+TheForceOfMusic101 that line always bothered me too, but this makes sense. 8 years of thinking where the hell is gordon getting his facts from have been resolved :D
+Roddy Rod The conversation Batman and Jim Gordon are having is about the chaos that will ensue as a result of 5 people getting murdered by the District Attorney, Harvey Dent. If Harvey Dent died without killing anyone, the city would lose a decent man of the law, but all the criminals that were locked up by Dent would stay locked up. However, hearing about the death of 5 people by Dent's hands would have all the criminals they threw in prison released, and throw Gotham back into Chaos just as the Joker had planned. The line "Whatever chance you gave us of fixing our city dies with Harvey's reputation" is referencing this. "5 dead, 2 of them cops" is Jim Gordon asking Batman how can keep Harvey's murders a secret when there are 5 people dead, 2 of which are cops. Therefore, Harvey is not one of the 5 people.
"best super hero movie? no." And what is the best "super hero" movie, then? "best batman movie? no." And what is the best Batman movie, then? "best sequel ever? hell no." Considering the amount of recognition it got, it's definitely among the best sequels ever made. And I'm talking about legit classics, like Empire Strikes Back, T2, and Two Towers.
Avi Kid it was a Christopher Nolan movie produced by DC there were no writers, screen players or directors from DC.... Saying that DC made the dark knight is like saying marvel made the x men movies
this is easily one of the best movies of all time. phenomenal dialogues. amazing acting by everyone. one of the best villains ever. extremely re-watchable. great themes. visually so good. brilliant score.
For me, this is still the best superhero movie ever. There have been some really good superhero movies since this one was released, but none has had a screenplay, performances, and lasting power like this masterpiece. Shame Ledger died because he could have played Joker for a long time after the way he portrayed him in this film.
Jacob Molyneux Well those movies haven't been made yet so they can't be declared the best just yet. There is definitely going to have to be a character and performance in those upcoming movies as fantastic as Ledger's Joker in order for Dark Knight to potentially be dethroned as the best superhero movie ever.
NOICKNOICK yeah I loved it. But I do get the reason why people hate it. I think it's due to the reason that there's a few things like Batman doesn't show up a lot, in the fight scenes the cops and the criminals don't fire their weapons instead hit them at each other, all the fucking cops in the city go down underground. Stuff like that bothers people I guess. Pretty dumb really lol.
NOICKNOICK actually Batman Begins is the one that people refuse to count as one of the films. Well more like it's the forgotten one out of the three. Least popular. 8.3 on IMDB (800k votes) where as The Dark Knight Rises has a 8.5 (900k votes). This is from the people of the Internet not the critics. Also the critics loved the film! I don't know where your getting that idea from.
At least you got to see it in theatres. I wanted to see it on my birthday, but my family had a tradition of going up north for my birthday and refused to stay home so I can go see it
I watched it on my birthday too. And fun fact, this was the first movie ever that i watched in theaters. What best experience for the first time in cinema.
Not only do I think that The Dark Knight is the greatest super hero movie ever, this is my favorite movie of all time. IMO, Heath Ledger's performance is the best performance ever given by an actor in any role.
S.W.A.G Gent I know, the dark knight trilogy were hugely successful and frankly the best batman movies ever, yet there are always ignorant people that say the old ones were better even though they lacked acting quality, good humour, good story, good suits, good batmobiles, good gadgets and directors and producers who actually knew how to make a good batman movie. Always find it difficult to rank the dark knight films though because they are all so good, so not even sure which is the best for me haha
crewkid52 Totally agree, Heath performance was just incredibly unpredictable, The best ever by any actor at any role...It literally shocked and freezes me the first time saw him acting like that
