to be fair, that's the most accurate representation of an American career day you're going to get... the only thing missing is the Army recruiter lying to poor kids about the benefits of joining the military.
"I've just had to sit through two loading screens and my sim is not any better off for it" is for real career day. Only been there twice, but absolutely lackluster.
The fact we can't interact in class is just a huge oversight and I feel they left it out to make the deadline. Can't text in class, sleep, throw a scrunched up piece of paper at the teachers head?
Yeah, sounds about EA. They missed so much in this pack. I was excited and after seeing this video, I’m disappointed. Sims 4 is so boring. I was super excited for werewolves and I feel like that was the biggest let down for me out of all the packs. They make the worlds too small with little to do. Traits are boring and over used. They make me absolutely loathe children in the game. I often times delete sims after they have kids and they grow up to the child stage. I love kids so much, I want to have some irl. But, in game, I’m child free. There is too much wrong with 4 that I think it’s too far gone to keep pushing out packs. It’s time to move on.
@@antisocialal4799 I agree with this comment. Everyone is talking about how excited they are for the pack , but the school just looks so boring and too big? it’s very empty looking idk. I automatically got turned off by it once I saw another simmers video on it. Once again EA made the pack look really good in the trailer , but the actual product is very disappointed. There was so much potential. I know they have the money and workers to do it , they just are ok with selling half assed packs because people are gonna buy it regardless. It’s hard not to buy packs cuz the base game is too boring and repetitive on its own.
I’m surprised no one mentioned the lack of teen traits. They could have added an emo or punk, etc. Also, I was hoping for more clubs or the ability to form a club in high school like get together. And no class president?
@@reading1713 I believe the rivalry thing was just really really bad wording that got picked up by the players, it seems like the rivalry is just a reference to making enemies at school. So through your own game play and stories you can have Sims be rivals at cheer leading or football but it's not something new to the game
I agree there should be more teen-specific traits but tbf emo and punk are more like an outfit style and certain traits like gloomy rather than a trait.
only one school? that’s super disappointing after university gave us two 😭 i was really really hoping for a public vs private school, or a regular vs boarding school option
Same. I remember the lengths it took to get your child into private school, it really felt like an accomplishment when they were accepted. I was hoping to see them add traits to at least offset this, but like Plumbella said it seems they cut corners in certain areas to reach deadline.
Re: sneaking out - according to Gurus at today’s live stream, your teen will get calls asking them to “college parties” and other nighttime rabbit hole events. Your teen can then ask their parent(s) for permission or just sneak out (thru door or magic window). If teen asks permission, their parent(s) may say no. If/when parent says no, teen can only attend the rabbit hole event by sneaking out. If teen’s parent catches them sneaking out, they’re grounded. This feature can also interact with Parenthood curfew board and character values, ofc.
College party is a rabbit hole? Seriously? 💀😭 I want to GO to the party. Parties are part of the game, are you telling me they couldn’t even create a college party event? When all the resources are RIGHT THERE from previous packs and update? If I get asked out to a party as an adult, we show up at the party and I can play through that. This is even more disappointing than the one school. Can’t wait until modders get their hands on this pack tbh 💀
I really wish there were more practical/interactable classes like art, science and gym where you actually participate in activities, hold presentations and do group projects. I think that would add soo much.
To be fair. We have all that university with the painting classes you do outside. Same for robotics. I think they didn't add all the other classes cause of university. But I do wish we could interact more with the teacher or at least become a teacher.
@@LoveByNicole nah thats no excuse to me. They are already leveling up in skills here, why couldn’t we have actually active classes where you are given assignments to do in class. In University the arts classes are school organisations not actual classes. In TS3 we had some classes when you would do real work with actual objects to skill up and other classes where you would take notes, ask the teacher questions and sleep in class. You can do some of that now in Zerbu’s go to school mod that’s been around for TS4 since get to work came out. This feels like cutting corners to me.
I've seen in littlesimsie video there is an art class..., Don't have group projects but there is projects if you own parenthood, there are different classes through the week, the school day is already short, if they put all irl classes, it would be very tiring and chaotic. And we would have no free time at school at all.
Not being able to participate in class seems like a huge oversight. That would be kind of the one of the main benefits of it not just being a rabit hole. Like in the sims 3, they still got to go to afterschool activities . The difference now is that you get to watch them do nothing instead of them dissapearing for school.
It's intentional. The game has routing issues and it'll be a whole mess if they did have autonomy in class. Think Wedding Stories in High School ... that doesn't sound fun at all

