@@biggooseadventures good point, I think they tied to charge me 12 bucks to return it. Luckily they saw I have had all Go versions and three of the X's so ...they where cool and did provide free shipping after I asked. I assume it will be least 12 bucks to send it back if you break the lens.
@@biggooseadventures I'm curious, did GoPro 8 offer any kind of assistant for breaking their non removeable lens cap? Nope, oh wait, if you sign onto their GoPro Plus program $$$$ LOL Keep trying, you really think we won't see aftermarket lens replacement kits for this in the new year? even GoPro 8 has aftermarket replacement lens covers now. We all know that there actually IS a removeable lens guard on the Ace Pro just not easily by end user. The GP8 was built into the frame, that's ok, i'll get my lens kit for $10, keep paying GoPro's/DJI's $25 replacement covers. I've had over 10 actioncams, both with replaceable and fixed lens cover, I have yet to replace one of them or even scratched on to the point where it's unusable.
Yea, I have even called folks out for it. I was offered my first deal the other day, turned it down, as they have to review it before you post it and if you find negatives they want you to talk to them first. I just can't get past that so I don't think I will ever get free kits lol. Just subbed to your channel! Appreciate the watch and comments mate. I am thinking of starting a group of reviewers to commit to not shilling, selling out, so that we can create some type of honesty network to fight against this. Just a group of honest like minded reviewers. Just toying with idea, be cool to start so folks can see you are part of the honestly network so they know you will be getting REAL reviews not bought ones bought and TOLD what to say and do. Maybe some type of seal of approval by an entire group of NON sellout, non Fanboys.
That's fair. I think its comes down to use case and what color options you have or want or like. I think it has a lot to offer for sure! Appreciate the watch and comment. Cheers
You weren't paying attention to the video. There were colors and shades changing on his face while he was recording himself outside and inside. I was big time obvious while he was outside.
Most folks who use action cams DONT color grade or use it as a studio camera..just saying. For a first gen camera its pretty good and dont forget when DJI released the Osmo 1 it sucked and after a bunch of firmware updates it became really good, so lets give it a chance.
That's super fair. Like I said I don't think I went to hard on it, just letting folks know it might not be for everyone. If I could I would post a pictures to show you that, at least for a vlogging system, it falls apart. But again just my 2 cents. I am a HUGE insta fan, trust me I am rooting for them that the fix it. I am amped for anyone that disagrees and find this is for them. For me, I can point to countless situations where the background is more in focus than the foreground and face. I am doing a video on why I believe using something like Topaz with a DJI with 10 bit will be a better experience and just as good in low light without all the constant change and flickering. You see, the insta is just auto color grading to get that low light and you can see it in the blacks and shadows even when its not in low light mode. But I fully agree, for most people it just fine, and for youtube. 100%. Just not for me :(. I'll prob. do another video pointing these things out, not to flame but to hope insta fixes it :).
Great point.. I had trouble between seeing so much Go Pro footage I liked from about Hero 7 onwards.. and the thought of batteries overheating and such that I went with the INsta360. First action cam and I want to attend some nice track days without needing to mount a gimbal in the car. I hope some of the footage is usable.
@@andreas9119 you will be fine, that is a great use case for this camera! It really just breaks down if you are vlogging or shootings something very close.
As a TH-camr, we have the responsibility, we have to review the products with honesty even if they are sponsored. Even if you can be biased, but at least tell pros and cons. Most of the reviewers of Insta360 Ace Pro, didn't mention much about the audio quality which is the main issue of my insta360 cameras that I have thus far. Thanks for your brutally honest review, Hill!
A couple of other issues, some of the AI effects are premium and are free now but require a monthly subscription next year and squeezing the body on the door side can cause the door to pop open. As for the reviewers, I remember when the X2 came out and the reviewers all commented that the new one has a higher bitrate. It was an error in the talking points they were given by Insta360 as the previous model actually had the same bitrate. It shows are just reading the script and actually checking it for themselves.
Please be accurate, the AI Warp feature which is the only that's in a trial base right now and only for the Ace models, WILL still be free in the new year, as of Jan 2, 2024, you can make 3 AI Warp animations as opposed to the 'unlimited' trial now, if you want to use more then 3 times a day, then that's where you will have to pay for the 'additional' animations. Are we forgetting that GoPro charges a fee to use premium features in Quik which those are free in Insta360 Studio app. Again, inaccurate, the ONLY two things that was different for pretest models sent out was the front lens guard, it's no longer removable by user but still a separated piece. The reason for Insta360 to keep that lens locked down I'm guessing to to pretesting there were some moisture/dust issues. you can bet that we will see 3rd party lens replacement kits for this in the near future, good example, third party sells replacement lens guard kits for the GoPro 8 which doesn't have a lens guard is much harder to repair. The second change was 8K, 8K was not in the pretest models and they opened it up for final release which is quite usable. Not to mention, Insta360 has somewhat address the issue to repair and damaged lens guards for the duration of your camera's warranty for free, you just have to pay shipping. GoPro did no such which when their users complained about this.
Subscription for useless AI fluff? Should have learned from GoPro 8 make the screen replaceable. *Time to buy a used action 4 or new Action 5*. Thanks for honest review - made good points. Regarding *focus issues don't forget that DJI Action 4? had this problem even worse, but fixed it with a firmware update*.
I don't know you footage looks fine on TH-cam. I actually took mine out kayak fishing on December 7th and the footage looks better than my gopro. If anyone wants to see, the video drops tomorrow, and it's real use in a real situation
Thats awesome is works for you, I am not the only one that thinks the image it produce is, well, sub par. Real situation, what is not real about walking around outside? Shooting inside, or trying it as a studio camera? But end of day, super amped it works for you, for me it looks like hot steaming poo......lol .... Trust me I would love to like it, but its does not suite me, but not twisted up if anyone else likes it or disagrees. I say heck yea go GET IT! Cheers man!
@@HillPhantomIt is amazing to me that you think it looks terrible. It looks...very good. Just like all these cameras. A GoPro 3 looks bad. This...obviously does not look bad.
@@geometerfpv2804 as I said all for it if its suites you mate. Seems some eyes love it, others don't, I personally prefer the Action 4 and DJI color science over Insta's but that's just me. And I still do think the ACE suffers from a focus issue but to a degree they all do. Cheers!
I actually ran through a lot of issues with this camera I don't think anyone tackled as well though a few you had here I grabbed as well. Great dive in man!
Thanks for the honest review! I thought I read a comment about focus issue, none from sponsored reviews, and you confirmed it. The initial reviews were really exciting. But watching more and more, it seemed like so much time was spent on low light, which does look amazing. For me, don't spend much time in low light shooting. Perhaps Ace Pro is going thru growing pains like the Action 3 endured and suffered. But now it appears the Action 4 is really becoming the favorite. I still read comments about GoPro 12 having to fix issues by taking the battery out, and tho it's still on sale at $349, just cannot go back to the nightmare the Hero 8 was. There might be others like me, buying things only on sale. Action 4 has not seen any sale pricing since inception. Even if they throw a crumb, I'll pull the trigger on it. I appreciate honest reviews and you, thank you sir!
Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I too wonder what will come in regards to firmware updates. I really do enjoy my other insta360 products. I ended up ordering the pocket 3. And if I like that I will get the Action 4. D log and 10 bit excite me in post, and using some of my own AI tweaks. But I will miss the build quality and that flip up screen big time!
@@sk72 Yea that is very true, I think the firmware updates they pushed help. I think all action cameras with their fixed focus, struggle with close up. Some are better than others IMO. Most are using some type if Dioptor (sp?) filter to combat this issue.
I just got my first GoPro (Hero 12) for my birthday recently and I use it for vlogging. In addition to my Sony ZV1. The GoPro is incredible in good light. Not good in Low light. But in good light, especially bright sunlight (which luckily I have a lot of in Southern California) the GoPro looks amazing. To me the ace pro looks like a really cool little camera to have for travel and low light stuff but I still think that the GoPro footage I’ve looked at in comparison videos looks really good. Thank you for your honest review. I do want this camera and I also want the DJI pocket three but for now I’m really happy with my little GoPro. I just take it out on sunny days, and the footage looks terrific. It’s a great throw in the bag camera, set it and forget it and don’t worry about it. Thanks again for the review. People get so salty about everything. I think every camera has value if you know how to use it.
First, congrats, the best camera IMO is personal preference and the one you have. Most important thing is to push record! I don't disagree with anything you said and it was very well said! I hope I didnt come across to salty lol, I am not really a fan of INSTA as a company so sometimes that shines through. Ty for the watch and comment! Cheers!
