Just got here now, oh how I remember this one, the nostalgia, I started actually with the first of the series, Anno 1602, has the cardboard box with the CD inside and those huge info books.
I hope you brought your colonization permit.. It's a very rare skill you got there, being able to break any game and cheese it. You should be proud my good sir
One of my favorite. I have played the campaign through and then did at least 20 playthroughs of the open game. I always play with Mosque and Cathedral as the goal. I usually colonize all the orient as the NPCs do not follow normal build restrictions and once they get spice they are much harder to beat. I have never done the duplicate glitch. You can grow massively without getting spice and collect massive taxes early on off citizens and peasants, but later they but after you get enough Patricians they can start rioting if they do not have stuff. Noblemen are even worse and it is actually harder to break even. Rioting is the thing I hate the most. Usually it is if I accept a mission to destroy a warship of some sort and it sinks a trading ship of mine. Usually I ignore those missions. That is one thing I think they should have done is give you negative reputation if you ignore or failed a mission. They act like it is a big deal, but that is all. You can make massive amounts of money, though, selling stuff. Usually I do not do trade deals with the NPCs, but will with the North and South trade posts. I set tools, lumber, and stone at 50 or 75% and let them buy any extra. Those reputation points can increase how much money they can trade. I also sell stuff directly to them. Carpets and tiles come pretty early and go for a lot of money. Swords are not bad either, but when you start getting up to cannon and books they are worth a fortune. You also get a lot of reputation doing this. Jousting gives you a ton too... especially if you have provisions. I will even set up jousting in the South too and ship provisions down there is I really need reputation. By then my population on both is high enough so I can get 600 reputation per jousting event or 1200 for both. You make WAY more taxes off of Citizens and they do not require much and the money you can nmake of the tools alone is well worth it. Plus you have a much larger population to tax. Taxes effect how fast people move in and when you bump it up 2 notches there is almost no population growth (if you go higher they will start rioting). I build 3 marketplaces and if you unlocked enough edicts you can actually have a VERY small peasant population. Now at the beginning of the game you can just take all the islands in the north, but it is hard to do against more than one NPC. If they are higher difficulty they will colonize your islands... at least the ones in the north. Also colonizing a bunch of the islands in the North and not stopping them from establishing at least one colony will usually result in war long before you can get large warships. I just stick with blocking them in the South as it is more fun. But like I said money is too easy to get so I do the Mosque and Cathedral as goals as they require not only a large population on both settlements, but they also require a huge amount of resources and time to build. The ground combat in this game if pretty lame. Usually I park a small warship with a cheap captain that has repair and park him patrolling in a small triangle right where the pirate ships spawn. Since they never spawn more than one and the shop has enough time to repair you have no neutered the pirates without having to pay their crazy fees or build up your defenses. I start with just a flagship, so as soon as I can I build that small warship. Usually to defeat an enemy I like butting a few towers out in the water along their trade routes. This kills their economy without wasting any of my ships. I start war after I have a few large ships. They will keep using reputation to get 2 small warships every time you sink them, so sometimes I will leave a few ships guarding the trading post where they and his flagship will appear. Again I ALWAYS have captains with repair in my ships. After you defeat the corsair fleet (usually with turrets if there is an island close enough) I get t he captains with medium repair and +10% speed for 100 reputation from the pirate cove. To defeat the enemy I typically just build about 10 large warships with repair and surround his island until it finally dies. How come they do not have tea in the game... just coffee. Of course I personally think both are nothing but dirty water. I never understood the logic if inventing coffee... Lets take a nasty bitter bean that nobody can eat and burn it. then grind it up and filter boiling water through it to make a nasty disgusting bitter concoction that you have to littererally train yourself to like. Then there is tea... Let's take some leaves off some random bushes, dry them out and put them in a cup with boiling water.

