Next came the self-checkout voice on the end of every street. It sent me insane to remember my Clubcard. I had to move to Sweeden as a result. I am a different man these days I can tell you.
Very true - I think we all should spread ourselves around - Me and the wife have started shopping at local shops a few pence more but I enjoy meeting and speaking to the owners -- etc and I know the following is cliche but "you get a sense of community" people know you by first names etc and its quiet enjoyable to a certain extent despite the kids playing demolition derby :-)
Isn't it insulting to Danes to say they'd only last 5 hours resisting an invasion? After all, when the Germans invaded they held out for.... OK, bad example. But as NATO members, Americans and Canadians would be obliged by treaty to throw in their Safeways against the Tescos.
Hello from the future. Whooooooo! It's a reference to the Nazi invasion (pre Tesco) where the King of Denmark surrendered in 5 hours. To be fair they basically didn't have an army at the time, even used bicycles as no tanks. Luckily Tesco sells bicycles and tanks...fish tanks anyway; getting closer to selling actual tanks though- every little helps for the resistance.
There's more truth to this than most of us know. Tesco have stores across the world now and own massive chunks of land in Thailand , China and India amongst other places
in nurturing a good relationship with you, Ricky, their customer. How does one nurture a good relationship Ricky? They provide value and support, through information and care. Now lets jump to today. You enter a supermarket. Your served by a individual whos role is specifically designed to be as cog like as possible. No one person is irreplacable in tescos Ricky, Oh no. Growth feeds upon individuality in exchange for scale Ricky. Everyone in that job is afraid for their job Ricky.
You see Ricky its hard for us to see clearly because our internet culture is so mindblowingly fast; but nether the less we do need to see this Ricky. Local shops, local bars, local festivals are the network which keeps a community alive. In this age though there severly malnourished. Before the supermarkets you'd have to go to a butchers a green grocers a fish market a farmers market and anywhere else you can imagine. In each place you'd talk to a seperate person, who would have been invested
where as the butcher and his employees are more inclined to be afraid for their business. Anyway Jimmy i'm rambling. Basically johnny a supermarket will come to a town, siphon out the local cultures commercial capital and send it too some share holders bank account in the camens. At the same time as breeding a culture of fear in its own staff and burning out all the ropes of communication that could organise a resistance or counter movment in the community. All this leaves towns desolated jimmy.
True story. A couple of years I visited the last one in Poland before it finally shut down. Everything was 80% off. It was overlooked by the second largest statue of Jesus in the world. The poles are a warrior nation.
Hi Ricky, im about to give a brief lecture so sit tight. It's 11:08 im in Bristol and im high. Local shops are important, Ricky, because they are the circulatory system of the local culture. You see Ricky the word 'network' is a bit of a metaphor. You can imagine that a network is the many ways of connecting a group of people. So each website we communicate upon is a different rope in a larger net. Twitter, Facebook, TH-cam and Reddit. all tie together to make the net strong.
I remember watching this while babysitting and almost choking on the cushion I had shoved in my mouth to smother my laughter.

Just change out Tesco for Amazon and this is spot on.

Amazon done the same with warehouses. Amazon delivery vans have now displaced sheep in the UK at 6 vans per person compared with only 5 sheep.
I liked the fact that even though it was a comedy it had great CGI.
