Thank you for watching my video, I appreciate the support !
This should be first video on TH-cam on diagnosing a bad starter. #testdontguess
That would be very helpful for people but TH-cam works in funny ways
Hey that's my friends car! He told me you did a great job! Glad to see it's on the road again!
Everything went smooth 👍
Probably the most decent car I've seen you work on in a while.
I can agree with that lol
Hey, that's one of the better cars you've worked on. Gotta love it when it's a nice easy diagnosis and simple parts swap, it's rarely that simple
I'm not complaining
@@themechanic6117 q
Amazing. First car I've seen on this channel that wasn't a hand hammered turd.
Once in a while i get a decent one lol
Good ole hondas. That's the cleanest odyssey I've seen in a while.
Definitely
Good channel. I like how you explain everything throughly
Thank you
I'm right there with you man. Rolling the engine over by hand is my last step before calling the starter. Cheap insurance to avoid misdiagnosis.
Hey, my 06 is doing the same thing. I'm going to test but I believe it's the starter too. I don't here the "zzzzzz' at the fuel tank either. May have to change that too, but starter first. Thank you much.
Great fix and probably one off the best cars you have had to work on lol.
Thank you. Yeah overall its pretty good
Guys, I stepped on the brake then turned the key, started right up. I have also, checked battery voltage before swapping the battery
Also, check the 150amp fuse and 50 amp fuse then the starter relay behind the drivers kick panel
Hey love the video love how you got straight to the point on the you probably help me out from doing it all on my own thank you I'm going to switch to starter
Thank you and good luck 👍
Great job Jonathan! What a wonderful customer to have! ☺️🤗🤗
Indeed . once in a while i work for nice people lol
@@themechanic6117 I’m sure they’re all nice people but it’s their vehicles that have “issues” 👍🤣🤣🤣
Thank God you use that CRC on that starter
I use it for every starter job 👍
I love that gen odyssey. My sister had an 04
I forgot to mention she bought it new and only got rid of it last year! And no transmission issues like a lot of the V6s of that generation.
Nice! I know people had issues with the trans including one of my friends who has the same van
No dissin the subscribers car Jonathan... lmao... another informative vid mate, all the best from Newcastle, NSW, AUSTRALIA 👍❤🇦🇺
😂😂 honestly I didnt find much wrong with it and i can tell the owner is trying to take care of it. I can respect that. It's easy to tell when a owner doesn't care for a car
@@themechanic6117 you would love working on cars here in Australia, none of the rust from salted Icy roads etc... everything comes apart easy... lol... what part of the country do you live Jonathan, not stalking lmao, just interesting to know what parts of the world people are from..? I wish we got snow here where I live in Australia but I'm mid east coast as you will see if you look up my location. It's a Surf city, Hot Summers averaging mid 30's celcius with tops of around 44/45 and fresh winters down to around 4/6 deg celcius at night and mid teens in the day. I rather the cooler weather any day.. 👍👍👍
Did the same thing today. Starter on an 02 Accord v6.
Yes sir! Not too bad of a job. Worse thing about bad starters is where the tow truck drops it is where its staying lol
They same happened to me on my 2000 ODYSSEY. it has 440000 km right now.
Awesome job
Thank you 💪
Fun demo, well done! I've seen that before on the starter post, I find it confusing. Presumably the drop is from minor corrosion/resistance through the signal wire or starter relay in the fuse box. Lately for fun I've been using a scope to diagnose these, since you get a file of waveforms you can save and ponder over. One channel is current through the B+ wire, one channel is voltage at the B+ post, one is current to the trigger post, and if possible one channel is voltage between the starter solenoid and motor. If the latter is not possible then the last channel could be to the B+ post of the battery itself, or maybe the signal post. It's interesting how often you see the contacts bounce when you zoom in, even in a normal starter. On my old Dodge Ram the trigger wire carries a spike of 34A, flattening out to 12A while spinning, which is surprisingly above the breaker limit for the power probe.
Using the scope is always fun. I decided to start using the scope even when i need the multi meter just to get used to always having it around. Thanks for mentioning using the scope . i can check for voltage drop on both the ground and power at the same time(two channels only)... I just need the leads to do so lol
@@themechanic6117 As I read my note again I wonder if I might piss some guys off because a scope requires extra effort and tools that most guys (and many hard working techs) don't have time or money for. Thank you for understanding, I do this for fun, which results in a very different workflow.
