After finding a bunch of different mods on eBay, I came here for some honest advice. I saw the 3Drap solution as the 'premium' model so after this review I bought it. It's been installed for two weeks. Everything in the video is bang on the money. However... The durability issue is real. Not because it wears down though: It is so tight on the shifter shaft that mine snapped after about 8 hours of play. But it wasn't the first thing to break. It took less than an hour for the thin piece of material partitioning 1st and 3rd gear to snap off. I've just lost the opposite piece between 2nd and 4th. This gives my shifter more of an OI look rather than HH. There is still some clamping force from the snapped part (more so in 1st, 3rd and 6th as the snapped occurred at the other end) and it's definitely still an improved feel. But it is not the golden solution sadly. 3D-printed stuff is everywhere now but I am finding, consistently, that either the material oo the fabrication process often results in low tensile strength. I bought a 3D-printed mount for the shifter, for example, that showed signs of stress almost immediately and is likely to snap within the next couple of days. So, great design but it needs to be fabricated with something either more flexible or more durable.
Update: I went and uploaded a video highlighting everything I mentioned above. 3Drap reached out and replaced my broken parts with their new version: a nylon clamp and metal top plate. At their request, I reviewed them after putting them through their paces... and they've fixed it! They're the golden solution again.

However, I have seen recently a mod that uses magnets instead of something sliding on rods, and that's probably the best solution.

At the time of purchase I also bought the carbon heavy duty insert to replace the smaller one if it broke (haven't needed it yet). I was like you, not wanting to waste time and money if it would break after little use. You can specify what thread size you need for the adapter to fit your specific application. www.ebay.com/itm/Logitech-Shifter-Knob-Adapter-G25-G27-G29-G920-/263627486116?redirect=mobile

@@simracinggarage3026 Thank you very much. That is all I want to know. I have some problem with some gear switch. 4 to 5 and 5 to 4. I was looking for something like this mod, and I think I will buy it.
My logitech shifter seems to mis-shift in certain cars in assetto corsa, when shifting into 4th and especially 5th. Shifting into 5th often goes to 3rd instead. It's my second logitech shifter with the same issue so I don't know if I'm unlucky or if it's a known fault with the shifter itself. Any idea if this mod can rectify this problem? I'm considering upgrading to the fanatec but I'd hold off a while if the mod works well.
You might give a try spraying the potentiometers or buttons inside the shifter. Once a year I spray my pots in G25 pedals, then I had to spray shifter pedals buttons on the wheel cause I had double downshift problem, and today sprayed pots in G25 shifter cause I had problem with sequential shifting. Your problem might be mechanical but you can always use Electrical Spray on buttons and pots...
@@xrider55 Thanks for the tips. I'll definitely do that. It only happens in cars with H- pattern but only some cars so not sure if it's assetto corsa or the shifter at fault.
Tighten the T-shape screws on the shifter gimbal down inside the shifter that grabs the T-shaped holes on the walls inside the shifter. They work loose over time and will then go into 3rd and 4th instead of 1st, 2nd, 5th and 6th. Disassemble the gearknob and leather boot, you'll see the screws I'm talking about, they stick out on the left and right side, just hand tighten them.

Can't say. That kind of thing really depends on your needs. And different people have different requirements, budgets, likes, dislikes, and so on. Only you can make the choice. Because only you know what you like. And what I prefer could end up being totally wrong for you. That's why I give so much detail in my reviews. Trying to make it easier for someone to make a choice.

6th gear has two positions. If you just put the shifter into 6th you get 6th gear. If you push the shifter down and put it 6th it hits a different sensor and you get reverse.

The g27 shifters are almost identical to g29, for the 29 they moved the buttons from the shifter to the steering wheel. The basic design is the same, and mechanics are the same. Clamps and shifter are exactly the same which is why it is compatible for both. For example I still have the g27 shifter and there are some people still using the g25 shifter since it has the sequential shifter option.

Hi, they do make a mod where you can reattach the boot and the shifter looks normal standard from the outside. I ordered it and moded my G29 shifter a few years back and it improved the feel immensely. From sloppy no feel original, to the feeling of gates, no more 2nd gear to 5th accidental shifts.

