I am Rebecca and I am one heck of a passionate vocal coach/singer/songwriter/impressionist/health/fitness/self- improvement/anything that makes me smile!! I love anything vocal/singing related and geek out on it every day. I want to motivate and inspire others to follow their dreams…corny? Well maybe but it’s true. So what’s motivating me?? I had a huge tumour removed summer 2017 and my ovaries and fallopian tubes. The tumour was the size of a 20 week baby!! However, despite not being able to walk for a couple of weeks, and feeling generally awful…. It has made me create and do what I love! It wasn’t an easy time but I won’t let fear dictate my life. I didn’t think ‘why me’, there are plenty of horrific issues people have to deal with…it’s not always smooth sailing. It’s true when you hear, ‘Life is short’, the crazy thing is, I am glad it happened…I appreciate life even more and practice gratitude everyday…It’s so easy to get caught up with the little things…and I do sometimes, but look at the bigger picture, will it matter in a year or two…?

After they heard her sing I wander how many contestants/champs thought about getting up, throwing in the towel and going to the pub to commiserate themselves. There's so much talent coming from Norway over the last few years. Angelina's joined some of my favs like Sigrid Raabe, Astrid S, Emma Steinbakken. Check and keep an eye on another Sigrid surname Nordby. Only 2 songs online for now. Circles (my fav) and Insignificant Youth. I found her first lol. ooh my first gig was AHA also from Norway showing my age !!
Can’t believe you never reacted to Angelina Jordan again. In 2022 she is about to become a mega-star. Suspicious Minds is one of her latest greatest hits… You need to catch-up urgently with her live concerts this year in Norway.

Rebecca, thank you for your very insightful reaction to Angelina Jordan. It is very obvious that you are a true professional who knows the techniques and artistry of vocal music. Being an old-school jazz musician, I hold Ella Fitzgerald as the gold standard for embellishments, riffs, runs, whatever you want to call them. She would not only emulate the improvisation of the great instrumentalists of her day, she created her own style that set her apart from everyone else. She always stayed within the changes of the music and never did too much or too little, just the right amount. So many of today's singers do "vocal gymnastics" without really understanding the musicality that is required to be artistic. Through training and sheer innate ability, Angelina "gets it" and we, her audience, are immensely fortunate to listen to her artistry! I like to think of her as the Barbra Streisand of the 21st century. Not because their voices are alike, but because Angelina will be as much or more of a superstar as Barbra was in her prime.
She is leaps and bounds ahead of all the singers out there today hands down.

@@Powerpickle68 Her voice may not be as original as either of theirs. But when she sings, you feel it in your soul. Dimash and Diana have unique voices and are impressive, but they come across more novel and gimmicky.

Finally we get to see this young gift. However, other then gaining experiences on a live-stage American audience. She is clearly above 99% of all other singers. This young lady could sing a-cappella doing the street names in my area. It would simply be amazing. I hope she plays with different genres of music. What a voice.

Thanks for your good reaction of Angelina. She is known for "a thousand vocal voices". She adjusts her voice to what genre she sings. She tries back and forth between genres. Remember she is 14 years old, so this is not a song for old people :-) But it does illustrate the range of her vocals.

Im not a music expert, but 2 my untrained ear this was 1 of the most fantastic songs i ever heard.
I enjoyed Rebecca's personality - several past lives pained experience rolled into positive cynisism with humour and feint sarcasm scattered everywhere, and a higher intelligence which may regularly escape the slow witted.

She started at three, has trained in Norway since she won Norway's Got Talent, at seven. She has over a hundred songs out, and this is probably the best one. I could listen to her all day. She performs barefoot, because when she was six, she met a girl who had no shoes, and gave that child her shoes. Now she sings barefoot, until every child has shoes. Oh, and in case you missed it, she's not one of those performers who uses a song to showcase her talent. Instead, she uses her voice, and talent, to enhance the song. That's not unheard of, but it is rare.
@jay fine She's raised over 21 million euros for charity. At 9, she became Norway's youngest author when she published her book about meeting and connecting with that homeless orphan in the Middle East and vowing to perform barefoot until all children had shoes.

Over 90% of the offers that Angelina gets are turned down (even Disney!): her parents want her to get a good education first and have as normal a childhood as possible. So tell me, where are all her millions coming from?

