Some people think it's a fad about gluten free. Partly because there are gluten free diets that people have done without actually having an allergy or intolerance. Unfortunately, this has caused real issues for people w celiac and allergies or intolerances.
And the sad part is is there's people like that that legitimately think that if you eat it it will go away I can't tell you how many times I've been told to just eat it and I have Celiac so that's not really how that works but you can't tell these people they're wrong because they think they're right
Oh my god NO! Exposure therapy works over years, not days, and it fails more often than it works. I got over my lactose intolerance by eating way too much ice cream, but 1) lactose intolerance isn't an allergy, it's an intolerance and 2) just because it worked for me doesn't mean it will work for most people! My goodness. There are really people out there who think all of that "everybody is different" stuff we learned as kids was just some feelgood nonsense instead of basic reality.
I sometimes eat some things I shouldn't (that I'm allergic to), but it always ends badly. I don't do it, because I think it will make me stop being allergic (taking allergy vaccines - don't know what they're called in English - had only made things worse, so I know it won't work), but it's because the thing I'm allergic to is also one of my favourites (that's how my parents found out about my allergy: I asked for my fav food, ate it and broken out in hives every time). I do not want people to do the same thing - I shouldn't do it either
@@Mel_Bat there's so many things I love that have gluten in them it makes me so sad but right now I have an excuse to eat everything I want because I can't afford my diet so I'm just eating whatever I want especially the nuggets from McDonald's and fries oh my God I would die for nuggets 🤣
@@pyramoon8134The one good thing about hypochondriacs and diet fadsters going gluten free is that they expanded the gluten free market, so there’s a lot more options now for people who actually can’t have gluten, and some are really good. The Snyder’s gluten free pretzels are even better than their wheat counterparts! Gluten free bread still has a way to go, though.
@@Mel_BatIt is possible to reduce the severity of some allergies with exposure therapy, but the doses are carefully controlled and given in a medical setting so they can stop a bad reaction. The therapy has gotten people with a lethal peanut allergy to be able to survive a single nut of contamination. Their allergies aren’t gone, but they’re less likely to die from cross contamination or a damn fool “testing” someone’s allergy. The therapy takes a long time, though. At least it’s not dozens of shots over months like treatment for hay fever type allergies, though.
For those who may not understand what celiac and gluten allergies can do; When your body cannot process gluten (specifically from wheat/rye/barley or the occasional oat that is grown/harvested interspersed with wheat) it KILLS the absorption sites in your intestinal tract. It can be painful as the cells die. Then you are susceptible to mal-absorption issues- iron deficiencies, vitamin deficiencies, and as a result brain fog and other neuro issues (migraines.) As an added issue due to the malnourishment, muscle weakness and joint pain. It can take weeks to months for the stomach lining and intestines to heal and regrow. In extreme cases parts of the intestines can be permanently damaged and will not regrow the absorption sites.
Whilst there definitely are people who can have gluten but think/pretend they can't because some blog somewhere told them gluten are bad or because they ate something with gluten that gave them a bad reaction and they wrongly blamed the gluten for it (most likely it's certain FODMAPs that are giving them issues), it is a serious ordeal for some people (with coeliac disease). But even if someone could actually have gluten, they should still be able to just get a gluten free option if they prefer it for any reason.
My mom has such a severe gluten allergy that her body completely stops being able to move after eating it. Her stomach and body hurts for weeks. If someone told her it’s “not that hard”, I’d go insane
you sure it's not celiac? I'm sorry your mom has such a bad reaction to gluten. Allergy awareness needs to be more well known, I feel like there's too many naive people. So far the best media representative of a food Allergy was that man at the beginning of Meet the Robinsons, which scared me as a kid
@ yes, I’m sure! It’s just an extremely bad allergy. And I agree with you, people don’t take allergies seriously enough. My mom went to an Ulta to get a foundation, and she told the lady who was color matching her that she has a bunch of allergies to certain things, and she gave her a foundation without checking what’s in it first. She had an allergic reaction. People need to take it seriously!
