostly concerned about the story and realism.

CrispyCucaracha i prefer the no music. Im not saying music wouldnt have been cool, but i just feel its no much more intense when the only sounds are the sounds of them fighting!
the original alien is good and suspenseful, but aliens in my opinion was better it had more action some suspense thrown in all round great sequel. My fav line was when hicks pulled the shotty out for close encounters
Looking back, In these videos from 2012 Jeremy looks so tired and in these new ones this year he looks so fresh. it's like all of these years have been a morning to him
Alien and Aliens are both masterpieces and I love them both for different reasons. To me, Aliens was just as suspenseful and terrifying as the original, but with some awesome action and better characters. The characters in Alien were good, don't get me wrong, but I just liked the ones in the sequel more, especially Hicks and Hudson (Michael Beihn and Bill Paxton) and Ripley was a total badass. Even Newt was a cool character, and that's not something you say a lot about children in movies. So yeah, I'm definitely an "Aliens" guy!
When I was a wee bairn, Aliens Special Edition was on TV when Alien 3 was coming out. Now, I'd seen a bit of Alien (ran screaming from the room when we met the Chestburster and didn't go back) so I had practically no idea of what was coming. I'd set up an old VHS tape to record it (school night) so I could watch it the next day. Insert tape, play. Almost three hours later ... Ripley is back on the ship. She's got Hicks, bandaged; Newt is sleeping. She smiles, turns to Bishop - then Bishop acts funny. Then he goes into a seizure. Milky stuff is spraying everywhere ... Ripley tries to keep her friend Bishop together ... then suddenly his top half flies to one end of the shuttle bay, the lower half flies to the other ... the Queen steps down, snarls at Ripley .... ... then my 180min VHS tape runs out. This, kids, is why we don't pirate. Because the goddamn commercials always stretched shit out longer than your tape could record.
I prefer Aliens a wee bit more, mostly because it does exactly what a sequel needed to do. The fist was claustrophbic, with everyday-people standing no chance against a killing-machine. And when its over you think: Geez, if only they had some rifles on board the Nostromo etc... Then we get rifles, grenades, tanks etc, and those badass-marines get simpyl ripped apart by the xenos. And the movie still got that great horror-atmosphere, great characters like Vasquez, Hudson, Ghorman etc...it just puts alien on level two in every aspect...and I trly hope the new sequel-reboot (or whatever you can cool that) doesn't fuck it up like 3 + 4 did ...
The set, mechanical, and sound designs were incredible. Pulse rifles, dropships, troop carrier are still the coolest pieces of ScFi hardware ever made.
i once stayed up past my parents watching tv when i was a kid (like 6 or 7 years old) Aliens was just starting so my curiosity drove me to watch it. 2 or 3 hours later my mum walks into the lounge room to go to the kitchen for a drink and she sees me there watching the credits. i turned to look at her and i swear at that moment you could just see my childhood innocence just seep out. i got to say, Aliens: best sci-fi movie ever
I´m sorry to say that - but i´m an Alien(s)-Person - i don´t prefer one of both movies, i really love them both for what they are. Alien as the Space-Slasher-Horror that it is in a really perfect way with all its slow pacing, the burst-out-action-moments and the great characters. And Aliens as the Space-Action-Horror with all its perfect actionscenes, the great one-liners and the badassness of Ripley. I just love them both.
While I do love Scott's Alien, I've always been an Aliens person myself, and James Cameron is my favourite director. The man is a maestro. He wrote and directed this film, did the storyboarding, designed the Alien Queen, hired his close friend Stan Winston to build it, and made what is still to this day one of the strongest film sequels made to date (just as he wrote and directed another, that being T2).
The problem with Newt though is that although the film establishes her to be really smart as she knows her way through the ducts, every scene with her in the finale is her just standing still screaming like every character in every horror movie ever, she is just incredibly annoying.
Wong Chris I doubt she was in shock because when Ripley first found her I would describe that as being shock. It's certainly possible that it's her first time seeing a zenomorph up close but it's also quite possible that she had already seen what was going on which is why she was hiding. She did mention that they come out at night which means that she has probably seen them before..
Kolbe i would like to point out that that place she was in at the end she had never bin in before, she dosent know the terrain or where anything leads to, so yes i think its better to scream than run away to god knows where and more than likely get lost, caught, and chestbursted ... jst saying
I am am Aliens woman. Michael Biehn was my first teenage crush lol. He is a lovely guy. I met him the same weekend I met Cary Elwes. I've also met the actors who played Fero and Drake. It will always be one of my favourite films.
Just watched both films back-to-back (these reviews sparked my interest; don't know that I would have queued them up otherwise). Definitely an *ALIENS* person. It was awesometacular.
