I really commend you on your stance with the ethics of insta360 and everything that you did. I know that that wasn't an easy decision and insta360 does make some decent cameras but me personally I stay away from for the same exact reason. It's just not good for us. I did want to get a hold of an ace Pro 2. To compare it with the DJI pocket. 3. And then I found out that you can't buy them on Amazon. You can't buy them at Best Buy. They never released it to any big box stores and I found out that the return policy stated that had to be within 15 days and you couldn't take it out of the box and the fact that you still can't get it at any big box stores seems a little sketchy to me
I'll give Insta360 credit where it's due, their highlight control in low light is impressive. It balances bright streetlights and headlights really well without losing too much detail in the dark. One of those features you don't notice until you need it
Gotta say the stabilization on AP2 really shines in low light... GP tends to get a bit jittery when the lighting isn’t great, but AP2 stays stable and clear
I am still using aco pro1 and is great, as focus distance, when I cycle or holiday the camera is always filming at more than 1 m away. So no probs. I had action 5 pro but send it back as the sky was all purple and no clarity in the clouds
I'm not a face shooter so I prefer the Ace Pro 2 image. Landscape image colors look fine to me especially clouds. The flip screen convenience alone for my style of shooting(point and shoot straight out of camera, hiking, boating and travel) is the winning feature and the zoom on the Ace Pro 2 is outstanding. Always value your reviews 🙂
From all the videos i’ve seen, Go Pro has by far the best colors and quality in good lighting. The Ace Pro 2 has the best low light. The Action 5 pro is decent middle ground that looks more ‘digital’ than go pro in good lighting and can handle low light. I wish Go Pro could do low light, it’d be near perfect then. It has the best magnetic mounting system now and built in gps. Hoping their next camera has a larger sensor, 4:2:2 10 bit, and higher bitrate.
@@AbelVlogsRD Gopro performs phenomenally well in bright snow conditions in many ways than the other cameras. However, you should see comparisons from other content creators in different variety of conditions depending on the surrounding landscapes and environment. I would suggest the GoPro for snow sports if that's your priority, however, their sensor is outdated producing a darker image, narrower field of view, and higher distortion. Non of the cameras are perfect.
@@AbelVlogsRD that’s what I said exactly on my comment. But hey, if they send you a paycheck, no matter how muddy the image is, it will look clear as day. Lol.
wdym can you ready the logo in the clip you selected lol. he has it zoomed in 200%. ones an 8k vs 4k readout. of course you'll be able to see more in 200% increase. lol
are you serious? I show how crappy the dynamic range of the AP2 is compared to the other ones lol. it is terrible unless you shoot in the HDR mode which then look very artificial
Agreed. AP2 and GP13 seem to handle highlights and shadows better, esp the snow's texture and contrast in darker areas. 06:47 I hate to say it but OA5 appears to lose some detail... The image feels a bit flat and fake...
It’s funny how he talks like the action 5 doesn’t have HDR turned on indefinitely. Lol. I can only imagine how muddy the image will become once a toggle is added to turn it off. It’s on by default. I guess biases will keep you blind.
D Log 10 bit on GoPro and Action. Remember the Insta hasnt got D log so its shooting in normal thats why you are seeing it like that but post production is where you will see the real difference in D Log.
As Motovlogger, Ace Pro 2 is for me. AP2 is doing an Excellent job at focusing the background. As a man, I prefer the camera to focus on the background where I'm going rather than myself. But if you are a beautiful young girl, H13 & A5P might be better.
So pleased with your review Jake as I am tired of all the negative reviews about GoPro it’s like everyone wants to see them fail. I’m very much an amateur photographer but in my eyes the image on GoPros are just more pleasing to the eye. Not only that but as someone who doesn’t want to spend too much time on colour grading, for me it looks great straight out of the camera. What so many people don’t accept is that an action camera is built for action in predominantly bright conditions. They are not designed to replace a video camera or stills camera or to perform well in low light. Use action cameras for ACTION and accept their limitations.
Exactly right. I have been critical of GoPro in the past when they made dumb design choices or had problematic software but their image quality is still excellent
Looking at the difference at 1:33 and 4:25 I don't think you're using the same color among the 3, the ace pro 2 is clearly using a different color profile. I am sorry but this does not look like a fair comparison
@@JakeSloan It's funny that you included affiliate links for both dji and gopro in your description, but you didn't include one for insta. And you literally stated you used ap2's leica standard color in another comment bruh😂does dji and gopro has leica colors?
What do you think about these action cameras? while each one does have their strengths I definitely feel like the weakest overall is the Insta360 Ace Pro 2...
Thanks for the video Jake. Please pin your comment (click three dots, then 'pin comment') so your 'author' comment doesn't get buried in all the comments, it'll keep it at the top for everyone to see. Keep up the good work!
4:15 to 4:20 look at the ground and the snow tracks, definitely cannot say the insta lacks detail, not does the gopro. The DJI on the other hand ... Also in the woods go to around 3:26 and look at the trees across in the background - the DJI offers a fog, also look at the face artifacts at the same timestamp and speak of image softness - the DJI makes you beardless :). When you say you bought the DJI to REPLACE the camera they sent you it is not the same as they did not sent you a camera to review for this video. You should be clear if you were supported by DJI to make the video or not, no one cares if you bought something because you broke what you were sent. Be honest.
I WAS NOT SUPPORTED BY DJI TO MAKE THIS VIDEO. clear enough? The one they sent me as destroyed before I made this video (I did make other videos with it) so I purchased another along with the gopro and ace pro to make this video.
@@JakeSloan so you were sent a camera from DJI but it was not for this specific video but for another one. Clear enough. It will be also great if you address the DJI image quality issues I pointed above to fully commit to the fairness part. Thanks for taking the time to respond.
@@ofchiof course and yes in some cases the ace pro looks better and this is the reason I put all the footage side by side. You can see and decide which camera best suits your needs based on what you see. Cheers!