I am gluten intolerant. I eat as little gluten as I can. I know people who have celiac. One even has her own communion wafers! I meet a lady that had such a severe case, she explained she almost died and was in a wheelchair until the doctors figured out she had celiac! It is NOT a choice!
@@Zenfilter74they’re actually low gluten, not gluten free communion wafers. (I’m gluten intolerant and Catholic, too.) The Church has a rule that communion wafers HAVE TO include at least a little bit of wheat. Communion is the only wheat I ever eat. 👍
There's a large amount of people that would and sometimes do "man up and eat gluten" and end up miserable for days after, they'd rather eat the gluten filled items because they taste good... Not all people go GF just because and it's hard to find some good gluten free stuff like bread
After a severe stomach flu I needed to go gluten free for a few months. I didn't know that was possible. 🤷♀️ But that was my experience. It made me a lot more empathetic to people who are gluten free. Because gluten free items like bread were so expensive I just switched to food cultures that didn't normally use gluten, like Southern Asia, parts of Africa and Central and Southern America. I still missed bread and anytime I "cheated" my guts reminded me. 😥 After a few months, I guess my intestines healed enough to handle gluten protein again because I could handle sourdough bread my local bakery made (my favorite type and the one I would eat when I was desperate for bread). But most people aren't that lucky when it comes to allergies. I understand allergies, because I have had a severe milk allergy from very young, and I also understand how ignorant and stubborn people can be. My extreme milk allergy taught a lot of people that allergies do exist! If milk touches my skin, I break out in hives within minutes. I was told by someone who knew me in elementary that I would blow up like red balloon if I accidentally ate something that had milk baked into it.
I would never understand people like that. What's in it for you if someone does or doesn't eat something? Even outside allergies. If I come in and say, for example, I don't like the taste of almonds, can you get me something without them? What sane person would try and force me to "man up and eat it"??? Like, I can understand the situation in the family with limited finances that can't cater to every whim of a capricious child, sure, it'll be you either eat what's on the table or bugger off and stay hungry. But that's literally a customer who's here to spend their money on your product, let them have whatever they want!
Yeah theres alot of people who think gluten is bad because some health influencer said so, but some people REALY DO have allergies and disorders that make it dangerous for them!
even if you're not sensitive or allergic and simply have a preference for gluten-free stuff, that's.... your right? it's not the employee's business why i want a certain item. if it's for sale, and i am legally able to purchase it, it's none of anyone's business why or if i buy it allergies are such a dangerous thing to ignore, and should never, ever, be disregarded
Love you standing up to that, as a side note: your voice is so incredibly calm& sweet & your accent so lovely- I could see you doing voice for sleep videos or something! I can bet we would all listen!
I've had to aggressively educate coworkers about food allergies before. Generally speaking, the shock factor of getting chewed out by the friendly/timid employee for risking someone else's livelihood seems to do the trick.
Why do so many people think gluten allergy is like a quirky dietary choice? That’s how these people make it sound. Do they not know what allergy means?
Because gluten-free food only started to be commonly marketed as such 10 years ago, and anything that is "suddenly appearing" is seen by a lot of people as an attack on society or whatever they only care about when it comes to annoy other people.
I'm allergic to apples an other fruits. What happens if I happen to lick a piece? My tongue splits in multiple parts. Plus all the other typical things like difficulty breathing, swelling blabla, but the tongue thing really is the cherry on top. But I should not have worried! I just need to man up! Thank you Alice's new almost hire.
I used to be a cashier in a coffee shop at the airport, the only available coffee shop available in the terminal (low cost terminal). Every time someone with a food allergy came I asked for as much detail as they can give me, as well as leaving my register, entering the kitchen and clean everything myself so the client could have a peaceful meal.