Debatable... very debatable. There have been some amazing performances in the history of film... Having said that... I agree with you 100%. But I'd certainly stress as you have done, that just my opinion... I can definitely understand arguments that would contradict it.
Corey Hughes Thanks for the info. That would of been pretty cool I wonder if they would of also of had another scene post bane's crew/the criminals taking over kind like what they did with scarecrow.
bmaster461603 Can you post a link to them talking about since I haven't ever heard of that idea. I guess crazy things have been planned for batman movies like Marlon Wayans playing Robin in the 3rd Tim Burton Batman movie.
neondeion12 Dude I'll search for it but I heard it in a article one time...I believe. I know he didn't even want to make this movie but then audiences saw the joker card. He made the third one because of the success of this one and was making concept things before this one came out. Let we look for the article.
I just realized that The Dark Knight payed tribute to The Killing Joke by Jokers origins. In the movie he just kept saying diffrent way on how he became The Joker and in The Killing Joke he says he remembers it one way and sometimes another
Angus Slade And Maroni's passenger. The guy that Two-Face replaced in the car. He can see him struggle for an instant before they cut to an inside-the-car camera.
Maybe one other cop was killed off screen. Seriously, you are Harvey Dent the White Knight and you walk with a face like that, you think the cop wouldn't take you in??
***** Why not? Remember Alfred told Bruce that there's just some people that just want to watch the world burn. The Joker was one of those people that was trying to make Gotham city burn into chaos and destruction. Bane actually succeeded into what the Joker couldn't do. We would without a doubt been in The Dark Knight Rises. In this movie, the Joker's dream actually came true.
***** Scarecrow was actually in all three movies. Main villain in Batman Begins, cameo at the beginning of The Dark Knight, and he is the judge in the Bane controlled Gotham in The Dark Knight Rises.
What a lot of people don't understand is that this is more than just a superhero movie. If you're coming into this movie expecting to see Batman and Joker duke it out on screen for two hours you will be severely disappointed. It's a very compelling crime drama revolving around the elements of chaos, tension, and how far a man can go before he becomes the thing he set out to destroy. I watched this movie everyday for a week until the last day when Rises premiered in theaters. It still remains my favorite, not because I'm a Batman fanboy but because it truly deserves the title.
I saw this flick in 2008 with my buddies. I told my wife when I got home that Heath Ledger will win the Oscar for this role. She said they don’t give Oscars to Comic Book movies. What cinched it for him she asked? I took her to see it in IMAX & said wait for the interrogation scene. Brilliant writing & acting on display. At the end of that epic scene when Batman drags him over the table, he sums up Bats entire existence in 11 words. “You have all these rules and you think they’ll save you.”
They should make a 4th one. The Dark Knight returns, have a legendary actor, play the Joker, Bale as Batman (again) and have Batman for the 2nd time, break his rule. Or no.
I noticed she looked slightly different but didn't know till like the third time I watched it when I looked at the credits. Nolan really did a great job of picking another Rachel actor, not letting Holmes' not wanting to play Rachel again ruin the movie
Just watched this with my son yesterday to qash away the memory of Leto's poor portayal of the Joker. Hope WB has the balls to fix the Joker for his next outing. Think he should really be recast.
The Dark Knight sent a message to world :(Batman Voice) I am a comic book movie and I can be taken seriously. I'm not just for kids and comic nerds. Anyone can watch me and appreciate me. I'm the sequel movies want to be but only a few CAN be. I set the standard for comic book movies for years to come. Worship me...
Paul C Captain America: The Winter Soldier is a VERY GOOD movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe it came close to Iron Man, but I still think Iron Man is better than Captain America: Civil War!
"Something happened to me, you know. I... I'm not exactly sure what it was. Sometimes I remember it one way, sometimes another... If I'm going to have a past, I prefer it to be multiple choice! Ha ha ha!" - The Joker in Batman: The Killing Joke