@@ofchiit feels a little off allover. In the first review OM5 vs GP13 a couple month ago the GP looked mushy and less detailed and in the comments it was mentioned Bitrate don't matter. Now is see this video here and the OM5 is by far the worst when it comes to details. The mentioned timestamps are super bad on the OM5 and its getting worse at 11:05 where there absolutely no details in the snow in the background. No tracks nothing on the OM5. I'm happy that I went with the GP13 just yesterday and even bumped the Bitrate to 200 thanks to labs. DJI is also known for giving NDAs for day 1 reviewers who received the cam for free so that makes sense. Though I have to say that the OM5 have a lot QoL features which I'd love to have on the GP, like the fast charging, oled screens etc. But imagine quality is the most important for me and there the OM5 fails. Even with the latest Firmware and Bitrate bump the OM5 still lacks behind, beside the fact that now the claimed battery life is ruined.
Thanks for the phenomenal comparison review Jake! This helped me narrow down between the AcePro 2 and Action 5 Pro, with the latter being the clear winner for my use case. Merry Christmas!
Close focus is bad on the ace pro 2? 2:02 I can read your beany brand on both the gopro and ace pro 2 but not on the oa5. So it’s in focus and action 5 isnt? Less detail? 3:43 i can see tire tracks on both ace pro 2 and gopro, as there is almost none on the action 5. Same goes for the background. I see details for both gopro and ace pro 2 and almost none existent on the action 5 pro. Also for this to be fair, both gopro and ace pro 2 has to be on HDR, cause the action 5 pro has this turned on indefinitely. Also, I really do believe the ace pro 2 is on a different color profile and not the normal color profile. Of all the videos I’ve watched, and I watched a ton of them. None had that sky color on the normal color profile. That’s way too blue.
I show HDR on and off examples with the ace pro 2 and it's not so much close focus issues (which it does have) as it is over sharpened look no matter the sharpness settings and this was all filmed in normal color on the cameras
@@JakeSloan i think you tested it wrong. Ace pro 2 is not meant to edit the footage in dlog it meant to be frictionless and capture and feature based to help make the work load faster and easier for content creator. totally different market from oa4.
Hello, thank you for this helpful video. I considered the Action 5 Pro for POV skiing videos, as sharpness and clarity in snow footage are crucial for capturing a broader perspective of the surrounding landscapes and environment. However, I wasn’t entirely impressed with the Action 5 Pro's clarity and sharpness in expansive scenes like mountains and snow, as the footage often has a blueish tint and struggles with rougher textures, especially over larger ranges. I wanted to ask if you’ve noticed a loss of detail with Action 5 on certain textures during the recording. While some suggest the Action 5 Pro appears oversharpened, I find it lacks clarity and depth on rough surfaces like gravel, snow, concrete roads, structures, and even vegetation, whereas other cameras seem to preserve sharper detail, especially in snow, maintaining the realistic snow tone color. Do you think these issues, such as the blueish tint and lack of depth, can be fixed through settings adjustments, color grading, or a firmware update to enhance clarity and improve texture highlights? My priority is the best image quality for snow and mountain ranges similar to your footage in Alaska.
@@JakeSloan Pardon my persistence with these questions. I mainly wanted to ask if there’s potential for the Action 5 Pro to achieve results comparable to other cameras by adjusting sharpness and color grading to enhance clarity and improve texture highlights in expansive scenes like mountains and snow. Please share your insight and experience about this camera Action 5.
You should've paid good attention to the details in this video. You can see that the GoPro has by far the best clarity and contrast when you look at the mountains/trees in the background. For me it's a no brainer that in good lighting condition the other 2 cameras don't come even close to the GoPro.
@@gabrielavastye7208 Gopro performs phenomenally well in bright snow conditions in many ways than the other cameras. GoPro might be a great option for snow sports in capturing detail if that's the priority, however, their sensor is outdated producing a darker image, narrower field of view, and higher distortion. None of the cameras are perfect. that's just my opinion and the primary reason why I'm interested in the action 5.
@@Untied_Shoelace agreed. I think that different cameras perform differently in different environments. For example I’m an fpv pilot and would use the GoPro for daylight outdoor shooting. For indoor fpv I’d always use the action 5 due to its better lowlight performance and dynamic range. Also less warping of the edges when you pan on the action 5 compared to the GoPro
Greetings from Belarus. Bought DJI Action 5. Bigger sensor = less noise. I finished with GoPro on the sixth version. 13 GoPro looks decent, but the sensor is small. For those who shoot their face, this is a decisive factor, but there is Pocket 3 for such purposes. Thanks for the comparison.
The best comparison review I have seen on these camera. And one of the few that doesn't spend almost the entire review talking low-light. Most of us record in the daylight. It's either the Hero 13 or the Action 5, both look good with plenty of light. I own the Action 5 and I can tell you where the video quality really shines is when you record in D-LOG M. If you do most of your filming at night, the AcePro 2 could be the camera for you. Great video, and thanks for sharing Jake.
there is also one thing which I can see - pink'ish skin tones from both Action and Insta. Gopro colours are more neutral. Sure you can take a bit of the tint off in the postprocessing but it won't sort the issue 100%
I have fogging issue on my ace pro 2 i use it as a motovlov and my speed is only 30-kmph normal days I'm from Philippines. Video recording 2.7k frms video duration less than an hour every time the camera heat and there's a wind only mild wind the lens has fog. What should i do?
Here’s my take: Since I’m using the GP10, my options are to either upgrade to the GP12 (to save on battery costs) or choose between the GP13 and the OA5-AP2 is off the table for me now. We’ll be filming outdoor adventures in Alaska all winter, including overnight tent camping and stays in public-use cabins. Come spring, we’re heading to Southeast Asia for a few weeks to explore day and night street food markets. I was hoping the GP would be the obvious choice, but since I’ll need to buy new batteries anyway, the OA5 is becoming a serious contender.
I had gopro 10 before and it would not record longer than around 30 minutes in -10c while my Action 3 (back then) would record for an hour with still a lot of battery left.