Yah, the footage tbh looks good on my end, not sure what's bad about it, some segments (in your studio) was a tad under saturated but the competition does this as well. Actually GP over saturates in my opinion. I've been observing people on YT and Reddit about this camera since it's conception and it's very interesting and sad at the same time tbh. Btw, don't hold on to the Ace on my account, 6 months later when you really hate you'll divorce me too lol From the judge of your video you've pretty much got your mind made up ;) That said.. go through all the reviews of this camera and there's been a lot and watch the immediate comments. When this camera gets a good review, it's automatic deemed "biased" or sponsored even when they say it's not sponsored or paid OR they slap the usual 3 Stooges of problems, Lens guard, flip and 10 bit. And when it gets a negative review, the fanboys are like "About time someone made an honest review..." hmm.... Did you ever noticed when I bring up overheating which btw is still a serious issue, that point is usually VERY quickly brushed away or subject is change very rapidly lol I've been testing people, I'm kind of mean that way. On my final review of this, whether I keep this camera or not, which I think already I will, there are just wayyy too many things on this camera to brush off like many on there in what? not even 2 weeks of it's launch. We seem to have forgotten that DJI and GP has had seriously bad launches, DJI 3 with it's center blur issue which caused a recall, now the DJI 3 is one of the best actioncams out there. GP with it's overheating issue since what? GP 8? Yah the one that also didn't have a removable lens guard nor did it have 10 bit but sold like hot cakes and was considered an "actioncam" STILL after 4 generations a hereditary heat problem. You know what the funny thing is, apparently it's not even an issue anymore, fanboys have literally just gotten use to it and I've even been suggested to DON'T use it longer then 20 minutes at a time or that you'll NEVER use it longer then that or here's the best one, some ass hat even said to me with the low light thing, Action cameras are not designed to use in low light, NO ONE uses it for low light, does this all sound a bit mentally deranged to you that fanboys would this far? Oh no, no 10 bit and removeable lens guard, shitty camera, it's all hype, it's a scam. People should really read up on Insta360 and what they've accomplished in the short time that they've been in business. Do you also know that Insta360 cameras was used by NASA for the Perseverance project and then again for the Rover Mars landing for the camera system? Where was GoPro and DJI?????? oh yah, on surf boards at Maui wahahaha... Here's my take on this 10 bit argument and min focal point argument, 8 bit is 16 mill colors, 10 bit is just over a billion, as a graphic designer for a bagillion years, we all know that humans can't see beyond 1 million colors on a good day even if you pixel peek the difference is negligible, where it plays on action cams is the gradients, ie. banding which yes, is really the only noticeable thing when watching these video comparisons. That said, the Ace Pro does an incredible job at the banding part, seriously I've shot enough videos at night, low light and bright daylight and the sky is usually where you'll catch the banding, I'm not seeing much if at all with the Ace Pro especially in the HDR mode. That was actually explained, the combination of the 5nm processor, the higher bitrate, HDR and the Leica lens is the main factor of the almost zero banding, do a test, take a GoPro 10 which doesn't have 10 bit, put it up against the Ace Pro, look at the banding on both, you tell me, hmmm.. interesting right? We also neglect to realize that the action camera segment is massive, ranging from the beginner user to the professional users, now dissect that market segment and look at who the majority are, yes, you got it, the 'general' consumers, then you have your prosumers then your professionals that take up a small portion of that pie chart. You're truly asking some SMO off the street who barely knows how to turn these things on to have a power enough PC and the knowledge to do post color grading LOL, I find that quite humorous actually. If you're colorist, you know it takes color grading know how and you have to have a pretty powerful PC to handle 10 bit grading, right. 10 bit has NOTHING to do with sharpness, that's an optical lens department which brings me to the min focus issue, is it an issue? or was it done on purpose with the Leica lens. Now, think for a very quick moment, and I've been going over reviews for GoPros and DJI's and hands down, detail and sharpness from 6 feet to infiniti, the Ace Pro is much better even in low light shooting, both DJI A4 and GP12, go look, look at the background far away, it completely loses detail and Ace Pro keeps is sharp... welcome to Leica lens optics, I know Leica lens, I've worked with them and I grew up with their optics, them, Fujinon and Nikkor, were leaders in the industry and you're seeing that in this camera. Put it this way, I can fix the close range detail with a simple dioptre fix which btw I already have it and now it's crispy clean, i think even cleaner then GP and DJI lol but I lost the background detail. It's easier for me to sharpen the subject then it is for me to sharpen behind a sharp subject, agreed? And btw, what's GoPros remedy to this background detail loss? ahhh.. the $100 Max Wide Lens 2.0 LOL Right. Obviously they are aware of this issue, I see a lot of fanboys complaining about the blur foreground, I don't see a lot of ppl complaining about the blurred background which imo is just as important if not more depending on the shooting style which for most, is 6 feet to infiniti. And I don't think it's 6 ft, my vlog was only about maybe 3 feet and it's pretty damn clear dude. So yup, it's actually kind of entertaining what people on YT especially reviews LOL Anyways bro, I hate to say this, but most of your footage looks fricken amazing and I'm not the only one saying this, yah, there were the odd hiccups but you're telling me DJI and GP's don't have those kinds of hiccups and still chronically do. If you got all day, I'll point those out to you lol. Some people can't get use to change, especially someone else that poses a threat to their favourite company and why the term fanboy was created. I used to be in that category, I just grew up that's all lol I could care less if Akaso came out with a camera better I would jump ship in a heartbeat. I've been in hardware and software for a long long time, there's no reward in that kind of loyalty anymore. Trust me, I've haven't made up my mind with this camera yet, I have 11 more days but FOR ME it's so far checking all the boxes, it's not for everyone, no camera is. Good luck with the DJI Pocket 3, it's a beautiful camera but just don't get it wet lol
Im a weirdo about this stuff I will admit it...lol. And I won't divorce you even if we differ, in fact I like we differ and you see it differently. This is important part of life to me!
@@HillPhantomYup, different strokes for different folks, just tired of the fanboys on here, they are the main reasons why consumers make bad choices. I was in computer and camera sales for over two decades dude. I've seen and heard it all, I've seen ppl blow a lot of money because their 'friend' suggested this was the best, yah for them not for the person buying it. People need to knock that fanboy chip off their shoulders man, don't get me wrong, this thing has tons of potential and I'll give it a chance, it's too early to say tbh which direction it will go. I follow tech, not brand, i grew up lol
Oh I cut out my rant on how I feel TH-cam in regards to reviews is 100% done, bought and sold. I want to develop like a honesty network for small creators that refuse to take free products or sponsorships. But to be fair TH-cam made it impossible to make money, so they are forced to bend the knee to corporations. Sad really.
@@HillPhantomI wish Insta360 gave me a free camera lol I would even settle for a nice selfie stick but I got a free t shirt in which they only have XXL sizes and I'm a Medium, oh well, I need more workshop rags anyways lol.
Thank you Brendan for the watch and comment! Yea the 8 bit, may change, but it not certain if they will uprade the camera to 10bit via firmware upgrade. I kinda think they have to personally but it could be a year from now. I am waiting on my DJI and both the pocket and action 4 are 10 bit! Appreciate you mate! Cheers!
You are one of few youtubers that honestly reviewing this product. This camera has some major flaws, focusing is one of it, it struggles to focus your face and also image corners are blurry. Look at 0:15 (fence on the left).
i own one, but when using purevideo mode, try clapping or snapping and record, then pause then record, the audio seems lag. standard video has no audio lag.
I heard the phrase "hunting for focus" pass your lips when I dipped into this video - maybe you didn't really mean that, but of course it's a fixed focus camera. It will give sharp focus to the horizon, and there will come a point (chosen at the design phase and significantly influenced by optical physics) when objects close to the camera will become noticeably out of focus. But yes, you'd hope that faces would be within the sharp focus zone at reasonable vlogging distances from the camera.
Yea, was a slip of the tongue, hard to keep all the things straight in the moment lol. But yes your explaination is spot on! Appreciate the solid comment and watch! Cheers!
i think the minimum focus is longer than a human arm! my big gripe is....its not really 8k...how on earth can you record 8k 123gb per second onto a micro sd card? its just a consumer grade over sharp weird shape. web cam does not work, microphone adapter is horrible, the base plate does not lock, the file saving is weird, auto white balance is terrible if you hold up your hand while talking. its just not as good as everyone said...feeling ripped off and still using my go pro.
Hey Professor! Nice to have you! You make some great points. I was lucky, sent it back for a refund before the 15 days was up, though that was a hassle getting them to actually agree to what they state on their website but I digress. They are getting exposed pretty hard right now, and I have to say, I am so for it! Not only for the sub par cameras we have seen in the last 3 launches but for some very unsavory tactics when it comes to creators like us. Check out iphonedo's recent video that is helping to expose them for what they are......I am currently under attack by them, it insane to watch. But, I still believe the truth always prevails. Appreciate you mate! Cheers!
Some say it is ...by fully breaking the glue around the lens lol....I was like ok that's replaceable 😂...fully agree lots of misteps on this camera....I believe that's why it's on sale four months after launch...great comment and ty for the watch! Cheers!
@@HillPhantom I heard that it was originally going to be replaceable but they stole GoPro's design so they had to glue it. I'm not sure if that is true but it is possible. I've seen videos and it does look awfully similar.
The focus is definitely an issue. "Make art now" said it's focus point is about 6 feet from the camera. There will almost certainly be a lense cover that can adjust that to a closer focus. Make art now 3d printed a fitting to put a filter that fixed the focus.
