I would assume that the other paths would have a slightly easier time, and that other better methods do exist but this is where we're at. Originally the devs described Ethiopia's difficulty as Carlist Spain tier difficulty, but nowadays I would not have them in the same tier as each other, one has CAD after all!
How did you get the scavenger trait? I assumed you built forts somewhere, cause my generals never got it and I thought the focus only works if you have a general with the trait.
At the bare minimum, give those newly created troops only 10-15% of their maximum org when they spawn in. Make it so that they can still be pushed out by the player
I know there's a debate about realism vs fun in videogames, but Haile Selassie is technically god and so should be able to use his divine powers (and ark of the covenant power up) to simply smite any enemies, thus making is easy to conquer the world or whatever it is you do in whatever game this is
the biggest problem is that without the aussa troops, italy was legit struggling in ethiopia. and italy needs every buff it can get because the allies are already op and italy is already the weak link. so, one way or another, ai italy needs a major buff in ethiopia. and while im definitely not a fan of "historicity", let's face it: either italy or ethiopia has to have a very difficult time in this war. if the war drags on into 1937, which it did prepatch, italy will be less than useless in ww2. and, historically and gameplay wise, it makes sense/is better for ethiopia to struggle since, as previously mentioned, the allies are already super busted to the point of them not being fun to play. make italy even weaker in this war and it's even more ridiculously easy to play the allies. this makes me think: with the recent updates to UK defense of the home islands, i'd really, really like to see the exact same thing for italy. might actually make it *not pointless* to play the UK. in doing so, you could even sneak in a buff to ethiopia if u wanted to, since making italy play better could make it less detrimental for italy to stay in ethiopia until 1937
I literally said to lower Ethiopias surrender limit via Absentee Emperor to solve this problem, or pdx could brute force it with an ai only event where they must capitulate after a certain point, anything that means Italy getting Aussa’s units can be scrapped.

That’s really weird because I’ve been playing a lot on the previous version of HOI4, and for some reason it seems like Ethiopia just got a lot stronger in that old version after Gotterdammerung got released. Just in the past month I’ve witnessed 2-3 white peaces between Italy and Ethiopia and one instance where Italy got declared on by Britain and France and turned into a puppet before WW2 even began. Crazy stuff
It got stronger after By blood alone dlc, I remember beating Italy in original "clear" version of HoI4. It was almost impossible and heavily depended on luck. But I did it... once. 😂
@flashpromo15 You need to encircle italians on the south, its the only way to win. There's even a guide for it on TH-cam. Very old video, before the dlc came out
It's so sad that savescumming is basically necessary now for most minor nations. Gotterdammerung made most minors that dont allow you to create the eu in 1939 obsolete and not fun to play.
exactly. I can't understand what is the problem of morons like that guy under your comment. It seems some players only plays with majors and they do not care gaming experience with minor nations
@@justice4549 The problem is that every minor nation updated in gotterdammerung CAN stand up to the us, and that's why the more "difficult," spammy AI was created. These new nations can easily overcome this, but older ones can't. A lot of the older nations do not have any meaningful way to increase their capabilities beyond what they start with. Nations like Australia or Canada are almost totally dependent militarily and economically on their puppets. And in canada's case like 50% of your focus tree is locked behind either world tension limits or being at war. This means you'd better start a no division "civil war" early to access those focuses, unless of course, you want to start playing the game and building your nation only after 1939, but by that point there is no way that youll be beating the uk any time soon.
Tbh italy just needs a big movement buff into the state of aussa but only for like a week, that would probably fix the issue. No need for extra units. Something like when aussa submits, it grants only italy this movement buff that only applies to the state of aussa and not any other states. That way they can get their tanks or cav in or something and then reinforce with infantry
Really, every since Gotterdammerung was released, it's become harder to play as ALL minor nations, but Ethiopia has gotten the worst of it. As you've mentioned, they have a bunch of pointless debuffs that take forever to get rid of, the problem with Italy constantly losing could be easily fixed by lowering Ethiopia's surrender limit if it takes the historical path, and with the Belgian Congo being less frustrating, why would you EVER play as Ethiopia? Paradox constantly puts in lots of effort to make the game worse, when simpler or easier solutions would make the game more fun.
I like the Aussa change in principle since without it, Aussa flipping is purely beneficial for Ethiopia which made no sense. That being said they should give Ethiopia a little buff to make defending it more fun/interesting than microing impoverished units for a year.
Feel free to disagree with me, but I don't think anything needs to be changed. Struggling as Ethiopia is consistent with how they performed historically. It is meant to be a struggle, because their odds seemed impossible in real life. It's not meant to be easy, it's not meant for new players.
No one is saying it has to be easy, but that it should actually be fun to do. Previously it was fine, but the way it is now is unsatisfying. Hoi4 is a video game first, realism has it's place but must take a backseat when it comes to stuff like this.
@@BubblesZest What i think they should have done was partially combined the leave or stay option; giving a bonus to international pleas if you leave, but negatives to stability and defence and vise versa. The entrenchment bug needs to be fixed as well, as does the British somaliland issues.

I don't get why you're complaining about this because the entire point is for it to be insufferable. Ethiopia stood no chance in hell at winning IRL so the alt path in game should be very, very hard.
I feel like they should make irregular divisions move though the mountains much faster, 10 days to move one unit is a bit absurd especially for irregulars
Does it make sense to hold macalle now? It's easier to hold and prevents aussa from being annexed It does prevent you from getting the mil but given you'll be in a worse defensive position it might be worth it At least for a while, you can always give it up later when you're better prepared
I didn't really see that big of an increase in difficulty, most likely because i never used the lend lease strat before with Ethiopia so it only got a little harder since you may have a harder time getting assua, which can lead to worse terrain to hold and a larger front, i also didnt do it all that well because i didnt know you could get off the Chitet while at war so i never did that and wasted my offensive to get to the mercenaries and lessons of war focus so thanks for that little strat. I honestly think if they just reworked some of the industry tree to be faster it would be fine, it just takes so long to do those focuses so you prioritize others while at war and just have no mills to make guns, if you could get some mills earlier you could make some more units and hold fine by microing
Have you actually played Ethiopia since this update came out? Cause to me it feels like you're going off pre-dlc memories. In the game I just did Eritrea got absorbed and I couldn't push the italians out of the port and it dragged into ww2 so don't let Eritrea die.