-I like horror movies so I prefer Alien (Awesometacular). -Aliens is a good movie but I don't like it to much because it is an action movie not a horror movie... When I see this movie I imagine James Cameron taking a shit on Ridley Scott's face and on his amazing movie Alien (good time no alcohol required) -Alien 3 is just like going back to the original Alien style, only one alien, and no guns, but much worst than the original. (good time no alcohol required) -Alien Resurrection I watched it once and I kinda liked it... but I don't think i'm going to watch it again...(good time no alcohol required but maybe some alcohol could help...)
Aliens, all the way. This was just one of the numerous bangers Cameron was kickin' out in the 80's and 90's. Terminator, True Lies, Aliens, Abyss-James Cameron just couldn't miss!
Love both of them. Aliens = one of the best action movies ever made imo Alien = One of the best (if not the best) horror movies ever made imo. I lean a bit more towards Alien tbh because that movie blew my mind. Beautiful cinematography, great world building, excellent atmosphere and great characters. It's perfect.
Aliens is one of the best Action and Science Fiction films ever. Alien, however, vies with John Carpenter's The Thing as THE best Horror and Science Fiction movie ever. I saw both in the theater as a kid, and when all was said and done I preferred Aliens. Nowadays, though, I strongly believe Alien is the better of the two (although I could sit through more repeated watchings of Aliens).
I dislike choosing between the two, because both films are extraordinary in their own right, but like you, I also watched "Aliens" first, and as such, it has a special place in my heart. I love the details and consistency of the world it creates.
GCSI - Official Channel sorry Predator is a better film than the alien franchise. Its a better deconstruction of its type of film and equal horror and action.
Finally watched both back-to-back, and I gotta say I prefer Alien. To me, the slow-burn pacing and tighter, more natural dialogue of the original makes it a far superior film. Doesn't make Aliens a bad film. Not at all. It's definitely still a 10/10.
By the way Jeremy, my first Aliens experience is similar to yours because I was flipping through the channels on my T.V. and I saw the seen where Bishop goes outside to fix that dish in order to pilot the second fighter and they had to cut a hole in a pipe and when I saw Aliens in full, I remembered that scene I saw when I was younger. Overall, great movie is a no alcohol required film.
Both, I have em on VHS and now on DVD ain't gonna stop collecting Aliens gear, but I treat Alien and Aliens as a 2 part story of terror, action and absolute badassery
Aliens person--no ? while the first one is preferable to watch first to establish the story this one takes it to another level and delves deep into the culture of the Aliens themselves. Weaver is kickass as Ripley the marines are believable and also kickass and I could recite from memory probably the entire script. Full of action for a movie made in 1986 it still stands up to anything made today (Michael Bay WTF is wrong with u) Ripleys final descent into the nest is quite possibly the best 14 minutes in cinematic history
Just saw Alien and Aliens within the last couples weeks. Loved all three, Aliens is my favorite of the two. Hell, it's probably one of my favorite movies of all time now.
+Jeremy Jahns, I think this two movies are real lessons on how to make astonishing films. Sigourney Weaver had a performance in Aliens that only can be compared with that of Linda Hamilton in Terminator 2: The Judgment Day. The fight with the alien queen is simply a piece of art. After you watch that movies you get an excellent point of reference to judge the nowadays horror movies.
I'm 36 and finally watched Aliens so of course I'm going to see if Jeremy ever did a review. I loved the climax but most of the film was lackluster for me. Just like the first one, sigourney weavers acting was super stiff, except in the original it made more sense because her character was built up til the end where she finally breaks out of her shell and becomes a badass. The original is definitely the best out of the franchise for me as it has great suspense from start to finish.
Funny how people were saying we know very little about the predator (while reviewing predator 1and2) but what do we really know about the aliens? Critics were having a problem with that issue with the predator movies. But I like that its a mystery. Keeps it more interesting.
I prefer the original because of the suspense. The scene in that tunnel where you don't actually see but you know it's there on the scanner, and it's getting closer and closer. You don't experience tension like that in movies today. When it comes to the series as a whole, I enjoyed all of them...though I'd admit the best thing about 3 was the score
I just saw both the movies! I gotta say that I liked both equally. if i had to watch one of them again, like right now, I would watch alien. aliens has its own charm but something about alien is just thriling!
I'm with you, Jeremy. I watched this with my dad when I was about 7 years old, and this movie had me hooked. I've always had a crush on Sigourney Weaver since this movie too haha. Even now, at her age, she looks hot haha.Anyways, I'm surprised you didn't mention one of the most iconic sounds, the pulse rifle. And the famous "last stand, badass" moments with Hudson swearing and killing before he gets dragged in the vents. All in all, I'm an Aliens guy, but truly appreciate the Alien movie as well.