@@sixfeetundertheradar6080 yes when the game first came out they said they were taking away open world in order to have less rabbit holes and having both would cause performance issues. They compromised by having the neighborhood semi open in that they can wander around outside but not travel to lots. But then they never really did anything about the rabbit holes :/
I feel like along the way they lost the plot. Thrifting and that whole separate social media aspect couldve been a game pack. I would exchange that for the option to set my own school uniforms, interactions during classes, more clubs and sports. The pack seems nice though, and I cant wait to see what the modders will do with it.
They keep adding a lot of social media stuff. We already have streaming from Get Famous and you can be an e-Sports Gamer in the base game from what I remember. Trendsetter and Social Media are already careers too. We also have Simstagram. We don't really need more stuff especially if it's not going to be connected to previous packs that players already purchased.
@@irongirltoni from what ive seen there is only cheerleading, football, chess club and the computer club. Even if they were just rabbit holes I wouldve loved a band club, art club, student concil, volleyball, swimming, etc etc.
I’m really disappointed that there is only one single high school in one world.. it’s a real shame that it isn’t a lot type or even a prefab lot that can be added into any world. Like a Japanese style one in Mt Komorebi, a British one in Windenberg or Sulani or Tartosa. Just a real missed opportunity I think.
Yeah there were hints towards there being uniforms and stuff. In the snowy escape pack with one of the young pre made sims girls in a family. Forgot their name though.
@Michael Hruska Sure, there are barely any sims in a fresh save, but lots of players put in their own npcs to populate their worlds. It seems unnecessarily limiting when so many people do have this level of customised saves. And there'd always be the randomly generated teens too
You could rebuild the highschool lot to look Japanese inspired if your sim lives in Mt Komorebi. So even though the lot will be in Copperdale, it could still look more Japanese styled. Y’know what I mean?
Why the sims don’t give game changers a beta version of the game, get their suggestions and then build on those blows my mind. I wouldn’t mind waiting even an extra 6 months and paying a bit more if it meant the packs would be fully fleshed out.
I really wish that Copperdale High school was added to other worlds too, like creating and customizing your own personal high school for your other sims in different worlds that they live in, and not just in the new world that we are getting with this pack. That was honestly sad that we could not do that at all, but everything else is amazing :)
There would be about 3-4 people in each school if you added one to each world. As cool as it would be for them to add teens who only exist in the school, it would make it hard to interact with them regularly when they only appear in the school and don’t live in any world. It just wouldn’t be realistic or as much fun as it seems. Like Plumbella said, it would be cool to be able to move the lot to other worlds if the auditorium weren’t separate, but having multiple schools would make the high school experience more populated. I definitely get the desire, but it just wouldn’t work as well as I would want
Yeah like why didn’t they do that? You can bulldoze the active career lots, and magic headquarters you just have to make sure you have all the required items, if space is the issue the sims team could have implemented similar system to tiny living where your required to have certain amount of space, if the issue is that it needs that secondary lot, well could have coded that the high school lot will not work without secondary lot being located in the same world and neighbourhood… it would have been easy thing to do.
I've said this before when the trailer was released, but what honestly disappoints me the most and has really turned me off from getting this pack (potentially at all) is that there are no "artsy" related after school activities like drama/theatre or marching band. It feels like my personal high school experience wasn't """trendy""" enough or considered important enough to be included. (But hey, the arts getting cut from school activities is realistic to actual American high school I suppose. :/ ) Like, they said they want our sims to have a true teenage experience, but they proceed to leave out a good portion of it for some people. Edit: Yes, thank you, I'm aware another pack has a drama club now. I don't have that pack and didn't know that. That still does not excuse the absence of marching band.
As a theatre kid, I’m already praying modders can make a school play/drama club. I can see why it wasn’t included by the sims team, the acting skill that comes with get famous and the actual drama club comes with parenthood. I was wishing we could actually see school plays at the auditorium, but oh well
They could've done something more with the drama club kids and teens can already join as an after school activity, but I guess that would make too much sense lol
@@sisi2654 Yeah, but they are the creators of sims 4. They should know how to make it work. They’ve done it before with other things. They could make it so you have to have certain packs to get it or something. It’s really not hard.

Sounds like yet another expansion that falls flat after 30 minutes of playing and leaves you with a bored feeling and the question why you even bothered to think that this one could finally be different from the rest and go deep on the gameplay. Most promising thing here for me is the build buy and bodyhair mechanic (which isn't even from this expansion. Focusing alot of energy on thrifting and completely ignoring football, zero teacher career and no class interactions (i.e. note passing, getting caught texting, falling asleep at your desk) in a HIGH SCHOOL pack is wild to me personally
I don’t understand why there’s focus on the thrifting, the boardwalk, social media…we either already have those in-game through other packs (Get to Work w retail, socmed with City Living) or could be fleshed out in a game pack (esp since EA is so greedy, I dunno why they didn’t jump on the opportunity to make a whole carnival pack). If it’s supposed to be high school, make the focus high schoo ffs
The name of the pack is literally High School Years and the content of the pack does not make justice to that name. The school is not interactive enough and I have the feeling it’s actually going to be boring after a while since there’s not much to do. EA seems lazy making the packs, it’s like they don’t care about the details and those details can make a meh pack into a great one! 🥲🙃
Always appreciate your honesty with these reviews. New packs always get so hyped up so it's really great to actually get a realistic perspective of the pack. Thanks so much! The biggest disappointment with this pack I’ve seen is the severe lack of pack integration-anything to reference the military skill? Theater skill? Singing skill? Dancing or playing an instrument? What about after school activities like becoming a scout? What about the teacher career? What about the Parenting gamepack? Are there any interactions between that gamepack and this expansion pack? Plus like, voting systems, can you become student president? Can you influence different school rules and have different events like a spooky season dance? Can you start after school clubs? So far from what I’ve seen they’ve had barely any integration of other packs and that’s really brought this down. Probs not gonna buy it, at least for a long time until modders tweak some of it, even then I shouldn’t have to be relying on modders to finish a half completed game lol
Half of these already exists, simmers are never satisfied. If it put all those classes there would be no free time at all for them, times goes fast at this game. Military skill? Never heard of it. Parenthood will affect the game, scouts already exists...
it is COMPLETED its surrounded on the teen years AFTER school, i get that EA are greedy i swear i get that but this pack is good, the developers worked hard on it and the most recent pack werewolves was really good too, so i don't get the complaining? they have integrated parenthood, and scouts come with seasons, so this is just honestly pointless complaining.
@@ninisdilemma I think the person isn’t complaining about the lack of those things, but about how those things were just left behind. Like the singing skill for example, it was brought in City Living but never touched upon later on.
@@ashsummermakaio4756 theyve really only went back and adjusted one pack so far, they almost never go back and adjust things unless something new relys on it, popular demand/rebranding, or it just doesn't work(and they don't always fix that either). I never expect them to add on to a pack beyond the face value at point of sale. Thats why they do packs like this, for you to decide what you want in your version of the game.
The career fair reminded me of the one we actually had in school. We literally all would just go to all the booths, collect the freebies, and leave lol
You should be able to set several days off each year. That allows greater customization to approximate different school year patterns. I assume school/work holidays will also be applied to the active school.
I'm going to be honest, I am SUPER hyped for this pack because although it looks good I just know once modders get ahold of this it'll be amazing. I bet modders will really get into the wants and fears, same as a lot revamped whims all on their own. There's so many possibilities I love it.
And once again console players are left with scraps of content without any hope of mod fixes while PC players can forget that EA is feeding them scraps because "modders will fix it". If modders can fix it for free, why won't EA fix it FOR MONEY?? to be clear, I'm not blaming OP for their excitement, I'm just fed up with this cycle of dependence on modders since a huge number of simmers don't have that privilege.
I like it... to an extent. It's just not an expansion pack to me. It doesn't expand the game. You can only go to school in that world, and children still just disappear when they go to school, which feels weird. The football field and bleachers are empty and unusable. Sims can do nothing in the classes besides learn new skills, and it's non interactive. This feels like Discover University, but for teens. It's a game pack at its core.
I like it, but like all things sims 4, buy it on sale, at least 25% off lol. Miss all the initial game breaking/annoying bugs and there's tons of support a month or 2 in

