Something ain’t right. Your transmission, front differential and engine are all suppose to be blown up according to the online Tacoma experts (that may or may not have ever owned one)
Hilarious 😆 I love mine and shopped around. Paying exactly what I would expect to pay for a newer gen truck too. I didn’t rush out the second they dropped and paid msrp or more for it
I opted for the '24 Colorado ZR2 because I thought it was the best value-for-capability midsize truck available today. The Tacoma (in TRD Pro trim) was on my short list - as was the Ranger Raptor - but the dealer adjustments for the RR were stupid, and the MSRP of the TRD Pro was unjustified (IMO). The ZR2 scratched every "itch" I had, has front & rear lockers, super capable out-of-the-box, and wasn't astronomically priced... and effectively the same price as a moderately-optioned TRD OffRoad (which still doesn't have a front locker) when the ZR2 is modestly outfitted (but still at/above TRD OffRoad level). I never thought I'd not only own a Chevy... but be happy about it, too. Yet here we are. 🙂
I made the same decision. Originally, I was waiting for the Tacoma Trailhunter (waited for over a year for the price release), which was way too expensive. The fully optioned TRD Off Road was $57K and the ZR2 fully optioned was about $54K. After doing thorough research, the ZR2 made WAY more sense. The ZR2 looks much better too.

Idk guys ...saying the new Taco is better than previous gens at 10k miles is like saying someone youve been dating for a month is better than your ex of 4 years...only time will tell...
@leonardc1303 the Frontier is about the only thing I'd buy from Fiat/Nissan if I were looking for a light-duty alternative to the Taco, it's pretty solid. Titan is full-sized, but it's between meh and ok. And everything else from Nissan is garbage
The last Nissan I bought was in 2002 and the build quality was horrible. Within 2 years the QR25DE motor died twice (one was dealer rebuild error), the ECU died, and the paint started to fade on plastic parts and clear coat was chipping away on the roof and hood. Car was still under warranty and Nissan USA fought like crazy to claim none of that was under warranty. My 2013 Jaguar was more reliable than that Nissan. Shame that what used to be a great car company that engineered the GTR and other high end sports cars fell to the rubbish they are today.

I have a 2022 TRD sport. I love it and even though it gear hunts on hills on highways, I have learned to ignore it. Everything is rock solid and no issues in 24,000 miles. My wife doesn’t like the low seating position. I like the new one, but until mine gives me any issues I am going to keep her and the 4x4 works good too even if tricky to get it in 4x4 mode.
my 2021 SR5 V6 4x4 just hit 32k miles and i know it sounds weird but i feel like the truck has fully broken in. Exhaust sounds nicer, runs and shifts smoother and the computer has learned my driving habits so it doesn’t gear hunt as much. My 4x4 has also been engaging way quicker. I remember when i first engaged it brand new it took around a minute and driving forward and reverse to engage, now it’s quick.
I think im gonna trust you guys and get the k03 for my Ranger. The k02 have been so solid but im hoping the wet performance is better which is should be.
You’ve reviewed the Ranger and own the Taco. What is your opinion on which is better? I realize Fors has struggled with quality for some years, but the specs sure point to the Ranger - especially with a 2.7 turbo V6 and more rear legroom.
This >> new 2024 Tacoma owners began reporting transmission failures in June, often with fewer than 1,000 miles on their odometers. Fast forward more than a month and the complaints haven’t stopped coming. Several reports have been officially filed to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, while some come from Redditors and forum members sharing their stories. A smaller number comes from mechanics reporting multiple trucks in their shops with failed transmissions. Making matters even stranger is that both automatic and manual gearboxes are allegedly failing-not just one or the other.
I wish they were slightly bigger. I’m 6’ 3” and 240 lbs. The full size trucks fit well, but they’re not as reliable. I need good mpg and I need RELIABILITY. That’s why I’m still driving my 2017 Tacoma.