@@milkshakemuncher is the 3drap product reliable because I am wanting to buy one but want to know how long they last and Also which one to buy in 2020
@@raxal9833 mine has been in for a few years now, I greased it a bit when installing it just so it slides better and doesn't wear out as quickly also once every 3 or 4 months I lube it with a little grease again. It is still going good but in saying that, there are periods of time where I'll use it every day for a few weeks but then sometimes not use it for a couple of months. At the time of purchase I also bought the carbon heavy duty insert to replace the smaller one if it broke (haven't needed it yet). I was like you, not wanting to waste time and money if it would break after little use. They say on the website that as it is a 3d printed plastic item it will eventually wear out, but replacement parts are cheap and from my experience it lasts a long time that you get your monies worth.
@@raxal9833 if you click the blue link in my first comment, it will take you to the 3d rapit site on the exact page of the mod I have is (Cambio H shifter V2 mod) 14.99 Euro I think. Then if you scroll down that page you will see the standard V2 replacement piece 6 something Euros and to the right you will see carbon extra strong V2 insert 9 something Euros.
i think u mounted the piece wrong direction. 180 degrees and it should shift a bit looser
Hey I know it will decrease the longevity but will the mod function without grease or lube?
sorry if he mentioned this, but does anybody know how he's using the shifter? It's supposed to only be compatible with the G29/920.
Leo Bodnar make a adapter turns it into a stand alone usb device
How would reverse work on it as a 6 speed? 🤔
I think its push down and put in 1st.
Push down into 6th
@@tylervardy3917 so you push down as you go into 6th with this kit on? Isn't it a 7 gate shifter with a "safety" on the 7th?
@@barrabikes6890 yeah you have to press in on the knob and push it downward and then shift into 6th.
It's probably the worst part of the shifter honestly.
Great review buddy, however, you should try to use a clutch with this setup, it must add quite a thrill, also trying Punta Taccos gives so much adrenaline during race.
In that kind of race car you usually do float-shifting. Pretty much like on an Eaton Fuller Manual gearbox in a Semi.
How do you have the shifter connected? Doesn't it have to hook up to the G29?
There is adapter for it try this search on aliexpress "G29 Gearshift to USB Adapter Cable for Logitech G29".
O mito dos games
Or stick a bit of rubber between the desk and the clamp.
Your setup is incredible. What wheel base are you using?
Good video, way to many commercials but yeah, nice breakdown of this mod.
Thanks, Im going to buy the improved feel kit after your review. Ive only had my G29 for a week and im already looking for ways to upgrade it. I can see this getting expensive :D
i play fh5 and i drive slower and stage 1 tuned cars somi dont need this i sometimes misshift but that is rarely because i know the shifter well
Very informative video. Your videos are awesome explaining things in great detail. Do you know if it's possible to change the shift knob to a t handle shifter like a hurst or maybe even a pistol grip? Is it possible what would be involved? Thanks
It is possible. There's a few different ways to go about it, however, if you're looking to run a "standard" (real life) size knob I'd suggest a solution like the link below. You can specify what thread size you need for the adapter to fit your specific application.
www.ebay.com/itm/Logitech-Shifter-Knob-Adapter-G25-G27-G29-G920-/263627486116?redirect=mobile
I'm guessing this will work with the g27 shifter as well? Love the rig, great video too!
Yes it will! 👌
@@onetwo937 thanks for confirming. I think I'll just upgrade the g27 until I can afford a direct drive rig. I'll be buying the upgrade asap.
Yeah, a 3D printed clamp is stronger than a proper injection molded plastic part, sure, and as for the grip, all you need is some hot glue.
There is always that one smart ass... and you just made the list...
The inside cam on my 3Dwrap cambrio mod cracked after only one week of use.
was it the v3.5 like this?
Hi, I am looking for my first racing wheel to use for GT sport on PS4, would you recommend the logitech? Thanks.
Bhavinder Jassar g29. Been using it for a long time and buy a shifter as well
Yes
are all the parts that are used in the video when you order something
Can I do this mod with a G25?
Malcom McLeod if you still don’t know after 4 months, yes. The Logitech shifter has barely changed
will it accept an SKRS adapter
Aplus b adapter
What do you think about resistance bands on the shifter
They should find a way to mass manufacture these with metal and they should come on the shifter normally.
Has anyone been using this mod for a long time? They sell version 3.5 now. I wonder if its worth buying or if I should invest in a better shifter.
I just bought the 3.5 version. Also have the extreme racing shift knob. Spent $80 altogether. Let you know how it does and feels
Excellent video! Can y plz tell us few words about the durability of this mod after so much time?
How long did this take to ship? I'm interested in purchasing it
Being 3D printed, how do they hold up to continuous use?
It doesn't. I've had 3 replacement sliders.
I paid over 70 euros (with shipping) for this shifter mod, not including the clamping mods to have it break after 3 days of use
the v3.5?
@@atticusrussell1225 It was the earlier version, I had bought 2 with similar failures, I have now the v3.5 which seems a lot better but only had it for a week.
how will it go reverse?
IK Fahad have to put some pressure down on the knob and then put it beers 6th is. It locks in
Great video!!! I have a question. How about the durability? I guess you use this mod for about one month. Did you have any problems?? Thank you.
I haven't noticed any degradation in the feel yet. I think the trick here is to make sure you have an ample amount of good quality lube applied on the appropriate friction points. But no matter what you do, it will wear out eventually.
@@simracinggarage3026 Thank you very much. That is all I want to know. I have some problem with some gear switch. 4 to 5 and 5 to 4. I was looking for something like this mod, and I think I will buy it.
No reverse ??
Revers is in the 6th gear slot... push stick down before pull it into 6...
@@jamzanthony21 thankyou busy I sussed it out last night.
Anyone got 3d print models?
My logitech shifter seems to mis-shift in certain cars in assetto corsa, when shifting into 4th and especially 5th. Shifting into 5th often goes to 3rd instead. It's my second logitech shifter with the same issue so I don't know if I'm unlucky or if it's a known fault with the shifter itself. Any idea if this mod can rectify this problem? I'm considering upgrading to the fanatec but I'd hold off a while if the mod works well.
they're all like this. I'm getting better with mine with practise though.