@@jamesmoriarty6540 yeah, I knew it was obvious… still doesn’t change what I said above though. They shouldn’t have made a massive deal if it was all rabbit holes
I get that, but I think them being rabbit holes made it possible for the team to add more stuff that can happen with and in them, without having to worry about making more items, animations, etc Pretty sure that if they weren't rabbit holes we'd be missing a lot of other stuff Like I think they said there's romantic rides and you can woohoo and get relationships up and maybe even kiss? I'm very tired, so the kiss one might be wrong lol
The wheel is a bummer. It should have been open windows just for ss and give little popups depending on the interaction and who your sims on the ride with. Say your sim goes in with a crush she can try for a kiss that might or might not succeed, a party animal might shake the cart and get banned etc. The influencer type might be taking photos. With the new wants and fears you could make a sim that’s terrified of heights and does it alone etc. Or an adventurous sim who hates it because it’s not enough of a thrill. We dont even need animations for this, just something to make each experience unique to each sim and story. From the sounds of it, it’s a one and done ride
I think the core issue is well represented in this pack, it could have so much potential but it falls short in a lot of things. Since the classes are so hollow and it only changes the board for different class, it will get boring fast. Also the AI is still bad and the sims just keep T posing instead of having an actual drama going on. Sims 3 I got into uni and there was so much going on around instantly that the difference to Sims 4 felt massive. I hope they focus on updating the AI next since Sims 4 is still kinda playing with barbies game instead of life simulator game.

I'm fine with game packs being centered around a very specific location/world, but expansion packs for me should impact your overall gameplay experience in a meaningful way (think get togethers club system vs snowy escape only letting you ski one specific place). High school only being a thing in this one specific world vs having it be a lot type you can build and place anywhere is a huge missed opportunity.