You can manually connect CarPlay by using the USB port on the passenger side of the screen. Although I personally think they should’ve used the ones in the center console to manually connect.
The Toyota manual transmission is having serious issues! I have a 2020 TRD sport with 90,000 miles and it has had zero problems and probably runs better now than when it was new. For this reason I feel that I can wait for another model year or two until all the bugs are exterminated! I like the looks of the new Tacoma. It looks updated rather than radically changed. It’s certainly better looking than the Tundra. Btw, the composite bed has been beefed up over the gen 3.
I have a TRD OR Premium iForce Max on the way. The ONLY issue i think is a nuisance (but have not verified myself) is not being able to use the tailgate view on the rear view mirror. I intend to put a cap on the back. There are camera relocation kits out there, but pulling the cab apart and then be left with an obstacle to muck around with where the camera ends up mounted would be a nuisance.
Wish i had saw this video 2 weeks ago. went from a 16 f150 ecoboost and its been something. this truck makes more noises than almost any vehicle ive owned. Im at 13 in 17 years. Its so bad i tried to take it back on day 4 of ownership and was denied. ill have a video coming of the noises this thing makes. Truck needs loaded on a trailer and sent back to toyota so they can figure it out. Some of the noises are universal, some are only with the upgraded climate control system. definitely some good things but if i had test drove it for a week i wouldnt have purchased it. Driving at night also isnt fun with these (the blue light for the drive light indicator.)
I keep looking hoping it grows on me but still don't like it's looks in person. Plus the wheel offset is horrble. You can't put any kind of concave wheels on it or it will stick out of the fender flares and i think that looks goofy.

May consider a purchase but with a discount and factory financing below current rates. The price is just to dam high. Its not worth it. The quality is not there.
You have no choice but to try and sell these we realize. Ridiculous pricing with smaller passenger seating and lighter duty motors definitely are not what buyers are looking for. A 5.0 F150 crew cab is the same price with similar gas mileage. Good luck.
You don’t look comfortable in there 😅 and I’m 6’1 250lbs. In my state they are offering lifetime warranty but for the same price I can get an F150 ‘24 STX 4x4. What can you recommend?
Just a reminder, in the automotive review space, long term refers to a vehicle that is owned by, or loaned to an out let for longer than the typical weekly test. We have purchased this truck to be a long term tester on our own dime so that our viewers can get the answers that cannot be answered in 7 days. Also this is one of the highest mileage 24’ Tacoma’s at the time of filming. Sorry for any confusion, and thanks for watching.
I have a 21 Tacoma Trd OR. It’s has slightly uncomfortable seats, the gearhunter Auto, bouncy ride & subpar mpg for its size. I like the improvements to the new Gen Tacoma, but the 4wd system & transmission worry me some due to TFL truck channel & reading about some major trans problems. I’ll probably wait & buy a 25 or 26, let the bugs be worked out & hopefully interest rates back to normal when Trump 🇺🇸 gets in. Ford interiors always feel cheap to me, toy like buttons. The GM twins 8sp auto trans would worry me, major problems. And I steer clear of any Stelantis products. The new Frontier is probably a safe buy & should last a long time. But unsure because Consumer Reports rates it reliability badly. Plus my 21 is nearly paid off, man, what to do. 🙄
Traded my 21 for a 24 premium. It's night and day. Fixed everything I didn't like about my 3rd gen. 10 yr 0 deductible Toyota warranty are pretty cheap online.
Imagine charging $47k for midsize truck and not including hood liner and / or engine cover at the base. As for the "it still offers a manual transmission," not sure you want that for multiple reasons. For starters, it has issues they can't even fix yet. Outside of those year 1 kinks, I would never opt a 6 speed manual over 8 speed auto with a turbo 4cyl. While these new bigger turbo 4cyl are leaps and bounds better than NA V6s, you really want the extra gears from a 8-10 speed auto to pull out the full potential of keeping it in it's optimal power band. The taco's new turbo 4cly was built and optimized for the 8 speed auto. The 6 speed manual was tossed in and adapted to something meant for two more gears.
