What happens when that short piece runs out, the free end you keep looping through? Its only 4-5" long. Doesn't it need to be a few feet long to make it all the way around?
Yes, it sire does, try making the tail about 3x longer than your anticipated run of stitches. They kept it short to fit iinto the camera shot and make everything look neat and tidy n easy to understand whats going on. But you're correct, it is misleading and setting up dummies for failure.

Every awl ive ever had in 25 years of leather repair/alterations, every awl can screw tight enough to use any sewing machine needle. If you want to leave smaller holes in a project that does not tighten back up ie leather. Use the smallest needle possible.
Looks like you know absolutely nothing about this entire subject. Saddle stitch is demonstrably, significantly stronger than cross stitching, and machines don’t do it. Don’t talk about shit that you clearly don’t understand, kiddo.

When you punch the sewing holes before you stitch, should the leather be dry or wet?
The leather we use is dry, but even if it's wet, it doesn't affect it.
