22:38. I honestly had never heard of such an epithet given to Crispi, although I find it amusing that he's dubbed as the "Italian Bismarck" when Bismarck, originally, was the "German Cavour"
I think this one is so heavily requested because Italy just kinda feels like the odd European power out in the 19th century. Britain was a juggernaut and France had an interesting, tumultuous but ultimately successful run in the 19th and 20th centuries, while Germany came onto the scene as possible world hegemon and failed. Italy just kinda showed up, won a little, then lost a little, and now they’re here. There’s a lot of narrative room for something else but it didnt really happen.
The reality was, as the video explains, Italy was kinda shit. They lacked industry, education and social progress and population size too, really while also being plagued with mass emigration to USA due to poverty
Gross oversimplification@@manueldiaz5885. Italy had a number of not easily solved problems as this video and others point out. I'd say the worst were 1. a backward ruling house that led to a backward society and ineffective military officers; 2. lack of natural resources and lack of valuable colonies, which led to poorly equipped army. Easy to say Belgium had more industry than Italy, while Belgium was full of coal and Italy had none
As an italian i can confirm we are insanely good at making potentially the best thing ever, and then conaistently wasting all of that potential and then some.

Italian history buff here, and I have to add a few things: On Italy's potential intervention in the French-Prussian War, it couldn't happen, period. Moving the capital to Florence had been taken by many as a renounce to Rome, and Italy was on the verge of collapsing over the outrage of giving up the only real capital. Pius IX giving an excuse for invasion while the French pulled the garrison and the treaty preserving the Pope's rule on Rome outright saved Italy as a state. On Italy with the Central Powers, that's a game changer. Not by Italian military might, but by French inability to hold both fronts: either France prioritizes the north and Italy leverages its mountain warfare superiority to breach the undermanned border and rampages in the south, or France prioritizes the south and Germany marches on Paris. On Italy with the Entente, there's a window of about a month in which the Austrian border is almost defenseless, and with the scenario assuming Italy FINALLY got a functioning officer corps they would have little trouble overruning Tyrol, Friuli, Istria and Dalmatia before Austria-Hungary brings back enough troops to hold the line.
I agree but given corruption and disunity I can see Italy doing well when Germany is distracting everyone but they might make themselves look like pariahs. In 1 they would not be well behaved. I see Italy making massive gains but costly ones but many downplay that because they are winning so much.
Imagine Italian troops in Vienna in 1 or playing both sides in 2 after so they can walk into Paris as well. While saying they are “not helping axis just protecting French and getting back some art”😂
Italy is the 8th largest economy by gdp and the Po river valley is one of the most productive areas in all of Europe. I don't know if it's included, but Spain may be a good ally, to do this, you need to keep Amadeo of Saboy in The spanish throne, he was the king in our own timeline, abolishing slavery, promoting liberalism, and surpringly becoming a short lived but good reign
In Italy, we have a saying: "With 'ifs' and 'buts,' you don't get anywhere." This video is the perfect representation of that saying... and yet, dreaming is so beautiful.
By now WW1 is a meme: Italy struggles in the Alps (very difficult terrain) keeping at least 1/3 of the Austrian army occupied is incompetence, while France Britain and Germany remained more or less in the same positions on a vast plain and launched battles just to kill soldiers and not advance, until the Americans came, are considered competent
@@commisaryarreck3974Do you want to hear a joke? During Verdun and La Somme, the "competent" nations lost more men than Italy did during the war, for absolutely no reason.
Furthermore, the Allied contribution in terms of men during the Battle of the Piave and the subsequent Vittorio Veneto offensive (contrary to what the video claims) was irrelevant compared to the mass of Italian troops.
Congratulations on hitting 200k subscribers! You really deserve it man. I like all of your videos and you also are really sympathetic! Props from Germany to the Netherlands! 😊
Imagine if the Italian Federal Republic from the scenario where Italy is divided, and re-unified, ends up fighting France while Germany is going at it with France. Then Italy and Germany become allies but Austria and France hate their alliance while Britain and Russia play both sides
This has to be one of the best videos from you, the analysis and methodical development of the scenario is simply impeccable. 10/10, definitely worth the wait. Consider doing more obscure nations next, that have a ton of potential! What if everything went PERFECT for Georgia (The medieval kingdom which was _actually_ interesting) or Armenia could absolutely _KILL_ as a video!
