@FromScratchBakery the last chopper gadget is very useful. I use it for chopping salads. half an onion is too big for the chopper. Slice it a bit thinly, maybe about 2 or 3 mm and then try. That exact gadget saved me hours of chopping, sliced fingers and shoulder pain. Extremely useful for my arthritic hands.

The lid-carrot absolutely can be beneficial.
Some kettles/pots can be difficult to find a position where the lit won't slide back on or completely fall off.
By just partially lifting the lid, all condensation will remain inside. If you lift it to the side, some condensation will drip down outside. If you don't consider that as a problem, good for you; if you do, the carrot could possibly sole it.

Stroke survivor (1 working arm) with jar opener advice. Get your mom an under cabinet jar opener for about 5-10$ usd, kind of a V of metal teeth that mount under the cabinet. Every single person I've given one to since I got mine raves about how much they love it... Plus it's always right there not cluttering your drawers. Elyse newland has a pair of good videos on adaptive equipment for one handed cooking, some of it's guaranteed to be more useful than a lot of these :D I have that last chopper thing though & know why it failed you, do smaller chunks (ie 1/4 onion size not half) & it does a good job but definitely niche utility

You placed it on a jar (even narrow jars like capers), push the button until it starts moving and it will open up the toughest jars, even those sealed shut like my already opened Better Than Bouillon jars. No screws which may poke up through the bottom of cabinets, no worries about dropping the opened jar.

not alice making scrambled eggs in a one-egg pan 😭 the ideal use for that pan is either a homemade egg mcmuffin or what my mom calls "egg on cheese & toast." pretty much what it says on the tin. the jist is that the pan keeps the egg from spreading out a bunch and keeps it a nice circular shape for placing on toast, english muffins, bagels, hamburgers... (edit: you can do sunny-side up eggs in that pan, just don't try and flip it without a spatula) if you ever do another one of these, i'd like to see you try some kitchen gadget baking hacks! like did you know you can use a milk frother to beat eggs?

Rather than use that ball-maker for cake pops, I'm curious if you could use it on the dough chocolate directly to make ball-shaped cookies or something. But then you could just roll the dough on the table to make a ball, anyway. Maybe in a semi-soft chocolate? Another commenter mentioned making rum balls instead.

    • @benwagner5089
      @benwagner5089 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

@@adrianarocasoto I think it's just the fact that you have to make a cake and destroy it to make cake pops. The recipe I googled was take a cake, crumble it into a bowl of frosting and mix it, then dip it in melted chocolate.
Personally, I'd rather have the cake, or cupcake in this case.

    • @hito1988
      @hito1988 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

@@adrianarocasoto @benwagner5089 is correct, just go with the basic recipe ben posted, bake & cool down a cake, crumble it, add frosting & mix it, then form the cakepops out of the mix and coat with chocolate. making cakepops out of cupcakes just adds a lot of extra work + destroying an already fine product.
with the cake its "doing a lazy job", instead of adding frosting to the cake and decorate it, you put everything into one bowl and mix it. lot of work saved.
      about the taste:
cakepops tastes different than a usual cake. they are less a cake and more a confectionary (lots of choclate, cream and just a few cake crumbs), would almost call them chocolate candy, like the ones you get in a box of chocolate.

For the shredder/chopper things at the end. ..... Knives work by allowing you to use the little bit of force your body can produce and focusing all of it on a very small spot (the edge of the blade). Obviously needles or stabby stuff do better because they are focusing the power into an even smaller spot (tip). So I can just see the people inventing this. "Let's _increase_ the size of the blade touching the item we're cutting! What could _possibly_ go wrong!?" Thus voiding the whole advantage of knives in the first place.

I actually have the one that you showed using with an onion, the big one that you press down and it goes into a tray, and it works really well if the thing you're cutting isn't much thicker than the thickness of the blades. It can work well for carrots, celery, and probably pretty much anything if you cut it to the right thickness first. Which you might think defeats the purpose, but it saves you two out of three cuts. I haven't ever actually tried it on onions, but it works for potatoes.

Your comment about the use of the jar-opening thing is actually what a lot of products like that are for, they were actually designed as accommodations and aids for people with some form of disability or mobility issue. They are marketed more generally by the companies wanting to make money, but general use was not their original design or purpose.