In terms of color science and contrast GoPro 13 is in another league. The others 2 don't come even close in this field. However, I do think Action 5 Pro is much better to use indoors due to its higher dynamic range and less warping of the edges.
I wonder if the color science for Action 5 in the snow, trees, and distant mountains could be sharper and stand out from each other to achieve results comparable to other cameras. I'm not a fan of the Action 5's blue tones and HDR look.
I noticed that as well. So much extra detail in the snow and mountain side (shadows a little dark though). Sharpness on the jacket really popped as well at the same time. I ordered an Action 5 pro (my first DJI), but might play around with some of my older go pros to see if the detail is there as well.
Thanks much Jake. I ordered the Action 5. The background in the GoPro footage looked detailed but also over sharpened. I like the size and utility of the Action 5.
Good fair review. I've had GoPro's for many years, and tried the Action 3, but still favor the GoPro despite the lower battery time. One thing I think would be a good test review is to do some multicam videos and compare how GoPro sync vs Action's 5 sync would work out in the real world if using 3+ cameras. I've also installed the GoProLabs firmware for multicam LTC syncing. If your outdoors, the GPS sync is another option, but I found inconsistent. The easiest way to sync multiple GoPro's is using the QRcode with the QRControl app, which makes post-production much faster.
Hey Jake, been watching your videos since I bought an Action 5 pro, very helpful stuff especially on extreme scenarios that I can't test myself. I did test it out riding my motorcycle and it did not disappoint. Love from the Philippines!
I have been using latest firmware of Osmo Action 5 Pro in super night. They introduced 60fps for 4k in SuperNight. To be honest - no diffs. I assume, that it might improve slightly videos from the deep dives, when you need to slow-mo a bit. But in general - I didn't notice any improvements.
Loved this detailed comparison, Jake! 💙 You really covered all the important aspects for anyone looking to pick the perfect action cam. 🙌 Thank you for sharing your expertise!
Hmmm... agree about the focus on your face from the AP2, but look at 4:25 and look how bland the background is on the OA5. The GoPro and AP2 have so much more detail on the mountain, snow, etc. I just think the OA5 does a better job on the vlogger but a worse job on backgrounds (not enough contrast or sharpness = very bland).
Jake, I've watched a ton of videos on these cameras. I also purchased all three and have struggled to frame how they all compare to crown a winner. Need something for a wide range of uses. While I really love the screen on the Ace Pro 2 the images from the Action 5 Pro are also looking better overall. So NICE job and BEST I've seen for a round-up of all three. Stay warm. -JB
Very nice review! But I gotta ask, what are you using in recording your audio? It's so clean and even the footsteps can be heard. Separate audio recording for the foleys and speaking audio?
Very nice real world comparison. I just bought the Hero 13 and I think I made the right choice, given that I rarely shoot in low light. It's no surprise that Action5 and Ace Pro 2 struggle focusing at close distance, since they both have a large sensor. Large sensor makes it impossibile to focus at close distance, - it's just optics, there's no way around it - but helps a lot with low light performance. So... it depends on what you want to prioritize. With good light the Gopro looks great (color riproduction/sharpness/contrast) and that's what I I want the most.
Great Video and very helpful. I will buy a new action cam and i think i will go for the dji action 5. had many gopro and it's time for a switch. i enjoyed your 1:1 comparison. looking for focus i think the action 5 is not bad at short distance but does it have some issues with long distance? at 7:03 or 7:30 there is not much detail or how do you rate this? it looked better (for me) in your comparison video between GP13 and DA5Pro
The action 5 has a lot of flexibility in the footage to edit it how you like for contrast and colors. This was in normal mode but if you film and set it to expose at -0.3 you will get more detail in the highlights like what you see in the background behind me
I do think you're being honest but I have a similar but different take. I'm just about to finalize a very detailed comparison between the Ace Pro 2 and the action 5 and I'd be curious to discuss further. I'm 100% non-sponsored and I'm just looking to seek the truth.
@JakeSloan it's a tough decision and side by side comparisons are time consuming summing to edit and make an honest, definitive general recommendation. I had 11 categories and they tied in two so it's head to head in that regard.
Man this was helpful. I was all in on the AcePro2 because of low light but seeing the images its clear the GoPro is the look I want. And telling me about the lack of 10-bit was huge. Thanks. Great review.
I prefer the Action 5 and the GoPro. But man, its me or the auto exposure on the DJI is completly lost when there is scene with high contrast. 1:20 If you look at the sky its like it is constaly searching how to expose the scene.:O It's the same on the Ace Pro, but less aggressive (and the darker image helps hide these changes).
This is the best comparision I have seen and I totally agree (not sponsored by AcePro, miracle!). The best details and colors are for GoPro (here, in Spain, is a sunny country so... GoPro wins). In low light conditions I use my DJI Osmo Pocket 3 (I watch glittering at night in all actions cameras). I like ski and diving.... Ski at night, surf at night, BMX at night...???? It looks ridiculous to me. Action cameras are made for action sports.... in the daytime! P.D. I have watched your video in a PHILLIPS OLED 65 inches... it is easier to see the details. Congratulations!
it comes close but you end up with better image quality since you have more control over noise reduction in post. I almost exclusively use D-log m when I shoot stuff with the action just because I can lower the sharpening and noise reduction and then use my programs to adjust it in post
@ awesome, that’s what i was hoping, looking at moving from hero 12’s to the action 5 for all my cinematic rigs, will be really nice to benable to fly deeper into blue hour
Question, Jake; did you have the Action 5 in high bit mode? I’m curious because there is virtually no detail in the snow or mountains behind you on the Action 5.
yes but the lack of detail is more due to the camera exposing for the face not the overall image, that detail can be recovered in post with some basic adjustments or using D-log M
Great comparision. I see like the Action 5 smooths out the background and it's a big concern for me as I will only use it to record my skiing, mounted on my helmet. I was actually thinking of buying it as I was sick of my Sony action cam with suuuperb image quality and optical image stabilization due to its batteries dying really quickly in cold and thrown it away. I see lesser details on snow conditions and mountains at the back, compared to Gopro. And I'll mostly shoot 2K, so I'll even get less details. And how about the scene where you had trees in the background, the Action 5 looks like it's blurred the trees? They're much more vibrant and detailed, like what the real eye sees, in Gopro. So I'm a bit confused now what to buy as I know Gopro batteries will make me sick while skiing as well. But I definitely don't want those beautiful mountains and snow and trees to look like blurry in my videos. So, what do you think, is it something that's fixable with an update or another shooting mode etc?
in your scenario I would seriously consider the DJI Action 4 which has GREAT cold weather performance and almost all the features of the action 5 but I would consider it to have better image quality for what you want to film
Great analysis. I prefer the DJI although I still use the GoPro 10 to record my TH-cam videos, along with the iPhone 15. But I will move to DJI since in my opinion it has a better dynamic range.