I will never be able to choose. I love both just as much. They're so different, but absolutely bad-ass at what they're trying to achieve! Alien and Aliens, two of the best movies ever made.
I watched the Alien movies all out of order. It went like this: Aliens, Alien: Resurrection, Alien 3, Alien, Alien vs. Predator, Prometheus. I enjoyed them all though. PS. If you ever to to Walt Disney World and go into the Hollywood Studios park and you're an Alien fan, ride The Great Movie Ride. Trust me. You'll have fun during this one part.
Ripley in the first Alien movie is very similar to Ash from the first Evil Dead, where they’re not really the badass characters we know and love them as yet, when you think of Ash Williams you think of Evil Dead 2 and Army Of Darkness, and when you think of Ellen Ripley you think of Aliens, so this movie really elevated her character
I just watched Aliens today for the first time and I gotta say I agree with Jeremy in both cases; Alien GTNAR and Aliens Awesometacular. Can't wait for Covenant

TBV121 ... damn it man thats exactly what i was thinking the first time i saw it, it was still a badass fight scene, but jesus jst a little track in there woulda made it 100x better IMO
I'm sure there is some room to debate that, whether that would accomplish anything is another story.
CrispyCucaracha i prefer the no music. Im not saying music wouldnt have been cool, but i just feel its no much more intense when the only sounds are the sounds of them fighting!
my favorite movie of all times ....I prefer Aliens over alien..."Game over man"
Great movie. I rewatched all alien/predator and avp movies lately. Alien and aliens are the best and so different to
Yeah I'm weird. I prefer Aliens over Alien, but I prefer Predator over Predator 2. They are both the best in their respective franchises.
Agreed
Everyone prefers Predator over Predator 2
the original alien is good and suspenseful, but aliens in my opinion was better it had more action some suspense thrown in all round great sequel. My fav line was when hicks pulled the shotty out for close encounters
Looking back, In these videos from 2012 Jeremy looks so tired and in these new ones this year he looks so fresh. it's like all of these years have been a morning to him
I am definitely a more of an "ALIENS" person. It was also my favorite movie out of the Alien Anthology. :)
I wish Cameron was making more movies like this instead on constantly blabbing on the 3D bandwagon.
The set, mechanical, and sound designs were incredible. Pulse rifles, dropships, troop carrier are still the coolest pieces of ScFi hardware ever made.
1:28 Sarah Conner in Terminator 2
My thoughts exactly I almost commented that but checked to see if someone else did it first 😂
Alien/Aliens
Alien3
The Room
Troll 2
Alien resurrection
i once stayed up past my parents watching tv when i was a kid (like 6 or 7 years old) Aliens was just starting so my curiosity drove me to watch it. 2 or 3 hours later my mum walks into the lounge room to go to the kitchen for a drink and she sees me there watching the credits. i turned to look at her and i swear at that moment you could just see my childhood innocence just seep out. i got to say, Aliens: best sci-fi movie ever
1:33, Sarah Conner.
*Connor
+dntm123 Nah
Thanks to James Cameron.
Beatrix Kiddo
you need to do a alien3 review now that would be awesometacular
I´m sorry to say that - but i´m an Alien(s)-Person - i don´t prefer one of both movies, i really love them both for what they are. Alien as the Space-Slasher-Horror that it is in a really perfect way with all its slow pacing, the burst-out-action-moments and the great characters. And Aliens as the Space-Action-Horror with all its perfect actionscenes, the great one-liners and the badassness of Ripley. I just love them both.
"You cant think of a more badass chick in a movie"
Umm Sarah Connor in T2?.
Imperator Furiosa
Hit-Girl?
The Bride.
Ripley is better than them all.
Alien for me.
Alien>Aliens
The problem with Newt though is that although the film establishes her to be really smart as she knows her way through the ducts, every scene with her in the finale is her just standing still screaming like every character in every horror movie ever, she is just incredibly annoying.
Wong Chris Not when the film showed that she had managed to survive by herself, all of a sudden she can't do anything.
Wong Chris That's what I'm saying though, she doesn't run, she stands there and screams, no attempt to run at all when she has clearly done it before.
Wong Chris I doubt she was in shock because when Ripley first found her I would describe that as being shock. It's certainly possible that it's her first time seeing a zenomorph up close but it's also quite possible that she had already seen what was going on which is why she was hiding.