I know I’m dreaming here…but it’d be SO cool if the body hair growth component has a genetic aspect to it. Some people are blessed with peach fuzz, others it’s like tackling the Amazon…
Thank you for being honest in your review like LilSimie was too, you both said what I felt which is that in an expansion pack about school there should have been some interaction in class, rather then just sitting there and forwarding it. Even in the Zebu school mod I was able to ask teacher questions and play instruments for music lesson or chemistry set for chemistry lessons. So it is possible to add a bit of gameplay to the school lessons.
I appreciate how your whole editing had Eddie in various segments. I need to buy the club shirt too. 🖤☠️ hehe I’ll carry on watching your honest review, which I ALWAYS look forward to. ☺️
That was my main fear... that the high school would basically feel empty aside from a handful of Sims. And I'd of rather had more interactive clubs and shit than a stupid football field that isn't even useable with cheerleading & football players that don't even do anything.
It's still a bit off-putting that a majority of the "kids" in the pack trailer look like they're about to start pushing 30 😳 Also, I'm big hurt that there wasn't any sort of Band inclusion. No marching band or pep band or pep rallies or music competitions or anything? I just want my Sims to be able to play trumpets and saxophones and clarinets and flutes and tubas and trombones and drums 😩 I know the Music department is often under-funded in schools irl, but ouch I wish there were more clubs, and that you could join more than one. In high school I was always in _multiple_ clubs and extracurriculars, not including all the volunteering I did, and only being able to join 1 out, 3? 5? choices just feels a bit lackluster
@@iris-xo YES. The only reason I didn't mention it was because we ~technically~ already have an afterschool drama/theater club in one of the packs. But it's so lackluster that I completely agree, I'd love to see it fleshed out more and have our teens be able to put on plays in the auditorium. Definitely was personally one of my favourite clubs in high school!
I think the height difference won't happen until the fifth Sims game, because I imagine introducing something like that into Sims 4 will only cause a complete rewrite of animation code.
I would love if they had updated the clothes system to be like in the Sims 2, so we could actually buy and use what you buy, for me buying clothes in Sims 4 is a waste of money, since you can wear everything from cas 🤡🤡🤡
I’m gonna be honest, the classroom is lacking. I’m not complaining ab the pack, it’s just that I think they could’ve added at least 3 interactions. Like you could take notes or sleep or maybe even doodle. Ofc if u were doodling or sleeping then you could get caught. That’s the least they could do! If they wanted to go all out, they could as well. Like have science projects, essays, or book reports that you were able to do at home or in the computer lab. It also would be cool if they added certain tasks that you have to do while in class. I don’t know. It feels like they focused more on the activities to do as a teen such as the amusement park, Trendi app, social bunny, streaming stuff, thrift shopping, and boba. Don’t get me wrong, I love the fact they added that, but I feel like they could have switched out one of those things for more stuff to do while at school. Yes, school is very monotonous and boring, but there are projects and assignments to do when your in school yk?
Imagine how fun would it be if your skill gain/grade was affected by what actions you took in class. Like, if you choose to take notes and listen closely, you would have double skill gain, but if you choose to look out the window and just daydream, your skill gain would be cut in half. If you sleep, you gain nothing at all. How much that changed between individual sims could also be affected by their traits, like a bookworm or genius sim should be able to pay little attention in class and still do well because they're just naturally fast learners, and someone who's lazy should have a harder time studying due to not caring enough. You could also have a hidden multiplier or something so some sims are naturally better at some classes than others, like a "talent" hidden buff or something. That'd be nice.
This is not what American schools look like 😭. Maybe a private school but most public schools no. I was hoping there would be a concrete brick wallpaper tbh. I was also hoping for the option to make the school look more run down with more run down/dirty like swatches. But I also really like the 1920s vibe of the school. It’s very coming of age movie esc.
My school kinda looked like this, just bigger, more clutter, lockers, and with a blue coloring. Though that was middle class southern california in the late 90s. Hopefully you can customize.
First thing I'll probably do is make the school smaller so it feels busier as the one on the livestream felt very empty. Interactive classes are definitely a big oversight, I'd prefer it if my Sim could be uninterested in one class but really engaged in another as I remember I loved English, History and IT but I literally barely focused in French and Maths (to be honest I did do well at maths even though I couldn't be bothered with it so that's realistic). I think though that one of the biggest tricks they've missed is integtration with other packs and older things. Like I'd definitely like to see integration with Parenthoods parenting system and the style influencer career.
You basically confirmed my thoughts after watching the live stream and more. They’re great with build/buy and CAS but still fall short with interactive gameplay that helps create stories and connect with our sims. I know in the beginning of 4 one of the gurus condescendingly told us to use our imagination but I may as well just write a book instead of playing sims 4 at this rate. 🙄 I still have 2 and 3 to fall back on at least and spend my money elsewhere (my nieces will be happy lol).
I am conflicted. I find it absolutely intolerable that they didn’t have a teaching career. Like there one with Discover University, but just letting your adult sim go to high school and stand in front of a board shouldn’t have been too hard, right? The education part seems underbaked. The social media stuff seems a lot more well developed, which feels odd in a high school pack. I think this is supposed to appeal to people who kind of hated high school and just want to live out the life of a Tiktoker in high school. That isn’t bad, but it is kind of weird. The twin seems nice and I will probably enjoy my time with the pack, but it is underwhelming. The Sims team seems to have focused on other aspects like hair growth and the sexuality system which seems to have pulled resources away from the gameplay.
I know! One of my main sims is a teacher from Discover University and, since two of his kids are teens now, I was hoping to transfer him to HS so they could have some classes with Dad and have it actually mean something, like him being able to embarass them or have them embarass him, or anything at all really.
Girl I’m a teen and our lifes isn’t all social media, thrifting, and boba. Gen z want what other simmers want too. We want a sims 2 & 3 type of high school. It seems like some millennials pitched these ideas thinking they know everything about gen z when they really don’t💀 if they truly knew anything it’s that we’re obsessed with the stereotypical high school movies also private schools that they have in New York. it’s so annoying cause now we’re stuck with this boring pack..
As a young teacher myself, I am so going to bulldoze the school (because yes, you can do that) and try to recreate the school I teach at within the limitations of the game. That's definitely going to be a whole experience. I also need a Japanese high school and have my teen sit in the back by the window, anime-protag style!
So, how does the timing of prom and graduation work with the different life spans? If there's like a weekly prom that's going to get real annoying real quick
@@jamesmoriarty6540 yeah, I'm aging off, so my sims only get aged up manually and I tend to play sims at specific lifestages for a long, long time. So weekly prom and graduating HS after a couple of weeks would be kinda a problem.
I am guessing it would work like college semesters/years, maybe? You will get 4 weeks of high school to equal 4 years in real life and then you graduate and you would have the prom each week because that would count as a year.
I was raging when you were talking about how they could set uniforms like in dine out, I was thinking it was a tech limitation but they've done it before! I would love uniforms because teens don't really look like teens and I think it would help make them younger. I'm also not American so I couldn't picture going to school without a uniform it would just seem weird to me and not schooly. I'd wait for a mod that can do that
Lol, to be fair Dine out was still the most broken pack until Wedding stories came and stole the crown. It may have still been a type of tech limitation- between building from scratch the ability for multiple active teens going to school, an entire new social media system, wants and fears, and any other gameplay features in the pack - they may not have had the time/budget/staff left to code in school uniforms. (Uniforms in dine out are notoriously glitchy). There are so many additional details I would love to see in any given pack, but if they manage to release this pack with everything in it mostly functioning correctly, I would be happier then if they added an additional feature and half the pack was broken (looking at you wedding stories).
Im glad Plumbella really hit the nail on the head about how I feel about this pack. Lacklustre. Especially the lack of the teacher roles and the fact you cant move the highschool to other neighborhoods. I just wanted to make a magic school in Glimmerbrook goddamnit aaaaa
The inability to put our own remade high school in other neighborhoods, reminds me of the disappointing Apartments in City Living. And this was legit the pack I was most excited to buy after I stopped buying more packs after being disappointed by City Living. This is the same exact thing! Only can restyle the lot we were provided and cannot customize or rebuild from scratch in another world. I was hoping we'd had options to take different classes according our Sims' Aspiration and Traits. Like a room for Art Class with Easels to use along with our classmates who have the Creative Trait or any Creative Aspiration. Similarly a Computer Lab, to gain Logic, Programming skills. A Gym Class where Sims' who partake have to use gym equipment, the Cheerleader Mat, may be a climbing rope as well, to gain Fitness skill. Chess Tournament Event? Book Club Gathering? Debate Club to practice speech? Wood-working Class? (the game already has those boring stations after all anyways), Chemistry Lab? Since this pack doesn't have any of these things including the most beloved American High School trope, the ability to play Football on the big field, albeit with only two Sims together (like in the Sims 3 Seasons); this pack looks and feels like a watered-down game-pack version of the University pack..
I was hoping "High School" would be a new lot type :( I already have one built that I pretend my sims go to, so it'd be nice to have it actually function for once.
I always get upset about the new packs because I can always imagine a lot of ways they could merge it together with some of the existing packs, but they never do. It would be super nice if my sim could be the teacher, but in order to be teacher, they should have atended university and have a diploma on the subject. It's really frustrating how deeper the game could be by now if EA wasn't a money graber. :(
I've always felt like some careers should be locked behind university, if you choose it to in the options or something. Like, I shouldn't be able to just waltz into a hospital and become a doctor on the spot without a diploma, right? It'd bring some extra challenge to the game and encourage you to do more things in a lifespan.
@@g.t.3186 while I understand your point, that would give off major 'My First Pet Stuff' vibes, like imagine all the people that didn't have university not being able to use things in a different pack because it's locked behind university, there would be outrage lol. I like the system they have where having university gives you a benefit (like career level jumping) but doesn't actually take away or lock gameplay for other packs.
@@amberslavin I think they're talking about locking it IF you have the university pack. Personally university feels too long so I'm glad I get the choice of either starting at lv 1 or going to school and starting at lv 6ish. Pack integration is great but all these first access videos are showing base game and the pack only so we don't know how it will effect other packs yet.