It is a beautiful statement to go shoeless while performing to call attention to those she helps and inform people better than yourself and even you, that there are worthy causes to give some energy to. She has given allot! I doubt you have given any small effort to help others by reading how you think in your responses to people trying to help you to see her true heart. It is said people think of other people the way they think of themselves. That's a fact. We [human beings] tend to see and think of other people as thinking like we do. She’s not going to sign with Simon because she already has her own production company. At 13! And Simon can’t make any money from her. Which might explain why you can’t find a video of her performance on the official AGT channel or anywhere on the internet. But Angelina will get plenty of exposure from her appearance on AGT. She may even win the finals.

Thank you Rebecca for a wonderful insight of Angelina's rendition. Everything you said is on point, starting with the fact that you don't mock around with this legend of a song. She could have belted the song (everyone does... not very successfully, haha) or she could have added so many riffs it could have been ridiculous. Yet her restraint, her "less is more" approach is what, I think, draw everyone in. Not a pin in the room :) Angelina's sensibility, the unique touch she imbues in every song makes her the amazing singer she is.

Hello from Denver. This is a reply to all reactors of Angelina's performance on AGT 2020. Thank you for your opinions. Rebecca, I enjoy your honest reactions and thoughts about musicians and their music. This is my honest opinion of all the replys and reactions to Angelina Jordan. I love her for her values in family, compassion for others less fortunate in life. First and foremost, her parents and family have raised her to be a beautiful, polite and caring, well grounded young lady. At the tender age of 14, she is a breath of fresh air to music listeners around the world. She has developed a wonderful stylistic voice. In my opinion, NOBODY is the best singer in the world, There are however, many outstanding vocalists of all genres and ages. Sinatra, Elvis, Freddy Mercury, Celine, Whitney, Dimash, Floor Jansen, Morrisette Amon and countless others, PAST and present are all excellent, but the BEST ?? Win or lose, Angelina is a work of Art in progress. She will never sing the highest,longest,loudest, most beautiful notes, she does not need to, but she will convey emotion through music that will be well appreciated and enjoyed by many. Well said.Although I do think she is the best singer in the world. Your most pertinent remark is that Angelina :conveys emotion in music". Another name to give her could well be "Miss Emotion". Of the singers I follow on TH-cam(currently 9 in number) she is the only one who affects me emotionally in every song she sings.
@@alberttenfoot May I ask what are the other singers you follow please? Most of the other singers I am following are from the vocal competitions around the world. And I am continually amazed at singers around the world singing songs in English like they spoke it all their life. Imagine a contestant on America's The Voice picking and singing a Russian or Chinese song in Russian or Mandarin. Even better, having the English-speaking audience appreciate what they are hearing.

Angelina came down from heaven to bring us all together with her voice, her songs from the great ones, her own songs, her love for humanity, what more can I say.
She does her own arrangements. This is actually the first time I have ever heard her do riffs like this at all. This was a great performance but it is only the last one of very long line of spectacular performances. I made the mistake of saying that she had a limited range and compared her to Billie Holiday in that way. What I meant is she is not a 'belter'. She isn't going to sing like Morissette, or Ariana Grande. She is going to conquer your heart by taking you into the song with her. You are going to feel her performances in a way that very few singers of any age can manage to do, and she is still learning what her voice can do. Angelina is one of 2-3 singers I could listen to constantly and never lose interest in.

Well, being that young she could easily still learn the belts. Might even be a bit more safe when she's past those early teen years and her vocal chords have settled. It's not a must, but as talented as she is it would be one more "limitation" off of her toolbox.
The riffs are to cater to the tastes of the American audience who adores the style. Just imagine her in another ten years!

Jackie Evancho is another one of those singers who like AJ rarely belts but takes you into the song with her. I would love to hear them duet, it would be absolutely phenomenal.

Bohemian Rhapsody IS the best song ever, and Freddy Mercury is…. No, Freddy Mercury USED TO BE the best vocalist in history. Angelina is a phenom… a supernatural gift from a higher power. Anybody else judging her is like a kid with Lego’s criticizing Elon Musk & Tesla. Her imperfections are what makes her perfect. She was better than most when she was nine, (and even earlier). She is simply sensational.