One of the most frustrating things to me as a celiac patient was the accusation that I just needed to be strong or man up as this person put it. I live in Texas and some people here believe that celiac disease is fake and if I need GF I'm just being a hipster or am a pansy. It makes me angry because I see myself as reasonably tough and it's not my choice to need gluten free.
The people at my son's school didn't believe me when I said he had a severe milk allergy. First WEEK of kindergarten someone spilled milk on my son during lunch. Anaphylactic reaction. They had to strip the milk soaked clothes off of him and wash his skin. I don't think they administered his epipen, so it is good that his reactions do calm down with Benadryl. 🙄 I would have remembered if an ambulance had come to take him to the emergency room, which is the protocol after administering epinephrine. Next time he went to school, my son sat at a milk free table at lunch time. Sad that some people need to be hit over the head before they believe something.
@@155chipmunkz I don't think that's the same thing at all because your diet is a choice. If you accidentally ate a bit of pork without knowing it thinking it was seitan or something, you most likely wouldn't get sick or severe illness from it unless you have alpha gal. People with celiac disease have zero choice and we don't get to decide whether or not to include gluten things in our diet in the same way you can choose not to eat pork. That said I don't think anyone should bully you for this. You have heartfelt beliefs and that should be respected even if someone else disagrees with you. Unless your'e going around shaming them for eating pigs then they have a right to snap back at you.
Gluten doesn't bother me but almond flour would. It's amazing how many times I've heard that something was nut free "except for the almonds" or "don't worry, our walnuts are finely ground so they won't bother you"
😬 pretty sure a finely ground allergen is a lot worse than one chunk of allergen. At least an intact nut can be easily rejected by the digestive system (I have a slight undiagnosed allergy myself and my body rejected a whole packet of mixed nuts as diarrhea) while powder is much harder to remove quickly and efficiently

How in world do some people have this idea that allergies can just be fixed by being exposed to something that could put their life at risk? I get sometimes people can grow out of allergies but most of the time they don't & they can actually get worse when you get older or you can develop new ones. Still not a risk a majority of people want to take
Luckily these people are rare, but man did it annoy me when one Del Taco location had 2 teenagers working there who thought it was the funniest thing to serve me meat when I ordered vegetarian meat. Some people get sick off meat when they dont eat it for long enough, if I had they wouldve been out if a job the moment a lawyer called
I had the wrong order at Domino's and ingested a tiny bit of meat. Got knocked out for a whole evening. Wasn't fun. There are plenty of people who have a certain diet for a reason.
As a coeliac I've actually been told to "just eat gluten, it won't do you any harm", apart from the 3-4 days of extreme pain and constant visits to the bathroom, yeah that's what you consider "being fine" is it? 🤪🤪🤪
It reminds me of a friend who told me that about my peanut allergy that I need epipen for and told me wtf is epipen and that I need to stop stressing and breathe and not make a deal out of it. Needless to say, we stopped being friends for many reasons, but that one is a hell of a good reason
I worked with someone like this, she actually didn’t get fired. But yeah if a customer asked if we had a product and she didn’t know, she would just say we didn’t have it. No looking for it on the shelf, no asking other staff members, no looking it up on the system, no offering to order some in for the customer, just “no we don’t sell that”. Honestly it’s a miracle she still has a job.
Sometimes you just want an almond croissant-stuffed classic croissant. Or a oat milk latte to go with your cheesecake. For the flavor. It can't be that hard.
I remember I had to teach someone how to open a garbage bag....because they kept ripping the bottom open instead of peeling the top part. Some people 🙄
When they believe that allergy conscious food is just branded food, and they don't stop and think "oh, it's because it doesn't contain any percentage of xyz allergen!". Bingo! You have a conspiracy theorist who believes that's just a way to feel exclusive, not a matter of health and well-being.
. . . "And I'm going to tell you that your personal views and biases DO NOT get inserted into your sales. YOU work for ME, and I tell you to sell what the customer asks for. Now, I'm telling you to leave. Work at Walmart."