@@Simmerdownidc oh definitely, and I'm definitely into pack integration to make the game feel more whole and purposeful rather than feeling like having however many separate games, just things like locking a career behind a different pack would definitely have to be done carefully, like only if that person has said pack like you said and it should definitely be optional, like you can 'turn it off' if you don't want, because some people might just have university for the build/buy/cas/world etc and have no actual desire to play with the actual university itself
They should have just made a mega expansion pack along the lines of Generations from the Sims 3. I would have paid more than 40 dollars for one that included everything.
The livestream is still happening but Plumbella is more important 💞 Excited to hear your review! EDIT: Pretty much agree with everything you said! Build/Buy, Thriftea and Social Bunny are standouts for me but otherwise I wish there was just a little more - maybe like creating your own clubs. Excited for the Lore video though!!
i know i'm blinded by nostalgia but there's a reason while i STILL avidly play sims 2 today in 2022 whereas with sims 4 i've played it on and off for years but i always get so exhausted of it. the sims 4 as a whole lacks depth, they have all these fancy features but that doesn't do jack when you don't have depth. sims 2+3 had more realistic interactions and just every day things like how in the sims 2 kids hug their parents when they come home from work, that's just a tiny example but i find myself constanty missing those things when i try to play sims 4, and EA will never recapture that success even with a million half-ass expansion packs and pretending like they care about the community
TS2 truly remains the best in the franchise. After the trailer of this pack I had for the first time in a very long time some hope, but seeing this video, I don't. It looks very boring and repetitive, so many rabbit holes, barely anything to interact with etc, just like with everything in the game. The gameplay is so incredibly boring, no depth and repetitive. I genuinely don't understand how anyone is excited for this pack after seeing this video.
I would definitely NOT recommend buying this without seeing more reviews and gameplay when it actually drops. This has superficial written over several aspects, so its better to know before you buy it.
It would be kind of hard for them to put all the social medias together, though, because they kept splitting it up over multiple packs and basically re-doing the same thing over and over. We have a base game rabbit hole streamer career, then we have the social media career from city living which also has streaming, then we have the video recording station from get famous, simstagram i think is from both get to work and cats and dogs (you get followers for either food pics or cat/dog pics being posted iirc), then there's the e-sports competitions from discover university, we already had plopsy from nifty knitting but now we're getting a new thrifting system which will probably function similarly to what we already have, and now we have simfluencer part-time job (when we already social media as a full time career in a previous pack), and a video game streamer part-time job (when, again, we already have that same thing in multiple other packs too). Like, Sims team can just stop adding social media related things now. We've got too much. They should have just done it right in base game instead of splitting it up over multiple packs.
Your suggestions for how to improve the career days were so good! Such a shame they didn't implement those ideas, or any decent ideas basically. Hopefully a modder will come to the rescue!
Yeah, I was genuinely so excited for this pack and after jesses review….. not so much. That’s why I love watching her videos, cause she just tells it like it is 😌🌸 love that for us
I love how honest you are with your reviews. I feel like most of the sims community is so positive that even the criticisms they have with content sounds good. You make it clear when you’re disappointed with something and expect better. Thanks for your transparency.
I'm so looking forward to a mod that lets you write whatever you want on social bunny. Some modder will figure it out eventually, right? It would be so good for storytelling.
the thing I was wondering about is how the high school thing will tie up with the change of generations and multiple households... like ofc your teenagers that you sent to high school as soon as you bought the pack will graduate and grow up and then they will have kids as well. so when the next generation of sims starts attending high school there will no longer be any sims with lore attending it? what if the principal dies? the entire school would be filled with just randomly generated townies? do you see the teenagers from other worlds attend this high school?? if I have several active households with teens, can they see each other at school?? things like that really bother me and I don't see many people talk about it....
'There was no point to career day and my Sim wasn't even offered a job' yes welcome to the American high school experience. 😂 I really think they made us do career day just to get us more comfortable talking to adults.
This pack just sounds so much like a game pack to me, like how can it be so lackluster? (though tbh, that might just be my bitterness about the lack of customisation of the high school itself shining through).
@@BonaparteBardithion And how many CAS/BUILD/BUY assets. Gameplay is so disappointing, reminds me of island living and snowy escape. World confined gameplay with little to no pack integration. I was kinda excited but I'm very underwhelmed. Such an expensive game for no reason.
I mean the pack is great and everything but… I miss the simplicity of other High School features from old Sims packs. • Inviting the headteacher over to try to persuade them to let your sim child attend their school. • The boarding schools from TS3 - there was such a range! And they built new skills and got traits while there. It was so funny when the kid would text the mum or dad like “No, I don’t miss you.” 😅 • Even though the high school was just a shell in TS3 I used to love sending them off to Prom and the limo that showed up to take them away. It was hilarious watching the notifications pour in and finding out what happened to them there - the writing was engaging and I could focus on other sims in the family while the teens were “away”. • In TS2 it was so fun trying to sneak Dustin out to go and visit Angela and I had a soft spot for Dirk and Lilith. Their stories just felt more complex. I also feel old for the first time playing The Sims. The outfits in CAS just do not speak to me (as I’m nearly 30, this is not surprising). Idk, the pack looks interesting and I know it’ll be a lot of people’s cup of tea but I think it’ll probably start to become a bit of a chore for me after a while. Kind of like how in TS3 World Adventures I’d explore a tomb all day and then not want to do it for months after because it was just too time consuming.
As somebody who's age range was intended to target for this pack (late teen) the outfits didn't hit for me either, they felt very "trendy" and NETFLIX highschool show-like.
I was so sad that the auditorium didn't have anything for theatre or band. Theatre and music stuff was huge for me and my friends, so it's sad that you can't have plays or performances
I’m so glad you mentioned how there’s no distinction between the teens and the adults. They shouldn’t have the same wardrobe options at all and it bothers me so much I hardly ever play with teens 😭. Make them look awkward, gives us more teen friendly aesthetics, etc.
I absolutely relate to what was said at 6:14. The doctor fixing your sim's mental breakdowns was my absolute favourite feature of Sims 2 and I would constantly cause Aspiration failures just to watch them lose their marbles.
I agree on the worlds. An African themed world would be SO awesome. Omg imagine going on a safari in a natural park or have street markets where you can shop and get food. Bring in a bunch of African cuisine dishes to cook, have a family feast. Go on elephant rides, stay at a giraffe hotel. Sorry I got too excited there
It just puzzles me so much. Why name a pack "High School Years" and not make the school lessons interactive, or the sports field usable, or the school clubs and events interactive and fleshed out... but instead put a ton of effort into creating new fashion selling mechanics? The whole fashion influencer and entrepreneurial thing could have been a separate pack. This pack needs to be revisited badly, not because it is broken like my wedding stories, but because it lacks the essentials
I am excited for the pack, but a few things bothering me: Not including periods definitely felt weird to me- they spoke about fully exploring teens and puberty, yet didn’t include them? It definitely feels very “we don’t talk about periods”. I’m not someone who was bothered about having them, but when you’re literally making an expansion about teens, it feels iffy to have not done it. Also don’t like that hair growth is tied to the pack, and not base game. That definitely feels like a way to make people buy the pack just for the feature. Also huge missed opportunity to have made clothes only unlockable via purchases from shops/ThrifTea. Maxis literally have the creator of the Pre-Teen mod now, so I was kinda hoping for a height difference or some differentiation between teens and adults. I really hoped the University Teacher career would become an active career with this pack.
Yeah hopefully preteens come eventually, because it just make way more sense since. It's odd how now they go from little kids to literal seniors who are about to graduate 💀
the only thing about periods is that the ESRB rating system in the US is fairly conservative. there is a good potential that they omitted periods so they could keep their teen rating
@@ViscountBiltmore- I double checked, and they definitely said it came with the pack. We get some body hair for base-game, but the system itself is tied to the pack, unfortunately.
I would like mumbella and dadbella to make themselves as high schoolers and then the twist is Plum digs up pictures of their actual high school time and compares
A lot of American schools (and public buildings in general) were built in the 1930s as part of the WPA. I'd assume that is what is behind the style choice for Build/Buy. It's a bold choice to be sure but it makes at least some sense.
I'd love different heights, but for everyone mostly, it wouldn't make sense to make every teen shorter- I was way taller than my mother and most people as a teen, and I knew a lot of teens who were the same. I think the option to do that would be better so you can customize your own story
I appreciate this review so much. Every other early access review I’ve seen of this pack drills down into specific elements. I have to watch like five different videos just to see everything that’s in it. I’m so glad you did an all inclusive overview cause I do not have the patience for anything else.
this is a really great and honest review! but I really wish that since they were talking about Puberty with Teenagers and stuff I wish we had Menstrual Cycles for the base game update!! It would add Some really nice educated information for like kids over 11 that don’t really know what a Menstrual Cycle is, and it would be nice to have Menstrual Cycles to make it more realistic for pre teens and teenagers
i disagree, i feel like periods would be a little strange for the sims seeing as their version of blood is "plasma" and they have no other bleeding anywhere else
As much as I like the idea of a menstrual cycle both for realism and educational purposes, it just doesn't feel like the type of thing that would be included in a Sims game (plus there are already really good mods for it anyway so you can get the functionality if you want). Plus I think it would get really annoying really fast, it'd be cool for maybe some occasional storytelling purposes but overall I think it would be bothersome to deal with - of course I am saying that with the assumption that you'd be getting things like PMS and cramps and such, needing to use menstrual products in the bathroom, getting various annoying moodlets, etc etc. I imagine it'd be kinda like with those realistic pregnancy mods where the entire experience becomes a nightmare to deal with as a player lol. I've deliberately disabled menstrual cycles any times I've gotten a mod that included them.
to be fair, that's the most accurate representation of an American career day you're going to get... the only thing missing is the Army recruiter lying to poor kids about the benefits of joining the military.