I 100% agree Ben. Same thing Camera Conspiracy said so there are few folks way bigger than me saying this now. But just a few being honest IMO. I am just kinda like, you made a flip up screen and are marketing it, a bit as a vlogging camera, yet we have to buy a lense to make it work as a vlogging camera. Kinda a fail IMO. Camera Conspiracy has some good insight on the Leica lense too. Seems Insta just consulted them on what they should buy, what parts, so the whole co-engineered thing is kinda a ........well....stretched the truth a bit from what I understand.
Yah, the focus issue is fixable via dioptre for people who wants to vlog a lot with this camera, i had a close up +4 lens filter for my A6300, and someone actually designed an adapter to put over the Ace Pro to use that existing lens filter, it works! tbh for my use, not likely i'll be using that filter but it's in the bag if i need it. I did a vlog at about 2-3 feet distance and didn't noticed any blur at all. It's the opposite of DJI and GoPro, they have great close proximity focus but blurred background. I rather have Ace's problem as that is easier to fix with a simple inexpensive method, GoPro's fix to this is the Max Wide 2.0, $100 and I don't think DJI has a fix yet. Don't forget, ace pro's distance is much more clear then GoPro or DJI as an actioncam I would think this is kind of important don't you? This is where I think the Leica optics kicks in. But again, different folks, different strokes, most of my shootings is fps to scenery.
@@MiyagisRant the max lens mod is to clear up the background?? I’ve never seen that suggested, thought it was for a wider FOV, especially when using settings that restrict it
@@Fee.1 The max lens mod does 2 things, wider angle and better stabilization for smoother footage which in turn when you have good stabilization you have "sharper" image..technically. But a lot of people who bought the lens were disappointed.
So the 8k, introduces a delay on the screen, really cool its has it, but its still in 8 bit so......... I didn't find it useful unless on a tripod. Awesome if you want to do push ins for example in post, meaning take an 8 K on a 4K timeline you have a lot of room in post to do some movement. I mean really the ZOOM on this camera is just an 8K crop, so the camera is actually doing it as well internal. I think it more a marketing gimic vs useful at this time personally.
I know what you are saying but the video does not display it. Maybe TH-cam compression is not showing me what you deem as bad. It looks fine to me. I can care less about how they are marketing it, it is not my Fuji. It is an action cam and it does very well for me in this area.
That's fair, you can see the out of focus in low light on my face, but yes is very sutttle in the studio. It seems some folks notice it while others do not. I think its all comes down to use case and personal preferences. I have had some folks say the see the focus issue while others say it looks great. For me, the focus is just one issue, and I just don't like thier color, agian personally, but super amped for those who like it, I wish I did as the build and the way it works I love love love, just not so much the color science and for me focus issues. I appreciate the comment and watch!
I think it's shorter then that, I did a video where I was vlogging and there's no way was was six feet away it was crystal clear, yah up about 1-2 feet, it's not as clear but I don't shoot that close to anything, and if I do, I have the dioptre fix for it, yah, anything beyond that close proximity is clearer then it's competitor in my opinion. I think the biggest problem is that people keep pushing this 10 bit thing, for me, I rather have a lens that gives me good sharpness at it's source then color, I can always do that in post, not as easy as grading 10 bit, but I can do it. Post sharpen never looks right imo. This is where the Leica lens comes in.
I have both the GoPro 11 and Ace Pro. GoPro often got overheated and shut of without me knowing while filming my bike cruising videos. Which frustrates me a lot. The Ace Pro just keeps going never got overheated, maybe it’s something to do with the 5nm chip more efficient at operating the Ace Pro.
Oh yea, GoPro for me, is no longer in the same league as these chinese companies. Nothing against that but, the fall of GP has been sad to watch as an American. GoPro gots some serious catching up to do with both Insta and DJI. But then again, they kinda left the door wide open IMO. Every top dog falls tho u know. Maybe this will motivate GP to get off their hands, and do work, least that is my hope. I would love to do a tear down of the new GoPro and these camera to see how they are using thermal sinks and such to pull heat. Or perhaps you are right the new chip I too suspect is more efficient.
I might look towards something outside an action camera like maybe the Sony ZV-1 bc it has zoom. But on that same thread, Insta360 Ace Pro has the best zoom of the action cameras because it does not reduce quality. Cheers mate.
So I don't have the X4 but the X3 and I use it for thinks like action sports. However, I would prefer a true action camera if I am doing other things or other things less intense like fishing. What is your use case if I may ask?
Maybe it's just me??? But this video looked fine... Now I did see that "pulsing" glitch? And Ehhh??? That's not really a deal breaker for me.... may have been due to your outside environment? I really need a good low light camera and an upgrade from my DJI Action 3..... I'm still leaning towards this Ace Pro... I definitely appreciate your review, and hope that "pulse glitch" would get corrected in future firmware updates.... #Salute
Yea. I think its all what you is "ok" with you and that really holds true for all action cameras IMO. I ended up going to the pocket 3, which I adore, and did purchase the Action 4. So far I do prefer it, I can put it on D log and control more things in post. That was the deciding factor for me as I did not like what the camera did in low light and they lack 10 bit and a log so for my use case, wasn't for me. I do not regret sending the camera back and getting the Action 4. Though I do wish I could have waited for the Action 5, but, I need it now. There is a TON of things I like about the ACE Pro, if it had a log and 10 bit I would be have stayed with it honestly.
@@HillPhantom Yeah, see that makes sense for you... I just do basic VLogging, some drone footage, and some editing in Davinci Resolve... I don't even get into the D-Log or flat profiles... Your review was still helpful and informative to me and other viewers.. Thanks Again...
I really love how clear and detailed the background looks - it's not blurry unlike with other action cameras. Honestly, who vlogs 1 foot close to the camera anyway? 2 feet away still looks sharp.
Yea it's a known it suffers from close focus issues. They addresses it a bit I'm with the 2 but it's still not great. But your right we are in an odd time bc folks like to vlog on Action cameras yet they are not really designed for it....they are designed to try to keep everything in focus and typically nothing close. GoPro addresses this with a lens mod for example for those that want to vlog.
My personal take, I like the DJI over the AcePro, however, if you are shooting in low light, I would say AcePro has a slight edge. Overall I would say DJI is a better camera in general.
how would u compare the ace to go pro 11, (i mainly need an action camera to record me riding horses, playing squash and other similar activities) (only the ace and the gopro 11 fall in my budget)
That's hard for me as I don't have the 11, but from what I hear, GoPro looks tons better than the ACE Pro in full sunlight, but, the ACE Pro dominates it in low light. It would be a tough choice for me, I love the flip of screen, but I don;t really like the colors insta uses. But then again I like insta's editing software tons better then GOPro, but if your going to use something else to edit that a none issue. Sorry I could not be more of help but if my back was against the wall and I had to pick one, I would prob personally go with the GoPro
My sentiments exactly this is an overhyped camera and I really falls short too when it comes to stabilisation compared to a GoPro 9 for example which I own... even that far down the track, I think the side-by-side footage of other reviewers shows that GoPro is much clearer and sharper more precise with focus so I think they rushed into this one out too quick and made some flaws and AI is good ...but AI can also be very bad in this case the latter is pronounced, keep up the great work fantastic channel cheers Andrew ⚔️
Thank you so much, sorry was down with illness, so late here, but wow, thank you thank thank you. I now am eating a shorts a bit bc I didn't fully test the GP12, but I am still only using my GP9 at the moment so....GP for the Win? I think I am holding until the next generation, perhaps I go back to the light and away from the darkside (DJI) lol. I am still loving my pocket 3, though I question its durability. I may be catching the Go3 soon. I just need to stay in the mentality with that camera is not an A, not a B, but a C, your paying for the from factor. Just subbed to you channel you keep up the fantastic work as well my friend.
We play artificial field matches with my friends between 21-22 in the evening. Unfortunately, there is no video recording on the field we play on, so I want to buy a headband and record these matches on video. I generally saw that everyone uses GoPro, but alternatives such as Ace Pro and Osmo 4 attract my attention. Which one would you recommend? In a style that does not distort the image much while running??
Good question. I would say I like the Action 4 personally. The only thing I would mention is that if you deal with low light the Ace Pro might be the way to do in that situation. Honest they are all pretty good. I think me personally I like the DJI most followed by the Go Pro and then the Ace Pro. Cheers and ty for the watch and comment.
Look at the low light part again. Also it's slight but it struggles with anything close. I just got the action 4 and it's night and day difference. Some see it some don't, but putting the action 4 vs this, it's no contest in many ways. But certainly person choice and opinion. If it's for you that's awesome. Lots of good things about it too.
I shoot 4k/30fps in HDR, it looks better then 4k/60fps non hdr, they actually cover this in another review, although with no 10 bit, the combination of the HDR with fast bitrate and 5nm processor puts out near 10 bit quality, with these cameras the worse difference is banding which in this camera is very minimal if at all. I've shot countless videos already and I've only had it for 4 days and I've been pixel peeking, Unless you're using this in a professional manner, you will see the difference but for the average user, nope.
Great video man! Would you recommend it for concerts (to record on stage, as a drummer)? Meaning, dark, lots of different lights, lots of movement, more than 1h videos, etc...) Thanks!
