Important step: if you want to package your project and/or have these accessible to other team members via version control make sure to add your files within the project using the "Content/Movies/ExampleFolderName" directory. The PNGs won't appear in Unreal but will if you right-click the folders and select show in explorer. It's a bit like Unity's /Resources folder. Otherwise great video!

For those trying to add PNG with Alpha.... on 5:42 you have to change the material type to allow Opacity input, then connect the A from the Texture Sample to the "Opacity" Connector. Be patient as a 10 second 25fps export on my PC took some seconds to appear, it was 250 PNG frames with transparency 5.5 Mb. each. I tried MOV filed with Quicktime Animation and Quicktime 444 with alpha those do not work under media player. Alpha only works at 5.3 with live feed from a Blackmagic card OR Bink video player and converting the video. But Bink video does not sync with Sequencer (yet).

this is super helpful!! thanks a lot, I was wondering why it was not working with video files in sequencer. my thought was that it was showing the video in "realtime" but when it is rendering the rendered scene takes longer than realtime, so for example you have a 5seconds clip in sequencer, that has a texture video with 5 seconds length, and with it renders in 15sec; then your video would look like its 3 times faster than normal on the rendered output.

Why did a 5 second 287 frame of animation explode my project by 8 gigs? Each uasset file for this is 30 megs in size... Unreal tried to convert them all to texture 2d . I used a PNG optimizer to get these down to less than 30 megs. At a standard video bit rate its quite far superior to h.264 this level of compression at 28 : 1 so what's goin on with that? Unreal wants to convert pngs to uassets on adding it to the image sequencer for some reason, and each uasset is 30 megs a pop...ouch.

You'd have to send that question to the Epic dev team

@@JonathanWinbush It was a perforce issue, we managed to fix it. Its related to deleting Saved and Intermediate directories so engine settings where not saving correctly. I had to whitelist the editor configuration files in those directrories so they populated correctly in depot for us. You should click "Ignore" when prompted to import new assets and make sure "Never ask again" is checked.

@@JonathanWinbush i made a depot clean up script that honors p4ignore in powershell. Very nice to have since reconcile never always catches everything, fixes up the .ini files that need to be there too.