Yeah, the one career day I ever went to was pretty lack luster too.
You can text in class but I think only if a pop up comes up they should have did more with that
I guess they figure it's better to speed through the hour of class than speed through the day while they're not around
We can’t even get our phones confiscated.
Once modders get their hands on this pack it has the potential to become one of my favorites I think
yeah i want it but i’m not gonna buy it until a modder fixes some things lol
Except for console of course.
exactly what I was thinking
Yes!! Being able to place school anywhere. Also more interactions in classes ! (Ask question, sleep etc).
100%!!
I’m surprised no one mentioned the lack of teen traits. They could have added an emo or punk, etc. Also, I was hoping for more clubs or the ability to form a club in high school like get together. And no class president?
I was waiting to see what they meant by rivalries and I honestly still have not seen it
@@reading1713 I believe the rivalry thing was just really really bad wording that got picked up by the players, it seems like the rivalry is just a reference to making enemies at school. So through your own game play and stories you can have Sims be rivals at cheer leading or football but it's not something new to the game
i was hoping for a rebel and goody two shoes trait
I agree there should be more teen-specific traits but tbf emo and punk are more like an outfit style and certain traits like gloomy rather than a trait.
@@mollyoldfield746 there is a rival whenever you join the football club (and I think the other competitive club/sports) I’ve heard
only one school? that’s super disappointing after university gave us two 😭 i was really really hoping for a public vs private school, or a regular vs boarding school option
Same. I remember the lengths it took to get your child into private school, it really felt like an accomplishment when they were accepted. I was hoping to see them add traits to at least offset this, but like Plumbella said it seems they cut corners in certain areas to reach deadline.
I feel like more than one active school wouldn't work with the game. No other active career or experience has more than two lots.

