I LIKE THE PRESENTATION, VERY PROFESIONAL! I BUILD BRIDGES IN TEXAS FOR 30 YEARS AND IN THE PROSES YOU LEARN TO DO LOTS OF RIGGINS ON EQUIPMENT AND BUILD TOOLS FOR IMPROVISING SCENARIOS SO I ENJOY YOUR VIDEO I TANK YOU FOR IT
Thanks Arturo and thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. If you enjoyed the video, please subscribe to my channel. Been out of work since this whole covid debacle started so at this point I need all the help I can get. BTW if you know anyone that might find this or my other video informative or entertaining I would appreciate if you'd share it with them. I have no idea how to make money with TH-cam but I guess getting folks to subscribe to your channel is important so thanks again for your support. Cheers. 😉
I got one question? Why aren't you making more videos? You are a professional engineer with a natural talent for presentation. Just excellent, thanks....
Thanks Bobby. Been trying to think of some other videos folks might want to watch. Maybe subscribe to my channel and I'll surprise you. Don't know why everybody asks folks to do that but they do so help a brother out. Maybe I'll get something for free. 🤣
Great video. The early flex with the dramatic garage door opening, and then pulling your truck out over the materials had me locked in. Would be amazing if you tossed that shopping list in the video description! Thanks!
WTF? I landed here by accident, was not on TH-cam to watch about installation of a Roof Top Tent, but i stayed the whole 14:03 because it was so damn Entertaining. Cheers!
Thanks for the editorials along with the video. great job explaining, and you have a knack for holding the attention and timing the speed of the video just right.
I'm late to the party, but thanks for posting. I plan on picking up a Tepui RTT in a few months so I'm doing my research now about any challenges of owning one. Getting it up on the vehicle - absent a buddy to help - is definitely one, so I much appreciate you sharing your design and experience. Also, thanks for the TOP sample. Just so you know it's not lost on anyone. SF Bay Area native here...raised on TOP and East Bay funk! Respect.
WOW! Thanks for this words of encouragement. Now that I'm out of work I'm racking my brain to think up some relevant content that would be entertaining and/or informative. If you haven't already done so, please help me out and hit that subscribe button. I don't know why everybody asks folks to do it but it must do something. 😆 Thanks for watching! LQ
Yes the good ol beer trick always works with the buddies but every now and again, a little engineering project is great for the soul. Well done sir. Good use of the mind instead of the back!
Excellent system. If I'd only seen this before muscling the monster tent on off my Yakima rack. I'm sure I provided free entertainment for my neighbors. Thanks for the tutorial.
Hi, its along time ago but out of curiosity i see that the bracket strips under the tent (aluminum strips that the brackets slide in, are orientated from front to back so you can mount your simpson 3 so you access from the rear , i just bought one and my aluminum strips run the other way which suits side entrance, im assuming you can unbolt these strips to run the same way yours runs , otherwise ?????, ive never heard this mentioned but you would have to be able to change the way they run to be able to have access at the rear , yes ??
Mate, here in Australia the same outcome can be achieved with a mobile phone (cell to you) and a six pack of beer. Step one, use the phone to invite your mates over for a beer. Step two, withhold the beer until they help with the tent. Are you related to Heath Robinson?
Tried that...unfortunately I gave them beer BEFORE the tent install and everyone got to drunk to help. Lesson learned! Heath Robinson? That's harsh dude...funny but harsh. ;^)
I suggested something like this and my husband said don't I'd never be a mechanical engineer!! But we have to go from the garage to the Jeep thru a messy garage!!
Good how to video. Im gonna make a contraption this weekend. Question: to stabilize the frame when you are using the winch can you just bolt an additional piece of 2x4 in the “A” frame? Thanks for making this video!
Hey Sam, Unfortunately adding a cross brace won't help keep the tower grounded once you start lifting the tent. The force generated by the winch on that pully just makes the rear legs lift and the tower lean towards the truck. BTW how did you contraption build go? Thanks for watching and if you haven't already please hit that subscribe button. Don't know why but it must do something cause EVERYBODY asks you to do it.😆 LQ
Best video I have seen....great topic (I am looking into one of these) but better editing than I have ever seen. I know that took awhile to edit but good work.....carry on! Any comments on the tent and maybe a review with pros and cons?
Hey Brian, thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. Always nice to get feedback on your work especially when its positive. ;^) Already have a DIY video in the can on how to build the road case I store the tent in, just waiting to see if there's any interest before I post it. Thought about doing a review video but have to make it entertaining.
Awesome video....How do you like your roof top tent? I am thinking about buying one for my 2015 Grand Cherokee, do you think my Thule Aeroblade Edge 7601's will support the weight?
+Brian M Hey Brian, sorry for the late response, I don't check beck here nearly enough. I love my tent! So much so I decided to do a review of the system. You can check it out at th-cam.com/video/m38sIioJ6nc/w-d-xo.html The tent only weighs 160 lbs. so check the weight ratings for your rack system and see if it's a good fit. Thanks for watching and please send it to anyone you think will enjoy it.
LKQ, can you share which roof crossbars are you using? My challenge is that most of the Yakima and Thule are rated to 160 lbs which is plenty for the tent itself but 2-3 people will add extra 300-500 lbs.... the math doesn't add up for me so I'm curious - does it just work? By the way I'm considering installing this to my MDX that does not have roof rails, so I was also looking at Thule Aeroblade Edge 7601 and similar.
hi, you are doing it soo epic, but i think i have a better idea, you can store the entire roof top tent directly under the garage roof usin 4 small polleys, and store here, winning space in the garage, if the garage claearance permit it, if not can pass through the door, you can try remove some air from your tyres, sorry for my english!
Dude you got to be an actor or salesman, amazing video, extremely professional. Q. When you buy the tent do you have the option of paying extra for installation?
Walter, chances are if you buy one you'll be doing it through a 4X4 store and I'm sure most will be glad to take your money to install it for you. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Nicely done, LQ - just watched your review of the ARB Simpson III RTT, so had to come see the contraption you designed and use to mount your tent. Very cool, well done. Hop you're still using it regularly. See you out there on the road sometime. Dry roads and open skies, LQ.
I've had pretty much the same idea, but using four uprights and making a parallelogram that raises the tent from the ground. I don't have the advantage of a driveway though! Nice video, maybe next time have two mins at the beginning showing the complete procedure, then the whole explanation for those who are going to do it?
My first thought was to build some sort of box arrangement but it required too much lumber and bracing. This was the least expensive solution. Thanks for commenting.
Thanks for watching Eric, glad you found it informative. Help a brother out and hit that subscribe button. Don't ask me why but everybody is doing it! 😆
Hey Brian, Unfortunately the truck won't fit into the garage with the tent on top. Even if I could get it in there, the ceiling of the garage is only about a foot higher than the garage door opening. Thanks for watching my friend , hopefully you've subscribed to my channel. Thanks for your input!
My advice...Spend less time building dangerous death trap contraptions and more time planning/building/installing a permanent ratchet-controlled pulley system to securely stow away your RTT to the rafters.
Steve...buddy...did you have a stroke? 20 years later...what? A meteor strike, armageddon, the rapture, what? WHAT HAPPENS IN 20 YEARS??? Now I'm freaking out!!!!
good tutorial, i picked up a Tepui last year and have been having the same problem. I love it but it's just too damn big and heavy. For anyone with a tall enough garage i was looking at some of these: www.mylifter.com/
Still one of the best TH-cam videos I’ve ever seen. The presentation and editing is phenomenal.