What if history went perfect for Sweden, either Sweden wins the great northern war or they repel russia during the Napoleonic wars would be a good starting point
I wonder it these new african fronts would be similar to the european western and eastern fronts ? Or maybe a grueling Gallipoli-like campaign. Or if they would be more like an old style movement war, with which british and french infantry, especially colonial infantry, were more familiar with.
this was a very nice and deepening of my understanding of italian colonial history, as well as victorian era history which probably would have been useful when I played victoria 3 back in the days
Finally! The day has come! What if requests: 1. What if operation unthinkable happened 2. What if brexit didn't happen 3. What if russia didn't annex crimea 4. A best case scenario for the allies in WW2 after Dunkirk

As an Italian, I can tell that the best scenario you've ever depicted for Italy would still probably be the one of your "what if everything went better for the Central Powers" videos. Regardless, great video, thanks a lot
There are some things I don't get: 1. Even if France is not happy about Tunis, is it enough for the Entente to not ask for Italian support? 2. If WW1 goes well (as Entente Italy) and there are actual Italian boots on the ground in Dalmatia and Istria, can anybody stop them? Are the Entente really going to go to war for this? I mean Turkey declared Sevres to be null and void, the Entente could do little about it. It would be really hard to convince French and British workers "we are liberating allied territory from another one of pur allies, though they already hold it".
I think a video on what if Napoleon was italian since corsica was very close to being italian when napoelon was born would be good, i know it would be hard since napoelon gained power due to the french revolution but still it would be cool to see
Day Twelve of asking for videos I'd like to see. (I just realized I might of gotten two of what I wanted here) -What if the confederacy won the civil war. -What if Italy was militarily competent in ww2 -what if Italy sided with the allies in ww2 -what if the dinosaurs never went extinct (this isn't really history but still cool) -what if the cold war went nuclear -what if Italy sided with the central powers -what if Charles Babbage had successfully completed his analytical engine

Day 1 Video suggestion: What if everything went perfect for Spain? Possible alternate timelines being: 1. The Spanish Armada defeating the english in the battle of gravelines in 1588 and maintining it's power status as a dominant super power. Resulting in England possibly never growing and becoming a superpower. 2. Spain defeating Portugal in the War of Portuguese Restoration, maintaining the Iberian Union and the portuguese colonies and portugal under the spanish thumb. 3. Spain somehow keeping some colonies in america or colonizing and focusing more it's goals on Africa before the conference of berlin. Mainly in the western region of Africa since they we're colonizing the cameroon before germany got cameroon instead. This way, spain would have more influence in the african region. 4. Spain winning the Spanish-american war or atleast losing but less fatally so that spain can atleast maintain puerto rico and the philipines and maybe some more lands in america rather than losing everything. 5. Spain joining the Entente in WW1 and focusing on getting the German Cameroon, German Papua new guina and maybe other german colonies in the treaty of Versailles. It's not possible for Spain to join the war in the side of germany since this would possibly result in spain losing the war alongside the central powers so it would be more reasonable if spain adopted the same instance as Italy. Spain also depended on Britain and france on trades. But if somehow the central powers win with spain since this would make france focus on 2 fronts in europe and weaken it's position in the german front then spain could have also gained lands. But to be fair, Spain was still recovering from the Spanish-american war and had a relatively weak military.
Honestly Spain’s position in the Spanish American war is horrible all the areas of conflict are much closer to the U.S. and even a stronger Spain has no hope of challenging late 19th century U.S. in the long run. Also on the losing less hard scenarios you need to look at the U.S. goals, first, Spain is never going to hold Cuba, it’s one of the primary U.S. objectives and discontent is extremely high. Similarly the Philippines, they have a better chance here but discontent with Spain is still quite high and it’s a primary goal for the U.S. Puerto Rico, the U.S. may not have this as such a high objective but it’s so close to the U.S. I find it hard to believe the U.S. would ignore it or that Spain could reasonably hold off American advances against it. Basically the American Spanish war, well Spains going to get destroyed. Spains only objective should be trying to defend whatever South American colonies they still hold and if Spain somehow manages to still have gran Colombia expect the U.S. to try to take Panama also, but Spain could maybe get away with in the treaty agreeing to sell it.
@kylezdancewicz7346 wow that's a good point, thanks for giving me that information. I still think that the most accurate one is spain losing but not as fatally, similar to the Mexican video. It's more logical that if spain lost lest fatally i think they would atleast hold puerto rico, guam or the philipines since the US was focusing on acquiring Cuba. But if Spain implemented some Policies in these lands that they still hold, the colonies would atleast calm down. But nonetheless if spain did not do anything then they would end up losing the colonies afterwards.