ALL THE MODS WILL IMPROVE IT USE ALL
That's not a wrench, that's a screwdriver.
Hi Barry, thanks again for a great review. How would you say the modded Logitech shifter compares to the modded TH8A shifter?
They both work quite well. With the TH8A having a longer throw, and bit more solid feel due to it's having more metal in the build I think.
Sim Racing Garage Thanks for responding! I've been considering buying the mods for the TH8A, but am also considering selling the TH8A and buying the Fanatec shifter, since, moneywise the difference isn't that big. Given your experience with both, what would you say is the better option?
Thank you very much, your videos are very helpful

Anyone has stl files for this?
@Chris Valin Got SQ 1.5 shifter in the meantime so I didn't bother with this...
The website is from the UK, do they ship to the US?
It's from Italy and they ship worldwide but it's pricey.
3:27 I think PLA is a horrible material for such a part. It's weak and brittle as hell.
you just don't know how to print pla, it's really strong if done correctly
@@CreepyMemes PLA has objectively worse mechanical properties than PETG for example. Doesn't have anything to do with a lack knowledge. Only reason PLA is popular is because of ease of use and low cost.
@@gt7984 yes i agree but it's not "brittle and weak" as you say
Like if you recognised that the "pointer" is a long monopolar electrosurgical cautery tip...

Ha ha!!!!! Same thing happened to me. There junk.
Where is the reverse gear?
You push down and go into 6th. That engages reverse.
See!
Robin Williams is not dead!
How do you shift to reverse with just the 6 gear settings?
6th gear has two positions. If you just put the shifter into 6th you get 6th gear. If you push the shifter down and put it 6th it hits a different sensor and you get reverse.
Correct! Thanks!
I know Barry you told me when you did the review on the shifter lol. If only I'd paid as much attention when I was at school.Love your deep dive reviews. Keep up the good work sir.
Just wondering, would the part that goes for the shifter (not the clamps) work for the G27 Shifter?
According to the 3Drap website, yes.