Ha yeah a 'rope' object would have been funny
@@joaolima7131 Haven’t watched that video, do they paint and stuff?
Not being able to participate in class seems like a huge oversight. That would be kind of the one of the main benefits of it not just being a rabit hole. Like in the sims 3, they still got to go to afterschool activities . The difference now is that you get to watch them do nothing instead of them dissapearing for school.
It's intentional. The game has routing issues and it'll be a whole mess if they did have autonomy in class. Think Wedding Stories in High School ... that doesn't sound fun at all
Early game players of the much anticipated pack “High School Years”, have displayed the many issues. EA is a 36 billion dollar company that could easily invest their time into better packs.
What the sims community would like to see added into the High School Years pack that is airing tomorrow on July 28th:
-The ability to create high schools on any lot
-The ability to assign students uniforms
-Being expelled or suspended
-Secret clubs like the secret society
-Starting clubs
-Passing notes during class
-Whispering during class
-School presentations. Socially awkward sims will perform poorly with these
-Group project partners will be randomly assigned. Sims can argue about projects
-Falling asleep during class
-Tapping someones shoulder during class then chatting with them

The sims 4 is literally closed world in order for rabbit holes to not be needed… then they literally make everything a rabbit hole
Glad someone said it.
True that
Is that why it was made as a closed world?
@@sixfeetundertheradar6080 yes when the game first came out they said they were taking away open world in order to have less rabbit holes and having both would cause performance issues.
They compromised by having the neighborhood semi open in that they can wander around outside but not travel to lots. But then they never really did anything about the rabbit holes :/
@@mollyoldfield746 they did. They solved rabbit hole by selling a pack. Restaurant, some carrier, school.
I feel like along the way they lost the plot. Thrifting and that whole separate social media aspect couldve been a game pack. I would exchange that for the option to set my own school uniforms, interactions during classes, more clubs and sports. The pack seems nice though, and I cant wait to see what the modders will do with it.
Not being able to set a school uniform is just lazy. They already have that ability coded in from Dine Out, with the uniforms for cooks and waiters.
@@sarahm8464 i think something like that is a lil big for just an update🥴🥴 but i see where youre coming from
THERE ARE NO CLUBS OR SPORTS
oh my God they are rabbitholes just make the rabbit holes
I agree but I also wonder if this is because the sim population is so small it made more sense to have one high school in the whole game.
Yeah it would be great but the worlds are so small and there is so small amount of lots that it would be waste of space that we already don’t have
Yeah there were hints towards there being uniforms and stuff. In the snowy escape pack with one of the young pre made sims girls in a family. Forgot their name though.
@Michael Hruska
Sure, there are barely any sims in a fresh save, but lots of players put in their own npcs to populate their worlds.
Sims 4 has never been about customization and player choice.
The world's are so small where will you put the community and residential lots without it feeling dead
I wanted rival schools so bad 😩
THIS ;(
i thought there already was a drama club? in get famous
@@sisi2654 Yeah, but they are the creators of sims 4. They should know how to make it work. They’ve done it before with other things. They could make it so you have to have certain packs to get it or something. It’s really not hard.
Genuinely excited for this pack…however I’m far more excited about the use of Eddie pictures in this video. Munson is life, babe.

-Prom only once a semester
-Pep rallies, prank nights, and just empty slots in place of prom

Sounds like yet another expansion that falls flat after 30 minutes of playing and leaves you with a bored feeling and the question why you even bothered to think that this one could finally be different from the rest and go deep on the gameplay. Most promising thing here for me is the build buy and bodyhair mechanic (which isn't even from this expansion. All the gameplay stuff seems like it's a fun for one time experience, like the hospital career or university. It's the exact same EVERY time.
For me its deffo the whole social media feature, deffo necessary, thrifting is such a beautiful aspect too, npcs being able to ask you out and not us always doing it which feels unrealistic and boring tbh, npcs getting crushes. Yeah thats gonna add so much more added gp and i love that they've added the feature

15:53 it would be cool to integrate discover university if they also had a college fair or at least have reps from the two universities at career day
It will have integration, if they do bad or get expelled, they won't be able to apply to certain jobs or go to university at all, but there will be workarounds for adult sims to get their diploma
great idea
I think that’s the point of career day, Atleast in Uk it not just Job/career, we also have university come to those kind fairs

As with EVERY TS4 pack, this one is wide as an ocean and deep as a puddle. It's what ALWAYS ends up happening. The fact there aren't even interactions or things to do in class is outrageous. There's no sports to speak of, prom is just like any other event, clubs are like in previous packs. There's literally NOTHING new. Same ol' sh!t with a slightly different smell.
It's astounding that TS3 did better with the after-school activities even when they are all in rabbitholes.

at this point idk how some people still get hyped with the release of new content, must enjoy getting disappointed every single time
Focusing alot of energy on thrifting and completely ignoring football, zero teacher career and no class interactions (i.e. note passing, getting caught texting, falling asleep at your desk) in a HIGH SCHOOL pack is wild to me personally
Completely agree! Its like they forgot altogether about Football, and any Teacher-Student interactions, so disappointing..
it should be renamed teen years or smth
I don’t understand why there’s focus on the thrifting, the boardwalk, social media…we either already have those in-game through other packs (Get to Work w retail, socmed with City Living) or could be fleshed out in a game pack (esp since EA is so greedy, I dunno why they didn’t jump on the opportunity to make a whole carnival pack). If it’s supposed to be high school, make the focus high schoo ffs
Way too much attention on the new social media apps. They should just expand on what they had and focused on highschool more!

Pretty sure acting, singing, dancing, and playing instrument is an already existing skills in the game…
it is COMPLETED its surrounded on the teen years AFTER school, i get that EA are greedy i swear i get that but this pack is good, the developers worked hard on it and the most recent pack werewolves was really good too, so i don't get the complaining? they have integrated parenthood, and scouts come with seasons, so this is just honestly pointless complaining.
I feel like if you have seasons, then you should have the summer off of school, or spring break. Summer school would be a really great idea as well.
You should be able to set several days off each year. That allows greater customization to approximate different school year patterns. I assume school/work holidays will also be applied to the active school.
Just create a summer break holiday on the calendar for the summer days and make sure it includes days off school. Boom.

I'm going to be honest, I am SUPER hyped for this pack because although it looks good I just know once modders get ahold of this it'll be amazing. I bet modders will really get into the wants and fears, same as a lot revamped whims all on their own. There's so many possibilities I love it.
That’s why the sims will never produce anything finished ever again. They know modders will do it for free.

@@jamesmoriarty6540 yeah, I knew it was obvious… still doesn’t change what I said above though. They shouldn’t have made a massive deal if it was all rabbit holes
This is TS4. If you didn't expect rabbit holes, you should lower your expectations 😂😂
I get that, but I think them being rabbit holes made it possible for the team to add more stuff that can happen with and in them, without having to worry about making more items, animations, etc
Pretty sure that if they weren't rabbit holes we'd be missing a lot of other stuff
Like I think they said there's romantic rides and you can woohoo and get relationships up and maybe even kiss?