Thank you so much. I think this would be a good camera for that use case. It actually does a pretty good job in low light. But if that is your main use case, you may want to consider the Pocket 3, that has a 1 inch sensor and looks great all around even in low light especially if you shoot in D-Log and know how to color grade. But if you prefer an action camera I would suggest this or the DJI Action 5. I would try to avoid the low light mode on both if possible as it looks too how do I explain A.I.(ish). But I do think this camera would also do pretty well in just automatic if you want to make it easy. Goodluck mate! Cheers and thanks for the watch and comment!
@@HillPhantom Thank you so much for your quick response. Because you mentioned it, I am currently considering the Pocket 3. A bit more expensive but I think it might be worth it! Thanks again man, keep making great videos 💪
@@artenesto288 you are welcome bruv, beware if you get the Pocket 3 you will prob will shoot more and will prob use it more than you expected. At leasts that been my experience. And I hated the Pocket 1 and 2, but the three, I can't imagine NOT having it!
Sorry to ask but I would be a first time action camera user, and as I'm going on my dreamtrip in a few months, I want to use a action camera that is waterproof and I can use for filming myself with elephants in a sanctuary, and just some random places in daylight. Would you recommend me to go for the insta360 ace pro, or would I be happy enough with the DJI Osmo Action 4? I would not use it to take photos, but if the quality of my videos is good enough, I'd probably use some shots from there. I'm just so confused with all the reviews and comparisons I've watched lol 😩
Hi! No sorry needed and I hope you have a great trip! So I personally like the DJI Osmo Action 4, but I do see some advantage for you with the flip up screen. Honestly I think you would be happy with either. I am partial to the DJI only because it has a LOG profile I like and it shoots in 10 Bit vs 8. I tend to like the colors coming out of f the DJI and the video quality a little bit better. However, having that screen is really nice to frame your shots. I guess if you are comfortable in post production editing and color grading I would lean towards the DJI, if you are just going to shoot in AUTO and don't want to mess with color grading I would go with the INSTA. But most of all, enjoy your trip, I think you would be happy with either!
It's an action cam. I bought the "normal" Ace as a replacement for the Gopros that kept overheating all the time, usually failing just when I wanted to shoot the most unique moments, actions that couldn't be replicated. I lost so many opportunities. I don't care if the quality would have been slightly better if the Gopro had decided to actually work, because I got nothing at all.
Yea I am not a fan of GoPro either, and if I am honest not super impressed with the 13 either, but then again, It think overall we aren't going to see anything great or revolutionary from DJI or GoPro for action cams this year. There is a rumor Insta is coming out with a new Ace and AcePro 2. We will see how that goes over launching a new cam 6 month later like they did with the Go 3 and Go 3s. I am NOT a fan of Insta as a company, but it will be interesting how folks react if the push out yet another upgraded model months after the original launches. Time will tell. But seeing what has come out from GoPro, in regards to innovation I will say Insta seems to have one the innovation battle IMO.
Right on! Yea all of them look a little bad in low light I feel these days. Good to know you where able to return I have found them to be a pain to deal with on returns.
@@TurnWrightEngineering-xo1yg sadly I had a much different experience. I had a camera brick after 3 months. They tried to charge me to send it back, then said, if it was not covered under warranty (mind you it was 3 months old) I would have to pay for repair. In contrast DJI doesn't charge to send back and I have had no issues with them taking it back under warranty without any attempt to get more money our of me. I personally can not stand they way INSTA conducts business.
Interesting, I didn't notice it but, that would not be abnormal lol, I have not doubt it may have those issues. I am eagerly waiting on the Osmo Action 5, I can't wait. I liked the Action 4, but really eager to see what DJI comes up with next. Thanks for watch and comment mate!
Now that the pro 2 is coming out, the pro has dropped price so I've been researching. I feel like this camera underexposes everything and is not using the full dynamic range.
Oh yea for that, and that low light stability, best in the market by far! I am all for anyone it works for, in fact, a bit jellous lol. Cheers! And thank you for the watch and comment!
Hi Hill, I just ordered mine. Now I’m worried about closeups. When I’m out metal detecting and find a cool old coin or relic and want to double tap the screen to get a closeup, do you think it will be blurry? If so what settings would you recommend. Thank you for your time in advance.
My insta 360 ace pro footage is way better than I get on my action 4 or GoPro so I have no idea what you are talking about. Why did you not have side by side footage to prove your point? lol
Well if you took the time to watch my other videos you would see why. And the internet seems divided on this, it all comes down to you personal opinion and what your eyes see and honestly what you can tolerate. They all have issues. I encourage you to watch my other videos and I did not compare bc I am independent and not rich so I have to get one camera at a time mate. Sorry not sorry Im poor lol.
@@HillPhantom It is hard to find detailed unemotional and unbiased review these days. People may choose to be paid - that's fine, but full disclosures should have been mandatory to be seen genuine. Kudos for GoPro for pioneering small factor action cams. GP3, 5, 6, 10 were getting better video qual and EIS. Faster chips. But with version 10 overheating disaster they forgot about USABILITY and lost me. On top of that: WiFi/bt crashing, no live preview, battery life sucked - always something. I do deep dive footage and indoor sport events for personal use. New brands came along. I know - with design steal from GP, but I gave DJI Action 3 a chance. What a relieve! Similar features and stable - that's what I needed. It is not perfect - limited accessories and average white balance and color reproduction for underwater filming. That's why I'm probing market again. Action4/Insta360 AP: Is larger sensor worth it? Does it bring significantly more light? Is AI acronym another gimmick or real new kid on the block for action cams? You have answered some of those questions. Thanks and good luck!
I know i am watching this a bit late, but these 3 models mentioned are still the best in class for each company. I watched a comparison between 3 cams. And yes in low light, there are issues. But in any other scenario gopro reminded me of the iphone vs Android video recording. It doesn't shine and the image doesn't have big pop off moments, but it was by far the most consistent and well put together. But sure in conditions will less light larger sensors will have advantages... Who would have thought. I may pull the trigger on next gen. Hopefully the hero 13 brings us with that, all praised type 1" sensor
Three months later, i don't agree with all your points but what really worries me is the amount of resources Insta360 spends on promoting the Ace/Ace Pro. That's a red flag for me.
Hey law, I get it, most of this is personal preference and how your eyes see things, and what your style is, I too agree is very troubling and problematic that Insta360 is able buy reviews and reviewers. I am all for anyone who like this camera and it works for them. No shade from me, I actually wish I liked it more lol.... As always most important thing to me is you like it, and that you click the record button! Appreciate the comment and watch mate!
The Ace Pro is unusable for vlogging, you are totally out of focus. The only hope for them is they release a diopter filter that mounts to the lens, that would fix it but who wants that... you are seeing the disadvantage of larger sensors combined with fixed focus larger apertures... even DJI Action 4 suffers a bit from this but a slightly smaller aperture helps with close focus. The GoPro Hero 12 is best for vlogging (in good light) because its smaller 1/1.9 sensor keeps more in focus.
Awesome comment and knowledge! I ended up looking towards the Pocket 3 for vlogging, I'll post a review soon as I have it! Thanks for the watch and great information!
So a firmware update and some additional features/options can’t help this? I’m looking for a great camera to use on a motorcycle helmet while riding, but would also love the best possible low light performance so i can still record after sun down but nothing cuts it
@@hygyke so they all do bc of the fixed focus but I have to say, this one from a foot or two away is in focus, the Insta was out of focus from 2 to 3 feet away. There Are some fixes via attaching a diopter but for me that does not make sense if I want to turn the camera around and shoot landscape, I would have to take off that diopter. Not idea IMO of course.
@@HillPhantom thanks. I've no problem with fixed focus if it do what it advertise (I think 40cm was it on ace pro and dj osmo action 4). But on many footages on the ace pro it seams the close focus is somewhat further away and it is not goes infinite. The extra lens does work for me couse I'm using it on motorcycle/handheld mixed, and it is pain in the ass to always handle an extra lens when need to switch from motorcycle to face. I'll hope I can try ace pro soon and will see.
Software bugs for me are making me crazy. You can have your white balance locked but every third or fourth video will ignore the lock and go back to auto, even showing it's locked. Some videos in the same light are darker or brighter as well. Sometimes the sharpness is different with the same settings. Inconsistent, making me feel like I'm in a $450 beta test.
Rob, so true. I noticed the flicker and almost had a seizure. Its bad, I thought maybe I was losing my mind, as others didn't seem to pick it up. I am very light sensitive so who knows but your beta test, IMO, wins the day, fully spot on!
@@HillPhantom thanks! . . I just got my Pocket 3 a few days ago. I got the creator combo. I've been recording with a nice smartphone, so hopefully the pocket 3 will be better. I think it will, since the specs are better overall.
@@TheInvisibleRedneck I think your footage looks good on your channel. But I do think the Pocket will take it to the next level especial when you are doing your walking type tours.
Didn't try that with the Ace but have with other insta products. I'm not a huge fan of the studio but interested if they would make a difference for sure.
