Did you get the OTT tune? If you did, you would never have posted this. It’s a shame that we have to get a tune to make the truck perform like it should have from the factory, but…once you get it, it changes EVERYTHING in the gen 3
@@rstumbaugh43 of course I got the OTT tune. Yes it makes a huge difference for the 3rd Gen but it doesn’t give you more gears and lot more low end torque like the 4th Gen.

@@MuscleAmerican Not bad! The power gain over my 2016 Taco is respectable. I never used any of the fancy off-road modes in my older TRD despite living in Idaho backcountry for a year, so I went 4x4 SR5 this time. The only features I dislike are the tiny instrument panel (one gauge; basically cut yours in half), lack of ability to upgrade the camera system (rear cam only), and the tiny bikini-like mudflaps that probably do nothing.
I'm still enjoying my 06 but was totally curious about towing behaviors with the 4th gen. I'm not in the camp that a turbo 4 is useless, i welcome change and advances in technology. WD hitches don't just redistribute the weight on the front axle. They put immense torque on your trailer too. When they are linked, the entire system (truck and trailer) experiences all the torque equally. That A frame on your trailer is a common failure point with WD hitches. So when you use the WD hitch, just be mindful that you are lifting up on your trailer as much as you are lifting the rear of the truck.

Interesting how the Bubbas don't understand how the T24 engjne has more power than the Lexus 4.6L NA V8 engine.... let alone the magic of turbos, torque and towing... enjoy your new Tacoma ❤
It's about more than power, regardless of HP or torque. A big question that can't yet be answered is the longer term reliability of an engine that is more regularly subjected to the stress of turbocharging. I'm sure this new Taco will tow better, for awhile, than my 3rd gen. Get back to me when you have 150,000 miles.
The owners manual says to use the manual trailer brake control slider to set the gain. You are supposed to squeeze it and set the gain to just below what would cause the trailer wheels to lock up when you’re moving forward at a reasonable speed. It seems a little confusing because I sure would not want to test it to the point with a trailers wheels locked up.
@@jmpattillo same as any break controller. I haven’t towed a trailer with brakes on mine yet but normally you dial in the trailer with the load you have. If you tow the same thing all the time it’s easy. If you tow different stuff you just dial it up or down based on how much power you need. And yeah if you lock up the tires you dial down some. Good question though.
