  • We set off into the torrential rain that has been waterlogging the region for days. The Bureau of Meteorology has given multiple warnings for the region and Tralalgon is currently under water...
Perfect weather for a bike tour, right?
After stopping in Bruthen for some refreshments, we battle our way through the weather down the Lakes Discovery Trail to Lakes Entrance to visit the fascinating Griffiths Sea Shell Museum, before making our way further East towards the end of the East Gippsland Rail Trail.
    Filmed in Kurnai Country.

D&B Cycling Australia is a video series documenting our time bicycle touring Australia; a bicycle tour led by our desire to seek out roadside attractions -- everything from the interesting and quirky, to the macabre and obscure.
We had initially planned on bike touring Australia as the first leg of an around the world bike tour, but the Covid-19 Pandemic that struck mid way through the trip forced us to change our plans and extend our Australian cycling adventure.
Thankfully Australia is a huge country with plenty to see, so we'll continue cycling around Australia until it's time to move on to the next adventure.

    Anyone for fish and chips?

It's a great trail when the weather is OK, which most of the time it is in that area. Bruthen is a great place for a stop, whether at the brewery or one of the bakeries. Nowa Nowa has food and accommodation. If you were to visit Lakes Entrance in the summer holiday period you would know why there are so many fish and chip shops. They are usually packed out.

It was a great trail even in the terrible weather! We loved riding it despite being soaked through!
For there to be that many fish and chip shops, there must be the population to support it, but I just thought it made a comedic aside. 😁
      Cheers, Alan!

I just chanced upon this video while planning my first rural bike trail ride, the Gippsland Plains Rail Trail, and this video was super useful! It was the first real insight I could find to the type of gravel trail, and it looks like very fine gravel/ very smooth for the most part. I feel like this channel will become a very precious resource. Thank you and safe travels!

So glad you found the video useful!
The Gippsland Plains Rail Trail and East Gippsland Rail Trail both have pretty similar surfaces. Mostly hardpack gravel and very smooth.
      Cheers!

@@VeloObscura haha oops - just realised I commented on the wrong video! :D
I live in Melbourne with an inflammatory joint condition which prevented me from doing regular exercise in my adult life. A few months ago (age 40) I got bicycles that were right for me (ones that allow me to sit up and not arch my back) and off I went, exploring the bike trails of Melbourne. I am now at the point of riding up to 120-130km every weekend, but I am quickly running out of suburban trails, and I'm about to make my first rural bike trip. Love your videos, I now watched a few more, so informative, helpful, and inspiring. Sending much love to you both!

      Thank-you so much!
It's amazing to hear about your recent cycling journey and the positive effect riding is having on your life!
You'll have a great time over in Gippsland. A favourite of ours that we never got on video was a trip we took over to Wangaratta to ride the Murray to Mountain rail trail. We loved the trail and towns like Beechworth are amazing places to visit in between the riding.
Thanks again for your kind words. It's wonderful to hear how cycling is helping you. ☺️

At 15.52, you didn't go into Nowa Nowa... I have cycled this trail and has beautiful big eatery/ everythingery, had a wonderful breakfast there a couple of years ago. Well done on your video.

This might interest you Not sure if you know this when you see place name with double words like Wagga Wagga or Nowa Nowa (in local indigenous language) usually means Many or place of many eg Wagga means crow so place of many crow.

Are you actually wearing dishwashing gloves in the rain?

    • @VeloObscura
      @VeloObscura  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Yeah! It's a bit of a hack that we've been using for a while.
"Waterproof" gloves are never actually waterproof, so we wear a set of heavy duty rubber gloves that we swiped from our old workplace with some wooly merino gloves underneath.
      Comfy, warm, waterproof! 😁
Although it does look kinda silly.... 🤷‍♂️