The Ace Pro's min focus distance is way too high than what they have declared (I guess they mentioned 40-60cms) which is a bummer for everyone except for the POV. I have lost trust on so many youtubers who sold their soul for this free camera. You are probably third or fourth ytber whom I have come across in ATLEAST 100 videos which I watched as I really liked the camera and the AI stuff but NO ONE talked about the focus issue. For sometime I thought its just some setting issue, but later I realised its the hardware that they chose and fooled several people who have purchased it. ALSO, the ones who have purchased it, with their hard earned money have either returned it or justifying it in the youtube comment section. When I am infront of the camera, I want myself to be crisp in the shot and if not, then the rest of the stuff in the shot. You have got a new follower. 👏Great job and all the best !
I greatly appreciate your kind words. I have been sick so this was just the pick me up I needed. I too am very disappointed and also fell for the hype beast but........it lead me to my mission of "keeping it 100 always". Means the world to me someone notices and is also fully grounded with me on this, rather, ishy, AI freakazoid, camera.
I have another problem with this camera.FLickering lights!Every second light and dawn or night flickers.I did try to use 50hz antiflicker,60,auto,4k 60,k4 3,4k 25 with all kind of different shutter speed and it is still flickering!
I had some pretty nasty sky flicker in PureVideo during blue hour. The sky was switching back and forth from blue to green, blue to green, for about ten minutes until it got darker out.
Thank you so much for this and other honest reciews. What wouls you recommend to film a documentary on a through hike? Considering it will take in remote locations for days, the weight is a concern. I'd really appreciate your opinion.
First brother, I have walked much of the AT so I know long distance hiking well, my name HillPhantom came from the trail actually.....so good luck and LFG! So, weight, is a massive concern for shiz. Lightest is the Go3 and is a compelling option, but for a bit more weight, and better low light, we start to think about the insta360 Ace Pro or the DJI Action 4. But then again I start to also think about think about non action cameras like the Sony ZV-1. While older, it has a zoom, might not be as wide, but you can pop it on a selfie stick and its pretty good and is decent in low light. But the zoom and the sensor it looks really cinematic, much more so than any action camera. Give and take with each one. So if I was walking I would take my ZV-1 and an action camera. I would just understand and be ok, I am carrying more electronic weight. I have a pretty light weight kit on all other aspects so, I would take the hit to get the shots I want with two camera. If I was to just take an action camera, I would say, for using all auto, I would take the ACE Pro only bc it so good in low light. If I was willing to fiddle with settings in low light I would take the DJI Action 4. But as someone who has filmed hikes, and ultras, f4cukin' with settings when your tired sucks, or when its rainy, sucks......I would prob actually go with the ACE Pro, but if I had two camera, I would go with the ZV-1 shoot in SLOG and then the DJI Action 4 DLOG ----- but I would have to then color grade and all that. So if I was going for a like documentary look and wanted to do a sh%t ton of work post walk, I would roll with those. Most likely I would do more vlogging so I would want to just do auto, standard color profile, and upload along the way only worrying about the edit, not color grading. SO having that said it depends on how you intended to document your walk and in what style. I think folks are willing will be more into the story and adventure, so any of these cameras will work well. Concentrate on that and the edit would be my 2 cents mate. Good luck, keep me posted, and if you do doc it, LMK you channel.
Totally agree, I had the experience try to edit an insta360 footage in davinci resolve, the color grading is a nightmare due to the camera is not able of giving more color. Many people buy because the better resolution and bit rate but you notice the difference in 8bit colors vs 10 bits of the gopro and the color profiles that even doesn't have insta 360.
I can't stand the color science Insta360, I don't know why the refuse to use 10 bit or a log profile. Lots and lots of "gimmicks" with this camera. I appreciate the watch and comment mate! Cheers!
Thank you for the honest review. I almost bought one, based on the glowing reviews on Amazon. But I don't really need low light, I want something mainly for daylight, flying and canoeing. Low light would be great, many of my canoe trips extend on into dusk and full dark. But first and foremost it needs to do daylight very well. Your comment about "one trick pony" is spot on.
TY so much for the watch and kind comments! I ended up with the Pocket 3 and the Action 4 from DJI. I have to say, if you use Dlog the night shooting is pretty dang good, low light mode not bad either though I think I will for my low light fishing evenings will do DLOG over the low light. It just looks so good and you can do so much more with log and 10 bit if you are into doing so light work color grading. Insta Ace Pro sadly will never get 10 bit. If you are in the market I do highly recommend the Action 4 or if you can wait 6 months the Action 5 I suspect will be pretty rad and have a flip screen too!
Nice to get a normal review for non techie…I’ve been using my GoPro 9 for video and photography and love it. Yes it has issues but not enough to sour me .. 📸🇺🇸
Thanks so much! I honestly still keep it real with my own GP9. I think it a good camera for sure. Lots and lots of benefits above and beyond my lack of taste for it.
Appreciate the video! I'm no video shooter expert but it felt like the other comparison videos not clearly transparent. When I saw was needed to set the Ace Pro with the DJI mic 2, I knew that wasn't going to work for me with all the added accessories and cost.
Nah. I think just ur lack of knowledge about cameras. Take it from a photographer/videographer. There are always way to compensate for the shortcomings trust me.
IMO, ace version are for casual action camera. Gopro are for doing extreme sports, they are tough, good stability. DJI is trying to be has casual way of using it but still heading towards extreme sports action camera. Just my observation and experience on using action cameras.
Man, my 2016 released Sony FDR X3000 simply destroys all these Action 4s, Pockets and Insta360s in low light. Ai or no Ai! Gopro isn't even on the map! And it's a full auto camera as it does not have manual settings except WB and EV comp! Gonna be many years in order to be convinced to give up my FDR X3000. At least, the way I use them! Got two of them!
Dont take this as fact as I don't know shit. This is marketed as an action cam. Mountain biking surfing so on and so forth. If I was going to vlog I know they sell cameras targeted for vloging. But regardless you make great points to take into serious consideration.
You are all good and welcome! Yea lots of people are hung up on the vlogging thing but honestly, very successful bloggers been using action camera to vlog on for a long long time. The flip up screen was added IMO mostly for those folks. People get hung up on, and action can only be X, not X and Y but I disagree. There are certainly better options for vlogging, for example the DJI Pocket 3, but I do think vlogging on an action camera is acceptable and a great way to get into the game cheaply. Cheers mate!
👍👍👍This was a great video. I was sold on the Insta360 Pro, but, I'll think I'll go for the DJI Pocket 3 and wait for the Insta360 Pro camera to get a little better like adding 10-bit color and fixing the close up focusing issues.
It's not optically possible to make it focus up close with a 1/1.3 sensor at this shallow camera size. Maybe it can be achieved in post with the AI chip, but it is a optics limitation. Until we can make light curve, not just change angle, we're screwed.
New to the Insta360 world. I am still doing research and NOW I know why the ACE PRO is so cheap on the resale market. Thanks for video and not having to step on this landmine.
much better if you can compare to a DJI and GoPro 12 side by side. Your videos look great on my eyes, totally different from my insta360 X3 potato camera. but yeah 360 cams doesn't have great resolution.
Thanks. Yea, can't yet afford to buy them all, but getting there mate! Appreciate the watch, suggestion, and comment! Found two more issues, video about it out tomorrow.
Looking into this camera for night time video around a camp fire setting, the go pro hero 8 black isnt cutting it so need an upgrade. Thanks for the review
I could tell from all the test footage that the quality just isn't there. It's good for low-light, but that's all it's good for. Every other area of performance, it is nowhere as good as even the older GoPro cameras.
We need more youtubers who do honest reviews and expose companies when they're approached with the opportunity of doing a paid review to crap on their competitors Honestly im lost now, I'm selling my hero 11(money issues) and i'm already looking on what to save for to buy in couple months, but apparently all 3 major brands are scam... man :/
-I was looking to get the ace pro since I dont feel like the ace pro 2 upgrade is worth the extra cost -gopro absolutely sucks, I need a good low light quality because I ride a lot in the dark -and I'm not trusting dji anymore after they sponsored mkbhd's dangerous video stunt while I dont support what marques did(going 90mph in a 35mph zone) dji sadly seems to be the best choice, what a shame because the ace pro flip up screen is what I actually need
Ayyye thank so much! I will always keep it 100! I can at least give my opinion - I don't think its worth the upgrade for the Ace Pro 2 personally - GoGro you nailed it, prb the best in sunlight, the worst in dark - My personal take, its prob more on MKB than on DJI. My take, ACE PRO, good in low light, but looks very cartoonish AI ish if that makes sense. But bc the 2 is out maybe you might catch a good deal on the orginal Ace Pro for Black Friday. I am really like like my DJI Action 5 Pro, if I had the 4 would I upgrade, tough to say but I am happy I did. . I like the way A5 deals with low light but, I also think if you put the Action 4 in D-Log and color grade you can get some really good looking low light IMO. I think the key there is making sure you are shooting in correct speed, rate, iso, or least limiting those factors with auto but make sure its always in D LOG for low light The 4 is selling pretty cheap right now, I was in the same boat, I had a GOPro 9 (lol) but tested all these and returned most. I now have the 5 and I am very happy with the choice. I know DJI can take heat but my experience (and they dont know im a youtuber) has been really really good with support. It wasn't great at all multiple times with Insta360 even with after care. They make you pay to send camera back in and then they decided if its warranty or not, and if not, the fix it and send you a bill. DJI is more no questions ask and fast! For those reasons for now, I think im a DJI guy bc I ADORE the Pocket 3~! Also, remember, you do typically have 15 days of return policy so if you get one and don't like it send it back. I do that often, get it put it through paces and if I find issues, I send it back.