I am really liking the DJI 5 Pro, since I am the proud owner of the Action 1 an the Action 4, I think I will wait for a good sale on the 5 pro. Love this comparison, thanks for taking the time.
This video is a lifesaver I needed honest footage at night. In my neighborhood it is a little bit scary to walk at night without some kind of a video proof against criminals and the cameras would be helpful
Really enjoy your videos. Even though you didn’t color grade these the video quality looked really good. I think I will be getting the action 5. Seeing the Ace pro 2 and Gp13 comparison further solidified my choice. Thank you.
Kinda different story for IRL streamers (webcam mode)... - GoPro is nice overall, but useless in low light so a big no go anyways. Even the Osmo Action 4 beats it. - DJI webcam mode is broken, stutters and Supernight is not available at all. Even if it suddenly was available in webcam mode it looks much worse than Pure Video on the Insta360. And whats up with the traffic cone shaped lens flare?! (All modes) -Insta360 struggles with some details and the focusing, but it works and you can use it in low light. They may not be able to fix the focusing with firmware update because its probably the physical lens, however they may be able to fix the details in the shadows etc. 3 biggest action cam manufacturers release something and they all fail, but Insta360 fails the least for IRL in my opinion. Would be very interesting to see your take on this matter, all of the cams recording to OBS as webcams (since almost all IRL streamers use encoders with SRTLA etc. and do not use their specific apps streaming modes because its mostly garbage) on a normal evening stroll down the streets or even outdoor up in Alaska (should get dark pretty early there now). All of them set to 4k30, with benefits like Pure Video/Supernight used to counter what you have alot of now, darkness. (Keep in mind they all just output 1080p30 in Webcam Mode because they have all failed with that too once again) Does not matter that much because of bandwidth usage at 4k destroys the image even more at bad reception. When it comes to 10 bit, its kinda irrelevant too since its live and no post production benefits from it. Even if you stream 10 bit, once its has been compressed for transmission its not post editing friendly anymore anyways in for example TH-cam DVR function.
I don’t consider any of them to be photo camera but you can take decent ones. 27mp for GoPro, 48mp for the action 5 and 50mp for the ace pro. Low light is what it is on GoPro or any action camera for that matter. Just not great.
AMAZING VIDEO! It made me subscribe! i got the Action 5 yesterday. ¿Do you think you can do a high bitrate + color graded 10bit+ -0.3ev stops to see if it can retain better detail on the snow behind you? I´m just really wondering why it looks so much better contrast and detail on the gopro.
yes if you expose -0.3 or even -0.7 in conditions like these you will get better detail as well as when you shoot in D-log M the HDR look goes away which also helps
Jake, thank you for the great video and detailed comparison! At mark 2:57, the GoPro’s clarity is incredible you can even see the details in your facial hairs, which really shows its sharpness. I was curious about the Insta360’s performance during the day shot in the snow, why does it look so washed out compared to the others? The wrinkles around your eyes also stand out prominently with the GoPro, which highlights its ability to capture fine details. The low-light test was what I was most curious about, and you answered all my questions perfectly-thank you for that!
thank you for saving me from making a bad purchase. I cancelled my order from insta. I wanted the insta ace 2 as a second camera alongside my dji oa5 in poor lighting conditions and at night. But also during the day for fast-moving shots at IGP dog sports. I have a gopro 12 and apart from the app and the touchscreen, which drives me crazy, I love the footage. the dji has now proven itself to be reliable alongside the gopro and I like using it.
Awesome and informative ... you helped me make up my mind on which one to buy. I have GoPro now, but I think I'm going to try the DJI Action 5 Pro this time.
Hate to say it but the GP looks the best in most of this video, the details in the snow and the mountains stand out more. However, I've owned several GoPro's and they all eventually fail whether is freezing, recording without audio or randomly shutting of so I just can't trust them anymore. I would have bought the AP2 if it was actually available anywhere but ended up with the Action 5 and a DJI Mic 2 transmitter as my new POV setup.
Great video and I am looking for a just a travel purposes to record and post as reels. Not a big fan of complicated editing will you recommend Action 5 or Go Pro? Hope you can help.
Thanks for this--I have a particular set of work use cases which require good battery life and good low-light performance--Action 5 Pro looks to be the winner.
I LOVE that all these die-hard Insta360 defending comments don't have any content on their pages. I mean you'd imagine at least one video or something. It is almost like someone with many many fake accounts are commenting then liking those comments using other accounts so they pop up.
At 6:23 you can see the detail on the face is overkill hdr on the A5 and AP2. Hate to say it but you can't miss the fact that the GP13 has better detail in this shot. I do see what people are complaining about on the A5 as far as HDR. Looks almost like a face setting is turned on. Is this the latest firmware? Might be best to grab an A4 for action situations and stick to a DJI pocket 3 for vlogging. ; ) Shame about Gopro getting behind really. They have a great image going. ; ) Thank you for this video Jake. It's nice to see and hear others views!!
Nice comparison. For someone who wants to get one for things like family vlogging which would you recommend? I want something with a simple interface since I need to learn more about the editing process.