A 13 year-old girl whose composure and confidence wasn't relying on any gimmicks, big bands to cover her voice, almost acapella, and in a semi-foreign language. Just standing there in front of a mic and singing, she conquered the world ♥

The greatest gift to a singer doing a cover of another artist is to have them tweet a message praising your performance, and that is what happened with Angelina. The remaining members tweeted "Freddie would be proud".

As You said Rebecca, this is one of those songs that have a special place in peoples hearts, but she totally slayed it and made it her own with that beautiful arrangement.
Great educational comments about her vocal agility and I loved to see how Your worried face transformed in to a great big smile as the song progressed. My personal favorite among all the skill she showed in this song is her beautiful, yet seemingly effortless, vibratos.
Like a true artist, she gave the audience what they wanted. There's a little bit for everyone in that performance, from the genral public and AGT sensationalism, via music industry and all the way to the vocal connoisseur, yet she kept it within the frame of a humble but still powerful homage to the song and she showed great respect to the original composition ... it was simply *_beautiful_*
The only flaw in this performance was that it ended too soon.

Also she has a very interesting story on why she doesn't wear shoes on stage. When she was 6 a homeless girl in Asia told her she loved her shoes so she took them off and gave them to her. Amazing child but the parents get credit for some pretty amazing parenting in my opinion

yeah she never oversings, in fact her phrasing is usually the most direct perfect line through the song. and this performance is the closest she hs ever come to oversinging, but im sure she did it because of the hype needed for this occasion

I just wanted to share this with some of my favorite TH-cam music reactors and vocal coaches.
Personally, I love music of many genres but I want to listen to music that moves me in some way, either make me feel happy and want to dance or just in aww of the beauty of the song.
And we do have a lot of wonderful and talented young artists here in Norway like Aurora, Emilie Nicolas, Sigrid and many, many more. But I want to share some of our talented artists that has been in the music business for a long time, and here are some of my favorites. I have picked artists who do have many songs in English or only sing in English. We also have many talents who sing in only in Norwegian too, but I have not added them to this list.
I will start with Sissel Kyrkjebø, she is a Norwegian soprano singer with an angelic voice. She has been blessing our ears with songs here in Norway since the early 1980’s
She is a diverse singer who will try different genres but her voice shines the most in classical and slow songs. Here are some of the few favorites of mine.

Another artist is Jarle Bernhoft. He started his career as a singer and guitarist in a rock band called Span, but he has been a solo artist since 2008. His solo music is more pop, blues and soul inspired. He sometimes tour as a one man band where he uses loop pedals to create the sound of a full band.
He also tour with the band Bernhoft and the Fashion Bruises. I like both settings with and without a band on stage with him.

The band Madrugada with Sivert Høyem on vocals is an alternative rock band who gave out their first album in 1999.The band went their own ways in 2008 and Sivert Høyem has had success in Norway as a solo artist. The band did however get together again in 2018 for a few live shows.
One of their biggest hits is a duet with another amazing singer, Ane Brun.
Sivert Høyem is known for his dark and haunting voice.

Another favorite of mine is Thomas Dybdahl. He started his career as a guitarist in the jazz/pop inspired band called Quadraphonics. He decided to go solo and released his first EP in 2000. He is also the singer in the pop group The National Bank and he has made film music for several movies.
I will describe his music as blues with influences from pop, soul and jazz.

Unni Wilhelmsen is another hidden gem: She released her first album in 1996 called “To Whom it May Concern” where the first song I have chosen is from. She has said many times that one of her biggest inspiration in music is Joni Mitchell whom she also has been doing covers of. She has been releasing albums in both English and Norwegian. Sadly, there’s not very much good quality live recordings to find of her on TH-cam but I have found two of her biggest hits.

Every beautiful note-phrase and intonation set aside for a moment, when she sings, ''Sending shivers down my spine'' is a spiritual sensation. She was born (maybe has a reincarnation or 2) with this raw emotional expression through singing (vocalist). This is not (can't be) taught. Yes she is a vocalist, but more, she is an artist of expression though her voice-emotion. I would think the souls like Amy Winehouse and other voice-expression artist have visited her. Whether she (or anyone else) knows it or not. She is ''star dust'' of emotional expression. Like seeing the Sistine Chapel, Mona Lisa or the statue of David for the first time.