I got a similar treatment when i needed a cheese free pizza from a dominos. Im lactose intolerant, its Painful. The cashier was nice, staff was nice, but the delivery man made fun of me to my face. Wish i had the balls to say a word or too. I was shocked that someone was that mean.
Why do some people feel the need to dictate what others do, when it has no effect on them at all. It doesn't matter why someone doesn't want to eat gluten (or some other thing). They have the right to eat it if they want it. I really like pineapple and pepperoni on my pizza, yet I have encountered may people who think such a this is a crime. Why do you care? You don't have to eat it. It's my food, nacho food.
“Hey person who is deathly allergic to peanuts, just eat them and man up, hey why are you foaming at the mouth?? Drama queen, no! Epi pens are for babies!!”
If this is accurate, than its honestly a failure of alices. To leave the new hire alone at cash until end of day without checking in and observing is just bad management.
There should be a series of questions given before hiring people for certain jobs (or starting a relationship with them) to determine if someone is a terrible human being. “Is it okay to sneak ingredients into someone’s food to test if their allergy is fake?” Anyone who answers yes is an instant “no”.
I would never except someone to be professional on their first day, just do your best, and be respectful. There's a huge difference between being untrained and downright rude. 🙄
As a celiac, I've definitely seen quite a few people that call celiacs "hippies" and plenty of other things. They just don't understand the pain that we would suffer if we ate gluten. It's sad really.
I do not have a gluten allergy or know anyone close to me who does, but I would be livid if I heard a customer service worker say that. I worked retail for a bit and I would never 😤
I was hired as a donut baker and told id get at least two weeks of training, got there the fifth day at 2 am only to find they expected me to open up all by myself, that was my last shift there
"Um, okay, I'm sorry, this isn't working out. You won't be coming back here." This triggered some deepseated anxiety in me. I've had severe nightmares over being told that, and I've never been let go from a job before (or even really reprimanded for anything).

"Soooo weak. Soooo weak. Haiya"
"yeah, you're welcome"
They think NOT selling stuff is good for the business?? 💀
If I were to go to a bakery and they said I had to have something else, I'll tell another employee
It's one time asking for the manager is in fact the right thing to do. Just eat gluten indeed
I'd go, and tell everyone how they treated me
That would be communism, it's illegal
For those who may not understand what celiac and gluten allergies can do;
When your body cannot process gluten (specifically from wheat/rye/barley or the occasional oat that is grown/harvested interspersed with wheat) it KILLS the absorption sites in your intestinal tract.
Wow, what a dangerous mindset. Good call, Alice❣️
My mom has such a severe gluten allergy that her body completely stops being able to move after eating it. Her stomach and body hurts for weeks. If someone told her it’s “not that hard”, I’d go insane
Skill issue frfr
@@Popatop70 ??
you sure it's not celiac?
@ChangbinsThirdToenail 😣 man allergies are rough..
I am gluten intolerant. I eat as little gluten as I can. I know people who have celiac. One even has her own communion wafers!
I meet a lady that had such a severe case, she explained she almost died and was in a wheelchair until the doctors figured out she had celiac!
It is NOT a choice!
Our church has gluten free and regular communion wafers. About half of the congregation partake in them. I was so surprised at our first communion.
Good job. Some people don't know how to navigate conflicts and put their foot down on unacceptable behavior.
Reminds me of my ex best friend 😂. She would tell people to really get over some mental illness when they're trying, including myself.
Here I thought she just wanted to take all the almond ones home herself 😂
You really know the best ways to say "fuck off"
The days after this would be a week's worth of videos. The pain she put those poor people through
The fact this is true has my brain hurting 😭
Like telling your kidney when they are failing "man up !!!"😂😂😂
Mother of God! And my twisted mind went to a bumper sticker from years ago, "Hemlock is Organic, Arsenic is Natural" You can eat gluten, it's organic!
Well, most people can. Some people really, really shouldn’t.