Decided to go wirh Action 5 over Gopro this time around. GoPro footage in this video, minus low light does look so good, but i have been diggin the action 5 as well. Excited to see battery life this winter when snowboarding and temps below 20 F
Settings matched when one camera can record at a higher resolution than another doesn’t seem like fair comparison to me. That’s like not letting a basketball player dunk because another basketball player can’t dunk. Idk 🤷♂️
The GoPro looked the crispest in the day time. The action 5 looked a little dull. The GoPro looked the worst for night time. If the GoPro has improved their battery to last almost two hours then that's Great. My GoPro 8 black last about an hour and 8 minutes. The battery life on the Action 8 sounds Great! I am trying to figure out what camera to buy this weekend. I use my GoPro 8 when I am cycling. The Action 5 would come in handy for night club shooting when I am DJing. Thank you for creating this video and showing us all three cameras and voicing your opion Jake Sloan! I appreciate it very much!
I need one for skiing but don’t want to deal with go pro powering off from the coldness and I don’t like dji. Think I might have to get insta 360 what do you thing? How cold can the go pro get?
Good to see comparison. I’m GoPro user and to lazy to switch to another system. GoPro is closing the Quick app on Mac OS at end of year and going only phone 📱 I do wonder if they will be around for the long haul.
Thanks for the review! Insta360 has its advantages, but the problem with it - impossible to buy it (bummer). The delivery time of Insta360 Ace Pro 2 now is more than a month, and no guarantee, that it is true. So, among those 3 cameras - my favorite remains DJI Action 5 Pro. I use it almost every day, when I'm running or hiking.
interesting, I ordered mine on launch day from insta360 and got it a week or so later (if I remember right) it is interesting that no stores have it in stock yet.
@@JakeSloan return it for a swap if I was you. Insta360 stopped selling them because the lens fogging issue, if it's not today maybe it will happen in the future.... Even a seller on Ali confirmed this, but Insta360 ignored it publicly! "Hello, there are some issues with the lenses of the first batch of Insta360 Ace Pro 2, and the manufacturer is urgently recaling and repairing them." I am still waiting for my preorder from a local shop.
I wonder if the issues you mentioned can be fixed via firmware updates? Really bummed because I do some night riding and the Ace Pro 2 would shine there.
One thing I've noticed since all the TH-camrs I subscribe to have switched to the Insta360 AcePro2 is they all look older now. The Insta360 does something to enhance gray hair. In this your beard looks much grayer and whiter, wrinkles are enhanced and you look older on the Insta360 versus the other 2.
Great video mate. I currently have the gopro hero 9 and was considering upgrading to the hero 13 but i mostly film travel content which can be in low light so was swaying towards dji action 5 but i have quite alot of gopro accessories like the media mod and other mounts so it would be cheaper to upgrade to the gopro overall but i feel i would miss out on an opportunity to get the dji action 5 which is overall better. Any suggestions?
I agree man, In many cases, Action 5 performs well. However, I wasn’t entirely impressed with the Action 5 Pro's clarity and sharpness in expansive scenes like mountains and snow, as the footage often has a blueish tone and struggles with rougher bright textures, especially over larger ranges. Maybe the biggest cause of it is the HDR look. Additionally, I noticed that the forest is less sharpened with the snow and fog. I really hope there's an update to sharpen the image in already bright conditions and d-log m will achieve a comparable result to other cameras by adjusting sharpness and color grading to enhance clarity and improve texture highlights in expansive scenes like mountains and snow. I'm struggling with this decision as well.
unfortunately the weak point of gopro is lowlight. if you have a lot of accessories and a small light for low light filming then the gopro can do ok, otherwise the action 5 is where it's at especially if you add the DJI mic 2 in for clean audio anywhere
3:15 massive difference in colours and whit balance, saturation, contrast and so on. Hero 13 has darker overall scene, but really noticible on the jacket. Action 5 has brighter orange jacket. Trees don't have dark areas. No only is the jacket brighter but the face too. Ace Pro 2 has cooler snow, darker but more orange jacket, darker trees. I don't know which is more are closest to reality as they all look realistic but like different weather.
I’ve been researching a new action camera. Flip flopping between all of them. GoPro not really being at the top but after seeing these images from the three I’m definitely more interested in the GoPro. To my eyes it looks a lot better than the other two.
I have the same view.. I shoot in daylight and the aftermarket for GP is vast and I expansive... GP color wins me Everytime... If I start shooting in batcaves .. I will consider the other 2... Specifically the DJI
I agree, I like the GP image in perfect conditions, however overall the DJI A5P is the best. I have taken the Action 5 Pro out on the snow machine up here in Fairbanks in the white mountain rec area in temps from 5 to 15 F and it performed flawlessly and I am always blown away by how long it records for. After a couple hours I'll think "oh I need to check the camera" and yep, its still recording. DJI has to many add on features and the best price compared to the competition to not be labeled the "best".
The Acepro looks like there is a "softening" effect on your skin, it's kind of weird. The Action 5, just seems 'brighter' than the rest...GoPro seems to have more contrast and is a little sharper close up. If you weren't looking at them side by side, most people would probably be happy with any of them.
yeah it's just strange what the ace pro is doing to the image but you are right without showing them side by side people would be happy with any of them
The Action 5 Pro looks like it would have a good image at the same time as hiding a trash beard growing on a day I am to lazy to shave on. I may have to get one now in hopes I am actually wrong about the megapixel race being a bad thing.
Personally I love my Action 5 Pro. GoPro 13 is not bad. Insta360 is 💩 as expected... The AcePro cameras are so mushy feeling and the colors are off.
agreed!
They never released it to any big box stores and I found out that the return policy stated that had to be within 15 days and you couldn't take it out of the box and the fact that you still can't get it at any big box stores seems a little sketchy to me
The color of ACEPRO2 is always wrong, see 1:13, purple snow and sky?
@@blueCollarGuyCostco carries the Insta360x4 and Apple also. So they do have them in the 🇺🇸.
