  • First off, my RTT is setup with the Front Runner rack and mounting system. It is by far the most convenient mount and dismount system on the market. There are 4 latching brackets, two of which are locking. www.frontrunneroutfitters.com...
Here is a brief description for some of the hardware needed to construct this RTT jig.
2x4s. See video for description of lengths.
Nuts, bolts, and washers. 3.5 inches and 5" inches long.

    Motorcycle Cambuckle (USA) www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01...

If you're fighting the A frame legs coming apart you could always add of nylon strap close to the top to keep the legs from opening too far and splitting on you. just as a safety when standing it up. Nice build man, If only I had a few more feet to store my Tepui like you do!

Thanks for sharing. I have been searching as a way to do this as well. Surprised there aren’t more videos of how to do this out there. Also looking for a way to store above the FJ in the garage as how you have done.

Boy, it would be very nice to have a garage door with clearance so that you can just drive out once mounted. Let me know what you come up with. Thanks for the comment.

Agree, but most residential garages top out at ~7 feet :(

You're hilarious. Try a 4 to 1 pulley system on your ceiling. Raise it up, tie the load line off to the side, no electrical needed. Safe, easy, fun.

I noticed you have the Front Runner QR mount kit. Do you notice any rattling noises coming from the brackets while going over chattery or rocky roads? Specifically the guide bolt and guide channel area. Mine rattle like crazy!

YES!! I figured out that on two of mine, with the latch closed, the latch does not make contact with the channel of the bracket, so there is play. That play is the noise. I now put a piece of wire there when I latch just to keep it from rattling. I want a more permanent solution, but have not found one yet. If you do, let me know.

When its all the way up on the ceiling, how much space are there from the bottom of the rack to the ceiling?
    Thank you for your time

there is a pretty good gap. it is a least 2 feet from the ceiling to the top of the tent. I have it high enough to comfortable walk under it.

My Alucab is to heavy for a one man job. Great idea to take it in and out

yes, but a lot of work. My next house will have a 10 foot garage door. That way I can just drive in and out of the garage.

Thanks for the video. My 10 year old Jeep JK has always been garaged but after we got the rtt I have had to park it outside and it’s making me sick.

That is an accessory for the FrontRunner roof racks.

I built this last night and tried it out tonight. I don’t have an electric winch yet so I used 4 cam lock straps. That was a bit sketchy so I have to get a winch. The frame is a beast though. Plenty strong and stable enough for a rtt. Thanks for posting this video.

Why don't you just back your FJ in and lower the tent onto the roof?

7' garage door opening, would be able to drive out. 😁

Too Much work, I'll stick with a GTT (ground top tent) and a cot

Ha! Ha! Yeah, they are much easier to pack up. Thanks for the comment.

Or ask your neighbor to help you put it on the car and take it down 😂

Even that is tough. My Yakima RRT is 115 lbs. Half that is almost 60 lbs. Lifting that up higher than your head is not easy.