As someone with a gluten allergy, I audibly gasped lol
I would never understand people like that. What's in it for you if someone does or doesn't eat something? Even outside allergies. If I come in and say, for example, I don't like the taste of almonds, can you get me something without them? What sane person would try and force me to "man up and eat it"??? Like, I can understand the situation in the family with limited finances that can't cater to every whim of a capricious child, sure, it'll be you either eat what's on the table or bugger off and stay hungry. But that's literally a customer who's here to spend their money on your product, let them have whatever they want!
Vegans have bullied me for being lacto-ovo vegetarian and I’ve hated vegans ever since. Like how hard is it to not harass people for their food?
Right? Why do I have to explain to a waiter why I think I'm allergic to tomatoes?
i know this was a skit but I like your clear boundaries
It's not just a skit, it's from her personal experience. She always prefaces her videos with this fact.
This ACTUALLY HAPPENED.
I'm loving this! I've only discovered From scratch and have really enjoyed getting caught up!
Just wait till you reach the 14 minute long one about the flood and Alex's grandma, it's a WHOPPER
@@CatGold5047Glad someone appreciates that storyline
Yeah theres alot of people who think gluten is bad because some health influencer said so, but some people REALY DO have allergies and disorders that make it dangerous for them!
lol. You won’t be coming back here - and I’ll never tell where you’re buried. 😂
As a person who thought I had seliac disease but it turns out I actually have Crohn’s disease I completely understand
Imagine telling someone to get over eating something that makes them sick. Seriously disgusting.
I need a 10 hour video of your stories to fall asleep to, goddamm your voice is soothing
even if you're not sensitive or allergic and simply have a preference for gluten-free stuff, that's.... your right? it's not the employee's business why i want a certain item. if it's for sale, and i am legally able to purchase it, it's none of anyone's business why or if i buy it
allergies are such a dangerous thing to ignore, and should never, ever, be disregarded
Love you standing up to that, as a side note: your voice is so incredibly calm& sweet & your accent so lovely- I could see you doing voice for sleep videos or something! I can bet we would all listen!
It’s weird they think they can just tell them to eat gluten 😭
I've had to aggressively educate coworkers about food allergies before. Generally speaking, the shock factor of getting chewed out by the friendly/timid employee for risking someone else's livelihood seems to do the trick.
Wha- wait seriously- oh my gods, my brain just shorted out. I wish I could believe this skit was just a joke. Gods I hope no one took their advice!
If they needed gluten free, the customers probably didn't buy anything.
"You have brain cancer? It's terminal? Well, just power on through! Excruciating pain and paralysis are just weakness leaving the body!"
🤔🤔 it’s like that meme, “do you ever look at someone and wonder, what is going on inside their head??!!”
Yipes! That is an impressive allergic reaction!
I am so sorry that some people are clueless and rude. That is frustrating.
@@teresaellis7062 I'm really glad he was ok after that. There are so many ignorant people out there who don't think allergies are real.
I’m a vegetarian and I get bullied for it. To me, eating a pig is like eating a kitten.
Babes, if manning up worked like that, I'd still be eating bread with every meal, nevermind treating myself to "normal" pastries.
I have celiac and I'd be coming back to a bakery CONSTANTLY if they had gluten free options, this person lost you so many customers and that is so unfortunate, I'm so sorry
Who else was waiting for the “No”😭
As someone who celiac disease, I appreciate how there’s much more awareness these days, along with more delicious options. There’s really no excuse for not taking medical food restrictions seriously.
To be honest people should be supervised on a first day...
Well, yes... BUT a normal grown up person on their first day should be intelligent enough to use their brain and ask for help!
@@stefanieseidler2784 oh yeah and this is just comedic simplification for sure... But still adult person must know that some people are just stupid
the cook who served me food for 9 week at my summer job felt the same way as your newhire. fought me on everything and ignored my requests for accommodations/lied about following them. i'm celiac and ended up in the ER within a couple weeks of returning home (i live 6k ft higher and elevation exacerbates everything).