@CubamusPrime Ace pro 2 not in Canada Amazon or Best buy. Only older model
I'll give Insta360 credit where it's due, their highlight control in low light is impressive. It balances bright streetlights and headlights really well without losing too much detail in the dark. One of those features you don't notice until you need it
Yep and one thing I called out and gave them credit for in this video
Gotta say the stabilization on AP2 really shines in low light... GP tends to get a bit jittery when the lighting isn’t great, but AP2 stays stable and clear
yep thats true
I am still using aco pro1 and is great, as focus distance, when I cycle or holiday the camera is always filming at more than 1 m away. So no probs. I had action 5 pro but send it back as the sky was all purple and no clarity in the clouds
Interesting thanks for sharing
I'm not a face shooter so I prefer the Ace Pro 2 image. Landscape image colors look fine to me especially clouds. The flip screen convenience alone for my style of shooting(point and shoot straight out of camera, hiking, boating and travel) is the winning feature and the zoom on the Ace Pro 2 is outstanding. Always value your reviews 🙂
thank you!
One of the best comparison videos I’ve seen about these 3 cameras. Because I film occasionally in low light, I went with the DJI. Thanks!
Thank you very much
From all the videos i’ve seen, Go Pro has by far the best colors and quality in good lighting.
I agree!
Thats what I've seen too! The gopro colors look the most natural
Details at 2:02 are the reason why I chose GoPro over DJI. I thought the Action5 would solve the focus problem but no
Not quite but better than the ace pro
@ Better? Can you read the beanie brand there? Come on Bruh
Lol.
wdym can you ready the logo in the clip you selected lol. he has it zoomed in 200%. ones an 8k vs 4k readout. of course you'll be able to see more in 200% increase. lol
The dynamic range on the ap2 looks a lot better tho, especially in scenes with strong contrast...
Don’t tell him that. Lol. AP2 is lacking details he said.
are you serious?
The background on the acepro 2 looks way sharper to me... You can actually see more texture and detail in the distance compared to the other cameras
There is more detail when you film in 8k mode but in all modes it looks artificially sharpened
D Log 10 bit on GoPro and Action. Remember the Insta hasnt got D log so its shooting in normal thats why you are seeing it like that but post production is where you will see the real difference in D Log.
Ace pro it looks much better in 8k mode .. right ?
it has more detail but it still looks artificially sharpened AND is still out of focus on my face
As Motovlogger, Ace Pro 2 is for me. AP2 is doing an Excellent job at focusing the background. As a man, I prefer the camera to focus on the background where I'm going rather than myself. But if you are a beautiful young girl, H13 & A5P might be better.
Fair enough!
Hi my insta 360 ace pro 2 doesn't have the problems she had... in the snow I made excellent videos, yours will have a problem, send it for assistance
I have seen similar problems in a lot of other videos on TH-cam as well so it’s not limited to mine.
@@JakeSloanwell, that sucks. Sounds like they need to send out “recall” notices 😬
Looking at the difference at 1:33 and 4:25 I don't think you're using the same color among the 3, the ace pro 2 is clearly using a different color profile. I am sorry but this does not look like a fair comparison
It was using the same profile through out. This isn’t some grand conspiracy to do an unfair review. Some modes on the ace pro just look like garbage
@@JakeSloan It's funny that you included affiliate links for both dji and gopro in your description, but you didn't include one for insta. And you literally stated you used ap2's leica standard color in another comment bruh😂does dji and gopro has leica colors?

The best review of these 3 I've seen so far! Thank you Jake!
Wow, thanks!
GoPro has much more detail in regards to the Action 5 and better colors, the AcePro2 is way too much artificially over shapen and colors are off.
100% agree
What do you think about these action cameras? while each one does have their strengths I definitely feel like the weakest overall is the Insta360 Ace Pro 2...
Why the sky and snow of ACEPRO 2 in 1:13 is purple?
Great comparison Jake. One of the best and most unbiased I’ve seen so far!
Appreciate that!
Thanks for the phenomenal comparison review Jake! This helped me narrow down between the AcePro 2 and Action 5 Pro, with the latter being the clear winner for my use case. Merry Christmas!
Glad I could help!
I find for better sharpness and contrast straight out of camera I prefer the action 4 which is excellent
Best comparison on the subject! Side by side videos - love what you did!! Thank You!
Thank you and you are welcome
Greetings from Belarus. Bought DJI Action 5. Bigger sensor = less noise. I finished with GoPro on the sixth version. 13 GoPro looks decent, but the sensor is small. For those who shoot their face, this is a decisive factor, but there is Pocket 3 for such purposes. Thanks for the comparison.
Agreed
The best comparison review I have seen on these camera. And one of the few that doesn't spend almost the entire review talking low-light. Most of us record in the daylight. It's either the Hero 13 or the Action 5, both look good with plenty of light. I own the Action 5 and I can tell you where the video quality really shines is when you record in D-LOG M. If you do most of your filming at night, the AcePro 2 could be the camera for you. Great video, and thanks for sharing Jake.
Thank you and you are spot on!
there is also one thing which I can see - pink'ish skin tones from both Action and Insta. Gopro colours are more neutral. Sure you can take a bit of the tint off in the postprocessing but it won't sort the issue 100%
You can shoot in log on the action 5 and match it to whatever you like but straight out of colors from GoPro are pretty good
@@JakeSloan log could sort it I guess
I have fogging issue on my ace pro 2 i use it as a motovlov and my speed is only 30-kmph normal days I'm from Philippines. Video recording 2.7k frms video duration less than an hour every time the camera heat and there's a wind only mild wind the lens has fog. What should i do?
Interesting I have heard of this from a few other people as well
@JakeSloan I bought it online not in insta36p website should i return this?
Simple fix. Just get some defogging spray and wipe it on the lens. The same stuff you use for defogging diving masks
Definitely deserves consideration
1st it's bettery life and 2nd - internal storage.
I had gopro 10 before and it would not record longer than around 30 minutes in -10c while my Action 3 (back then) would record for an hour with still a lot of battery left.