So it is possible to add a bit of gameplay to the school lessons.
I appreciate how your whole editing had Eddie in various segments. I need to buy the club shirt too. 🖤☠️ hehe
I’ll carry on watching your honest review, which I ALWAYS look forward to. ☺️
That was my main fear... that the high school would basically feel empty aside from a handful of Sims. And I'd of rather had more interactive clubs and shit than a stupid football field that isn't even useable with cheerleading & football players that don't even do anything.
It's still a bit off-putting that a majority of the "kids" in the pack trailer look like they're about to start pushing 30 😳
Also, I'm big hurt that there wasn't any sort of Band inclusion. No marching band or pep band or pep rallies or music competitions or anything? I just want my Sims to be able to play trumpets and saxophones and clarinets and flutes and tubas and trombones and drums 😩 I know the Music department is often under-funded in schools irl, but ouch
I wish there were more clubs, and that you could join more than one. In high school I was always in _multiple_ clubs and extracurriculars, not including all the volunteering I did, and only being able to join 1 out, 3? 5? choices just feels a bit lackluster
Thats becaus Teens in ts4 ar copyd adultw
Just like on TV. 🤭
Yeah, they could’ve just had a rabbit hole called band class. And if they added choir? It’d be so easy to do 😅
there should have been a theater too to put on plays at school :(( we literally have the acting skill and actor career so why nottt
I think the height difference won't happen until the fifth Sims game, because I imagine introducing something like that into Sims 4 will only cause a complete rewrite of animation code.
yeah exactly, it always bugs me when people request that it’s pretty much impossible to happen anything soon
I got a mod to do so in the meantime and tbh it's not too distracting
@@sunnyyyyyyyyyy grow up
I would love if they had updated the clothes system to be like in the Sims 2, so we could actually buy and use what you buy, for me buying clothes in Sims 4 is a waste of money, since you can wear everything from cas 🤡🤡🤡
I still do it sometimes cause my sims usually have too much money anyways
@@g.t.3186 exactly! That would be so cool
I'm loving the fact that the families in the town are literally called Prescott and Price, lol. Good LiS reference there.
I didnt even catch that. I love that so much
Yess same

This is not what American schools look like 😭. Maybe a private school but most public schools no. I was hoping there would be a concrete brick wallpaper tbh. I was also hoping for the option to make the school look more run down with more run down/dirty like swatches. But I also really like the 1920s vibe of the school. It’s very coming of age movie esc.
Haha if you have vampires there are some wall cracks and water spots etc
there's a lot of variety with american schools? mine looked sorta like this lol
Not all American schools look the same.
My school kinda looked like this, just bigger, more clutter, lockers, and with a blue coloring. Though that was middle class southern california in the late 90s. Hopefully you can customize.
Idk what makes you think that American high schools look the same. but my high school looks like this but larger and messier.
Man, all the "could've beens" are really chipping away at my soul. The story of S4.
It seems like some millennials pitched these ideas thinking they know everything about gen z when they really don’t💀 if they truly knew anything it’s that we’re obsessed with the stereotypical high school movies also private schools that they have in New York. it’s so annoying cause now we’re stuck with this boring pack..
going to get ice cream at a little ice cream stand was such a huge part of my youth i did NOT expect that to be my favorite part of this pack lmao
Ikr. And i don't want my sims to graduate after being in school for a few days💀
In TS3 prom would happen every x amount of days but graduation only happened the day after the aged up.
Can our sims work in the school? Like as a teacher and the principal? We basically already have the educator career, it seems weird if we cant
Sounds like the base game update is gonna be better than the pack itself xD
But I'm excited about the thrift shopping.
Same
I want to get this pack, but then My wedding stories…
Honestly I’ll wait for it to come out and for people to review it✅
I would definitely NOT recommend buying this without seeing more reviews and gameplay when it actually drops. This has superficial written over several aspects, so its better to know before you buy it.
i’m so excited to see more hairs for AA women and men 😭 you have no idea how happy i am to see edges FINALLY
IKR! The way I screamed when I saw the Box braids!
love the hellfire shirt, as well as the usage of eddie (and steve) throughout 😩✨
I can’t wait for my sims to live out the entire plot of heathers, mean girls, and every other iconic highschool movie under the sun
I’m a big fan of the use of Eddie Munson in this video lmao
Yeah, I was genuinely so excited for this pack and after jesses review….. not so much. That’s why I love watching her videos, cause she just tells it like it is
😌🌸 love that for us
I do love the uniforms and I'm happy that they gave us some new traits. Not sure why the menswear is always lacking. I might give this pack a chance.
The use of Eddie in this video really was the cherry on the top! What a boy 🖤
Your reviews are always so comprehensive and organized, while also being fun
'There was no point to career day and my Sim wasn't even offered a job' yes welcome to the American high school experience. 😂 I really think they made us do career day just to get us more comfortable talking to adults.
This pack just sounds so much like a game pack to me, like how can it be so lackluster? (though tbh, that might just be my bitterness about the lack of customisation of the high school itself shining through).
LITERALLY SAME. I’m so bitter about the lack of customization!
At this point the only difference between a game pack and an expansion is how many lots the world has.
God i really wanted High School Reunions in this 🥺
I mean the pack is great and everything but… I miss the simplicity of other High School features from old Sims packs.
• Inviting the headteacher over to try to persuade them to let your sim child attend their school.
• The boarding schools from TS3 - there was such a range! And they built new skills and got traits while there. It was so funny when the kid would text the mum or dad like “No, I don’t miss you.” 😅
• Even though the high school was just a shell in TS3 I used to love sending them off to Prom and the limo that showed up to take them away.
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE
I don’t know if it’s the game itself, or the use of Eddie Munson’s picture but I have the urge to make a 1980’s save file with this pack.
Simstrouble made CC of Eddie’s hair! You should totally get it if you want to do a 80’s save file
I applaud you for the use of Eddie Munson in this video. I miss my babygirl everyday. Bring him back
I was so sad that the auditorium didn't have anything for theatre or band. Theatre and music stuff was huge for me and my friends, so it's sad that you can't have plays or performances
I thought the new video game streamer job was so unnecessary bc that’s already a thing under the one tech job and it can go up to level 10 🗿
Sorry I got too excited there
The first pack where any shortcoming can be easily explained by the fact that they're shortcomings irl too
It just puzzles me so much.
I am excited for the pack, but a few things bothering me:
Not including periods definitely felt weird to me- they spoke about fully exploring teens and puberty, yet didn’t include them?
The response to the absence of periods given on the livestream was so unsatisfactory as well.
I thought they had been promoting hair growth as base game, maybe I just took it like that lmao
the only thing about periods is that the ESRB rating system in the US is fairly conservative. there is a good potential that they omitted periods so they could keep their teen rating
I love you’re honesty and your accent!
I think this should be bg
@@indedgames4359 yeah! that’s what I meant lol
i disagree, i feel like periods would be a little strange for the sims seeing as their version of blood is "plasma" and they have no other bleeding anywhere else
I think it would be interesting for a while, but then you'll get annoyed by it just like in real life lol. Personally I'd rather not have it included.
The music and the pictures of Eddie are sending me