I've had one of those egg pans for years. Mine was sold as being for frying eggs. I find the best way to get an egg nicely fried in it is to put it over the small burner turned down as low as possible and melt a little butter in it and then, when the egg is in the pan, put a lid over it. I then time it by making toast, it's ready just before the toast is. (I'm aiming at getting all the white set but still leaving the yolk somewhat liquid.)
Those onion-cutting devices haven't made it to Australia. I hope it stays that way. Thank you for "taking one for the team" and letting us know about those gadgets.

As a fellow Aussie, I hate to break it to you, but the vegetable dicers have been here for _years,_ and are often part of mandolin slicer multi-tool sets.
They work much better with thinner chunks though. Alice was trying to make them cut through too much. So, while yes, you do still need to do a bit more knife work than demonstrated here, it can be easier overall for many people. I _would,_ however, recommend getting non-slip versions, because they certainly can be dangerous.

Hi, the shredder, it is intended that you cut the veg in half, so that there is a flat surface, put the flat (cut surface on the cutter)
It also has a waffle style blade, like the one you used on potato, which allows crinkle cut chips/crisps

Here is a method to boil eggs:
Boil a pot of water, then add the eggs. When the water comes back to a boil, shut off the heat and put a lid on the pot. Wait 15-18 minutes depending on how well-done you want the yolk.
Make sure you have a big bowl of water with many ice cubes in it. Move the eggs quickly from the hot water to the ice bath. (This makes them easier to peel.)
There are a few different methods to boil eggs. This is just one of them.

Tiny frying pan is great, often use outs for frying sage, or spices etc for slow cooked meals.
As for chopping onions, if you wanna do it quickly use something like the oxo good grips chopper, the one where you push down a few times and itll cut. It means making it small enough to fit under the device, but can press twice for chopped, or more for diced, saves a fair bit if doing things on mass... if not just use a knife, its easier to wash and a good knife will last for ages.

I've used both of those veggie slicers before, and while they do take a bit of practice to use properly, they actually are very useful. Generally, you want a hard, quick press, which leads to the blades slicing all the way through. Of course the ones I used were more expensive ones, and those look a bit cheap, so that's probably an issue as well.

I have a tip for doing Hard boiled eggs (or soft boiling them too really -easy to adapt this one!): Put the water on to boil FIRST, once it's fully rolling boiling (BIG bubbles all the time), add the eggs, one at a time, and once the water starts to boil again (should be almost immediately) start a timer. For a HARD boil, 7 minutes at a boil, then turn the water off and let them cook (off the hot burner, but still in the very hot water) another 5. Then just dump the water, or fish them out if you need to make more eggs, and rinse the newly boiled eggs in COLD water - or put them in an ice bath to stop them overcooking (that's where the nasty green comes from - yuck). For SOFT boiled eggs, same process, just do a three minute boil, 5 minutes in the hot water, and rinse in cold water is optional. Medium boil (the yolks are mostly cooked, but still a bit soft in the very center), 5 and 5 minutes, the the ice bath or cold water.

In the 1950s - possibly earlier - the "cake-pop" maker was marketed in the US as a meatball shaper. I know because my mother (I am very old) had an antique one when I was a child. In my lifetime she used it only once...mostly to demonstrate it to me. She mixed up about 1 lb (0.5 kilo) of ground beef, seasoning, egg, etc then packed it into the gadget, squeezed and poped out ready-to-cook meatballs.
    Love the channels,

It depends on what you are making. Or have on hand. Flax seed "eggs" are used for a lot of baking. Sometimes I use applesauce or a banana - or in the car of brownies, I replace both the eggs and oil with applesauce as most other substitutions really much up brownies. Tofu can be used. Chia seeds work for some things. There are also a couple of commercial egg replacers such as the one from Bob's Red Mill. And there are also cakes that don't require egg to begin with, like the one usually called Wacky cake, which uses baking dose and vinegar as the leavening agents.

I'm no professional, but I 100% relate to "Oh, I found this new thing I want to try! Oh... My ingredients have gone off..."
I actually have a pan maybe SLIGHTLY bigger than the egg pan you have, and if I put a tsp or less of butter in the pan and then 2 large eggs, I can just wrist-flip it perfectly to cook the topside, so I don't need any runny whites like sunny-side up would give me, I can fully do over-easy.

