I have played every Mario kart and I have to say double dash was easily my favourite until Mario kart 8 (and then deluxe). I played so much double dash with my pals though, some great times.
@Wreck-It Rolfe I can see why, Double Dash is probably the most difficult to pick up and play in the series because the two characters per kart mechanic does take some getting used to. I'll also admit that as a preteen, I preferred 64 (used to think it was one of the greatest games of all time). Nowadays, Double Dash is a game I love more and more as time goes on whilst 64 has become one of my least favourite childhood revisits.
ReigningSemtex There is something not quite right with Mario Kart 8, i'm a pretty skilled player when it comes to Mario Kart games, with MK Wii online i nearly always finished top 3 and always beat my fianeé in 2 player mode, Double Dash the same, yet Mario Kart 8 its a lottery if i win against her, i also had my nephews round 1 night who had never played a MK game before & even they beat me on a number of occasions. I think the number of item boxes & getting tagged is the source of the problem here, you can easily drop several places if you get hit by a projectile then get tagged by passersby, incredibly annoying if you're in 1st position with a few corners to go and through the poor game mechanics you're all of a sudden in 8th place with no chance of getting back.
An additional bit of info on those arcade games. You could pick up a card in certain arcades that would hold data on them. You'd insert them into the machine and it would have your personal profile and save data on it. It would hold your best times and, most of all, it would keep a record of which items you'd unlocked. That gave you huge incentive to come back and try to unlock more stuff as well as keep a permanent record of your achievements. Or at least, as permanent as the arcade cabinets and the data on the card.

"Mario Kart: Double-Dash!!" was actually my most favorite game in the Mario Kart series before I was able to play "Mario Kart Wii" and "Mario Kart 8: Deluxe" due to the concept of being able to play as any two characters at the same time while also including Special Items that each character was able to use. :)
Double Dash is the best in the series by such a large margin I can't even explain it. The handling, the tracks, the carts and the gamemodes are just better than in any other game.

Mario Kart Super Circuit will always be my favorite simply because the sense of speed on that one is REALLY fast once you master the drift boost mechanics and everytime you use a boost pad or a mushroom, it feels like you're going to go through a portal, but tbh wii is my go-to simply cause of how much fun I had with that one during high school library tournaments (I never had a Wii, I really want one)

Just to clarify, rubberbanding actually makes the game HARDER in Mario Kart (there are reverse rubberbanding in some games, but mostly it is not because it is way harder to program a challenging and fair AI than making one that makes the player win. Gran Turismo 6 is one of them). Rubberbanding is a technique to stay competitive and avoid being too far ahead or behind. In most Mario Kart games, 50cc is the setting that completely disables rubberbanding, the CPU wont receive the items it needs whenever it wants and they can miss shots like a player would. Super Circuit I dont think it is difficult because of rubberbanding alone (even though I dont like it), but the track design and weird drifting. I think Wii is the hardest based on rubberbanding alone, the CPU dont tolerate players being on 1st for too long.
Mkds and double dash were the best in my opinion just for the mechanics. It just feels so good instantly getting drifts and keeping up that speed, which you can't do in the later games.
One thing I loved about Double Dash is once you master the drifting, 150cc becomes somewhat easy because of how far ahead in the lead you can be. It's ridiculous yet super entertaining. Same with DS except it's more broken which is okay by me because the AI cheats and I must cheat back.
I think Rare only said that to explain why Donkey Kong Jr got absent. Besides, Nintendo seem to be treating DKC's Donkey Kong and classic Donkey Kong as the same nowadays.

Wow i used to play the shit out of Mario Kart 64, getting stoned with my pals in my bedroom, before the internet and social media and the like, proper happy days.
One thing that I noticed over the years is that starting with Super Circuit and ending it with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (due to it being a hybrid system and all) that the makers of the series seem to have a pattern of releasing a Mario Kart game on a handheld and then on a home console. This is also the case with Animal Crossing starting with Wild World up until the Wii U era in which there was no core game present, instead being something else that leaves a bit of a sore spot for most fans. On the flip side a new core Animal Crossing game is coming to the Switch.
We played 16 player Mario Kart DD on the Cube. Still have two broadband adapters for doing all that. Though I did play PSO for years so I had one for that and a 2nd I got for cheap when MK DD came out.
I'm one of the few people who never had much interest in this series. Played a bit of the N64 demo, but that was it. I do enjoy learning its history though, so this was quality edutainment.
For the Mario Kart GP arcade being made by Namco, I've heard that it has a lot of Namco references but one I haven't been able to find yet is apparently Lucky and Wild make an appearance in the upgraded version.
I have all 4 of “this” that he mentions. I still play both systems and feel the games are different enough that I can still play both, especially with my niece who likes to play on the game pad.

I think calling mario kart Wii a best seller is always a gripe by me, it was bundled with Wii consoles (as was 8 and 7) but yes, Wii is a good game, but if you want a challenge take off auto drift on mk Wii and then go back to mario kart 8 and see how much the engine and game has improved! Still a mario kart 64 fan for life, Anyways cracking video Dan
The original Mario Kart is the greatest of them all! The others are okay but none of them can hold a candle to the first, it is as close to perfection as mankind has ever achieved.
Fun fact: The Mario Kart arcade games have more in common with the Wangan Midnight games than Mario Kart, going so far as the developers of the Wangan Midnight games working on Mario Kart Arcade GP.