Thank you so much! I found two more issues that I am just finishing up editing the video ...not good man, not good at all mate. It's headed back and I just got the Pocket 3 today!
Thanks for the criticism of these cameras. I was really off put by all the videos showing it to be so damn good. Im coming from a Hero+ thats 10 years old so everything will be better, but im also looking fof the best bang for my buck
Ciao!!
People are so nuts about this stuff...image quality is bad? All these cameras have amazing quality. You're being just as unreasonable as the shills. The differences in quality between these models is very, very small...they all look fantastic.
So having a viewpoint, unpaid, and unsolicited is shilling now? Good to know....Might want to brush up on shill mate. Like I said in your prior comment, all eyes see different, as well as most humans having different tastes and styles. There are some VERY glaring issue with this camera, did I say there were none with others, might want to watch my DJI Action 4 review for example. I am not here to polish a turd, nor tell you any product is perfect, because if I did I would be lying and or shilling. I am well aware as you should be FPV, that amazing quality is subjective. But I do hear what you are saying, action cams have come a long way, but to say they are equal or perfect, is incorrect in my humble opinion. I think seeing both the positives (stated in video) and the negatives (also stated in video) then sharing why I came to my conclusion, is in fact, quite reasonable my friend. But to your point again, if you have watched any more of my reviews, you know I am very aware and loud about few things, use case, person preference, personal style, and the fact, I feel, no action camera as of today has fully hit the mark. I am looking eagerly to the next gen of action camera that may solve these issues. If you watched my review on the DJI Pocket 3, I was critical of the 1 and 2, but the 3, they really did knock it out of the park, still found negatives, but they really responded to past mistakes, and gave us modern, well working version where there engineers listed to critiques and provided real fixes. I am not negative to be a hater, I am negative in hopes of us all getting a better product. But also look at some of my other responses, where people ask me what camera they should get. Its a mixed bag based on use case. And that's where I think you may be missing it, each camera seems to have it niche, low light, ACE PRO all day, Color (person preference don't get all salty,) DJI, Ease of Use - DJI or Insta, Day Time Shots Full Sun - GoPro - Hardware - DJI with Insta close behind. Stability - Really all pretty dang good at this point, but I'd still say GoPro has the best, by a hair, with night stability INSTA all the way..... Focus - DJI/Gpro --- I can go on all day but you might now understand I am far from unreasonable. I have often recommend the ACE Pro to folks, based on their use case, even though I don't personally like it :).
it is great to see some honest opinion. i was and maybe still am considering this for low light low effort shoots. i am not a fan of anything AI... but this sure is not the performance i would want out of a camera. perhaps firmware updates will improve the performance. perhaps not. this makes it easier to lean towards the DJI. i really dont like that so much is forced in the setting on this camera. i am used to cinema cameras where i have to set everything, and i prefer it that way. thank you for the video, definitely food for thought.
My thought after seeing what the onboard AI is doing, shoot in 10 bit with the DJI, D log, and then put it through AI yourself or, just color grade it. The best I can tell it just slamming blacks and lowlights/shadows, raising illum, and pushing up highlights. All stuff I feel I can do better either with color grade or with Catalyst. But could be wrong, I hope to know soon, DJI will be here, though to be honest getting the Pocket 3 first.
Yah, Insta360 rep said they will not likely have a 10 bit upgrade for this but I can't see that. The hardware in this camera is so advanced compared to it's competitors that I think we will see a 10 bit upgrade eventually. Heck, even the DJI 3 got 10 bit and if my memory serves me right, they said that with that camera too at the beginning, look at that camera now and it's hardware is not as good as the Ace Pro. i have a funny feeling they are going to be pushing their 8K more though, that could be why. We are very early into this camera yet, this is actually the first camera that's had this much 'hype' as you call it lol I see hype like I see 'stereotype' it's a type of sarcasm that comes from truth ;) so far, this has performed excellent to my usage, I shoot a lot in low light conditions and this camera is at the top of it's class with this feature. I'm not a big AI guy either but the AI features in this camera is actually useful, ie. the pause and continue function, you don't know how great this function is until you actually use it lol. Gesture control is wild, it will actually pick your gesture from pretty far away. I could care less about the flip out screen but it's pretty tough like Hill said, i think everyone thinks it's some flimsy piece of plastic lol. Time will tell with this unit, but I don't think this is all we've seen with this camera, they've already had two firmware updates an Insta360 is pretty good with their firmware unlike well, you know who lol
Your making me want to hang on to see updates mate lol. Ugggg ....if we could get 10 but id prob keep it just get a close lens you know. But yes right now for vloggers I think it's a no go for now
@@jadefinchscene5644 I think I am going to do a video on Topaz again. My belief is you will be able re produce what the Insta is doing but with better results. Or at least without blowing out the blacks. I am eager to get my hands on the pocket 3 but its so delicate and not weather sealed. I think I am going to try and wait to see what DJI does or if Insta maybe fixes these issues I would buy again. I appreciate your comments and watch!!!! Cheers.
U need to be aware of the minimum focussing distance of the cam instead of complaining about the focussing system ability itself. Also, its an action cam not a vlogging cam. Ability to vlog doesnt make it its core strength, its an action cam bro.
I love this type of comment. 1. The stated min focus distance is wrong. Fully aware that it's wrong and even so it still fails on focus in general. Second I love people who have to fit a camera in x box. As if you can't vlog on a device that is fully market as an action camera that can vlog. I get fanboys well trust me.
Aww man, too bad you didn't like it, so far i've been pretty happy with mine after 3 days, shot a lot of footage and for my use I like it. Looks like the DJI for you?
Im into it, everyone eyes are different and mine are old lol. Everyone's use case is different as well. Its a great camera for the right person for sure! I play ALOT with ai so I think I would rather just get a great bit, and then push it with myself. I do like the d log, but I just wish it had all the other cool AF stuff the insta has. I still got love for it, just not for my use case sady. I am getting the Pocket 3 next to try, I know, not an action camera but I it will give me and idea :).
@@BassManStrikes ugg your killing me mate lol, now I have returners remorse LOL. Your stuff looks good, I think its just the idea if your going to vlog and hold that camera out, it just can't focus well on face or anything close.....but its an action camera not a vlogging camera it only just kinda look like one ....lol. I ended up getting the Pocket 3 ( I know not an action camera fully agree) but I think it will suit my needs better. See that's the deal on this for me, all about use case, and as a fisherman as well, that low light is butter bro! I don't hate on the insta I hope that's not how it came across...dooohhhhh
Bro, thank you for your wonderful rejoinder. Here's all I am trying to do, I'm building a new utube channel (Poetry). All filming will be inside. I've experimented with my Samsung A54 5G smartphone. Nope not a good go. I've looked at a ton of videos. Obviously, Insta 360 is out, DJI osmo action 4 or Sony ZV 1f seem okay, but I still I'm not sure. Need great image & good sound - simple & accurate would be wonderful. Finally, my old eyes are not so sharpe anly longer so that flip out screen does seem mighty wonderful. Any recommendation greatly appreciated. Shalom, Ted.
@@PoetryBang-n4u Shalom Ted! It kind depends on budget but I have a small love affair with the DJI Pocket 3 and if you get the creator combo with the mic it's really an incredible kit. Yes not an action camera, kinda hybrid between a full frame and action camera but it hits way above its weight class.
Insta360 haven't done themselves any favours. I expected a big increase in picture quality after all the hype but get better results from my insta360 go 3 and even my insta360 rs one Next time they release a new camera I will wait a month or 2 until it has been reviewed by honest people like yourself and ignore the YT grifters.
I get it, not comparing to a video log camera, just pointing out what I feel are serious downfalls of this camera, to include a min focus issue. Folks get to wrapped up, its an action camera it can and should only do X, I disagree with that logic.
@@HillPhantom Each product needs to consider what is its core use case. Trying to do everything usually means doing nothing well. So it is all a case of whether the camera suits what you do. While being able to focus closely is important for you, other features you don’t use that much might be important for others. For instance, while low light performance doesn’t mean much for you, it could make a huge difference for mountain bikers who rides through dense woods when it gets dark or skiers/snowboarders in heavy snow.
@@suisinghoraceho2403 that's fair, but if you watch the entire review, I point out the strengths of which are low light and action sports. I also go so far as to mention use case and how important that is when considering a camera. I guess the thing is you are trying to say one X is important, when there is so many uses, that I can't say its wrong to use it anyway you want. I can simply point out the things I noticed. It's up to the viewer and there use case to decide if its for them. Do I think someone can vlog on it, yes. Do I think I would, no. Would I vlog on a full frame, no....they are too big. So really end of day, I don't like this product, for the reason stated. But if someone does like it, or uses it a way that makes them happy, I am 100% for it!
Just a quick correction, the lens guard is NOT a one time replacement, it's unlimited for 1 year. That's kind of important lol.
Ty! That's even better!!!

