- Welcome to my introductory video guide to Predecessor (also a review), a 5v5 competitive MOBA in open beta which attempts to bring back Epic Games' old dead game Paragon back to life. Part third person hero shooter and part action game, predecessor is a fun fast paced team game with close fights, hero builds through different item choices, and an emphasis on verticality in the map making for a unique experience. Similar to games like Smite, League of Legends, and Dota2.

I thought they did it right... and then I had a carry that blamed me for everything under the sun, I told him I couldn't save him from himself and he ran it down like 30 times. Classic

@@Ratsputin Start playing with characters that can carry, Lt. Belica, Dekker or go with offpicks, i play Moriguesh in sup bc of her dmg overtime, harass and dominance in late game
@@thiagoboscowich3630 I just play with my buddy now, we usually go Kira and gadget, we only got a few losses with it and the few losses was cause either someone left or a lane went like 0-11, super fun and aggressive tho

Paragon went down because epic games decided (rightly) to focus more on fortnite. This was still when fortnite was more about save the world and all that jazz and less about battle Royale, but they were about to pivot and wanted all hands on deck
Actually, they announced the shutdown of paragon after battle royale had already started to take off.
@@oimate4531 but supported Fortnut INSIDE the original paragon menu MONTHS before a BR was even thought of
Not only this but the developers had done complete reworks of thr the in-game build system like 3 times before the shutdown... so lots of the player base at the time was dwindling due to the inconsistent direction for the game.
RIP legacy paragon map. You are missed so so dearly.
That game was actually slatted for shuttering. They were leaning into paragon when someone figured "why not simulate pubg on our game" and the rest is history
@@allibababoo fortnite was never going to shutdown because it hadn't even been finished yet when BR released. Save the World was pretty much incomplete the whole time it existed.

Hey man, I’m an intermediate paragon player. I learned a lot of the game just by playing but for it being just a beta. But as a relatively new player to the paragon scene this video is great.

Paragon wasn't dead, Fortnite just made more money for epic so they decided to focus on that instead

Great video! My hopes are pretty high for predecessor, honestly, with the exception of the heroes and their abilities, Predecessor is almost a completely different game than old paragon. Map, items, mechanics, alot of those things work differently now. Paragon also suffered from some meddling when tencent bought enough stock to have a say-so in the game's development. All and all, I really hope Predecessor will eventually be able to stand on its own
I don't mind playing any role in this game because it all feels good

This game is what smite 2 should have been. I am a “smite 2 founder” and it was incredibly lackluster. Now I know it’s ONLY an Alpha, but let’s be real, do you think Hi-Rez will change much, from now til July 28? Hope predecessor lives, they need to add more heroes, skins and battle-passes. That will help its life, longevity, and replay ability of the game.
I'm a smite one founder and figured smite 2 wasn't gunna beat the bar they set. I seen overwatch 2 re release the same heroes/champions and had a suspicion hi rez would do the same. I play this game for atleast a couple hours every couple days. Sometimes daily. Iv been enjoying myself on it. Needs more game modes. 3v3, 5v5 I never liked aram myself. Seems like the skins are getting better. I would like to see more mobility items 🤷♂️
I think the game would really benefit from a randomly picked weather and daytime. Nothing crazy, but sometimes playing in the evening, sometimes in (light) rain. The static perfect summerday time gets old fast.
I think that's a great suggestion. Weather would help make the game more lively.

Predecessor has been an absolute blast to play but it's time to give another a shot, what game should I cover next?
Smite
Omeda city rank is fairly accurate on solo players but when you consistently queue with different rank players the game struggles, additionally it does cover console players their ids are just messed up :P good video earned a sub from me
Support is actually my favorite roll in predecessor, jungle is a close second though

It's pretty fun actually, I've mostly played offlane and support!
At 13:06 you can find how far you are from leveling up by looking at your level in the victory/defeat post-game pop-up. It tells you how much amber you got, what level your character is, and what level your account is. All right there.
The level progress bar is wrapped around the account level diamond.
Yeah I've noticed that since I made the video, still odd there's no place to check that in the menu! That said, open beta, UI is something they want to improve on, I'm sure they'll get around to it

@@SchwingyPOV I should have let the other player play their pick I was just tired having to play support right. Everyone fights carry for last hits as support not realizing their starting item gives them passive gold just hitting a different enemy. You dont need last hit. Things like this need to be said so others dont feel like the pick they got will suck cause all the classes are good.
Great video :)) Predecessor is my friend group’s most recent obsession. For us the moba format is really boring but because of the 3rd person aspect it becomes so much more engaging. Also my god the number of people forfeiting for no reason is nuts. Can’t support a gray stone main though, sorry 🤷

I think if they lowered the prices in the shop they would sell more, which would help them keep it going. Asking $80 for s bundle for 2 characters is wild. That's more than a AAA game.. for like 1 skin you will use and a banner kinda thing. other than that, this game is great fun! Loving it so far!
True, prices like that make it hard for me to warrant a skin purchase!