FACT: Mario Kart 64 when it was still called Super Mario Kart R featured Bowser's father, Kamek in the game instead of Donkey Kong. It wasn't until the final release that Kamek got the boot in favor of Donkey Kong. Sadly Kamek was never included in any future Mario Kart entry.
Double Dash has to be my favorite Mario Kart game, alot of people might not have realized this but in multiplayer its far better balanced than say MK 8 for instance because on DD skill will earn you the win but MK 8 an experienced player can be beaten by a novice, i think its possibly down to there being more item boxes on the courses in MK8? I haven't been back to Double Dash in a while so maybe somebody cuold confirm this?
Mario Kart has always been my Favorite game from Nintendo since its 1st appearance on the Snes upto to Mario Kart 8 on the Wii (i don't hava a switch), i'm not a massive fan of Nintendo's library of games (i'm a SEGA guy) but this is 1 game from Nintendo that has to get the Complete History treatment from the main man himself. Looking forward to this 1.

This is also the case with Animal Crossing starting with Wild World up until the Wii U era in which there was no core game present, instead being something else that leaves a bit of a sore spot for most fans. On the flip side a new core Animal Crossing game is coming to the Switch.
4:10 HOOK UP ELECTRICITY! IT'S DRIVING ME CRAZY!
Mario Kart VR is a bunch of fun. Couldn't stop laughing while playing against complete strangers.
We played 16 player Mario Kart DD on the Cube. Still have two broadband adapters for doing all that. Though I did play PSO for years so I had one for that and a 2nd I got for cheap when MK DD came out.
Best series on YT. Awesome episode.
An hour video?? Finally, something to distract me from the fact I have no friends to make plans with on a sunday!
I bought double dash and ds earlier and I can't wait to play after Christmas. I grew up with mario kart wii
Another incredible episode, Dan!
I like how the overriding design philosophy of the game is "make people smile." Games SHOULD be fun. That makes ME smile.
Nicely done, dude: a lot of work went into this. An entertaining way to round-off my day. Cheers!
I'm one of the few people who never had much interest in this series. Played a bit of the N64 demo, but that was it.
I do enjoy learning its history though, so this was quality edutainment.
The difference between the voice overs during the advertisements is so damn comical lol
For the Mario Kart GP arcade being made by Namco, I've heard that it has a lot of Namco references but one I haven't been able to find yet is apparently Lucky and Wild make an appearance in the upgraded version.
Incredible video. I have never been a huge mario kart fan but a fan nonetheless and I didnt know there were arcade games. Subbed.
Mario Kart VR looks amazing.
A 1 hour vid of the history of Mario Kart....Lezz-A-Go! Love ya vidz mate....the time n love...been watchin fo a long time now love the channel
Excellent video. Thoroughly enjoyed
Took me two entire lunch breaks at work to watch this, I love it :) Keep at it!
9:08 - Mario Kart has always had the same character. DK Jr. IS the DKC DK, so you were correct. Cranky is the original DK.
my first mario kart was mario kart 64 and it still holds up to this day. at lease for me.
I have all 4 of “this” that he mentions. I still play both systems and feel the games are different enough that I can still play both, especially with my niece who likes to play on the game pad.
My first game on both the SNES and N64. Still one of my favourite games ever
What a brilliant & informative video. Enjoy all of them. Thank you so much.
Awesome. I like Mario Kart 64 for nosagic reasons as well as Super Mario Kart for SNES.
Honestly, until I watched this, I never knew that Mario Kart DS even HAD missions!
Thanks for teaching me something.
If you never played it then you never knew

I think calling mario kart Wii a best seller is always a gripe by me, it was bundled with Wii consoles (as was 8 and 7) but yes, Wii is a good game, but if you want a challenge take off auto drift on mk Wii and then go back to mario kart 8 and see how much the engine and game has improved!
Still a mario kart 64 fan for life,
Anyways cracking video Dan
Mario Kart 64 makes me want to kill everyone's nostalgia in the world.
“Not as good as Mario Kart”
But then there’s F-Zero ;)
I remember the UK ad for the first Mario Kart:
"Cut the corner, jump the barrier, but watch out for the driver behind!"
I'm watching this video everytime I'm in a car ride to my local Dave and Buster's (which has Mario Kart Arcade Deluxe as one of its games).
Ahhhhh I'm so chuffd:D have a good time
@@slopesgameroom Thanks! I see that you're also a big Dexter's Laboratory fan. Will you be making a "History and the Games" video on that show some time in the future?
I had no idea Mario Kart 64 was considered so good. I hated that one. Loved Double Dash to pieces. Mario Kart 8/Deluxe are tied with Sonic Racing Transformed for best kart racer, closely followed by Crash Team Racing/Nitro Fueled. Great video! Loved watching it. Keep it coming DJ Slope
The one thing I miss is the characters standing on the Podium after each cup and receiving the Trophy that way
FACT: Mario Kart 64 when it was still called Super Mario Kart R featured Bowser's father, Kamek in the game instead of Donkey Kong. It wasn't until the final release that Kamek got the boot in favor of Donkey Kong. Sadly Kamek was never included in any future Mario Kart entry.
Mario Kart Double Dash is the best 🔥 hope they make a number 2
Good Lord, man! Over 50 minutes? You've gone mad, and I love it!
I'd like a realistic Mario Kart where your kart can't take much damage before it breaks down. Would add to the challenge.
Thanks for making these vids, even if it took me two years to watch it!
You are a legend..... I was praying for this.
I laughed out loud when you point out that this game will outlive us all.
By the way.. Mario Kart DS was one of the first Nintendo games we at Mexico GOT IN SPANISH. Thank you SO MUCH, Nintendo!!!
Damn!
How can Double Dash be the easiest!?
It is the hardest Mario Kart for me that I have played so far! XD
I still need to unlock mirror mode after so many damn years....
But hey!
This was not only my very first Mario game, but also one of the two games (Mario Sunshine) that really inspired me as a kid of 4 to work as an game developer!
And look at me now!
21 years old and nearly done with his Game developers education!
Nice video!