Lol don't get me started on the UK economy! It is a wonder anyone is still employed on that Island! The British tried the Free Market once, drifted away from that and now they are basically Socialists...which doesn't work wherever it is tried!
Because pure capitalism does have annnny flaws at all 🙄

The event is in August. We'll see...
Persi update
I wasn't there, but the event was two weeks ago. We'll have to find someonw who was there!
@@persi8306 to be honest after some introspection it seems like an irresponsible amount of tea bags. If spiff has gone through with it he could single handedly destroy any potential prime tea strands from his beloved smallhold tea plantation.
Yeah, it is a stupendous amount of tea bags.

I still have my physical copy and have very fond memories of me having absolutely no idea about what I am doing but having a blast in my early teens
anno 1404?
I wonder what the 1403 previous anno games were.
I wonder what the 2076th game was like then..

Just picked this up and can't wait to play. Anno 1602 and Age of Empires 1+2 were some of my childhood faves and didn't even know till recently that there is a whole franchise of Anno games XD
The Spiff Loves List missing something.
Violating the Geneva Convention
Khaeldranis I suppose that’s one way to get around it. 😂
War Crimes then, Spiff is rather fond of those too

Still playing this occasionally, autumn 2019
I still play it in 2021. But I just tried Anno 1800 so I might take a longer break from 1404
This game is absolutely amazing. I grew up with Anno on the DS, and when I saw 1800 being released but couldn't afford it, I binged on 1404 instead. :)
Eclipse T. Exactly the same with me. I’ve played about 15 hours of 1404, I’m pretty impressed.

Oh. Okay, friend
Anno 1404 is such a great game. Huge nostalgia every time I play it
Honestly I’m so happy that I found you playing this game as it always seemed so exploitable xd as much as you mr British to the fullest I too engaged in the marvellous escapades in Anno 1404. Truly glorious game!
Fun fact: Cider is actually a translation mistake from the german version. It actually is just not purified applejuice.
Well, it depends. In the german version it is Most which can be not purified applejuice, but in many regions Most means fermented applejuice/cider.
The fact that the British don't need permission to colonize is 1819% true.
"why did I get Satisfactory" I know this video is 2 years old, but PLEASE make a Satisfactory video!! I absolutely love that game!!
It is almost 2022 and I still enjoy Anno 1404. The 1800 is pretty, but it isn't the same.
It could be the graphic since I always thought 1800 are kinda grey, bland and shallow, don't get me wrong I love 1800 and it fun to play, but it doesn't have that colorful and personality of 1404

I LOVE this game and play it a lot! I got addicted playing 1602 (which I still play) but this is my second favorite.
love this game. Loved getting the achievements and abuse the AI. While it still did some stuff better like the campaign, victory conditions, single map, etc, 1800 is overall a better experience nowadays with all of its QoL features.
I mean, we can agree on that, but how exactly is the AI broken?
(My younger, probably 16 year old self will cry at this, since I love this series that muchM but still :) )
I think, Anno 1800 is very similar to 1404 it just expands on some concepts and gets more complex. That's why I love it, It still feels like 1404 but it technologically progressed from that time
Eeh I very much dislike how everything isn’t on one map along with the lack of land combat
Hey Spiff, if you find this overpowered and/or broken, consider checking out Endless Legend. One of the races (dragon-people, my favorite!) can force ALL types of diplomatic deals, as soon as they have the tech to have those deals at all. It's quite fun :P
i like the sarcastic tone, its like listening to a British Bill Burr, i think this dude should do some stand up shows, the writing for these jokes are hilarious. and gamer comedians for a gamer crowd, he might be doing stadiums by covid end
Nothing better than binge watching your videos with a hot cup of coffee.
Ah the oblivion duplication glitch. I remember filling a room with pumpkins just so the guards couldn't catch me

I look forward to the Kenshi video. It's....certainly an interesting game.

I love the anno series. played except for the first title everyone, from 1503 over 1701, 1404, 2070 even 2205 and of course 1800
Anno 1800 exploits by Spiff is something I've desperately needed for a long long time.

Just got here now, oh how I remember this one, the nostalgia, I started actually with the first of the series, Anno 1602, has the cardboard box with the CD inside and those huge info books.

How long have you been gaming, 8 months? it's a terrible game, and I've been gaming the better part of FOUR DECADES.
😂😂 drinking tea and having a laugh... just how I like my weekends