*My version of this video I wrote months ago:* - France demands a little bit less during unification - unification includes demands when south joins Italy for reforms which help industry and military performance (like merit based) - in war with austria have austria give them the land they got irl before the war then Italy joins anyway and gets all reasonable Italian land - get a small Southern Coast chunk of Tunisia cooperating wirh french - with nearby to libya small Italian holding plus mood change in ottomans ottomans offer slightly better terms which are accepted and Italy gains libya without a fight - small Asian colony at some point gained mabye in southern Thailand with uk/french support - war with etheopia either doesn't happen or is more planned for leading to no war or small gains instead of loss - earlier Italy conquors the consessions it got irl pre ww2 - Italy joins entente in ww1 with some of gains being given during the war so they can't back out and with slightly better performance Italy doesn't fail/fall back plus with better initial suprise atack they use past some mountains and gain a better position and then get more from treaty with more promises kept - pre ww2 Italy is *mabye* given Syria - pre ww2 Italy spends a reasonable smaller amount on helping spain - pre ww2 uk and france fear isolation more and give even more consessions to Italy to keep them neutral but Italy helps Germany regardless - pre ww2 bigger debt and preparations for a big war leading to better industry slightly - atack france more prepared leading to slightly more gains from france - focus more on a effective big suprise atack with better generals due to prevous reforms and accepting German help to push close to suez canal - troops around horn of Africa do something instead of nothing and atleast lightly threaten Sudan/to divide British africa leading to split short term - with no German troops across Italy due to reforms and better performance with suez either taken or close to it Italy secretly switches sides right ussr invasion pre American entry for best deal getting lots of consessions like Egypt and Cyprus and Sudan connecting their colonies and uk accepting that they as shown in ww2 locally get outcompeted by Italy in that sea so give all but Gibraltar to Italy there, plus European gains against yugoslavia and France kept and Syria and mabye some other small things etc - switch sides and don't collapse with uk help then usa enters and for now holds up promises to Italy(optionally have spain join axis but agree to switch sides with Italy giving Italy more bargaining power) - allies win but get a little more in europe and usa makes Italy have some democratic reforms and compromise on some of the promises leaving Italy still in a good position as more capable and industrialised with a decent empire and a larger mainland - in suez crisis they side more so with usa - eventually mabye due to African war fascism is gone and reforms make Italy more democratic and free with Italy after losing empire still have Malta and a larger Italy in Europe.

They did it, they socialy pressured PH enought to do a 40 min long video about a topic he didn't wanted to do!
Great video btw, congrats for reaching 200k !
Everyone had requested Italy, while I was waiting for Japan.
I am still waiting for that second part of the perfect Napoleonic victory.
Nah waiting for perfect history of China is better
FRATELLI D'ITALIA, ADUNATA!!!!
IL NOSTRO MOMENTO É FINALMENTE GIUNTO!!!!🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🗿🗿🤌🤌🤌
0:50 BELGIUM MENTIONED?? WHAT IF HISTORY WENT PERFECT FOR BELGIUM???????
Its not perfect enough. WE NEED THE MOST OVERPOWERED ITALY POSSIBLE!!!
I don't know if it's included, but Spain may be a good ally, to do this, you need to keep Amadeo of Saboy in The spanish throne, he was the king in our own timeline, abolishing slavery, promoting liberalism, and surpringly becoming a short lived but good reign
Why Do You Capitalise The Start Of Every Word It Is Very Confusing To Read

Guys I think we need a perfect Sardinia piedmont
In Italy, we have a saying: "With 'ifs' and 'buts,' you don't get anywhere." This video is the perfect representation of that saying... and yet, dreaming is so beautiful.
I know it like: no "ifs" And "buts" You don't do history!
Day 1 of asking for WHAT IF History Went Perfect For Sardinia Piedmont
By now WW1 is a meme: Italy struggles in the Alps (very difficult terrain) keeping at least 1/3 of the Austrian army occupied is incompetence, while France Britain and Germany remained more or less in the same positions on a vast plain and launched battles just to kill soldiers and not advance, until the Americans came, are considered competent
Read up on what Rommel did in WW1 against the Italians
They were considered a joke for a reason.