@@rjfotovideo what camera are you using now?
In terms of color science and contrast GoPro 13 is in another league. The others 2 don't come even close in this field. However, I do think Action 5 Pro is much better to use indoors due to its higher dynamic range and less warping of the edges.
Agreed
Agreed, big time
I wonder if the color science for Action 5 in the snow, trees, and distant mountains could be sharper and stand out from each other to achieve results comparable to other cameras. I'm not a fan of the Action 5's blue tones and HDR look.
I 1000% disagree the GoPro has the WORST colors of all 3. Tons of videos showing the GoPro blows out colors, or is just too dark.
Wow the sharpness seems to be actually perfect on the Gopro, I like the darker, less saturated blues too...but I love the Action 5 Pro!
same!
I noticed that as well. So much extra detail in the snow and mountain side (shadows a little dark though). Sharpness on the jacket really popped as well at the same time. I ordered an Action 5 pro (my first DJI), but might play around with some of my older go pros to see if the detail is there as well.
16:12 The footage from DJI Pocket 3 looks amazing. Thats the real winner here!
agreed!!
Hi Jake, as always excellent test of these cameras. Did you film in flat on all cameras
In most cases I filmed in normal except where I was talking about log. Those clips were filmed in each cameras log profile
Thanks much Jake. I ordered the Action 5. The background in the GoPro footage looked detailed but also over sharpened. I like the size and utility of the Action 5.
Awesome!
This is the first non biased review between all 3 cameras, and GoPro is still top, not everyone lucky enough to have footage in arctic.

Like the sharpness of Gopro, Like the Dynamic range of Ace pro2, but overall the image quality of Action 5 look nicer and cinematic to my eyes
interesting, I definitely prefer the dynamic range of the action 5 or gopro
@@JakeSloan This year definitely The Action 5 is winner
where can you find the dynamic range of Acepro 2?
Good fair review. I've had GoPro's for many years, and tried the Action 3, but still favor the GoPro despite the lower battery time. One thing I think would be a good test review is to do some multicam videos and compare how GoPro sync vs Action's 5 sync would work out in the real world if using 3+ cameras. I've also installed the GoProLabs firmware for multicam LTC syncing. If your outdoors, the GPS sync is another option, but I found inconsistent. The easiest way to sync multiple GoPro's is using the QRcode with the QRControl app, which makes post-production much faster.
yeah thats a huge win for sure
Hey Jake, been watching your videos since I bought an Action 5 pro, very helpful stuff especially on extreme scenarios that I can't test myself. I did test it out riding my motorcycle and it did not disappoint. Love from the Philippines!
Great to hear and thank you.
Hey - what firmware are you shooting on the action 5 pro? The lates one (v01.02.03.30) claimes to improve the super night mode.

Hmmm... agree about the focus on your face from the AP2, but look at 4:25 and look how bland the background is on the OA5. The GoPro and AP2 have so much more detail on the mountain, snow, etc. I just think the OA5 does a better job on the vlogger but a worse job on backgrounds (not enough contrast or sharpness = very bland).
Good point
Jake, I've watched a ton of videos on these cameras. I also purchased all three and have struggled to frame how they all compare to crown a winner. Need something for a wide range of uses. While I really love the screen on the Ace Pro 2 the images from the Action 5 Pro are also looking better overall. So NICE job and BEST I've seen for a round-up of all three. Stay warm. -JB
thank you very much!
Very nice review! But I gotta ask, what are you using in recording your audio? It's so clean and even the footsteps can be heard. Separate audio recording for the foleys and speaking audio?
Actually this audio was just recorded with the onboard microphone of the various action cameras!
Exactly right and you made a great choice
Very good comparison video Jake
Thanks Lyn I appreciate that!
I'm 100% non-sponsored and I'm just looking to seek the truth.
interesting how has your experience been?
@JakeSloan it's a tough decision and side by side comparisons are time consuming summing to edit and make an honest, definitive general recommendation. I had 11 categories and they tied in two so it's head to head in that regard.
Man this was helpful. I was all in on the AcePro2 because of low light but seeing the images its clear the GoPro is the look I want. And telling me about the lack of 10-bit was huge. Thanks. Great review.
Glad I could help!
Excellent comarisons! thanx! Helped me a lot to decide
glad to hear it
Thanks for the effort! Did you turn off noise reduction in these comparisons?
I kept noise reduction off for all of this
which one of them comes with optical zoom? Thank you
I prefer the Action 5 and the GoPro. But man, its me or the auto exposure on the DJI is completly lost when there is scene with high contrast. 1:20 If you look at the sky its like it is constaly searching how to expose the scene.:O
It's the same on the Ace Pro, but less aggressive (and the darker image helps hide these changes).
you can always lock exposure and DJI did release a firmware update a few days ago that might help with this
Nice comparison thanks Jake👍
Thanks!
Couldn't agree more!
When there's light, GoPro reigns supreme. 🤴
Yeah it’s good
How's the DJI Super Night Mode compare to shooting it in log and then boosting the shadows in post?
it comes close but you end up with better image quality since you have more control over noise reduction in post.
But I will move to DJI since in my opinion it has a better dynamic range.
nice!
I went from the GoPro 10 to the DJI Action 4 and it was a HUGE upgrade! You’ll love it!
Fantastic review as always. Thanks.

nothing beats gopro video quality in all action camera
it's still the original
I am really liking the DJI 5 Pro, since I am the proud owner of the Action 1 an the Action 4, I think I will wait for a good sale on the 5 pro. Love this comparison, thanks for taking the time.
Good choice!
This video is a lifesaver I needed honest footage at night. In my neighborhood it is a little bit scary to walk at night without some kind of a video proof against criminals and the cameras would be helpful
yikes
Really enjoy your videos. Even though you didn’t color grade these the video quality looked really good. I think I will be getting the action 5. Seeing the Ace pro 2 and Gp13 comparison further solidified my choice. Thank you.
You're welcome, I didn't color grade these are they were mostly shot in a normal color profile.