Seeing this in the IMAX as 9 year old was mind blowing never seen anything like it. Truly a masterpiece, I was lucky enough to see it again years later when the film came back to IMAX theaters.
When my wife and I saw this in the theatres, we howled with laughter at the pencil trick. Hell, I wanted the staff to rewind the film so I could see it again.
It's like comparing Tim Burton's Batman with Nolan's.Jack and Heath were both great for the movies they played in but I myself am a person with realistic tendencies so Heath Ledger just fulfilled my dream of seeing a Joker that could really exist nowadays (dark, murderous, intelligent, cold hearted) making him a total nihilist.AND another thing I really love at his Joker is that he kills people regardless of their gender(compared to Jack's Joker who kinda 'falls' for Vicki Vale).Remember in The Killing Joke when he shot Barbara in the spine? That's what The Joker is. LOVELESS AND FEARLESS.So thank you Christopher Nolan for this epic trilogy!

I am not talking about opinions. Sure, you can love whatever you want. I love Star Wars movies the most. I am talking about overall plot and meaning and message the movie is sending, The Dark Knight is something much deeper and bigger.
Jack Nicolson and Heath Ledger both did a great job. They captured the joker in different ways to me. With Jack Nicolson you could tell he was insane but could be a little silly at times probably do to the time frame. But with Ledger you thought "holy crap this nut job is totally psychotic. At least that's what I got from it. Personally I liked Dark Knight better.
Niall murray not dent, Harvey killed Maronis guard as well, you can see Harvey pull him out of frame before Maroni gets in the car, and as for the other cop either ur right or my other thought is that they think Harvey killed the cop that the joker killed in the hospital, ik it blew up but as far as they know he went to get dent and never came out and dent did.
It’s hard to match the blend of amazing acting , plot twists, and cinematography that was is in this movie and it’s also hard to get a villain as good as the joker
Thank You 3000 Joker is a better villain than Thanos. All thanos does is overpower the avengers, the joker out thinks everyone in Gotham and Batman and makes them powerless
Coleman reese doesn't tell everybody about Bruce Wayne because if you remember, Bruce sacrfices his lambo to save Reece, that is also the second scene in the entire trilogy when Gordon talks to Bruce Wayne as himself. As a result, Coleman recognizes Bruce saves him, and decides to shut up when the two look at each other after Bruce crashes his lambo
Seeing Harvey descend into madness is amazing because it reminds you of a quote said by the joker"All it takes is one bad day to reduce the sanist man alive to lunacy"
i loved this movie.. only things, i wished they showed more genius in Batsy, but i guess he is a more realistic Batman, so he wont be as genius as he is in the comics. But the biggest thing Havrey didnt hav a split personality, but still was a great movie
Harvey Dent's writing for this universe was absolute genius. The split personality just wouldn't have worked in this setting. To make it a three-way romance and then to have him manipulated by the joker and go after Gordon was just a genius, perfectly integrated narrative. It just links beautifully.
Dude, you should be a voice actor! Did anyone notice how good did he imitate both The Joker's and Batman's voice? That's kind of awesome man, seriously.
batman begins 2005 rachel: "it's not who you are underneath, but what you do that defines you." bruce: "it's not who i am underneath, but what i do that defines me." the dark knight 2008 harvey: "you either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain." bruce: "you either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain." the dark knight rises 2012 bane: "then... you'll have my permission to die." bruce: "then... you'll have my permission to die."
dont be too harsh, nolan is a genius and its hard to rise to his level , but i think man of steel is the second best superhero movie and dawn of justice is good, not spectacular but good
+Ravensblood 117 Snyder had a template for his batman: The arkham game series. Nolan had nothing. It's obvious that Ben looks better and he fights better, Snyder just copied a videogame.
Weird. I just discovered you in 2024 when this is 9 years old. It’s got a look and style they could easily be relevant today. Damn son you were way ahead of the curve

To this day I don't understand how in the freaking world this not nominated for best picture, But not nominating Nolan for best director was just crime
Before 2008, comic book movies were never taken seriously, both making them and awarding them. Iron Man and this movie changed that. It was also rumored from this movie, Best Picture nominees were extended from 5 up to 10 because the Academy members kept voting for this movie to be Best Picture. MCU and movies like Black Panther are always standing on shoulders of TDK. No debate.

The Dark Knight is the greatest superhero movie ever made. No superhero movies today will ever top this epic masterpiece.

Greatest movie ever made - period. IMO
Hey can you check out my channel please I did a review on this movie and I think you will like it
Not the #1 best, I feel that would be Forrest Gump or the godfather, but definitely in the top 10. Best superhero movie though by far
In my opinion, Rocky is my favorite movie.
If you have seen 20 movies
Great movie but not the best
Definitely the greatest sequel/superhero/Batman/Nolan movie ever made.
Plz more like one of the best movies ever made
***** Yeah I know I watched those ones
best super hero movie? no.
best batman movie? no.
best sequel ever? hell no.
"best super hero movie? no."
And what is the best "super hero" movie, then?
"best batman movie? no."
And what is the best Batman movie, then?
"best sequel ever? hell no."
Considering the amount of recognition it got, it's definitely among the best sequels ever made. And I'm talking about legit classics, like Empire Strikes Back, T2, and Two Towers.
@@Roughman123 you’re just a hater
This movie makes The Avengers look like Power Rangers!
Too bad DC had nothing to do with it
What do u mean? They made the friggin movie
Avi Kid it was a Christopher Nolan movie produced by DC there were no writers, screen players or directors from DC.... Saying that DC made the dark knight is like saying marvel made the x men movies
Oh i c wat u mean but they still produced it
Avi Kid I just researched it... It wasn't even produced by DC just based of DC comics
This movie came out 15 years ago and is still the best superhero movie ever made