I completely understand. I can see how it eats up more time but for the sake of learning i think it's important. With more experience with the scope you'll become faster at your diagnosis
Hi Jonathan I was looking up on line why my 2003 honda odyesdy do not start I drive it on September last year and park it at a friend home I asked him to take off one of the terminal, he did now I got back I am trying to start it no crank no start I put in a new battery same thing it doing. Have any suggestion
I dont trust those battery sticker dates.. I bet they switch them out every 8 months if they sit on the shelf lol It should be stamped into the battery like tires !
Ha! Never thought of that! I agree with you .it should be stamped in it
@@themechanic6117 I'm suspicious of everything these days....morals and ethics have left people long ago. Like the saying goes, I was born at night, but not last night !
You are correct-the battery delivery driver checks the voltage and amperage and if it checks good, they just replace the sticker with the current check date. I used to work at a retail auto parts store and saw this recheck done every time he delivered new stock but the older battery/batteries were moved to front of the stock.
Honda=no surprises!
😂👍
Make sure to check contacts on your battery posts! I went thru all the checks, fuses, relays etc and after few hours it turns out it was corroded wire ends going to my positive terminal...
Another adventure !
💪staying busy
I know you went back to check the S post voltage that was 9v so did it change after you put a new starter in. I bet you knew someone was going to ask 😅
Actually I did not go back n check. I should have checked it. Sorry Steve....I HAVE FAILED YOU 😞😂
@@themechanic6117 I won't sleep tonight 😅
I mean i did check it....IT HAD THE EXACT VOLTAGE THAT YOU THOUGHT IT WOULD BE 😬😏😂😂
That brand for the starter , Remy. Is that short for remanufactured ?
Im not sure.I didn't buy it. Hopefully it lasts
For the longest i always thought your picture art was of Batman upside down...i finally zoomed in today and it's not batman at all 😂
@@themechanic6117 it's the slacker from regular show , I think his name is Leon
@Dan H I believe it's Remy as in Delco-Remy. Seen some alternators in recent years branded just as Remy too. They have both new & reman as I recall.
He was so certain and keen it was the starter 😂
I'm not sure what you mean
@@themechanic6117 LMAO
@@themechanic6117 nvm ab it 😂, anyway your a great content creator and should keep up the good work!
I have a question- after changing out the starter and you turn the key- it makes a noise but still won’t crank. Any suggestions?
Did you check to see if the ground wire going to the engine is good? Or did you manually rotate the engine to make sure the engine can spin and isn't locked up? Is the battery good?
Quick fix😉😱
Definitely
Is that a hard one to do?
No its not to bad of a job. There's starters that are much more difficult!
I have 06 Odyssey that just clicks once when trying to start. New battery, alternator, and new relays. Tested everything tests fine what could it be? The starter or just the wiring?
Having problems with my 07 honda odyssey. New battery, new alternator, cranks for a second but wont start. Any advice?
It literally cranks for one second?
Smart dude
Thanks for watching
I looked at your pictures and thought it was carnage from spider man lol it’s a k motor 😂
Well that's a first 😂never heard that before
How do you change a starter
Take off the bolts... there's plenty of videos on TH-cam showing how
You didn't put the engine transmission dip stick back before starting the car....
Yes I forgot about it but it did go back in
Please what if the engine did not turn, what maybe the problem and the solution
Dead battery? Bad starter? Wiring? Bad computer?or a locked up engine
Hey, I'm having trouble with my2006 Honda Odyssey. I replaced the battery and I have no power, lights on the dash..nothing. I replaced the battery fuse because it was blown. Still nothing. Do you have any idea what else I could look into? The ATF is running constantly while the battery is hooked up. Please help!!
ATF? Is the battery connected correctly? Red wire to positive post , black wire to negative post?
Mine just started doing that I shifted to neutral a couple times and it starts does it once in awhile but that worked for me
Your starter or safety neutral switch is failing
@@themechanic6117 probably neutral safety switch but putting it in neutral it will start
The ATF fan
I wish you had showed how to remove starter.
There's plenty of TH-cam videos showing how to remove it. It's only held on with 2-3 bolts. It's pretty easy to remove
Where u located at?
Chicago IL area
Thanks for NOT demonstrating how to install the starter.GREAT JOB hmm
Ok lla llego