@commisaryarreck3974 want to hear another joke? Verdun and La Somme killed more people than Italy lost during the war
@@andreagermini8094 Yeah, because unlike the alpine front, Verdun and La Somme were huge decisive battles where the entire outcome of WW1 was decided.
Italian Tunis is such a fascinating idea: Italy regaining its historic province of Africa.
Congratulations on hitting 200k subscribers! You really deserve it man. I like all of your videos and you also are really sympathetic! Props from Germany to the Netherlands! 😊
THE PROPHECY HAS BEEN FULFILLED
Imagine if the Italian Federal Republic from the scenario where Italy is divided, and re-unified, ends up fighting France while Germany is going at it with France. Then Italy and Germany become allies but Austria and France hate their alliance while Britain and Russia play both sides
YES! BEEN ASKING FOR THIS FOR SO LONG! THANKS 🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹
I am Italian and in my opinion, Italy would have had a Better history if it won the 1st Independence war and united in 1848
What if Roman Empire never Collapsed?
10:17 well thats one way to put it 💀
Ok tutto, ma Trieste?
If everything had gone perfectly for Italy, there would never have been fascism
"what if everything went perfect for imperial sweden"
Congrats on 200k! Love ur channel
11:38 Wow, that is one heck of a colonial empire Italy has there.
Congrats on 200k!! Crazy that perfect Italy finally happened, didn't really expect it!
3:31, fine, I won't...
Perfect Kingdom of the Two Scilies when?
This has to be one of the best videos from you, the analysis and methodical development of the scenario is simply impeccable. 10/10, definitely worth the wait.
Consider doing more obscure nations next, that have a ton of potential! What if everything went PERFECT for Georgia (The medieval kingdom which was _actually_ interesting) or Armenia could absolutely _KILL_ as a video!
Finally
Perfect italy.
NO WAY THE GOAT ACTUALLY DID IT!!! AFTER OVER A YEAR! YEEEEEESSSS!
Finally it happened, I've been asking for this since the "What If We Had 1942 Borders In The Modern World" video released a YEAR AGO.
FIRST TIME IN TH-cam HISTORY SOMEONE MAKES THIS VIDEO
Please do what if the Roman Republic never fell, no one ever does this🙏
The video we have all been waiting for.
we got possible history if everything went perfect for Italy before GTA 6 💀
Honestly I really enjoyed this one! Good job!
What if history went perfect for Sweden, either Sweden wins the great northern war or they repel russia during the Napoleonic wars would be a good starting point
IMHO Sweden would be worse off had they won those wars
I wonder it these new african fronts would be similar to the european western and eastern fronts ? Or maybe a grueling Gallipoli-like campaign. Or if they would be more like an old style movement war, with which british and french infantry, especially colonial infantry, were more familiar with.
The madman actually did it
this was a very nice and deepening of my understanding of italian colonial history, as well as victorian era history which probably would have been useful when I played victoria 3 back in the days
Ladies and gentlemen, we did it
Why is Italy coming up now? I just randomly started liking Italian history and here comes Possible History saying everyone else has too
What if everything went perfect for Sardinia-Piedmont?
Maybe the true perfect Italy scenario is the friends we made along the way
Ľ ITALIA S'È DESTA!!! 🔥🔥🔥🦅🦅🦅🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🍕🍕🍕
What if everything went perfect for Napoleon follow up?
8:01 PS: you added Trentino (“Italian Tyrol”) to italy, not South Tyrol 😅 (just north of it) to Italy
He said the italian parts of south tyrol, specifically. In other words, Italian Tyrol, exactly what you said it is.
Please make this video: ‘What if everything went right for the Netherlands?’
Finally! The day has come!
What if requests:
1. What if operation unthinkable happened
2. What if brexit didn't happen
3. What if russia didn't annex crimea
4. A best case scenario for the allies in WW2 after Dunkirk
2 and 3 are probably too recent for him to do, though the operation unthinkable one can be interesting.
@danymend5797 I mean he did do what if Boris Johnson invaded the Netherlands in 2021 which is more modern than Brexit and Crimea 2014
@@finntendo861 It was a silly scenario, it wasn't a serious topic, brexit and the annexation of crimea are pretty much serious and recent topics.
@@danymend5797 you've got a point there I can't lie
If everything went perfectly for Italy:
Step one: remove the king
End of the video
Jokes aside, as an italian, I can confidently say that our kings made more damage than a earthquake during a vulcanic eruption during a hurricane.
As an Italian, I can tell that the best scenario you've ever depicted for Italy would still probably be the one of your "what if everything went better for the Central Powers" videos.