She did mention that they come out at night which means that she has probably seen them before..
smart =/= self control when a huge ass alien is about to kill you
Kolbe i would like to point out that that place she was in at the end she had never bin in before, she dosent know the terrain or where anything leads to, so yes i think its better to scream than run away to god knows where and more than likely get lost, caught, and chestbursted ... jst saying
I am am Aliens woman. Michael Biehn was my first teenage crush lol. He is a lovely guy. I met him the same weekend I met Cary Elwes. I've also met the actors who played Fero and Drake. It will always be one of my favourite films.
Team Aliens-who's with me?
AvP Requiem best film EVER! FACT
Fact? Ive never seen it but the Jamaican Looking Predalien. Made it look amazing.
i was being sarcastic lol its god awful!!!
Andrew Miller I know. I was too because personally having a Jamaican Alien already told me it was awful.
lol that film is just an abomination, all copies need putting in2 a rocket and shot in2 the sun!
Andrew Miller SPARE THE JAMAICAN ALIEN LET IT RUN FREE.
When I see this movie I imagine James Cameron taking a shit on Ridley Scott's face and on his amazing movie Alien (good time no alcohol required)
-Alien 3 is just like going back to the original Alien style, only one alien, and no guns, but much worst than the original. (good time no alcohol required)
-Alien Resurrection I watched it once and I kinda liked it... but I don't think i'm going to watch it again...(good time no alcohol required but maybe some alcohol could help...)
I'm an Alien guy!
Aliens, all the way. This was just one of the numerous bangers Cameron was kickin' out in the 80's and 90's. Terminator, True Lies, Aliens, Abyss-James Cameron just couldn't miss!
Alien!
Love both of them.
Aliens = one of the best action movies ever made imo
Alien = One of the best (if not the best) horror movies ever made imo.
I lean a bit more towards Alien tbh because that movie blew my mind. Beautiful cinematography, great world building, excellent atmosphere and great characters. It's perfect.
Aliens is just the better film.
Aliens all the way.
Aliens may be one of the best sequels of all time, but you just can't beat the claustrophobic thrills of Alien
I dislike choosing between the two, because both films are extraordinary in their own right, but like you, I also watched "Aliens" first, and as such, it has a special place in my heart. I love the details and consistency of the world it creates.
'Alien' and 'Aliens' are two of the best movies in the world. Much better than 'Predator'. Who else agrees?
umm...... good for you
GCSI - Official Channel sorry Predator is a better film than the alien franchise. Its a better deconstruction of its type of film and equal horror and action.
I consider Predator to be their spiritual successor. John McTiernan's 2nd best film after Die Hard.
And "brundlefly".
Both, I have em on VHS and now on DVD ain't gonna stop collecting Aliens gear, but I treat Alien and Aliens as a 2 part story of terror, action and absolute badassery
saw this movie back in '86 at the movie theater, LOVED IT!!!! Way better for me, then the first one.
I also love the fact that Jeanette Goldstein is in Both Aliens and Terminator 2 (the woman with the smartgun and the foster mom in T2)
my mom let me watch it when I was 8. sorry, Jeremy. and I got to see it tonight on the big screen. it was fantastic. truly amazing.
The pulse rifle sound, THE PULSE RIFLE SOUND!
I'm more of an Alien dude myself, but Aliens still kicks ass.
One of my fondest memories was seeing the Aliens cast reunite at COMiCPALOOZA. Who knew Bill Paxton and Paul Reiser were such funny guys.
Funny how people were saying we know very little about the predator (while reviewing predator 1and2) but what do we really know about the aliens? Critics were having a problem with that issue with the predator movies. But I like that its a mystery. Keeps it more interesting.
A man after my own heart. But James Cameron action movies always float my boat.
I'm an alien person, aliens had great action but I loved the suspense
1:33 The Bride from Kill Bill, Furiosa, Sarah Connor, the chick from Avatar (NOT the last airbender), and Black Widow.
I just saw both the movies! I gotta say that I liked both equally. if i had to watch one of them again, like right now, I would watch alien. aliens has its own charm but something about alien is just thriling!
RIPLEY: "Hudson! This little girl survived longer than that with no weapons or training".
HUDSON: "Well why don't you put her in charge"?!!
Jeremy can you do the Alien Anthology blu-ray review?
Ripley in the first Alien movie is very similar to Ash from the first Evil Dead, where they’re not really the badass characters we know and love them as yet, when you think of Ash Williams you think of Evil Dead 2 and Army Of Darkness, and when you think of Ellen Ripley you think of Aliens, so this movie really elevated her character
I just watched Aliens today for the first time and I gotta say I agree with Jeremy in both cases; Alien GTNAR and Aliens Awesometacular. Can't wait for Covenant