I'm here for the tent and am blown away by how through and entertaining this is. Absolute gold. I'd watch anything you make.
Hey Philip,
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Hopefully you've subscribed so you'll know when I post something new. Thanks mate!
@@LKQProductions Sure thing, LQ! I'd be excited to see a video of any thing you find interesting.

Thanks for hanging in there for the whole video.
Brilliant! You just made my morning. Being 5''4" makes this problem even more challenging. Love the solution and the video is very entertaining.
Great video - never been so entertained while learning!

Great professional looking video! Right to the topic, not too long. Very nice editing, too. Thanks for sharing this, so helpful.
This, and the review of the tent itself, are two of the best videos I've seen on TH-cam! Keep up the good work.

Thanks for taking the time to watch...much appreciated. Please pass it along to anyone you think will enjoy it.
Great video!! I am curious if you have any problems with a 160lb RTT connected by a rain gutter rack mount when bouncing down a trail?
Your Video skills are straight savage.
Excellent system. If I'd only seen this before muscling the monster tent on off my Yakima rack. I'm sure I provided free entertainment for my neighbors. Thanks for the tutorial.
Building this would provide even better free entertainment to your neighbors.
How did the stock roofrack hold up?
I have the same exact rig. Which tack system is that?
Hi, its along time ago but out of curiosity i see that the bracket strips under the tent (aluminum strips that the brackets slide in, are orientated from front to back so you can mount your simpson 3 so you access from the rear , i just bought one and my aluminum strips run the other way which suits side entrance, im assuming you can unbolt these strips to run the same way yours runs ,

Nicely done. Thanks.. Good production values and useful physics stuff.
Will this tent work on stock crossbars?
It’s pretty darn obvious that Spielberg directed this video... hahahaha I really enjoyed watching it.
Dude, that is the nicest comment I've read yet! That is high praise indeed. Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave a comment. 😉🤛🏻
VERY Impressive. The Edit is entertaining as well!! Well Done!

brilliant video and enternaing
I suggested something like this and my husband said don't I'd never be a mechanical engineer!! But we have to go from the garage to the Jeep thru a messy garage!!
did you need to alter the roof top tent mounting brackets to fit to rear open??

Where did you get that storage case?
I made it myself! I did a video of that project too but haven't had enough folks ask about the case to edit it all down. Thanks for watching.
@@LKQProductions Please post the case video... very interested.

wow it's great job, but it's more looked like Romans taking the world . How about two 2x4 and slide RTT to you roof rack
but what did the Romans ever do for us?...🤣😂

good tutorial, i picked up a Tepui last year and have been having the same problem. I love it but it's just too damn big and heavy. For anyone with a tall enough garage i was looking at some of these: www.mylifter.com/
