@@MattysWorkshop Hi Matty, just a thought on using the 2 M5 screws as a tenon in the slotted shaft, maybe mill a 5mm wide through slot in the outer part, then make a deep feather key, 5 mm wide by 12 deep ( guessing on the 12 dimension). Then either weld it in, or loctite it, add a bit of cigarette paper or standard paper under the key for radial clearance.
I've used this technique several times, when I haven't had access to a keyway broach or slotter.
      Have a great weekend 😀
      Regards John

So glad I stumbled on your channel Matty. As a retired machinist I really appreciate your talent and your attitude towards your work. You are very good at what you do and yet you retain a lot of humility and that is so commendable. Gday Mike, I try to get the best finish possible on all the projects I do, having a super smooth finish makes a homemade tool that much nicer to use, the workshop is a mess at the moment and badly needs a good day spent tidying up and and making more storage space, thanks very much for watching and commenting, cheers

@@MattysWorkshop The only problem i have had so far is machining those flywheels for the Hit N Miss engine from old weightlifting bars. They just went blunt very quickly. I agree with Jon they were probably cast steel , not iron.

nice little build for something extremely difficult to set up any other way.....Is it a good idea to oil the indicator quill to help stop it wearing?
