      @@MattysWorkshop Hey Matty, I wouldn't trust Aaron if I were you. If you can't see the hologram when you look at it at an angle then the certificate is fake. Aaron was known to do all kind of shady stuff like that in his youth in high school. Hopefully you didn't lick the glue at the back of the sticker?

    Great job Matty. I have a start on mine . I machined 9/16 " x .250 " deep slots from the back side and a series of .375" thru holes so I can use 3/8-16 square head bolds as TEE Bolts. I am also planning to use a length of round stock bolted to the edge for my pivot point. Thus allowing me to use the table Tee slots for alignment and strap clamps to hold it in position. Congrats on the Certification . You truly deserve it. Also great to know a resident of Texas sent it to you.

    Hi Matty, I'm enjoying your posts. I'm thinking about getting my first lathe. I think I recognised the al51g in your very early videos which is what I'm strongly leaning towards. Would you care to share your opinion (which would be much appreciated) on that choice for a first lathe? Unless I recognised incorrectly then just ignore this :). I know it's got an imperial lead screw but I don't think that will be a major drama for a complete novice! Better than an eBay anchor surely for much the same price with a 500 bed. Many thanks, cheers Steve

    • @MattysWorkshop
      @MattysWorkshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gday Steve, yes I had an AL51g lathe, overall it wasn’t a bad lathe but it did have a few problems, a mate of mine in town here brought the same lathe at the same time and we both had trouble with sand that was still in the castings and we both had to replace the headstock bearings, the sand also was in the apron which stuffed the half nuts in no time, the drive belt leaves a lot to be desired, they are a M series belt which don’t last long at all, way to small in my opinion, I did an upgrade to the clamp that hold the compound slide on, originally they are a 2 bolt mount and I made a 4 bolt replacement which improved the rigidity of the tool post, overall if your prepared to make a few changes and throughly clean the entire casting of sand they can be a great lathe, please let me know what you decide to buy mate, Cheers