I hope the cook was fired. Allergy forms exist for a reason.
One time, I was gonna buy a Gluten-free Pistachio -Tiramisu cake. It said: Gluten free on a small sign in front of the cake in the display, but it had some cookies etc decorations on top, so.. I asked for safety sake. (Habit) - The decorations on top was not gluten free. The manager was not in the shop for the day, so I reported it to the customer service in the mall.
You reacted so nicely to her bullshit, it's incredible. I would've honestly just said "You're not hired. Get out"
Love your videos love from Sweden❤️🙂
As a coeliac I've actually been told to "just eat gluten, it won't do you any harm", apart from the 3-4 days of extreme pain and constant visits to the bathroom, yeah that's what you consider "being fine" is it? 🤪🤪🤪
Early love your vids💗
"I didn't sell anything because maybe they shouldn't be so hungry."
I remember I had to teach someone how to open a garbage bag....because they kept ripping the bottom open instead of peeling the top part. Some people 🙄
One thing I never understood was how people can not believe that allergies aren't real.
When they believe that allergy conscious food is just branded food, and they don't stop and think "oh, it's because it doesn't contain any percentage of xyz allergen!". Bingo! You have a conspiracy theorist who believes that's just a way to feel exclusive, not a matter of health and well-being.
As a celiac...🫡
. . . "And I'm going to tell you that your personal views and biases DO NOT get inserted into your sales. YOU work for ME, and I tell you to sell what the customer asks for. Now, I'm telling you to leave. Work at Walmart."
My sister in Jesus Christ, what is wrong with her?
I got a similar treatment when i needed a cheese free pizza from a dominos. Im lactose intolerant, its Painful. The cashier was nice, staff was nice, but the delivery man made fun of me to my face. Wish i had the balls to say a word or too. I was shocked that someone was that mean.
Love these mz. baker shorts. Funny, yet aggravating. Pulls all the strings.
"I told them to man up and eat gluten"
People are gluten free because they can't eat gluten, not because they're afraid of it
“Hey person who is deathly allergic to peanuts, just eat them and man up, hey why are you foaming at the mouth?? Drama queen, no! Epi pens are for babies!!”
If this is accurate, than its honestly a failure of alices. To leave the new hire alone at cash until end of day without checking in and observing is just bad management.
There should be a series of questions given before hiring people for certain jobs (or starting a relationship with them) to determine if someone is a terrible human being. “Is it okay to sneak ingredients into someone’s food to test if their allergy is fake?” Anyone who answers yes is an instant “no”.
In Italy, allergy training is mandatory for everybody working in restaurants and such.
I would never except someone to be professional on their first day, just do your best, and be respectful. There's a huge difference between being untrained and downright rude. 🙄
“Well if people should just man up and eat gluten then you should just man up and eat asbestos”
The new hire is TOTALLY my sister she’s 21 and she’s always like man up she’s so funny love you shams!
😂 man up and eat gluten..😂 I lost it...
I worked retail for a bit and I would never 😤
"Man up and get a new job. It's not that hard :)"
Bro did the right thing.
What. The. Hell. I’m allergic to gluten and a hater on Karens. In this moment, LET ME SPEAK TO YOUR MANAGER!!!
I was hired as a donut baker and told id get at least two weeks of training, got there the fifth day at 2 am only to find they expected me to open up all by myself, that was my last shift there
What!! That’s a crazy story. Me and my partner are also allergic to gluten. This would have made me really mad
“I’m allergic to gluten”
“Y U SO WEAK?” - Uncle Roger
"Man up and eat gluten" bruhhhhhh 💀 some people get deathly sick to gluten like me
"Um, okay, I'm sorry, this isn't working out. You won't be coming back here."
This triggered some deepseated anxiety in me. I've had severe nightmares over being told that, and I've never been let go from a job before (or even really reprimanded for anything).
Anyone else started to always put your hand on your chest along with Alice? Its a really nice habit to pick up. Can recommend 10/10❤
