2050 Climate Forecast for South Carolina

  • The biggest challenge facing South Carolina is flooding. Tropical storm type rains are likely to hit the state more often, causing flooding well inland and towards the coast. Coastal flooding will get worse with sea level rise, but it's not as bad a coastal outlook as you might think. The whole northern coast is looking pretty good! And the populated sea islands have very interesting resilience potential- there's a lot these communities could do to get ready.
    If South Carolina can take care of its inland soil in the face of these drenching rains, the state could be in a good position for the future. It'll get hotter, but with less relative change than many parts of the country or the region. We're talking northern Florida hot, not apocalypse hot. Good all-around resilience potential for the state.