(All modes)
-Insta360 struggles with some details and the focusing, but it works and you can use it in low light.
Hmm interesting thoughts on live-streaming
Are there any advanced settings you can use to rescue the GoPro's night video? And what about photos from each?
@JakeSloan thank you for the quick answer! :D love this camera. Its sooo small.
In Jake we trust....the gopro is much better than other youtubers give it credit...you look like you shaved with the AP2
ROFL. That’s a great take on it 😂
Jake, thank you for the great video and detailed comparison! The low-light test was what I was most curious about, and you answered all my questions perfectly-thank you for that!
so glad I was able to hit all those points for you!
thank you for saving me from making a bad purchase.
I was hoping for more from the insta360 but it just doesn't deliver
Awesome and informative ... you helped me make up my mind on which one to buy. I have GoPro now, but I think I'm going to try the DJI Action 5 Pro this time.
Glad I could help!
Turn face priority on the ace pro 2
I did in some cases but I did not like it
Hate to say it but the GP looks the best in most of this video, the details in the snow and the mountains stand out more. However, I've owned several GoPro's and they all eventually fail whether is freezing, recording without audio or randomly shutting of so I just can't trust them anymore. I would have bought the AP2 if it was actually available anywhere but ended up with the Action 5 and a DJI Mic 2 transmitter as my new POV setup.
nice setup!
nobody talks about the app.... the insta360 is the best.... for avarage people the editting process will help more than quality
true, gopros app is also excellent for the same reasons
Great video and I am looking for a just a travel purposes to record and post as reels. Not a big fan of complicated editing will you recommend Action 5 or Go Pro? Hope you can help.
gopro has their app with editing support built in I would do that
Thanks for this--I have a particular set of work use cases which require good battery life and good low-light performance--Action 5 Pro looks to be the winner.
Glad it was helpful!
I LOVE that all these die-hard Insta360 defending comments don't have any content on their pages. I mean you'd imagine at least one video or something. It is almost like someone with many many fake accounts are commenting then liking those comments using other accounts so they pop up.
Yeah it’s so weird right? 😂
Very useful comparison. Well done! Thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Agreed. GoPro still has great image quality. I hope they survive.
Amazing comparison. Thank you!
My pleasure!
Nice comparison. For someone who wants to get one for things like family vlogging which would you recommend? I want something with a simple interface since I need to learn more about the editing process.
I’d recommend the action 4 or 5 honestly.
Decided to go wirh Action 5 over Gopro this time around. GoPro footage in this video, minus low light does look so good, but i have been diggin the action 5 as well. Excited to see battery life this winter when snowboarding and temps below 20 F
Nice you definitely picked the right one for cold weather.
Settings matched when one camera can record at a higher resolution than another doesn’t seem like fair comparison to me. That’s like not letting a basketball player dunk because another basketball player can’t dunk. Idk 🤷♂️
settings like wb sharpness noise reduction shutter speed etc...
@ Thanks for the reply! I understand. I guess I thought that meant all cameras set to 4k
there are examples where all cameras where set to 4k as well...
I appreciate it very much!
you are welcome!
Switched from GoPro 9 (still around since 2019) to Action 5 Pro recently. DJI nailed it with Action 5 Pro and probably edged out GoPro from the Crown.
yeah DJI really delivered on the action 5
Which one you suggest for mountain biking and road cycling? I don’t ride at night, but some trails might have shadows…
Action 4 or action 5 for sure
I need one for skiing but don’t want to deal with go pro powering off from the coldness and I don’t like dji. Think I might have to get insta 360 what do you thing? How cold can the go pro get?
Idk for sure but the action series has been by far the best in cold temps for me.
Good to see comparison. I’m GoPro user and to lazy to switch to another system. GoPro is closing the Quick app on Mac OS at end of year and going only phone 📱 I do wonder if they will be around for the long haul.
honestly no big reason to switch. anything that has come out in the last few years has been great
Thanks for the review!
Just checked your latest D-LOG review. Educative, and I would like to see also HLG test under different condition.
Your reviews of DJI OA5 Pro convinced me to buy one!
interesting, I ordered mine on launch day from insta360 and got it a week or so later (if I remember right) it is interesting that no stores have it in stock yet.
@@JakeSloan return it for a swap if I was you. Insta360 stopped selling them because the lens fogging issue, if it's not today maybe it will happen in the future.... Even a seller on Ali confirmed this, but Insta360 ignored it publicly!
"Hello, there are some issues with the lenses of the first batch of Insta360 Ace Pro 2, and the manufacturer is urgently recaling and repairing them."
I am still waiting for my preorder from a local shop.
@@sokarim Oh, interesting! That's must why impossible to buy this camera anywhere. Thanks!
This was very helpful. Color grading with different sources can be hard enough and it’s easier with more data.
Glad it was helpful!
I wonder if the issues you mentioned can be fixed via firmware updates? Really bummed because I do some night riding and the Ace Pro 2 would shine there.
some can be for sure but some are hardware (close focus distance for example)
One thing I've noticed since all the TH-camrs I subscribe to have switched to the Insta360 AcePro2 is they all look older now.
The Insta360 does something to enhance gray hair. In this your beard looks much grayer and whiter, wrinkles are enhanced and you look older on the Insta360 versus the other 2.
interesting! I hadn't looked at those details before lol
To me the action 5 looks closest to what I see with my eyes.
Specifically the DJI
gopro has fantastic image quality overall
I agree, I like the GP image in perfect conditions, however overall the DJI A5P is the best. I have taken the Action 5 Pro out on the snow machine up here in Fairbanks in the white mountain rec area in temps from 5 to 15 F and it performed flawlessly and I am always blown away by how long it records for. After a couple hours I'll think "oh I need to check the camera" and yep, its still recording. DJI has to many add on features and the best price compared to the competition to not be labeled the "best".
100% the best performance in cold temps has been the action for me too
The Acepro looks like there is a "softening" effect on your skin, it's kind of weird.
Hahahahaah yeah just turn the sharpness down 😂