But you have to pay for shipping
Are people actually calling their sponsored videos 'reviews?' That seems like a big no no to me.
(disclaimer I've done sponsored work with Insta360).
Not sure what you are talking about bro, footage looks perfectly fine for an action cam 😶
That's fair. I think its comes down to use case and what color options you have or want or like. I think it has a lot to offer for sure! Appreciate the watch and comment. Cheers

Ty so much and I agree, its so sad to see folks I used to respect sell out to corporations.....Appreciate you mate!
Really dude. No camera has great mic quality. That’s why everyone buys and uses a microphone! You trippin
GoPro did no such which when their users complained about this.
not to discount your comment in the least! At all! I do want to be honest saying DJI will step up. But Damench knows his ish too.

Thanks so much man! Just subbed btw. Appreciate you brother.
Hi!
If I recalled correctly, reviewers on YT did mentioned focusing issues as well with Action 4?

You are one of few youtubers that honestly reviewing this product. This camera has some major flaws, focusing is one of it, it struggles to focus your face and also image corners are blurry. Look at 0:15 (fence on the left).
Ty for your comment and the watch. I 100 percent agree with you!
i own one, but when using purevideo mode, try clapping or snapping and record, then pause then record, the audio seems lag. standard video has no audio lag.
Sadly I sent mine back, to many issues to deal with, hopefully they fix some of this stuff with firmware updates. But for now, its back to DJI for me.
Cheers!
hunting for focus, "software focus". And that lens is native to over 2 feet, not 40cm.
i think the minimum focus is longer than a human arm! my big gripe is....its not really 8k...how on earth can you record 8k 123gb per second onto a micro sd card? its just a consumer grade over sharp weird shape. web cam does not work, microphone adapter is horrible, the base plate does not lock, the file saving is weird, auto white balance is terrible if you hold up your hand while talking. its just not as good as everyone said...feeling ripped off and still using my go pro.
Cheers!
I noticed the weird flickering and color shifting right away. I also think the lens (or more accurately uv filter) should be user replaceable.
@@fixedfocusmediaofficial thats sounds pretty on brand for them for sure!

