    "An alliance once existed between elves and men. Long ago, we fought, and died together. We come to honor that allegiance."

    For me, the one scene in this movie that got it for me, more than Gandalf fighting the balrog and Gollum arguing with Smeagol, was when Theoden is talking to Gandalf about burying his son, Theodred. "No parent should ever have to bury their child." Very haunting because it showed just how much this war had cost them and that the people were in serious need of hope.

That'd make me the Milli Vanilli of impersonations....you guys don't remember Milli Vanilli....well, they were 2 guys- ok, they don't matter. Point is, yes it's me. Glad you liked it! One thing I thought they nailed before the Helms Deep battle was the sense of hopelessness before the fight. You feel the fear that Aragorn and the people of Helms Deep are going through. That was really heavy and very well done.

    I find it strange how throughout all three movies not a single actor in these movies won an award for Best Actor... Viggo Mortensen and Andy Serkis spring to mind immediately but even Sean Astin was terrific in all three films

    • @eowynsalvador6664

      Yet when I watch this movie I sort of see the main characters as being Frodo and Sam and the Supporting characters being the rest of the Fellowship. In fact Aragorn should probably be listed as a main character due to how much his story influences the events of the story

    As a soldier one of the things I always admired about Tolkien was the slowness of waiting and preparing that is realistic in war. The very parts you want to hurry up are the very parts that make the Two Towers awesome. War is a lot of hurry up and wait...then sudden death...fog of war...injury...blood and guts and pure terror. Tolkien got it right.

I didn't want that to happen, but when they came in lunging rocks, and stepping on Uruk-hai, it was fuckin awesome. I remember getting so sad when I saw one caught on fire by an Uruk, and was so damn happy when I saw it get cleansed by the water from the dam...

    The reason for the slowing of the pace with the walking trees was to intensify the frustration in terms of the need for them to get involved in the fight.
    People were dying whilst they were fussing about whether or not to take action.
    The Lord of the Rings was written in the shadow of Nazism and World War 2. This scene in particular is a direct reflection of Britain fighting the Nazis alone and trying to get the American's involved.

    • @tSp289
      @tSp289 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am fairly sure he had at least one son in the military at that time as well. I know from my grandfather just how frustrated and angry Britain was at the time, and how perversely relieved they were by Pearl Harbor.

      Lmar daggerwolf Firstly, try for full sentences. Second, no. He wrote some of his earliest poems and stuff during WWI, but LotR was written in the 1930s and '40s

    • @tSp289
      @tSp289 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lmar daggerwolf I don't need to look it up, I know already. And I also know that the climate leading up to and throughout WW2 influenced LotR, not least because at least one of his sons was serving in that war. That documentary is pretty basic and misses 90% of the context.

    Samwise Gamgee is the real hero of LOTR. Also, Tolkien intended the ents parts to be slow.

    Two Towers is just as awesome as Fellowship, imo. The scene where Gandalf overpowers Saruman is my favorite scene, but the Battle of Helm's Deep is right under it. Jeremy, your Gollum voice was PERFECT, brother. Gollum is fucking awesome! And so is Two Towers!

    It's funny how comparing books to movie, a lot of things were moved around, but little changes. For example, the battle in which Boromir died was moreover a small skirmish, and was in the second book, and Helms Deep had very very little in the book.

    • @andrewdockrill
      @andrewdockrill 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes but or cinematic purposes they had to change it for obvious epic reasons.

    • @brianmulhair3478
      @brianmulhair3478 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Obviously, for general interest in cinema they had to. I was just noting how they, for the most part stayed accurate to the books, if you watch all in sequence, but not on their own.

    • @louisplatten7833
      @louisplatten7833 10 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I think that having Boromir die in the first film was a better judgement by the filmmakers because it gives an emotional edge to the climax rather than just having Frodo and Sam leave.

    • @carson3223able
      @carson3223able 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's because the books were written as one so the end of fellowship isn't actually a climax, so boromirs death was moved to serve as a conclusion and the battle in which he died was a small skirmish but the battle of helms deep was huge in the books but was in the middle for the films narrative structure was changed so both the frodo Sam and aragorn storyline were told at the same time instead of separate parts but helms deep was actually even bigger in the book than the movie

    • @brianmulhair3478
      @brianmulhair3478 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've read the books and I know why they did it. I was just commenting on how the movies on their own aren't accurate to the book, but when watched in sequence they are.

      It has the greatest movie scene in the history of cinema.
      The wolves of Isengard scene.
      It's the only scene in a movie that has made me shed a tear.
      The movie score, the stakes, the commotion, the charge, the fight, the thought of losing Aragorn etc.
      I've seen that particular scene like a million times... and I always shed a tear.

    I laugh every time the Eant are attacking the fortress. Because at one point when the damn releases all the water. One of the Eant comes running up, head ablaze, like it about to tackle someone, and just shoves it's head into the oncoming water.

  • @Hannibal953able

    The last scene were Golem plots his revenge with the Ring half of him and the ensuing song which plays (called Golem's song) after he says, "Long ways to go yet, follow me", the camera pans out on a shot of Mordor ahead. That was awesometacular on it's own. Sends chills up my spine each time I hear it. Plus when I saw it for the first time in Dublin, it was the only film I have ever been to were the entire audience applauded like the end of a concert. It is a moment I will never forget.

    The Two Towers was a wonderful movie. I loved the introduction of Eowyn and the subtleties of Wormtongue. I always loved the scenes with Treebeard. Yes they were extremely slow and dragging, but that in itself enhanced the movie as a whole.