I think they're dead on, with the current market buying new is advantageous with some of the 0 and 1.99% offers out there.... yet if you pull out a loan calculator buying a used full size for a similar or slightly less price gets you so much more for your dollar.
If the 2024 Taco still had the Tried-and-True V8, you wouldn't have to make a video about How it's Still Holding Up. But because it now comes with the Untried-and-Who-the-Hell-Knows-About-its-Durability-and-Reliability twin turbo V6, I think I'll wait a few more generations, at least for the recent reports of engine and transmission problems to go away P.S. The real test is somewhere closer to 100K miles anyway. Let's see the video again when it reaches that milestone. ;)
I drove the Colorado and I hated how it rode.. the suspension just felt (emphasis on feeling) not up to the task of keeping in the back tires in line. Just not very confidence inspiring. Also the center arm rest is made out of sand paper?? The interior of the ranger felt cheap. I didn’t like low the center console was. Came back to what I drove first: the taco. and basically loved it. Handled well enough for a truck. Rode great. The interior ergonomics was the best. The new engine and transmission is great. Toyota safety sense 3.0 works well. Yea the taco is expensive, but so is everything else in this segment. But you get the best with the taco.
The new Tacoma transmission fails in less than 2 years...auto or manuals are failing...the new Ranger comes available with the proven long lasting 2.7 ecoboost....proven long lasting turbo...
I felt the same way with my test drives. Engine in the Chevy sounded awful. Turbo boost was nothing like the Tacoma. Interior of the Frontier was cheap and didnt offer options. The last true report I saw was 13 total reports regarding g the transmission. I think it's being blown out of proportion.
Your trans will likely fail within 30,000 miles....manual or auto...and if you off-road your upper shock mounting bases will crack....and for a $50K + truck you would think they'd include hood struts instead of an old school manual arm / bar to hold the hood up. The G.M. Chevy 2.7 turbo engine refresh in 2022 has made that engine bullet proof, guy with fleet of them daily driving them long distances has many with 200,000 and up already with zero issues...being an equally new engine I haven't heard of any Tacoma's 2.4 turbo engine with high mileage yet...so the jury's still out on long term reliability...we all know what a disaster the Tundra's turbo engine turned out to be....
1000k to your favorite charity if that thing last half as long as my new Nissan Pro 4x. This thing is so superior in every way. From the Dana 44 axle to the magnificent N/A V6 this thing is built with integrity.

1000k to your favorite charity if that thing last half as long as my new Nissan Pro 4x. This thing is so superior in every way. From the Dana 44 axle to the magnificent N/A V6 this thing is built with integrity.
Frontier trucks looks like its from the 90s. Tacoma highest selling midsized truck in America 20 years. Taco must be superior. Sales show it.
I'd take the risk on reliability considering the Tacoma out performs the frontier in every other metric
@@highplainsdrifter9849 The Nissan is out selling the Tacoma big time. The word is out what a POS it is. Make matters worse its ugly.
😂😂 F%*
so,,, you paid for the Over priced Taco as is and then threw a shi* load of money into the after market to make it what Toyota SHOULD have gave you in the first place at that price point ? FORD RANGER RAPTOR ALL DAY LONG ! Period.
Been a tech for 39 years for Chrysler worked on a lot of brands, quality wise Toyota first followed by Nissan then Chevy ram and Ford tied for last
I bought my 24 Tacoma in Feb because I needed to downsize. It doesn't bother me that it's an SR5 2wd . I rarely ever used 4 wd and I love the truck. It's a basic of a truck in my opinion but has just enough tech to make me happy. Also I can get it in my garage. I dodged the last hailstorm a couple of months ago. Getting reasonable gas mileage around mid 20s.