14:25 OK so for both of the cutters I'm pretty sure the first one unless it said it was for onions was made for like zucchinis and carrots because of how the cuts looked and for the chopping device that you pressed down on you were just using too whole of a piece of onion it needed to be cut into several smaller slices so that when it cuts it has less pressure to push through

Yes, the bag sealers are intended for use with plastic, not foil bags. I had one that worked great. Used it to seal tortilla chip bags, animal cracker bags, etc. Then my mum broke it by knocking its little magnetic self off the fridge and shattering it on the floor. I've gone back to clothespins, but dang that little thing was cool. It should indeed sound like your hair straightener, it works by melting the plastic together.

The sealer... some are superior to others. I've had about 5 until I found a good one. Mine is usb rechargeable and has an on and off switch. I use it all the time.
That jar opener has been a life saver for both my elderly father and myself, who has very bad carpal tunnel.
My father uses thar hard boil egg gadget almost daily. It was really helpful as he aged and still wanted to cook but struggled.
The chopper works really well once you get the hang of it. If you put the thick layer of onion on the bottom it helps. It is great when making big salads or preparing a lot of diced vegetables.

That cutter thingy is best when you push down with your whole weight.
My mom has something similar and it is really handy to cut onions fast and without a lot of tears, though it needs quite a bit of testing and finding the best way of how to... And if you have only 1 onion per dish, don't buy it. The aftermath is not worth it and depending on size you have to cut it to smaller pieces either way. Useful if you gonna make a big family dinner with kids and grandchildren, otherwise can't really say helping more than simply using a knife...
And I want that oven glove. It's absolutely cute AND helpful it sounds!

That box chopper (and similar designs) is an accessibility gadget. My mom has mega arthritis in her hands, and she's able to chop veggies with it! It works best if you do a rough/large chop first and then put in the pieces, instead of trying to push through a whole half of an onion in one go. :)

My mom had one of those scissor-type sphere-making things. She used it to make meatballs.
Honestly, I’ve never understood “cake pops” from the consumer pov. I assume bakeries started offering them as a way to make money off of leftover bits of cake that would otherwise be thrown out, so it makes sense to me from the vendor pov.
But I would never choose dismantled and re-congealed cake over fluffy fresh cake!

That unicorn sprinkle shaker *is* useful! It only dispenses a very small amount of sprinkles at a time. With a hungry child, they will be so excited to eat that they'll be happy with their small amount of sprinkles. So it reduces their sprinkle intake.
Those bottle cap covers (there are also can ones) won't hold carbonation in. But they're great for keeping bugs out of your drink outside in summer. In the US, where we don't care about the planet I guess, so the lids can get lost. I find silicone wine "corks" to be much more useful.
Teeny tiny pans like that for eggs are great for people who want to make their own breakfast sandwiches. The eggs come out just the right size, and round. But that can also be achieved in a 2-cup round pyrex in the microwave.
Those vegetable choppers that have a hinge are all terrible. They do make ones, usually marketed as a french fry cutter, that are stainless steel and the pushing part slides on two posts so that it goes in a straight line. The handle is usually (but not always) hinged in a way that allows you to apply a lot more pressure than you'd be able to without using physics. And they're amazing. But they don't produce crinkle cut fries, just regular. I became familiar working at a restaurant that sold *a lot* of salad, so we had one that sat on top of a food safe 30 gallon "trash" can that did whole heads of lettuce at a time. I still have the tiny potato size one that is mounted horizontally on my wishlist, but I have to imagine that they work as well as the lettuce one did. It was incredibly easy to slam through a whole head of iceberg lettuce with the handle design.
Last, and certainly not least, your joy is so infectious. I love how excited you get for simple things. It makes me feel better about being the same way.

None of those gadgets worked. Found a new strap wrench tool at an auto parts store. Has a handle with a cloth reenforced, rubber strap made to encircle round shapes. Usually to loosen and remove oil filters from automobiles. Works like a charm opening stuck, hard to open jar lids. Most kitchen gadgets don't work so well.