What about the 8K footage? I was a review I trust say that the HDR mode wasn't forced in that mode.
I think it more a marketing gimic vs useful at this time personally.
what about for underwater angles? I will be using it to demonstrate exercises but I'm looking for a very clear and vivid video quality.
Yeah. It's sux what more can I tell you.

😂😂😂. You get used to it. I can imagine living in the heat id melt.
I appreciate the comment and watch!
insta 360 has a minimum focus range of 6', not great for vlogging but better for everything else.
or put a lens on
I think it's shorter then that, I did a video where I was vlogging and there's no way was was six feet away it was crystal clear, yah up about 1-2 feet, it's not as clear but I don't shoot that close to anything, and if I do, I have the dioptre fix for it, yah, anything beyond that close proximity is clearer then it's competitor in my opinion.

What is the action camera suitable for filming football matches from the stands?
I might look towards something outside an action camera like maybe the Sony ZV-1 bc it has zoom. But on that same thread, Insta360 Ace Pro has the best zoom of the action cameras because it does not reduce quality. Cheers mate.
would you recommend the x4? or even the go pro 12 its on offer for £299
So I don't have the X4 but the X3 and I use it for thinks like action sports.
Hey what is a better action cam for first time user the 360 ace pro or dji action 4 what would you recommend
If I may, how do you intend to use it? Also will you be doing alot in low light?
My personal take, I like the DJI over the AcePro, however, if you are shooting in low light, I would say AcePro has a slight edge. Overall I would say DJI is a better camera in general.
It's a beautiful landscape. Anyone knows where this was shoot?
Ty. I live in Montana
how would u compare the ace to go pro 11, (i mainly need an action camera to record me riding horses, playing squash and other similar activities) (only the ace and the gopro 11 fall in my budget)
@@HillPhantom thnx man but i think i will buy the x3

Video I been looking for.. DJI Action 4 is The pick No Cap! Genuinely Great video, thanks
Appreciate the watch and the comment. Means a ton to me thank you Jokes!
Dude your crystal clear I'm not seeing what your seeing.
It sounds like the issue is related to HDR?
I shoot 4k/30fps in HDR, it looks better then 4k/60fps non hdr, they actually cover this in another review, although with no 10 bit, the combination of the HDR with fast bitrate and 5nm processor puts out near 10 bit quality, with these cameras the worse difference is banding which in this camera is very minimal if at all. I've shot countless videos already and I've only had it for 4 days and I've been pixel peeking, Unless you're using this in a professional manner, you will see the difference but for the average user, nope.
I think that as well and the min. Focus I think are both off. Maybe they can fix via firmware update?

Is this still going on? The bad cam quality? Or have they updated a lot with firmware
I sent it back, but from what I understand its still has some issue with focus in particular.
I have one, first one went faulty but they replaced with no issues. I think the image quality is great but low light is really poor on this camera.
Right on! Yea all of them look a little bad in low light I feel these days. Good to know you where able to return I have found them to be a pain to deal with on returns.
@@HillPhantom For return they couldn't have been easier tbh, no quibbles, I sent it back to China and got a replacement back within 14 days.
And it still have audio desync problem like One R/RS have.
I really love my two Osmo Action 4's.
I am not particularly picky. I am a fan of the low light performance and based on that, I will buy the Insta360 Ace.

Action4/Insta360 AP:
Is larger sensor worth it? Does it bring significantly more light? Is AI acronym another gimmick or real new kid on the block for action cams?
You have answered some of those questions. Thanks and good luck!

Hi. Thanks for watching! This is fixed focus.

Thank you my friend I appreciate you! I hope they change their ways. Cheers!
I am eagerly waiting the DJI 5 Pro...... I think any new edition will be 1 inch or fail.....even GoPro will have to rise up
Three months later, i don't agree with all your points but what really worries me is the amount of resources Insta360 spends on promoting the Ace/Ace Pro.
What is better than insta 360 one rs vs, ace pro?
If I'm honest I've never had the chance to test the one RS ...sorry :(
The Ace Pro is unusable for vlogging, you are totally out of focus.

@@HillPhantom the action 4 does not have this close up focus issue?
@@hygyke so they all do bc of the fixed focus but I have to say, this one from a foot or two away is in focus, the Insta was out of focus from 2 to 3 feet away. There Are some fixes via attaching a diopter but for me that does not make sense if I want to turn the camera around and shoot landscape, I would have to take off that diopter. Not idea IMO of course.
@@HillPhantom thanks. I've no problem with fixed focus if it do what it advertise (I think 40cm was it on ace pro and dj osmo action 4).

Saw same issue! Hopefully they fix alot of this with an update.
Totally agree, I had the experience try to edit an insta360 footage in davinci resolve, the color grading is
a nightmare due to the camera is not able of giving more color.
Many people buy because the better resolution and bit rate but you notice the difference in 8bit colors vs 10 bits of the gopro and
the color profiles that even doesn't have insta 360.

Thank you for being honest I was so close to getting it but now I'm going for dji
Just to be clear the free replacement lens that insta360 is providing is only during the 1-year warranty after that you're on your own
Ty. Great point!
much better if you can compare to a DJI and GoPro 12 side by side.
Wicked sick for that application mate, you will enjoy it. Thanks for the comment and watch!
I could tell from all the test footage that the quality just isn't there. It's good for low-light, but that's all it's good for. Every other area of performance, it is nowhere as good as even the older GoPro cameras.
Fully agree to so much for watching!
We need more youtubers who do honest reviews and expose companies when they're approached with the opportunity of doing a paid review to crap on their competitors
Honestly im lost now, I'm selling my hero 11(money issues) and i'm already looking on what to save for to buy in couple months, but apparently all 3 major brands are scam... man :/
-I was looking to get the ace pro since I dont feel like the ace pro 2 upgrade is worth the extra cost
-gopro absolutely sucks, I need a good low light quality because I ride a lot in the dark
-and I'm not trusting dji anymore after they sponsored mkbhd's dangerous video stunt
while I dont support what marques did(going 90mph in a 35mph zone) dji sadly seems to be the best choice, what a shame because the ace pro flip up screen is what I actually need
Ayyye thank so much! I will always keep it 100! I can at least give my opinion
- I don't think its worth the upgrade for the Ace Pro 2 personally
- GoGro you nailed it, prb the best in sunlight, the worst in dark
- My personal take, its prob more on MKB than on DJI.
I think the key there is making sure you are shooting in correct speed, rate, iso, or least limiting those factors with auto but make sure its always in D LOG for low light
The 4 is selling pretty cheap right now, I was in the same boat, I had a GOPro 9 (lol) but tested all these and returned most.
No. You forget to mention something. For vlog the foreground is always in focus if used by Shaq's hand.
Ok
I could not find any better points others than low light with this camera, too. I have watched a lot of videos and you right in my perspective.
Thank you so much! I found two more issues that I am just finishing up editing the video ...not good man, not good at all mate. It's headed back and I just got the Pocket 3 today!
@@HillPhantom Wow look at you! I am looking forward to your really cool review.
@@KimchimanInSeoul hey thank you! I subbed to your channel keep up the good work as well!
honestly i like your honesty!…subscribed!👍👍👍
Hey Joe thank you so much and welcome! Happy to have you aboard! Appreciate you
Wow, to me the footage looks great. Honestly, I couldn’t have noticed any of those issues you’ve mentioned.
I prefer the DJI color and quality personally, but can see how folks also like the insta for sure!
Audio is on point though 👌
Yea does a pretty good job
Thanks for the criticism of these cameras. I was really off put by all the videos showing it to be so damn good. Im coming from a Hero+ thats 10 years old so everything will be better, but im also looking fof the best bang for my buck
I love my GoPro 12 for day light and ordered my pocket3 for low light…nice video
Ty mat, just subbed to you channel! I have heard the GoPro does the best in day light and sun!

But yes right now for vloggers I think it's a no go for now
i wont use AI if i can avoid it. yeah that pocket 3 is also on my radar
Cheers.
That was very informative and revealing. I appreciate you being willing to give your honest opinion.
Many, Many, thanks for you time and comment my friend! More coming soon, been sick, but back on two feet! Cheers and thank you again. - Hill.
🎉I have both the action 4 and ace pro and the Ace Pro looks better and had less distortion while kayak fishing.
@@BassManStrikessame for me , My ace pro looks better than Action4
Insta360 had to put an ad on your video. lol
Yes they been on my tail for exposing them on multiple fronts.
Hey bro, this is an excellent video. Your commentary is clear and coherent. Plus, it is highly informative. Thank you, Theodore.
Poetry that means so much to me, thank you, so kind mate. Appreciate it so very much. Cheers!
@@HillPhantom , thanks for your excellent recommendation. Hooraah, Ted.
Insta360 haven't done themselves any favours. I expected a big increase in picture quality after all the hype but get better results from my insta360 go 3 and even my insta360 rs one
Next time they release a new camera I will wait a month or 2 until it has been reviewed by honest people like yourself and ignore the YT grifters.
That's good to know, do you like the Go3, I am seriously considering it.
Zoom quality and low light is on a nother level compared to competition
It’s an action cam, not a video-log cam, so I guess it makes sense to focus on the background so to speak.