Paragon was amazing up until the point they changed the game dramatically, mostly the card system. This happened around the time Fortnite was made. Soon after the game got shut down but a lot of people remember the good old Legacy map days of Paragon. Predecessor is not much different which is why I can see most paragon fans coming to predecessor myself included. They're doing a good job with this one
Shut down for that fortnight money over million people signed the petition to keep servers open back in the day imagine you buy a physical copy of paragon in Walmart play this game for years buy skins etc just for epic to chase the money
Paragon died because they changed the map (nobody ever likes it when there's one map and they get rid of it) and as if that wasn't bad enough they overhauled the game to the point where existing users had to relearn big chunks of it. Very annoying. I loved it back then and I love Predecessor. Sadly, the issue of people disconnecting, ruins the entire experience, likewise, resigning just because you died or because your team is one tower down is just soul destroying.
Personally, I think the games duration is too long. I don't mind it but sometimes you are so far behind that it's going to take a miracle to overturn the deficit and whilst those epic come backs do happen from time to time, it usually feels like you were 8-0 down in a FIFA match with 40 minutes of misery in front of you.
Parts of the game are just way too complicated too. The shop system, mixed with a bunch of items and builds for characters is just too big a barrier of entry for most people. Sure, you can leave it on auto-build but we all know instinctively that pro players aren't doing that. Some of the controls are way too clunky as well, like needing to confirm attacks. There's a lot of design issues that I'd love to fix.
I think fortnite's success was also a huge factor for why development on paragon eventually stopped, but yeah, I've learned of a few things that paragon did completely different from predecessor (item/card system and the maps like you said) that I could totally see having had a negative effect on the community at the time! It reminds me of what happened to H1Z1 at around the same time!
@@SchwingyPOV I was on Paragon daily with my squad (we were a group of 8 who were on frequently) and after the updates, I think I was the only 1 out of the 8 even prepared to give it a go. If 7 of my 8 abandoned it, I can only imagine that happened to the masses. Hopefully these guys learn from that... and what we've seen with the likes of Warzone where the hatred for Caldera was real but now we have tons of maps in rotation.
On paper, 3rd person MOBAs should be perfect for me. But watching this and smite gameplay and its just a nauseating, headache-inducing, weightless and flashy combat experience. Great video. Chill explanations.

Paragon didn't die. It was killed by Epic.
the reason paragon died is because they wanted to focus on fortnight after it blew up also their final card system update was really unbalanced and due to fortnight being such a success they didn't put any work into fixing its issues this added to the downfall, so they released all the assets for free because i believe deep down it was the devs baby and they did want it too succeed but just didnt have the recourses

Dota 2 is self hatred but League is fine? You may not be a very cranial gamer, but if you have the capacity for Dota 2's deeper systems, you can't begin to compare the Smurf infested shithole that is league to Dota. And I was a very involved League Player for years. Dota 2 actually cares about the player experience for the last 2 years at least, while Riot ist out for the money and nothing else.
I appreciate your input and can't really comment on the monetization of dota as I'm not informed on the matter! It's not so much my lack of a brain that makes me dislike Dota 2 in comparison to LoL though, I just REALLY do not like the movement characters have. Every time I've tried it, it's felt like I'm wading through a pool of jello.
Also none of my friends play dota.. it's just way less popular where I live.

Keep in mind paragon only failed because EPIC got lazy and had FoRTnITsS money so they drop the game
To be fair they probably made way more money on fortnite than they ever would've with Paragon so from a company's perspective, I can totally see why they did what they did. Just unfortunate.
@@SchwingyPOV that’s what a lot of people don’t understand is they are not an OG beta player of paragon. In the original paragon INSIDE the menu it supported Fortnut from the beginning before it was even a BR if you played 10 games of Fortnut you would get a banner for paragon but never did they do the same for paragon. Also the balance team didint help lol they where BaAAaaad

Smite is incredibly ghey. I don’t understand how anyone thinks it’s better than this. Smite 2 could have just been an update. Nothing was remade at all from the ground up, they just plug and played from UE3 to UE5. I hope smite dies out sometime soon.
Exactly. Smite is a flat MOBA, just with other view. Pred is the real TPP MOBA experience.