Regardless, great video, thanks a lot
There are some things I don't get:
I think a video on what if Napoleon was italian since corsica was very close to being italian when napoelon was born would be good, i know it would be hard since napoelon gained power due to the french revolution but still it would be cool to see
What if Napoleon united Italy as a Genoan 👀
He was Italic for sure
31:30, maybe if there was a collapsed austria at some punt they whould be able to get dalmatia.
You now it’s a good idea when Rewriting History wants perfect italy
You should do "What if the two Sicilys united the Italian peninsula" just for fun cuz perfect italy is now over
Yess,thank you so much!!!
Day Twelve of asking for videos I'd like to see. (I just realized I might of gotten two of what I wanted here)
-What if the confederacy won the civil war.
-What if Italy was militarily competent in ww2
-what if Italy sided with the allies in ww2
-what if the dinosaurs never went extinct (this isn't really history but still cool)
-what if the cold war went nuclear
-what if Italy sided with the central powers
-what if Charles Babbage had successfully completed his analytical engine
Why????
@barsukascool Because they are cool Ideas.
@@robertdowling4673 if Dinos didn’t go extinct, then humans never would have existed
@@Channeliguess1 Of course. But still what would of they evolved into? How would life in general have evolved? Would any Dinosaurs evolved Sapience. Velociraptors where quite intelligent so it was certainly a possibility. It's a great video Idea.
Italy sided with the allies in ww2 wth are you on?
The kingdom and fascists sided with the axis, but the people sided with the allies
Thank you for this scenario! Cheers lad.
We have waited SO long for this masterpiece
Can you do what if Qing dynasty survived and industrialized and become superpower
Day 1
Video suggestion: What if everything went perfect for Spain?
Possible alternate timelines being:
YESSS FINNALY MY PERFECT HISTORY!!
*My version of this video I wrote months ago:*
- France demands a little bit less during unification
- unification includes demands when south joins Italy for reforms which help industry and military performance (like merit based)
- in war with austria have austria give them the land they got irl before the war then Italy joins anyway and gets all reasonable Italian land
- get a small Southern Coast chunk of Tunisia cooperating wirh french
- with nearby to libya small Italian holding plus mood change in ottomans ottomans offer slightly better terms which are accepted and Italy gains libya without a fight
- small Asian colony at some point gained mabye in southern Thailand with uk/french support
- war with etheopia either doesn't happen or is more planned for leading to no war or small gains instead of loss
- earlier Italy conquors the consessions it got irl pre ww2
- Italy joins entente in ww1 with some of gains being given during the war so they can't back out and with slightly better performance Italy doesn't fail/fall back plus with better initial suprise atack they use past some mountains and gain a better position and then get more from treaty with more promises kept
- pre ww2 Italy is *mabye* given Syria
- pre ww2 Italy spends a reasonable smaller amount on helping spain
- pre ww2 uk and france fear isolation more and give even more consessions to Italy to keep them neutral but Italy helps Germany regardless
- pre ww2 bigger debt and preparations for a big war leading to better industry slightly
- atack france more prepared leading to slightly more gains from france
- focus more on a effective big suprise atack with better generals due to prevous reforms and accepting German help to push close to suez canal
- troops around horn of Africa do something instead of nothing and atleast lightly threaten Sudan/to divide British africa leading to split short term
- with no German troops across Italy due to reforms and better performance with suez either taken or close to it Italy secretly switches sides right ussr invasion pre American entry for best deal getting lots of consessions like Egypt and Cyprus and Sudan connecting their colonies and uk accepting that they as shown in ww2 locally get outcompeted by Italy in that sea so give all but Gibraltar to Italy there, plus European gains against yugoslavia and France kept and Syria and mabye some other small things etc
- switch sides and don't collapse with uk help then usa enters and for now holds up promises to Italy(optionally have spain join axis but agree to switch sides with Italy giving Italy more bargaining power)
- allies win but get a little more in europe and usa makes Italy have some democratic reforms and compromise on some of the promises leaving Italy still in a good position as more capable and industrialised with a decent empire and a larger mainland
- in suez crisis they side more so with usa
- eventually mabye due to African war fascism is gone and reforms make Italy more democratic and free with Italy after losing empire still have Malta and a larger Italy in Europe.
This is one of the few times that I've actually been interested in a alt history video longer than 20 minutes
Love to Italy from Germany. 🇩🇪🤜🤛🇮🇹