Heath Ledger =One of the Best actors ever

Some sequels are just better than the first one like the dark night, spiderman 2 and winter soldier. Those are the gems of the superhero genre
👍
I thought Spider-man 2 was fun
@Nic Rock Wtf, the Winter Soldier shits on Spiderman 2, I still dont get how people put Spidey 2 so high in their lists.
And Iron man 2
And Logan
this movie changed my life back in 2008
How did it do that?
A bit over dramatic
+javi sanchez nope
+javi sanchez agree. It's a great film but it's not that important. He has to be a kid.
Wtf? Its a goddamn fictional story, you need some sort of therapy no joke.
this is easily one of the best movies of all time.
phenomenal dialogues.
amazing acting by everyone.
one of the best villains ever.
extremely re-watchable.
great themes.
visually so good.
brilliant score.
For me, this is still the best superhero movie ever.
There have been some really good superhero movies since this one was released, but none
has had a screenplay, performances, and lasting power like this masterpiece.
Shame Ledger died because he could have played Joker for a long time after the way he portrayed him in this film.
agree m8 one of my favourite movie of all time.
duh of course it is
tdk is good. but not the best imo. the batfleck solo trilogy and spider-man homecoming is
Jacob Molyneux
Well those movies haven't been made yet so they can't be declared the best just yet. There is definitely going to have to be a character and performance in those upcoming movies as fantastic as Ledger's Joker in order for Dark Knight to potentially be dethroned as the best superhero movie ever.
gorrow1990 I don't think tdk is the best superhero movie ever. Its okay. But not the best
Begins: 9/10
Dark Knight: 10/10
Rises: 8/10
I agree with you on The Dark Knight. But I'd say The Dark Rises 9/10 and Begins 8/10!
Jordan Caws Good to see I'm not the only one that likes TDKR. I don't get all the hate people put on it.
Jordan Caws Yeah I guess so, but does it deserve to be shunned the way it has? A lot of people refuse to count it as one of the films
This movie was released on my birthday, but my mom didn't want me to see it, so I saw it with my dad

Not only do I think that The Dark Knight is the greatest super hero movie ever, this is my favorite movie of all time. IMO, Heath Ledger's performance is the best performance ever given by an actor in any role.
Agree completely. The dark knight is the greatest movie of all time for me, then batman begins, then The dark knight rises
that's exactly me ! finally someone who thinks like me LOVE THE DARK KNIGHT ALL THE WAYYYY.
*The only bad thing about this movie is that it ends.*
It was wonderful, I saw it recently and it completely blew my mind 🤯✨ Nolan is a genius.
What are the chances that if Ledger didn't die he would of had a cameo in the Dark Knight Rises?
Nolan actually stated during the production of TDKR that the joker would have featured in the trial scene of the movie to face his crimes.
Corey Hughes Thanks for the info. That would of been pretty cool I wonder if they would of also of had another scene post bane's crew/the criminals taking over kind like what they did with scarecrow.
They made a script with him helping Batman defeat the riddler. So yes
bmaster461603 Can you post a link to them talking about since I haven't ever heard of that idea.
Anyone here after watching the joker 2019?
You can say that again pal

No
Yes
"Yeah"- Heath Ledger
I just realized that The Dark Knight payed tribute to The Killing Joke by Jokers origins. In the movie he just kept saying diffrent way on how he became The Joker and in The Killing Joke he says he remembers it one way and sometimes another
"I'd prefer it to be multiple choice"
Plus it proved Joker's theory of going mad after one bad day
This trilogy is way better than any movie Marvel & DC released so far. DC if you want to save your franchise hire Nolan.
Exactly, they aren't catching on. They'd rather hire Snyder

Angus Slade And Maroni's passenger. The guy that Two-Face replaced in the car. He can see him struggle for an instant before they cut to an inside-the-car camera.

If Heath Ledger never had died, he would have definetly been in The Dark Knight Rises.
He would have definetly been in Inception too, and i dont know where Tom Hardy would be now.
And still the greatest superhero movie ever made, more than a decade later
Captain America the winter solider too was really good very underrated.
@@bookeblade no way near TDK
Mmm that title goes to The Incredibles.
The Dark Knight is still one of the best Cinematic achievements of the decade and I love that it's Legacy is still impactful.

Jeremy’s transformation is proof that we all need to subscribe to GQ magazine.
Just watched this with my son yesterday to qash away the memory of Leto's poor portayal of the Joker. Hope WB has the balls to fix the Joker for his next outing. Think he should really be recast.
jared leto had a good performance i didn't like his mob stuff he felt sick but not joker sick
Jared was good but we would have a better opinion if they didn't take out over half of his scenes
There are multiple portrayals of the joker, Leto's version was one who just liked to murder. Not scheme like Ledger

Joker remembers his past one way and sometimes another. If he's going to have a back story he prefers it to be multiple choice

I think the reason Bats doesn't look so smart in this is he can't grasp the whole, Joker is just doing it for shits and giggles.
i thought it was just because it would be too unrealistic if he were that smart, sinc Nolan wanted to make the trilogy grounded

But not nominating Nolan for best director was just crime
Nowadays the Oscars are more about politics rather than awarding great movies.
No debate.
